I would not expect otherwise of you M'Lady. But I thought it clever to keep unfriendly eyes from seeing you as easy prey. Besides I feel luckier having you close by.

Aconitus says quietly with a smile as he pulls Ysmerelda's arm closer.

Aconitus escorts Ysmerelda through town holding onto her arm tightly so as to show he is trying to protect her. He tries to ignore the stares, and guides her to one of the taverns in town. When he arrives he order them both a drink and some food.

Might I suggest we take notes now, then head off to lunch. It will be my treat of course, and perhaps we could get a feel for the mood of the locals while on a stroll through the town.

Aconitus hand's Ysmerelda an empty book and a quill so that she might record her notes. He flashes a somewhat awkward smile while waiting for her to take the book.

Hope you found some interesting information, I'm afraid all I found was useless dribble. Anything specifically of note in the books your are reading?

Aconitus says to Ysmerelda.

Aconitus will pay the remainder.

K. Local (untrained vs undead): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Yikes

Aconitus looks very bored as he is reading through the books on history and starts to nod off. When this happens he looks for books on Nature and Arcana to try and fight off the slumber.

K. Nature/Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Sorry for the Wall of text
Aconitus stands stunned at the reception he has received. Not used to this sort of behavior, he tries to formulate an idea for how to convince the man to let him see his books.

Alendru, may I call you Alendru? We are about to venture into the prison, and of course it is very dangerous. Now with the books you provide here, it would behoove you to assist us so that we may be better prepared to deal with what's inside.

He pauses for a moment to let it all sink in.

I mean think of the opportunity, a group of would be do-gooders enter an old haunted prison. The fire burned everything to the ground, and I am sure the haunting has kept grave robbers away. What sort of treasures would have been left behind that are untouched and forgotten?

Once he sees Alendru catching on.

And here we are, all we are requesting is access to your information so we know where to go. If we get in there and don't have a clue about anything. Then we could be wandering for days, find nothing of importance, and could never bring you anything from inside. Learning the layout and the... history would be powerful in uncovering some of the secrets and... artifacts that may have been left behind. So I ask again, will you allow us to peruse your books, with the idea that we would use you exclusively to handle any sort of monetary item, or privileged information held within the walls?

Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15

TLDR: Want him to let us use his books now and we will bring any items we find to him so we can sell or appraise them.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Yeah, Unfurling scroll, lunch, then Town Hall. Or some variation therof.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

10 Gold pieces, A DAY? To use a library? Are you daft? Not to be rude, but is this something you would charge regular citizens as well?

Aconitus studies how the man reacts to come up with the proper approach for negotiating the use of his library.

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

But of course my dear, I would love company.

Aconitus smiles and as they depart he holds out his arm to escort the lady to their destination.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Slept well thank you.

Aconitus quickly eats breakfast and is ready within an hour of waking up. As others depart he says.

For those of you who don't "fit in", do try and take care. I would hate to add more grief to this already painful occasion. If any of you would care to join me, I think I saw a nice tavern for lunch this afternoon. That should do nicely.

With a wave and a smile he departs for the Unfurling Scroll.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Aconitus will be going to the unfurling Scroll and City hall to study with the others going there. He will be paying close attention to details about ghosts and alchemical means to destroy them.

Harrowstone used to be a pretty high profile prison. If it is haunted, I suspect we will be facing some of the expired inmates, or what is lift of them. Not something to be taken lightly.

He pauses for a brief moment.

Nice to meet all of you. Tomorrow sounds like it will be a long day so I am going to take my rest early. I hope each of you has a good night sleep.

Aconitus bows to everyone and retires to his room.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Of course, as you all know, my name is Dr. Aconitus. I grew up in a small village not far from here, and graduated top of my class. I met the professor while on an... expedition... him not me. He managed to save my life, and I, having nowhere else to go, followed him and learned as much as I could. He taught me a great deal about the undead that plague this region, and we fought side by side for several years.

Aconitus pauses for a moment thinking about how much he wishes to divulge and chooses he next words extremely carefully.

It was from, the professor, that I learned my ability for alchemy. He taught me some of the more powerful recipes I know, and ever since then my interest has been much more than passive.

He goes over his words in his head and continues.

He taught me to fight with my mace, and to use my alchemical skills as an aid when strength or will alone is not enough. I honor the professor for everything he provided me. I would go so far as to say I owed him my life. A debt I don't take lightly and, should the need arise, gladly repay.

Aconitus takes his seat facing the fire and looks lost once again.

Now you know about me. By all means, please continue.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

I think that is a splendid idea. We should take tonight to get to know each other, and discuss our knowledge of what lies ahead. I fear that our mission will not be trivial, and that it require a bit of preparation on our part.

Aconitus finishes his tea and pours himself another.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Knowledge Arcane/Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

I think it is wise that we should read up on ghosts before we go. The undead are not to be taken lightly.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Thank you darling for the Tea. It is much appreciated.

Aconitus takes a long drink of his tea while lost in thought staring at the fire. He barely even notices when she comes back with the key, somewhat startled when she clears her throat.

Thank you again, lets see what we have here.

He inspects the contents and is intrigued by the book that is clearly labeled, read me now.

I am pretty sure the professor meant for us to look at this one. Aconitus says while pulling it out of the box. Shall I read it aloud, or would you all prefer I read it to myself?

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

That does sound like fun (as a huge fan of B-movies).

If you click on your name in the top bar, then click on the campaigns tab, all your games show up there. That is how I keep track of them.

Welcome aboard Nitemare, Looks like you have quite a bit of EXP.

I started playing 3.0 when it first came out and stopped around 2005. Just got back into pathfinder about a year ago and also did not like what I saw from 4th Ed.

I am a fan of pretty much all RPGs, but I haven't played many. Some of the rules in the books I have picked up are very convoluted and seem like unfun systems most of the time(though I have 0 playtime). I LOVE the d20 Star Wars RPG, and have thought about Edge of the Empire. I just dunno who to game with :(.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

I am fine but I appreciate the notion...

Aconitus says never breaking his gaze with the fire. He also seems uninterested in the quarrel between the others.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

I packed light, so when everyone is ready we can depart.

Aconitus calmly drinks his tea while staring into the fire.

I will stay as long as you need Miss Kendra.

I say that is interesting.

Aconitus moves to Raldora swiftly to inspect her closely, completely oblivious to how she might feel.

This is remarkable, you seem to have undergone many changes from being a human.

Finally realizing what he is doing.

Apologies. I find this remarkable none-the-less. I am afraid, if I can be so bold as to interject an opinion, you may have chosen a very close minded region to travel to. Not to say you are not welcome, but I can only infer that you are either very brave; or very stupid.

He pauses for a moment feeling as though he forgot something.

Oh but I mean no offense. I just mean that Ustalov is not know for their acceptance of outsiders. However, I do not share that mindset and wish to welcome you.

He moves to the fireplace and starts a fire with one of the logs.

Is it a little chilly to anyone else?

He presses his hands to the fire and warms them gently, finally taking a seat in the closest armchair.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Another hunter? Well met good sir. Of course!

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Aconitus is very well spoken and articulate with each word.

Name is Dr. Aconitus, I studied the undead under the professor for a number of years. He even taught me a bit of alchemy, which has proven to be most fruitful.

Turning to Dr. Aderly.

I may have heard the name before, but I fear we may be students of different sciences. I study ways in which alchemical aids assist and harm the body. I have never preformed surgery, Although I have never really had the need either.

Fletchlings: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Flethlings are a curious species. Humans exiled to the plane of shadow, I could not imagine what living there would do to a person. However I hold no ill will towards anything other than the undead. I suppose if I were to come face to face with one, it would be no different than meeting a stranger such as yourselves.

He walks to the window and peers out looking at the moon.

I knew the professor a long time ago. If not for him, I am afraid I wouldn't be here today.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

I remember once the professor and I were trapped at the back of a tomb fighting for our life against what seemed like an endless wave of ghouls. I offered to draw them away so he could escape and he simply wouldn't have it. Eventually we were able to fit into a large room and barricade ourselves in. We spent a couple of nights in there thinking about what we would do, and eventually hunger set in. We were faced with the cold hard truth that we would need to fight our way out.

So we got all prepared for what seemed like our deaths, and started going through the ghouls. We ran into another group of tomb raiders, and they helped us get out. From that day on, when things looked like they were at their worst; the professor always reminded me that at least we were not back at that tomb.

I would fight all of the ghouls in that tomb over again, if it meant I could spend another day with him. He will be missed.

ROLL: 1d20 ⇒ 6
ROLL2: 1d20 ⇒ 2

My good man, I say. I have met necromancer's and this man is nothing of the sort. To accuse so is not only a horrid accusation against any man, but against him would be as if saying Iomedae was a follower of Rovagug.

Please do not try to stop us, for proximity of supposed necromancer corpses to other bodies has never been scientifically proven to cause any sort of harm to them. We only wish to bury our friend in peace. If it is a fight you are seeking, I would be happy to oblige you at a later time.

Aconitus keeps his calm, trying to use large words to confuse the man.

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Feel free to take us on whatever side adventure you want. Game is yours.

A tall thin man dressed in very fine clothing strides through the door. He has a walking cane, and is wearing a pair of glasses. Immediately he walks up to the coffin as if to confirm that which he did not want to believe in the first place. He turns to Kendra and Miss Lorrimor and bows.

I can not imagine what you must be feeling right now. I knew your husband and father was a good man. To think that he has been taken from us is just something I could not believe until now. I will say a prayer for you, and help as best I can to get you through this tough time.

He bows graciously again, and takes a seat close to the front row.

Yeah, I am seeing the same thing. I ran them through Hangman's Noose so that I could get my Undead/Horror fix. It was a little spooky, but I think they prefer more of a whimsical game...

I am debating subjecting them to Carrion Hill though. With Pregens built modeling Fictional horror characters(Ash, Van Helsing, Dr. Jekyl, Dr. Frankenstein).

Male Human Alchemist (Ragechemist) 1 [ HP: 13/13 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 13 | F: +3 R: +3 W: +0 | Init: +1 Perc:+7 | Effects: none]

Reporting in. Stoked to be running CC. I wanted to run it with my group, but they decided to be pirates instead.

Cydrius wrote:
...about ragechemists...

Thanks for the heads up Cydrius. I am going to be very stingy in my use of the mutagen so it might not come up that often anyway. If the character goes comatose after each fight, it would only instill in him more why he should not release the beast.

I appreciate you looking out for me, it's very kind of you. Nice to know some of the quirks related to the character that I didn't think of.

Progression:
I was going to go full alchemist. He would probably stick more with his Bombs and save his Mutagen for when he really needs it. Otherwise he is a skill monkey. Might take 1 level in ranger for favored enemy undead/trapfinding. So Skill/Martial.

I'm EST, per the original question.

A wizard that morphs into a ranger? Sounds like an interesting character concept. What kind of spellcraft roll was needed to come up with that spell? (hehe)

Sorry Raldora for the snipe. I was thinking of what would fit the campaign, and a Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde just screamed Carrion Crown to me. (I am playing a bard in another Horror PbP, otherwise I would do that)

Thanks for the List Cydrius!

I submit for your approval Dr. Aconitus/Mr. Hidicus. Inspiration should be pretty clear.

Let me know if anything looks out of place.
