male Human Ranger 1/Sorcerer 1: HP (13/13): AC (19/touch=14/flat=14): Saves (Fort=4/Ref=6/Will=3): Initiative +4: Perception +7: Sense Motive +3

Just posting to let you know I've been checking for new posts everyday. I'm assuming you are still going forward with this and as stated, waiting for players to post?"

male Human Ranger 1/Sorcerer 1: HP (13/13): AC (19/touch=14/flat=14): Saves (Fort=4/Ref=6/Will=3): Initiative +4: Perception +7: Sense Motive +3

A human male shoves and growls his way forward. He wears blue weatherworn hide armor, and has a greataxe strapped to his back. Locals may recognize him. He occasionally ventures into the city to trade for supplies and make an occasional purchase. While they find him a bit odd for choosing to live in the wilderness versus the comfortable convenience and safety of the city, he is always friendly when he visits and fair in his trading.

"Finally! With this rite of passage I prove to you all that Kassan is part of where I call home and with honor I accept the great tradition Mayor Uptal has seen fit to bestow on me."

Akvius takes a stand next to Daniel and quickly looks him over from head to toe. After developing a quick impression the man he anxiously looks around to see who else will be joining them.

And NOW for the exciting anticipation of having your name called out!

Good luck to everyone!

Here's the backstory, let's see if this will work:

Background:
. Not long after Akvius was born, his parents disappeared. As a helpless baby tiefling, his care was left to a reclusive, but respected wizard in Kenabres, who was known to study the mysteries of the planes, with a particular focus on the Worldwound. One day, less than a month after being accepted by the wizard, a sharp emotional pain surge through his body. He would later assume this to be a "link" between his parents and himself that signified their painful deaths. The intense surge created a catalyst that manifested arcane magic potential inside Akvius' DNA. The sudden burst ripped a hole in time itself and created a portal below the baby in his crib that Akvius fell through, and appeared in Sarkoris before the Abyss began to open.

. By chance, or perhaps by fate, Akvius' teleportation delivered him to the home of a human sorceress. Immidiately spotting a unique rune emblazed on Akvius' body as a birthmark of importance. Sensing his innate magic energy, she decided to care for the tiefling baby, more with the intention of studying and trying to harness Akvius' magic for herself than compassion. As human nature and a female mothering instinct would have it, she grew to love Akvius as if he was her own flesh and blood. Teaching him her own sorcery and helping Akvius tap into his own power, she spent years with him. Bringing them to 4606 AR, the year the Abyss began to open. Knowing they could not stay in Sarkoris, they followed the masses in a migration away from the spreading evil. Traveling through the Shudderwood they came across an unconscious hooded man. Attempted to assist the apparently incapacitated traveler, they found he not only was also a tiefling, but he bore an exact match of Akvius' birthmark on his arm. In Akvius' amazing he brought his mark as close as possible to the other tiefling's to compare the 2 side by side. Upon the 2 marks contacting, a pain fired through Akvius he had experienced once before... as a baby. Again wracked with arcane energy, he began to black out. Not before noticing a portal form under him, as he then fell through the void. In an instant, Akvius felt a clawed grip around his neck and the saw 2 strangers (man and woman) screaming in fear and desperation before suddenly silenced. He then felt the clawed grip slip and opened his eyes in a strangely familiar room.
. In what appeared to be a few seconds, Akvius materialized back in the crib, inside the wizards home whom he had been left with as a newborn. The wizard witnessing the apparent instant transformation from baby to adolescent, was only able to be distracted from his amazement by a glowing rune on Akvius' body that immediately faded into a Sign of the Seeker’s Spiral. A symbol the wizard was familiar with. The wizard shortly after confirmed Akvius was in Kenabres now in the year 4707 AR. He spent several years teaching Akvius his knowledge as a wizard, along with a host of other academic studies. As his knowledge grew, a meld of his sorcerous and wizarding skills presented a very unique arcanist form of power.
. With suggestion, study, and counseling, the wizard was able to interpret several events in Akvius' life. The information that burned into mind though was that the screaming couple were his parents, and the clawed grip belonged to a monstrosity that must have killed them and was still alive. An adult now, he has come to the knowledge that another tiefling, with a Sign of the Seeker’s Spiral, travels with a party of heroic crusaders. This sign is unmistakable and Akvius MUST join this party to see where his destiny lies.

I tried to incorporate aspects of Voren's story to imply some sort of connection to my character, but still vague enough to let DM either run with it or not. Hopefully it explains: class, many skill choices, mythic path, affinity for teleportation effects, ect.

Thank you for your consideration

I'm still getting the story put together, but this alias should have the crunch for gossamar4's tiefling arcanist

since this character has been selected for a different game, I humbly bow out.

Thank you, and good luck all

RP sample huh... Akvius (witch cartomancer) scratches his head for a moment.

"Shall we go to the cards?" Akvius produces a deck of Harrow Cards from under his robe. He shuffles them a few times, occasionally flinging one spinning over his head and catching it in the deck perfectly. He turns each over slowly and places them in line on the table in front of him. "A-ha. Hmmmmmm. I see. Interesting." Akvius strokes chin in between his thumb and index finger for a moment, then speaks... "It seems the deck calls for at least a fellowship of 4 to succeed. It goes on to indicate a 5th member brings not only increased success, but added wealth as well!" He gathers up the cards and his tiefling tail gracefully takes them from his hand and replaces the deck under his robe. "The cards have spoken. What you DO with their wisdom, will be up to you!"

"આગળ જાઓ અને નસીબ તમારા શાણપણ પર સ્મિત નંબર."

Infernal:
"Go forth and may fortune smile upon your wisdom."

Hopefully this will pass as a RP sample for you.

I anxiously await the decision. Good luck to all.

. In the small farming town of Trunau, we find a small ragged tent near the city's farmers market. Outside the tent is a crude sign labeled "Fortune Telling". Inside sits a tiefling named Akvius Syrthos. He passes time between the few patrons that seek his insight, by shuffling a Harrow Deck and occasionally flipping a few over on yop of the barrel in front of him concealed with tablecloth decorated in moons, suns, stars and the like. Obviously an attempt to add credibility to the promised services.

. As he turns over the 1st card, an energy showers over him. More so than the occasional "vision" he receives from the mysterious patron that, depending on your perception, either curses or blesses Akvius with his abilities. It signifies a king! As soon he sees the card a picture forms in his head. It's that of Deskari, Lord of the Locust Host. The 2nd comes with a higher intensity of energy. It signifies an army. A different sight comes to focus in his mind. It's a vast collection of vicious demons. Akvius flips card after card over, and each continues to provide increased intensity. The Ivory Labyrinth. Several powerful devils. A mystical gateway between planes. Each card he turns shocks him with a higher intensity of power, followed by a single "photograph" imprinted in his head. He flips each card over faster than the previous. Finally he grabs one last card and as he goes to flip it over, he's struck with such a powerful blast of energy that he is propelled off the small wooden milking stool he was sitting on... unconscious to the ground. When he wakes up, he struggles to grab the barrel and pull his head high enough to see a single card sitting in the center of the table. The card of DEATH!

. Knowing this prophecy must not be allowed to manifest, Akvius begins a journey to find the right group of "heroes", with the skills to thwart this future from happening. Willing to lend his gifts of magic, intellect, languages, and social skills... he only hopes whatever being controls this world will grant him the opportunity to help mold an alternate reality than the horror he has predicted.

background:
Akvius has spend his life on this plane an even through persecusion from his tiefling lineage, this is his home. As they say, "Fight FIRE, with FIRE!" Perhaps his ancestral ties to the oncoming hoarde will provide an answer to defeating the demons. With the prediction he received, he travels to Kenabres to lend what aid he can in the upcoming campaign.

Tiefling Witch (Cartomancer)

Mythical path - Trickster

As soon he sees the card a picture forms in his head. It's that of Queen lleosa Arabasti. The 2nd comes with a higher intensity of energy. It signifies an army. A different sight comes to focus in his mind. It's a vast collection of undead fighters. Akvius flips card after card over, and each continues to provide increased intensity. A castle. Several monstrous creatures. A crown. Each card he turns shocks him with a higher intensity of power, followed by a single "photograph" imprinted in his head. race/class:
I hope this provides enough to validate a Tiefling, de-buff witch. I know it's more of an "event" than a complete backstory, so I can certainly add more about the character if requested.

The race is easy to change if needed (to either elf or human), tiefling just seem to be perfect for the stigma and mystery of a witch and tarot card reader to fit the archetype (Cartomancer). I've only recently tried out the witch class and really enjoy the "make the rest of the party look good" aspect of the buff/de-buff classes. If I can help the fighter make that exciting final blow that brings down the enemy; or, make it possible for the magic user to have that "cool" spell... not to be lost to an unexpected saving throw, then I have made a valuable contribution to the party AND the player.

backstory:
Having escaped slavery in Cheliax, Akvius tries to find a new life in Korvosa. While Korvosa was not necessarily his intended destination, he has managed to find his work as a fortune teller profitable enough to sustain himself. It seems with the sorted history of Korvosa, many are interested to get an insight to what the future holds for them and the city. His outward appearance (tiefling) may raise some eyebrows here and there, but it seems to add credibility in his chosen profession. Perhaps providing a unique marketing gimmick unavailable to other harrowers of the city. Akvius' ability to speak to most races in their native languages also seems to ease their speculation.

"Thank you, my new friends. Now let me see.." Akvius rummages through his pack and pulls out a shiny wand. "... Ah... Here it is. Relax a moment Sir d'Garess."

Akvius twist his wrist holding the wand and says.. "Facio, Voco, Ferre"

Draconic:
"This I do, I call, to bring you forth"

He then taps Evard lightly with the wand

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

"That doesn't seem to be good enough."

Akvius repeats the procedure...

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"Maybe, just one more time."

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

"That's seems right. How do you feel now?"

"My name is Akvius Sirthos. I thank you for preventing whatever fate those 2 had in mind for me. I'm a simple proveyor of alchemical goods and potions. I had interest in opening a new shop, and was out here collecting herbs and components to craft some items with which to stock a new shop with. I may have suffered an effect of a strange new plant specimen, but as I search my memory, I have no idea how I came to be held in this cage. I awoke a few moments ago, very confused at my current predicament. In any case, it seems this land is best not travelled alone, and would be grateful to accompany you. I have other useful talents I can provide besides brewing and alchemy. Shall we strike an accord?"

Akvius, too preoccupied to notice his equipment, struggles to free him self, but only manages to release a sigh of frustration at the complicated knot binding him.

With the captors now focused on the travelers, Akvius will try and shimmy out of the bonds that hold his hands. He also will try and look around for his gear (assuming he was stripped of it when he was bound)

Akvius notices a possible solution. Perhaps the distant travelers will be helpful to his plight. On the other hand, these could be fellow press gangers. Akvius decides to try and keep his captures occupied enough to prevent them noticing the travelers ahead, as they seem to be on the verge of coming towards his location.

"Who is the stag lord? What gives him claim over these lands? What make you so sure I DON'T have his permission?"

"Uhhhhhgggggg, where am I?" Akvius says groggily. Overcome with confusion, anxiety, and helplessness, he begins uncontrollably spitting out whatever comes to mind, trying to get some answers and shed light on his predicament. Still not fully aware of who is around, he spouts each question in different languages, hoping to get a response from one that will give an indication of who his captors are...

"நரகத்தில் என்ன நிலை இது?"

Infernal:
"What level of hell is this?"

"Ποιοι είστε εσείς?"

Elven:
"Who are you people?"

"Каде ќе ме водиш?"

Dwarven:
"Where are you taking me?"

"Jinsi gani mimi kupata hapa?"

Orc:
"How did I get here?"

"Quid sum ego, et in vinculis tid?"

Draconic:
"Why am I tied up and chained?"

as Akvius' senses begin to return, he looks around to take inventory of his environment, foremost on his mind is getting free. Hopefully his educated mind can devise a means of escape. What will yield the best results and minimal consequences? Diplomacy? Intimidation? Manipulating the restraints? Patience? He decides to start with a simple understanding of his current situation...

"Would anyone care to explain the reason for my imprisonment?"

Sorry again for the delay. This is NOT an indication of my typical posting. I'm usually checking for updated 3+ times/day. I'm pretty excited to be asked to join.

@Evard (in-combat healing): Out of combat healing can only be done if the party makes it to the "out of combat" time. As everyone knows, actions are limited resources and should be used with the benefit of the party's survival in mind. If this requires some in-combat healing... gladly.

I'm gonna try and read through the entire adventure so far, but a brief summary of the important parts, and current focus would be greatly appreciated.

@Everyone: I'm an alchemist, I make potions, alchemical items (1/2 cost). Depending on our "downtime rules", If you have any requests, please ask.

@DM: Please let me know when to "jump in"

Thank you

sorry, I didn't see that I needed to start posting. Do I need to bump up to lvl 2?

I would love to jump in. Should I move on over to the discussion and gameplay? I'll just need to bump up to lvl 2 tonight.

"I have been toying with the idea of opening a new shop (see background). This seems like a great opportunity for businessman like myself to get established in the development of a GREAT city, from the ground up."

Really excited to use the Ultimate Campaign downtime rules

"Of course, if this new shop is going to be successful, I'll need to stock it with staple items: various potions, consumables, ect."

Good thing Akvius is an alchemist with the ability to brew potions and create various alchemical items.

"It also would be beneficial to discover some unique item, that may only be found in this region, drawing in travelers from afar for trade and commerce. It may take some research, exploration, and creativity... but with the right social network (other players), this new town could really be amazing, and if I play my cards right, I'll be the biggest proveyor of my line of goods, or possibly more!"

Akvius' tiefling eyes seem to glow from the dream of either wealth, power, or both. Will his vision come to pass? Please accept him for this AP and find out.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hope I'm not too late. I thought I had already submitted, but didn't see my name on the list. Would love to be considered. Thank you

dotting.

While not a classical healer. He is an Alchemist, he can provide healing via wand CLW, potions, or extracts. He can also provide damage to prevent the need for healing in the first place.

He's at lvl 1 right now, but can quickly level up to 2 and be ready to join up in 1 day.

I will typically post 3+/day or as needed.

Thank you for your consideration

dotting for submission.

Bomber Alchemist

Per background, has a business that deals in potions. So he would be coming to investigate mainly to create an alchemical cure, but also possibly incorporating the disease itself into a bottled weapon and/or formulae.

He is a tiefling, but not evil.

I am very interested in getting into a long term party. I typically post 3+/day.

(p.s. if alchemist isn't a good fit, I am flexible and will play a different class if needed, I just wanna play)

I would appreciate my consideration

"These are all good ideas. I especially lie the reminder of the 'good ole days'. It conveys a nostalgia, as well as the hope of a return to better times. Is the goblin to be the first appearance of this, or should the symbol be present before we deal with the goblin, so that the link between the two is not misconstrued? Personally, I would suggest the former. It wastes no time dealing with the current danger, and provides a BOLD introduction to this symbol."

When did Arael and Janiven recruit you?

Being meticulous with the bookkeeping in his shop, not long ago, Akvius discovered a surge in sales of his products. This could easily been written off to running a good business, except that the same 2 names were either on the receipts or being referred in to in casual conversation about customers' reasons for their purchases. After some mutual exchanges of increasingly personal experiences and motives, trust has been built. Resulting in an invitation to a "secret" meeting with the understanding that Akvius was under no obligation to join, but should he not be interested, his silence about the conversations in that meeting, would ensure no sudden "drop" in sales at the shop would occur. Polite blackmail? Maybe? Akvius' curiosity has peaked though, and with an open mind arrives at the location given to him slightly later than suggested.

--------------------------------------------------

After a while of simply listening to get a basic understanding of what is going on...

"In order for this 'Free Citizens of Westcrown' to grow you need marketing. As a local businessman, this is something I have some knowledge in. I would suggest creating a symbol, and making it's association to this group known. Then display this symbol with any act that points to the improvement of the city, or defiance of this town's oppression. Once you've got this positive reinforcement in place, you'll have no problem rallying folks to your cause. If you feel the time is not right for this bold of a statement, I concur that 'word of mouth' can also go a long way"

Akvius pauses for a moment then with a more serious and emotional voice says...

"I've lived here all my life. I love this town, and it's people. If this goblin has anything to do with our children, he MUST be dealt with! If I may be of assistance, I have some 'special' skills I would be honored to offer in this endeavor."

I see you are replacing an Alchemist. Here is my submission. Than you for your consideration. I would love to join.

How long has your character lived in Westcrown?

Entire life

What is your day job in Westcrown? (Your character needs to have a job - in between the "adventuring" you will live your life.)

fairly recently took over ownership of alchemy, potion store (see background)

Why does your character harbor resentment or frustration against the government?

government condones slavery, exploitation of tieflings (see background)

When did Arael and Janiven recruit you?

These names were not in player's guide for CoT, but given a little info about their role, I could come up with something quickly, or if you want to come up with your own idea, either way.

Here is a quickly thrown together back-story, and tweek of my original post. I hope it is good enough to earn me a spot.
