Alex watches the back and forward between the soccer players, her eyes coming to rest on Andrea when she thinks she's not being watched. Otherwise, she stays quiet
Alex scowls into her meal and takes another bite, doing her best to ignore her.
Alex looks up from her whispered conversation with Kelly. "Well, you've got to admit, it kind of does." she says to Lillian, taking a bite and making a sour face. "Jeez! It tastes like it too." At Andrea's words she frowns, glancing around at where Rowyn is sitting. "Just ignore her Yungfeng. She's just pissed that you don't want to sit next to her. Say, have you seen your sister around? I haven't seen her in ages."
As Alex pulled up a chair and sat down, placing her tray on the table and looking down at it mournfully. "God I hate the food in this place." she said to nobody in particular. "Just because its vegetarian doesn't mean it has to look like cat vomit. Still, it doesn't look much worse than what you guys have." Poking at her food, and taking the occasional nibble she idly looked around at the other diners, making sure not to make eye contact with Taryn. Taking the opportunity afforded by Taryn loudly boasting about her performance on the soccer pitch, she leaned over and quietly whispered to Kelly. "So. You still up for tonight or what?"
Alex looks around, sighs and then heads over to grab a seat with Kelly, but as far from Taryn and her crew as possible.
So,.. Are we moving on to dinner?
Alex runs towards the girls changing rooms for gym class. Arriving late, she finds the locker room empty and heads straight for her locker and begins to change into her swimming costume.
"I'm just heading back to class" Alex replies, to the janitor. "I'll see you guys later on." she says as she turns and hurries off to class.
Alex shrugs. "Ok, ok,.. I believe you, jeez. I'll look out for her. It's not like we hang out all the time or anything though. She's a bit of a pain in the ass anyway."
Alex just looks at Kelly a bit strangely. "A predator,..... riiiiiight. Um, OK, I'd better be getting back to class Bridges already gave me a Saturday detention today."
Dangerous? How?
"Yeah, they seemed like they were high or something. Mindy laughed. It was weird! Something going on? Like what? I mean, Mindy's a bit strange but, you know, she's essentially a goth, and they're always a bit mopey. I mean, lighten up! You should have been there last night! We were, um,.. doing some stuff and,.. " she lowers her voice to a whisper. "You won't tell anyone? Good. We caught Linda Mann and Blake Terry in the pool - skinny dipping! You should've seen Mindy - she just went straight in and, like, totally shut them down! She was a total b~#$@ about it too! It was totally awkward."
Alex bemusedly watched Mindy and Carrie walk off towards the dorms before she hears Youmei, no, Yuji, wave her down and turns to see Yuji and Kelly standing at the end of the corridor. "Isn't anyone in class?" she says as she walks up to them, "Anyway, I just saw Mindy and that Carrie girl, do you know her?, heading off towards the dorms. It was weird. Mindy looked like someone'd tried to set her on fire! She didn't even seem worried about it!"
"Yes sir, " Alex sighs as she turns to leave. Turning down the corridor to head to chemistry class and sighing thinking about losing her Saturday. It was worth it though! she thinks to herself, I wonder whether it'll work? Just a couple more things to grab and then I can try it out... That prick's going to get it!. Her thoughts are interrupted as she turns a corner and bangs right into Mindy and Carrie. "Oh, sorry," she begins, before seeing Mindy's state. "Jeez! What happened to you?"
Alex steps into Dr. Bridges' office. "Yes sir," she says, coming to stand in front of his desk. "Miss Feldmeyer told me to come see you. The Dean leans back in his chair and looks her up and down. [b]"Well, Ms. Wykes," he says, "what's this about? What have you done this time? Another petition?" In response Alex looks down at the desk. "No sir. I had to go and let the class know that a boy who said he'd,.. well, You know, um, slept with me. Tell them that he was lying." she raises her eyes. "So i did. Sorry sir, but I had to do something. I don't like it when people tell stories about me tat aren't true!"
Turning to the teacher, Alex nods. "Yes miss." she says, "Sorry, but I just had to make that clear. The dean? Yes miss." As the teacher turns back to the classroom , Alex shoots a quick grin at Kelly. "10:30. OK?". With that, she turns and heads towards the dean's office....
"Where the wild things are?" Alex asks, "Huh? What do you mean? Like,.. bears or something? I don't think I've heard of anything like that. But it'll be OK with two of us? Well then, let's meet at 10.30? That'll give us time to get there by midnight and set everything up. Might be worth bringing a torch. I'll bring everything else we'll need." she smiles cryptically. Class finishes soon. Should we head back?"
"You don't think so?" Alex replies, "Do you have any ideas?"
Alex frown as Kelly maintains a hold on the brush and meets her eyes for a moment, considering whether or not to back down. Something about the other girl's eyes - a feral quality, makes her nod. "OK, then" she says "Do you think you can sneak out of the dorm tonight? We'll need somewhere private. Somewhere we won't be disturbed." she pauses in thought for a moment. "Apparently there's a cave out in the woods somewhere. - Somewhere near the waterhole. We could try to find it?"
"Cool. Thanks for that. It should do nicely" Alex grins at Kelly and reaches forward to talk the hair brush, which she stuffs into her bag before glancing at her phone. "Class finishes in 15 minutes we should probably get back?"
"Sorry Miss, I've just got something I need to say to everyone." Alex says, turning to face the stunned class "Most of you know me by now, and I'm sure you know Joel here all-too-well. Some of you have probably heard that Joel's been telling people he f+&#ed me. Well, it's not true. I wouldn't screw such a miserable, small-d!#&ed, lying, slimy, stoner virgin if you paid me a million dollars! Got that? Right, Lets go Kelly," she says marching to the door. As she leaves she turns back to the teacher. "Sorry Miss, I just needed to make that clear to everyone. You can get back to the class now." With that, she leaves the room, face flushed with the rush of confronting Joel. Stopping a short distance down the hallway she turns to Kelly. "So, did you get anything? If that piece of s@$# thinks that's all i'm going to do, he's got another thing coming! What'd you get?"
Seeing Joel sitting with his friends, Alex walks in, towards the group, glowering. "JOEL" she says as she storms towards him, causing the group to look up at her, "What the f%+# have you been telling everyone you slime-ball stoner piece of s#**?"
"No, nothing like that" Alex whispers back as they move through the stacks. "Well, not quite like that anyway. Although,.. I wonder...."
Alex pauses for a moment. "Good question. It has to be personal, that's what the book said. Ummm, I think it just has to be something that clearly belongs to him. So not just a pencil or whatever but, I don't know, a diary, a letter, or a custom-made... something, but it could be anything that's just personal that he wouldn't even notice - hair, if there was enough. Toenail clippings'd work too, but that's a bit gross, and i can't see how you'd get them anyway.... Something like that." As the two of them make their way into the library, Alex looks around and heads toward the stacks, trying to see if she can spot their target.
"So you'll help out? You're OK with trying to get something for me?.. Cool. So, I'm thinking I'll confront the creep - Make a bit of a commotion and whilst that's happening you grab something. Doesn't have to be expensive or anything. "Alex says to Kelly as they make their way towards the library
"Whatever" Alex replies to Fred. "Whatever it was it didn't happen! Now like Kelly says, Scoot." In reply to Kelly's words, Alex grimaces. "Let him get away with telling lies about me? I. don't. think. so. You'll help me out? Cool. If we find him and you get the chance just grab something of his for me OK? Something personal. No questions though." With that sticks up her hand. "Miss," she asks when the teacher nods at her. Can Kelly and me go to the library? There's a book there I saw there that I think i might be able to use for this project we're working on."
Alex's voice, when she replies, is icy cold and bares an unmistakable, but surprising hint of menace. "Whatever Joel said I did with him didn't happen," she says to the boy. "As for his 'characteristics' I have no idea what he thinks he has, but I doubt that someone who has to make up things like that has very much to be proud of."
”What did he say?” Alex repeats, her voice taking on a harsh and dangerous edge.
Told everyone? Alex asks, a dark tone entering her voice. Told everyone what, exactly?
Alex watches Kelly lay into Fred, her mouth agape. ”Hang on, “ she says after the other girl’s done. what do you mean ‘do better than Joel?’ What do you think’s up between me and him?”
A blush begins to suffuse Alex’s cheeks as Frederick sits down. As she’s about to speak, however, she’s cut off by Kelly.
As the group make their way back to school, Alex seems lost in thought - the events of the evening had sparked a jumble of mixed emotions in her - horror tinged with sadness at the revelations of the murder, but also a sense of latent power that filled her body and promised of other things she might be able to do. She couldn't wait to get back to reading through the strange book that had showed her how to summon the spirits.
Alex frowns at Joel's words but smiles sheepishly at Kenny. "Yeah, it was kind of intense, wasn't it. I mean, it was horrible hearing what happened to that baby but actually getting it to work. That felt,... good,.. like,.. kind of,.. powerful. We should try it again sometime? Not here though. Maybe somewhere without quite such, um, bad memories? We should probably be getting back to school though, yeah? It's getting pretty late."
"What actually happened here? You said it was some kind of murder / suicide. Yeah? No-one mentioned a baby." Alex asks the other three students.
Alex comes back to awareness of her surroundings finding herself standing by the door with her hand on its handle, and with no idea how she got there. Snatching her hand away she turns to the others, her usually rosy complexion pale and her eyes wide, staring and red with tears. "What just happened?" she gasps, hugging her arms around her body against the suddenly cold feeling that seems to have infused her body. "Did you guys,... did you hear that? It was horrible. That poor baby..."
What's been up with the boards recently - it's pretty frustrating!
Alex's eyes flash open at the sound the cry and the footsteps from downstairs. "Anyone else hear that?" she says, glancing around at the others. "Maybe this is actually working! Remember , we need to concentrate!" She shoots a look over at Joel, fixing him with the firm gaze of her eyes, which seem to have taken on an altogether darker hue than normal - more black than brown, though it could just be a trick of the light. "We need to all be thinking of Lady Clements. Not anyone else." she glances at Mindy. "I don't really know what might happen if you're focussed on the wrong thing. One of the things I read said that it might get,... weird. And not in a good way."
Alex grins as they form a circle and repeat Kenny's words. As nothing continues to happen, however, her shoulders sump and she glances around at the others disappointedly. "How long is it supposed to take till something happens?" she asks. "This doesn't seem to be working." She pauses in thought for a moment. Maybe if we try it a bit differently?.. I think I read something about this sort of thing once...."
"Ok., so i think I read that we should be sitting in a circle, and holding hands too." she says to the others as she lowers herself to the ground. And then we need to focus. Try to put everything out of your head other than Lady Clements out of your mind...
Alex takes a quick glance around the room and then leans out the window. "Ok, looks good. I'll meet you at the front door?" she says with a grin before her head disappears once more through the window. Trying to stay quiet Alex turns and heads for the wide stairs and makes her way down to the doorway which she opens to let the others in (if she can).
Alex shrugs and steps forward. "I'll do it if Mindy doesn't want to." she says, pulling off her jacket and handing it to Megan. With that she gets Joel to crouch down and climbs onto his shoulders. Ok, forward a bit,... left, too far - a bit right. OK, I think i've got it.... Done! After a moment she manages to jimmy the window open and pull herself upward and into the building.
Alex turns and approaches Linda, her hands raised. Whoa. Look, I'm sorry that we got in the way," she says, doing her best to keep her voice quiet "and that Mindy was such a pain in the ass, but if you don't keep it down we might get caught!"
Alex peers into the darkness of the locker room. "Joe? Kenny? Megan? You guys hiding back here? Don't worry, we haven't been caught or anything."
