Alexander smiles broadly. That is an excellent idea Chief Sootscale. When we find our way back to Oleg's we can let them know of our accord. Have a posting put up to let those coming through that your tribe is to be left unmolested and that your territory is to be respected. If you let us know of anyone who breaks the accord that you haven't dealt with yourself we can charge them as a bandit or what have you. At this point we have been dealing with a group or groups that have been raiding traders more north and east of here and that have been making traveling this area dangerous. Any information you find out about these cutthroats would be appreciated.
Alexander nods sagely That is certainly reasonable. I am certain that once people begin coming through again we could work something out. It does take money to keep roads repaired even if it is only to shovel in ruts as well as men payed to look after traveled areas. That is still a while away. I hope to keep a dialogue open with your tribe until that day comes.
Alexander reviews the treaty and looks over the part pertaining to the tolls and brings it up for clarification to the chief. Chief Sootscale I am curious on the mention of toll. Does your tribe normally request a set amount for travelers that pass through your lands or is it in relation to use of the resources mentioned in the treaty or some other variation of rules for collection. I want to make sure to mention it to any others that might pass through your territory so they know to respect the rules you have laid out for your territory. Also I am curious if the accord is recognized by any other kobold tribes? If not could you point them out so we know.
Thanks KenderKin. On the maps it is my preference but I can deal. Using them occasionally for scripted big or complicated fights would be cool. I can understand how real life gets in the way hope things get easier for you.

I prefer maps but I understand that it can be a pain to put them together as well as lay everything out. I also wanted to relay a request from Rowena Kenderkin could you remove Ariarh Kane from the Current Characters section. She wanted to remove it so it doesn't show as active for her on her game list. That doesn't look too bad. I still prefer acting out on a game mat but this isn't a bad compromise.
I can go with what the others have said. One thing that I would add that is only partially related is that combat seems ambiguous at times. That may be my just my particular tastes as a tactically oriented player showing through. I feel that I can't get a grasp of the specifics without a visual representation or a lot more info like distance and placement of friendlies and enemies that kind of thing. In a fight using say Color Spray might end the combat entirely or put us at an significant advantage but without knowing how things are actually laid out I have no idea if it is going to work or even put the party in jeopardy unless I bombard you with questions or put all kinds of if then sentences together. How do you want to work things?
Alexander gives Markov a hand with the sight scouting. I am starting to think leaving most of the supplies and all the hirelings at the trading post for this short sweep of the area was a mistake. The tent would come in handy as well as some of the other items we purchased.
As the others find green wood Alexander digs out a fire pit using his dagger to break up the sod and his mess kit to dig out enough dirt and stone to keep the fire contained once he finds a likely spot to collect the berries preferably down wind of the fire.
Alexander follows the rest of the party out of the range of the spiders wicked looking mandibles. If we build a good sized fire near a large patch of berries maybe we can pick berries without being molested by the spiders and trade off between picking berries and tending to the fire and smoke until we have all the berries we need.
Alexander follows Markov's lead and just goes and picks the berries.
Yes enjoy your time off. I have an in game question how large is the fang berry patch, I wanted to know how practical the smoke out idea is and wondered if we tried to smoke out the spiders how much work it would be.
Looking at the copious amount of webs Alexander takes a moment to ponder the situation before speaking. So how should we proceed? I was thinking we might try to smoke out the spiders but I am not certain if that would work.
Alexander listens to Mikmek surprised to hear of the wolves ferocity. Are the wolves in this area truly that secure in their dominance? Back home the wolves might dare to attack a lone child when starving but it is nearly unheard of for them to strike at a group unless something else is involved.
Alexander listins to Markov suggestion and hardily agrees. We have had a long day and I don't relish setting camp in the dark so I am certainly in favor of that idea.
Alexander responds to Markov idle talk as they move at the pace set out by their guide Mikmek. As I understood from Bokken he uses them for his healing potions as well as some kind of liquor. So I can only assume they offer a decent taste.
Thank you Chief Sootscale, I am mainly looking to get assurances of non aggression from all parties and a promise to try and talk out any issues before resorting to violence in the future. I am not certain how the mites would feel about trading but I could also bring the idea up to Oleg if they are agreeable. Thats all that comes to mind right now. Well I guess the quicker we start for the berries the quicker we get back.
Alexander shrugs not taking the chiefs off handed comment to heart. I agree chief Sootscale the mites are more important and we should be certain of the peace before we leave. I just wanted to see if the tribe happened to know of the berries location. I didn't wish to squander an opportunity to learn more about the local area while it was presented. If they aren't too far away quick side trek before heading back to the fort might be in order. Alexander directs the last statement more to the group then the chief before addressing him again.

Oleg and his wife Svetlana. When we visit we could let them know about your tribe they may be interested in some trading opportunities. If we haven't found the fang berries: We haven't yet found the fang berries do you or any of your followers happen to know the location of the berries. Alexander describes the berries as well as the plants general appearance. Bokken was vague on there location. though he did indicate they were somewhere farther south and that his wild brother was supposed to live nearby.

Sorry before you found us, we made a deal with Bokken, he lives a little ways south east of Oleg's he trades potions at the outpost regularly. We made a deal to purchase potions from him for half cost for a month if we helped him out. As a sign of good faith he allowed us to purchase some healing potions at the discounted rate up front. As I understand it he needs the fang berries for his work.
Seeing as the chief is asking and has been very obliging Alexander takes his request seriously. I wouldn't mind helping the tribe for a little while. Maybe until they feel like there security is better equipped to deal with threats. They certainly shed blood with us and earned my respect. Besides we have had a busy day and night traveling back and forth. Waiting at least a day or two shouldn't hold us up badly We may even be able to get a better idea of the surrounding area by talking with some of the tribe. We still have to find and pick some fang berries for Bokken the potion maker. He provided us a discount for the healing potions we have on our word alone. I wish to pay back his trust.

Feeling out of his element Alexander still steps forward to speak to the chief believing it his duty as a member of the noble houses. I would like to apologies in advance I am a battle leader not a diplomat so I may be coming off as rude but how does your tribe view the treaty Chief Sootscale? We are likely not from the same house or even country as the humans you made the original treaty with, would that matter to you or your tribe? Alexander looks pensive for a moment. I wish to deal with you and your tribe in good faith. My companions and I are only the first of what will likely be many new human settlers into these lands. My first priority in this matter is of coarse peaceful interactions between our peoples. Having said that do you have any specific concerns that we can talk about or anything that your tribe might be hoping for in future relations between our people?
We may need the treaty Mikmek and a translator. I don't believe any of us speak under common which is the Mites primary language if our last encounter was any indication.
Alexander nods his head in agreement when Markov mentions a healer. Well I do have A couple of men that are ex bandits turned hired hands currently being put to work at Oleg's to upgrade the place's defenses but I agree we do need some people with more specialized training. Alexander makes a sweeping gesture that encompasses the general activity. As to this I believe we should focus on getting the two tribes to come to an accord on ceasing hostilities and to start friendly relations with them. It would be nice to know that we could resupply or rest at either tribes camp if need be.

Having some mixed feelings about continuing myself. Was really enjoying playing this character and kept at it partly due to Ro and Tass when I was getting a little overwhelmed with real life stuff. I will try to keep at it though.
Alexander can't help but smile back at Rowena despite his previous commitment to act tough in front of the Kobolds.
Alexander nods his head on the question of Crackjaw. I believe waiting for Crackjaw would be best. Besides the issue of a language barrier. We already took part in breaking the sanctity of there home once, Crackjaw may be able convince them that what was done was necessary to prevent further violence.
Alexander listens some before putting forth his opinion. If Tartuk can be found and caught it may help matters to turn him over to the mites for justice. Even offering his body and explaining that he was the force behind the conflict may help mend some fences. As to the traps and defenses I would suggest having your men start to carry chalk dust or flour bundled in cloth. If you or your men have suspicions that Tartuk has returned while invisible the dust can be thrown into the air to try and pin point his location. It isn't perfect but it does offer a means to counter that particular trick again. I imagine chalk dust shouldn't be to hard to collect.
It may be the the ring Svetlana lost but no way of knowing for certain until we take it and show it to her. It must have taken a long strange trip to be found in Tartuk's hoard unless he was working with the bandits.
When the book is brought out Alex takes a turn at studying it but can't make heads or tails of the language. Sorry don't know the language and I don't have access to the spell your referring to which I believe called Comprehend Languages. It is not one normally learned within my discipline.
Alexander strikes with his sword after concentrating for a moment careful to avoid the creatures attacks lacing the blade of his rapier with biting frost.
Alexander stabs at the creature with his rapier before attempting to cast a minor offensive magic that fizzles out almost immediately as Alexander's concentration is broken. Alexander takes a step back as he attempts to position himself better defensively after the stinging hit from the beast.
KenderKin this seems like a very unbalanced fight considering the challenges we have faced so far. I currently have an AC of 20 the highest in the group at this point and it has a 50 50 chance of hitting me. 3 people in our group are nearly guaranteed to be hit any time it attacks them and all of this is being determined by a random die role. Next round Nedyr will likely be down assuming even average roles for hit and damage. Since it will only miss him on a 5 or less. That isn't even taking into count anything Tartuk does. Unless the kobolds actually start doing something this is likely to be a party wipe.
In Draconic:
This is no god only a summoned beast, focus on its master Tartuk. with him dead it will disappear. With the warning given Alexander summons power to his blade and barks out a quick spell of shielding before carefully advancing on Tartuk
Just to let you know Alex also has had Draconic as one of his languages from the beginning. Just haven't mentioned it in this game thread. I am content to let the kobolds think I am ignorant of there language at this point.
Alexander mentally reviews the spells he has prepared as they move through the tunnels his hand resting on the pommel of his rapier as they proceed. His thoughts focused on one thing No one from our company will die tonight!
Alexander takes Rowena's near hand brings it to his lips as he bends down to gently kiss its back. Alexanders face shows relief as his head tips back up as he allows Ro's hand to naturally slip from his as they ride back.
Rowena:

Alex appears wistful for a moment before continuing but that is still some time away and we have a messy business soon ahead. Alexander slips into silence as he prepares for the possible fight offering his attention to Ro as they ride but commits little else to the conversation.

I was taught by my uncle that to be born noble is a responsibility that we are to work hard all our lives to live up too. The works you have done in the time we have traveled together makes you noble in my eyes. I have no doubt of your character. Alexander seems like he wishes to say more but instead begins to move. Alexander reaches to the hand that fits his Signet Ring and pulls it from his finger and lays it in Rowena's hand. Rowena: I may need of it from time to time for correspondence but it is as safe on your hand or as it is on mine. It represents my trust respect and admiration for you. As well as a promise that when we are able I will find a ring that I might replace it with something that will fit your fine hand much better then this one. Alexander seems nervous as he waits for Ro to respond.
Alexander answers Ro's amd Markov's concerns with his own. That was a little to easy. but stops a moment to measure those concerns against the logic of the situation. At this point it seems unlikely to be a trap it would seem more likely the mite does not wish to be found colluding with an enemy by stealing the tribes war trophy. Either way we should be away before the tribe can react to the theft. Once the group is on the move and has made a little distance from the mite's tree Alexander rides close enough to speak privately to Rowena Rowena: I would have spoken earlier but I did not wish to say anything at the time since it seemed to be a point of concern for you and I have a habit of tripping over my tongue when I don't think before I speak. Any way, I just wished to say your value is much greater then any sum of gold Ro. I am sure Tassira feels as I do in this. Alexander smiles impishly for a moment. Well maybe not quite the same as I do.
