Hey folks. I must now make an announcement I'm finding it quite difficult to make. I'm sure some, if not all of you won't be too surprised though as it's been coming on slowly for some time now.

I'm taking an indefinite leave from PbP.

I've been playing these wonderful games online for seven or eight years now, and they have brought me an immense amount of fun, creative challenge, entertainment and inspired flights of fancy. I simply do not have the words to express my deep gratitude for each and every one of my fellow players, and most especially all the hard working GMs I have had the great pleasure and privilege to game with. Thank you all, so incredibly much.

While I still do very much enjoy these games and collaborative creative fiction, upon some deep reflection, over some time now, I feel I need to concentrate my energies in some different directions. Now is the time for it.

Ali is my most difficult PC to leave. I'm pretty sure she was my first, meaning I've been playing her for around eight years!! Hard to believe, eh? In many ways she is my favourite. I would love if she can somehow be kept at least peripherally in the game, as I would love to keep playing her if/when I do come back. But please feel free to use or do with her whatever you think fits the story best. I really will miss playing with all you guys. You're honestly some of the most talented writers I've ever been blessed to game with.

I may be back though! I just have no idea when, or if at all. I am sure I'll still skulk around and keep abreast of the game though. So please keep up the stellar writing!

I consider you all friends, and I wish you all the very best. Thanks for putting up with me all these years!

Fare thee well, my boon companions and, as the Elvish saying goes,
"Merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again!"

So, who's up? I really do wish we'd all adopt the system I use when posting, or something similar. It's a great idea that someone came up with and it's used in a few of the games I'm in. Makes it Much easier to avoid confusion, mistakes and delays. And really doesn't take that much longer to post at all, especially if you save a battle template somewhere and just copy, paste and adjust as necessary

Oh, and Wellard...:
yes I know those attacks turned out alright, but mainly because Ali gets a bunch of bonus', particularly against giants and such. But in my last 20 attacks rolls I think I've rolled about a 10 like maybe 3 times.

Just as a note, Ali only has scent when in wolf form, not dire wolf form, so she freely switches back and forth when her nose is needed.

As the small wolf begins to nose around, she begins to clearly pick up several scents that either intrigue or confuse her. After spending several moments sniffing back and forth, she finally flows to Gnome form.
"Ali..Ali not so sure... She think dead no dead fairy queen that way" she points towards the South "Smell like fey, but bad bad, like food no good to eat no more. That way" this time she points South West "Smell like... smell like things dying, or be dead dead for long time. That way" now pointing North West "Ali smell...Ali no know what this smell be. Smell like rocks, a little bit?"

After some thought she nods and points North West "Ali think maybe we go this way first, yes yes." although she does not seem entirely sure. Whenever the direction is decided upon, she flows back to wolf form and heads down the passageway, her nose leading the way.

The two wolves growl deeply, clearly furious at the sight and scent of the wolf pelts. Lunas lowers his head and takes a step towards the bag and the rogue, making it clear to the rogue that taking the furs would cost much] more than they are worth.

AliWolf glances at Lunas, but trusts her den brother to do the right thing. She then moves over to the two passageways, using her nose and the rest of her senses to try and determine which passageway might have had the least amount of recent traffic. If able to determine, she returns to the passage and makes it clear to the others that it is the one she wishes to head down.

Wasn't boring, but most of us weren't doing anything until the Ogres exited the tunnel/cave exit, and they weren't exiting, so...anyhoo

Sated, at least temporarily, by the taking down of this last pack of wolfkillers, Ali once again flows to Gnome and conjures her magics to cure the minor wounds of her friends.

Flowing back to wolf form, once the pack is ready, she and Lunas lope ahead eagerly. Hunting the hunters, their noses in the air and sharp senses tasked to finsing the next batch of prey to take down, the two big wolves glide deeper into the mountainside fortress.

Ya, I'm pretty confused about what's going on myself. What round is it? What the init order is? Where exactly everyone is, or we are?...But, going on what I imagine the situation to be, that we're in one room, and the ogres are in another room, with a hallway full of dead ogres between us...

Despite their fury at, and eagerness to kill the Wolf Killers, Ali and Lunas know enough to not go charging down a hallway into a room full of them. Knowing as well that their foes will in all likelyhood continue coming to them, the two big wolves continue to wait, ready to leap and bite and kill the first ogres to come out of the hallway.

Readied actions to attack the first orges that emerge from the hallway

So all the currently visible Ogres are dead? If that is the case Ali will also delay their attacks until they can see more (whatever they can see with Lowlight vision)

Growling in satisfaction as the giant is brought low, Ali swiftly flows to Gnome form to heal some of her packmates wounds. Calling upon unique gifts, she asks for the strength of the Land to flow up into her allies and friends.

Despite Romon's near ceaseless levity, for Ali and Lunas, killing Wolfkillers is perhaps the most serious matter of all.

Lunas, having been enhanced considerably by his Den Sister's magical connection with the Land, gains immense satisfaction from being able to attack the Wolfkillers now as an equal in size and strength. If only his other Den Siblings could see him now...

Yet still, at present he shows no outward sign of pleasure whatsoever, as both he and DireAliWolf pad forward to the edge of the cave, growling low in their throats and lending their senses to Big Bear's to determine what prey may lie before them.

Ali Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 + Scent

As the pack slowly and stealthily approaches the Wolf-Killers, Ali takes a few seconds to cast protective and aggressive spells on her four legged brothers. And Romon.
Before combat, Ali casts Barkskin on Usrus, Lunas, Romon and herself. +4AC (Nat Armor) duration 100 min
She also casts Greater Magic Fang on Lunas and Ursus. +2 Attack and Damage for one natural weapon or +1 atk & dam for all natural weapons. Bypasses Magic DR. Duration 10 hrs

Then, as her pack makes ready to attack she:

If the ogres are armed with metal weapons:

once again calls upon the magic of the Land, pulling heat from the lava streams below the ground, pouring it for a brief moment into her enemy's weapon. She then flows to DireAliWolf form and stalks through the snow, edging closer to her prey.

SA= Casts Burning Disarm on O3. Drops weapon and needs a Ref save DC15 or takes 5d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 3, 1) = 10 fire damage.

Swift Action= Flow to Dire Wolf form

MA= Moves to K/12

If the ogres do Not have metal weapons:

growls just as savagely as her den brother at the site of the hated Wolf-Killers and flows to Dire Wolf form, barrelling her way through the snow, eager to sink her fangs into her enemies flesh.

FRA= Double move to L/15

At the same time, Lunas, growling savagely, rushes ahead through the snow to attacking distance, his large form blasting through the high piled snow.

FRA= Double move to M-N/14-15

Both Ali and Lunas are now at AC25

Ali growls deeply and menacingly in her throat when Myriana threatens the Land once again, yet with Roman in front of her and her awareness that an attack at this point would do little to help anything, she does nothing more.

AliWolf's growl turns into a long howl of mourning, outrage and fear as she sees what has become of the once beautiful wood nymph. Unable to fully express herself in wolf form though she then flows to Gnome, with tears once again streaming down her cheeks.

Her voice is firm however as she steps protectively in front of the suddenly blind Big Bear and speaks to what was once Myriana "You no blame us for where your mate be! Ali be very, very sad for you Myriana that you be so dead, dead, dead now. She can see how pretty, pretty you once was."

"Ali and her friends do come here to help. But Ali is here mostly to help the Land! Like you was supposed to do! That be your job, your duty yes yes! So you tell Ali right now! Is you who hurt the Land so bad, bad, bad, or is someone else? You tell her now and she will stop whoever is hurting the Land from hurting it more! Tell her NOW!"

She also tries to focus to make sure that what she is seeing is really there, but in her emotional tumult this is difficult.

Several times as they progress through the forest the party hears heartbreaking cries of despair from the small grey hawk circling above them.

Keeping track of her packmates from the air, Alihawk flies down and joins her friends just before they ready themselves to head into the worst part of the forest. Smoothly flowing to Gnome form the companions can immediately discern the level of her emotional distress from the pain in her big eyes and the tears streaming down her face. "So much bad bad bad all around! The Land is so sad!! It cries out in pain and is dying dying almost dead!" she wails.

Sobs then take her over and weeps heart wrenchingly, her emotional and sensitive soul devastated and her heart breaking from the death and decay all around her. As her companions comfort her eventually her sobs cease. Thanking them all with hugs and signs of affection none of those who know her are surprised to see the instant transformation which comes over the mercurial druid.

A fury washing over her as she thinks on whatever or whoever has caused all this destruction and death she growls fiercely "This be wrong wrong wrong! Ali will find who has hurt the Land and she will make sure they can never do this again! Never!"

Turning to Lunas she touches him on his big head saying "Brother, you stay here too with Little Bear and keep Yap safe. Ali will be back for you, but if she no come back, you go home and be good good." giving him one last big hug, she then turns to the others, her eyes blazing with righteous fury "Now, we HUNT!" and with a growl she flows to Wolf form and begins to lope ahead, her nose to the ground searching for any sign of their prey.

The moment Ali sees Yap's tears and his genuine confusion and sorrow, Ali's anger melts in a second replaced by guilt, regret and her own intense sorrow. Throwing her arms around the pixie she cries "Oh Yap! Ali so so sorry! Yes yes she is! She knows it not your fault Land is sick here. You please forgive her for being mad at you? Yes yes?"

Calming down after a little while she releases Yap and listens to the others and then nods slowly at Big Bear's order. Moving to Lunas, she kneels down beside him and puts her arms around him. Placing her head against his she whispers fervently "Den brother Lunas, Ali knows you be scared at yucky bad energy and pain of Land, but you stay strong and brave for Ali, yes yes. She go fly now to maybe see where Land is most sick. You stay with Big Bear and Little Bear and rest of the Pack and you help keep them safe. Ali will be back soon, she promise."

Then with a last big squeeze she rises, runs and leaps into the air flowing to hawk form as her feet leave the ground. Quickly winging up into the air, she begins to fly in larger and larger circles, doing exactly as her pack leader has asked of her.

So basically I'm having her take 10 or 20 on the searching. But if you need Perception rolls of whatever just let me know. I'll also throw in a K Geography: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 and K Nature: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 for good measure.

As the others press forward, they finally notice that a familiar small grey wolf is not padding along beside them. Looking back they Ali, still in her Gnome form, with Lunas beside her and looking up at her with great concern. For any that come back to check on her as they get closer they see that her big eyes are as wide as they have ever been and tears stream down her face. If you did not know better, it would almost seem like the fearless wild druid was...afraid.

Finally, she speaks "Ali no like it her, not she does not like it at all. This land be bad, bad, bad. It be...Dark" and her she shudders unconsciously Turning to their guide, a hint of anger in her voice now she demands "You no tell us everything about what happen here! You tell us ALL, NOW!. Are you see Ali MAD. And you trust Ali, fot you no like her when she be MAD." Her last words coming out in a growl as he form begins to grow and change, but this time very slowly.

Upon reaching the encampment, AliWolf begins moving slowly all around the camp, sniffing for any information which might be valuable towards her pack or aid the nymph. Lunas pads alongside her, aiding his nose to her efforts.

Upon finishing she trots to the middle of the camp, flows to Gnome, and sits down cross-legged. She then begins chittering, chattering and making all kinds of strange noises. Slowly at first, and then more rapidly, all manner of beasts and birds come to her. Some land on her shoulders, some crawl on to her arms, legs or lap. Others sit by her. All make noise at her. For all intents and purposes, it looks like she's having a tea party or a grand chat with old friends. Sometimes she laughs, sometimes she cries, sometimes she looks serious or looks back or points at one or another of her pack mates.

Finally after some time she rejoins the others and shares all that her nose, and her animals friends, may have told her about what she needs to know to help the nymph, find the missing lover or anything else of import the nearby animals may have been able to impart to her.

Her eyes welling with sympathetic tears, Ali approaches the pixie and enfolds him in a big, warm, hug. Eventually pulling back, she looks down at the smaller fae and says most kindly "Oh Yap Yap! Your story make Ali's heart sad too! She no like to hear the the trees and plants and nixies and frogs and everything are dying or worse! No no she does not! But you no worry no more Yap Yap. Ali and her friends go with you and make your Mis-Tress heart be happy again. Yes yes?" she turns and asks her pack-mates for confirmation.

Not waiting for any reply she turns back to Yap "You see! Ali friends be good good! Yes they do! We go help you right now. Let's go!"

And she links her arm in Yap's and proceeds to lead him out of the building, yammering on happily about many things, doing her best to cheer the poor pixie up, while he, for his part, keeps looking back over his shoulder to see if the others are coming too. Lunas, after giving a long look to the others, gives his equivalent of a wolf shrug and lops off to catch up with his den sister and her new companion.

As they near where Lunas was guarding the other four-leg fast-runners, DireAliWolf flows to Wolf form and lopes quickly ahead, anxious to reunite with her den brother and be sure that all is well.

After a serious and licks and friendly nips, and roughhouse play, the two settle down and wait for the others to prepare themselves for the long ride back. Once her two-leg pack mates are ready, the two wolves lope ahead to scout the way, their long practice and communication making the task an easy and pleasant one for them both.
