Alec breathes easier as the skeleton finally goes down. When Nat starts asking for rope the bard hastily looks in his pack but doesnt find any. When the warrior finds some, Alec lends a hand in offering to pull the Parhfinder out of the hole.

Shocked that the zombie head missed the skeleton, Alec nevertheless continues inspiring the group while chanting out another spell, more zombie parts flinging ar the skeleton, hopefully with more impact.

Continuing his helpful banter, Alec inspires his team to greatness even as he chants a different spell. Seamlessly combining spellcasting and inspirational song and chant without others noticing is truly a Bard's greatest skill, and Alec was well practiced. As his spell completes, the decapitated head of a zombie raises a few feet in the air, then zips towards the skeleton at high speed.

you are correct Nat, that's what get typing a post while juggling a yelling infant and crazy toddler. I transposed the dice result with my TAC. Got distracted with looking up what enfeeblement did. I was gonna magic missile the skeleton regardless

Alec curses as a wave of weakness washes over his body after the black ray hit, instantly he knows his blade will be less useful against the skeleton magic user.

Luckily his blade isn't his only option. Quickly chanting his way through a spell, grabbing a pinch of dust as he does so, 3 darts of energy flare from his outstretched fingers and unerringly zip to the skeleton.

Seeing Nat under assault and getting hammered, Alec abandons his plan to hurl magic at the caster skeleton.

Instead he steps forward and slashes out with his longsword and the zombie strangling Nat.

Cursing as the rogue drops again, Alec prepares to hack the offending kobold in two when an icy beam of light streaks over his shoulder and drops the thing.

Kneeling by the rogue he hurls the mini-dragon things body off their rogue and checks him over, "Who has that med kit? I'm out of potions."

Yeah, it seems like even lowly enemies in 2.0 have a +6 or +5 to hit at level 1, which means they are hitting light and medium armor pretty often. Guess that's why they boosted the starting HP

Alec listens to the kobold and eyes the large pit dubiously.

"Um, who were your other allies?"

Then, aside to his companions. "What are the chances they let us do all the fighting, then turn on us after. 50/50?"

Staggering under still more pounding fists and clawed fingers, Conor still manages to keep his feet, desperately wishing he'd had time to draw his sword and shield before the horde arrived. Knowing they needed to stop the tide now, as they would surely fall, he manages to call out encouragement to his companions, if in a ragged and raspy voice, spitting blood between gasps.

Finally, with the last of his strength he gasps out the spell of undead destruction again, desperately hoping it is enough to finally stem the tide.

Alec takes the boy aside and tries to calm him down some, out of the view of the gruesomely hacked gang members.

Returning to the group, he says, "The only extra bit I could get from him he heard one Barber musing the murder of their own might be revenge for the hired killing of some half-elf cleric. Might be evidence, might be nothing"

He finishes thoughtfully, "doesnt seem to be much else here to go on. Fantastic blade work Pawl."

Wincing at his new, but minor cuts, Alec is ready to move on.

Stopping at the mouth of the doorway at the boy's word, Alec smiles a crooked grin and draws his longsword.

"Well then, we best not keep them waiting, or we'll get you in some trouble. We've been wanting words with these folk, true."

Looking to his group, Alec indicates the doorway with a nod and a wink, ready to head blithely into the ambush anyway.

As the group sits, Alec makes casual conversation with the barber. Mundane things like the weather and price of yams. Finally he gets around to other topics.

"Must be strange being a Barber in this area, what with that criminal gang who claim to be barbers. What were they called? The Band of the Palm? I'm not sure, rumors you know. Anyone bug you about them? I wonder if they even exist. I suppose a barber like you gets all kinds through your shop, ya know?"

I guess I wasnt going for pointed questions, yet. But seeing what might drop in conversation.

As the group walks Alec muses with the others. "I highly doubt it was the barbers that killed Justerian. Claw marks looked little like fine straightraozr cuts, and I dont recall any stories of the Bsrbers being Urgathoa worshippers. I do suspect they may have more clues, or another Avenue to search. I cant imagine a few freed slaves didnt make their way into the Barber's ranks."

I was wondering about the difficulty, they do seem tougher, might be interesting with our lack of healers. Maybe I should have snatched Soothe as a spell. A swarm and an AOE ooze at the same time could be rough for level 1s

Seeing as how the group seemed to be healed up some from their fracas, Alec grins, blows out a breath, coughs once, then hefts his blade and starts poking around the garbage pile room, 'Guess we best get to investigating, gods this stinks"

so, my confusion was persistent damage on page 323 indicates you get a flat DC 20 check each round to negate, and it goes down to a DC15 after you take corrective action. I would think a healing potion qualifies?
