A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 5th- through 8th-level characters.
The Pathfinder Society is invited by Mayor Deyahi to take part in a special traditional ceremony known as the Festival of Fire! This ceremony has been performed for generations and is always an honor for the group of warriors chosen to defend the sacred bonfire. While it's expected that there will be several spirits and undead appearing throughout the evening, what Niishan is unaware of is the fact that an unknown figure has been watching the ceremony for its entirety, waiting for the time that the warriors are weak enough to make their move. With the Pathfinders appearing to fill this role, they see their chance to attack and make Niishan feel their ancient wrath. It's up to the PCs to hold off this villain and the other spirits, ensuring that the ceremony is successful and Niishan remains safe!

It is late in the afternoon in the halls of the Swordmeet Lodge, the Pathfinder Society’s Rahadoumi headquarters, located in the port city of Manaket. Venture-Captain Obo has called you here for an assignment, though when you arrive at the designated meeting room, he is not the only one waiting to greet you.
Shelves of Jiskan puzzle-boxes line the walls of Obo’s office, lending a colorful backdrop to the Venture-Captain’s fruitive conversation with a thin middle-aged woman dressed in white and gold, her pale skin adorned with blue henna. Both glance to the door as it opens and Obo motions everyone inside.
“Close the door.” He waits for his instruction to be followed, then nods to the woman beside him. “You’ve heard of our guest, I’m sure, even if you don’t know her on sight. This is Doctor Kassi Aziril, founder of the school of godless healing, which makes her one of the most important private citizens in this country—so mind your manners. The Society has agreed to help her, and time is of the essence. Doctor?”
See Slide #4
Though she seems tired, Kassi Aziril turns to face the room with the firm stance of a no-nonsense lecturer. “I shall assume no one present has been living under a rock, and we are all thus familiar with the recent ‘Godsrain’ incident. This event presents many challenges for a nation such as Rahadoum, particularly when it applies to those mortals who have been unfortunate enough to manifest divine magic. Under the Laws of Mortality, Rahadoum cannot abide the continued existence of divine power within its borders. These people, however, are not willing channels, they are innocent citizens, and many would reject these ‘rainblessings’ if they could. Some do not care and call for them to be expelled, arrested, or punished for violating our laws no matter whether they embrace the gifts or not. Others seek tolerance and solutions, perhaps a cure. No one can agree. The Council of Elders is at a deadlock, and tensions are rising. I fear that things will become dangerous soon.
“That is why I am here. Pathfinders, six of my medical students are among these ‘rainblessed.’ They are my best and brightest, and I owe it to them to ensure their safety. I believe the only way to do so is to get them out of the country.”
“Which is where we come in,” interjects Obo as he lays a map of the city out on his desk. As he continues, he points to the map as though offering strategy tips in a game of siege. “The Risen Albatross is already waiting at the dock. Once the students are onboard they’ll be safe. The trick will be getting them there without drawing attention. Like Dr. Aziril said, a lot of people around here have it out for the rainblessed, and a contact of the Society’s within the Pure Legion tells us that some among their ranks may be looking to take things into their own hands.
“Your job, as a group, will be to escort the six rainblessed students from their current location—at Dr. Aziril’s research lab—to the docks. Moving a half-dozen untrained civilians through the city’s going to attract attention whether we like it or not, but the more you can keep your head down, the better off you’ll be. Now, leaving the country isn’t illegal, so if you face interference from members of the Pure Legion, you can safely assume they belong to this anti-rainblessed ‘rogue element.’ Defend yourselves and your charges, but it is vitally important that you do not kill the legionnaires. If you can subdue and restrain them for our Legion contact to collect, all the better. Any questions?”
Doc Bloodshanks
|
Doc Bloodshanks is excited to have an opportunity to meet the illustrious Doctor Aziril. He listens to the description of the situation, and shakes his head, "To have that sort of divine power forced upon you ... I can think of little that would be worse. The Pure Legion should be treating these poor victims with compassion, rather than adding to their torments."
He considers the map and asks, "So we get them to The Risen Albatross at the docks. Where do we pick these students up at? And do we have a means to get in touch with this Legion contact if we need support while within the city?"
The real Ino
|
You see a rocky gray and pale, oversized eyes with gray, thin, stringy hair in a chef outfit.
"Oh... something... You are Kissi Aziril! You are my idol! You are so great at showing your non religious beliefs! You are a real rebel in this religious world. I love you!"
She take out a very elaborate cookbook with the words The world of Chef Inonotuusobliquus.
" It just got out of print. It contains a lot of recipes that are healthy, delicious and may have strange temporary effects on you. I would love if you could make to publish a review about it! "
Then, she realized she forgot to present herself.
Oh! I am Inonotuusobliquus, such a manly name for fenale Drathnelar gnome from the darklands. I can make you anything alchemical although, i prefer to do food. Bur i must warn you it can be quite spicy!"
Ino has huge formula book. So don't be afraid to ask for something.

"Leaving your home can be quite traumatic. Doubly so when you might have people after your life. Do you have a recommended extraction route, or should we leave it to chance, based on local conditions as we encounter them?"

Squish looks more like a set of oddly connected burlap sacks filled with Jell-o than a person, but nonetheless they speak with surprising grace despite lack of an obvious mouth and a slight bubbling sound. They carry an acacia staff topped with eye-shaped gemstones that seems to provide Squish's sight.
"Yes... Here's the long story short. Much like Valais Durant I was rescued from Thurl's laboratory. I don't remember who I was before but Valais Durant told me I needed more levity in my life so have decided to be called 'Squish'."

This tall big boned elf, dressed as a merchant but with a breastplate on top, some daggers, a light pick, javelisn and a longspear enters the room the last, his big bright smile and big features make him a very odd sight for an elf, his dark skin betrays him as one of the Eukujae from the northern part of the Mwanghi expanse, alas nothing of his clothes seeem to speak of this rather than Absalom, the city at the center of the world,
Er.. yes. leaving your home against your will due circunstances is not funny, Elfman knows.I had to leave home as well, but the same as your students will, i found a new home and a new people to call family, well not really family, but it is the best we can get on the present circunstances .
Honored to meet you doctor, say, i take that your students didn't took well to need to leave home as that? Hiw are they feeling about leaving? And it would be obvious for the Pure legions that they have abilities as that? What kind of thing sthey are " blessed" with? '

"We do not suggest a particular route, since we don't know what hazards you will encounter. Just be particular and try to avoid conflict."
Obo raises an eyebrow but explains patiently, “When the god Gorum was killed, his blood and ichor rained over all of Golarion, one coming down red, the other silver. Anything or anyone touched by the red Godsrain is infected by some of Gorum’s undying lust for bloodshed, becoming violent and dangerous. Those touched by the silver Godsrain become infused with some of Gorum’s divine essence and manifest divine abilities. Rainblessed is the local name for those in the second category.”
Conferring amongst yourselves, you know that Kassi Aziril is also known as “the mother of medicine,” a title granted in honor of her many important breakthroughs in non-magical healing. She has traveled the world, studied at the Magaambya, and developed techniques so revolutionary they’ve spread around the world, partially due to her own efforts and partially thanks to plagiarism by other scholars.
Kassi isn’t responsible for training every doctor in Rahadoum, but she’s hand-picked a few dozen apprentices and assistants to tutor directly. These students are split into smaller research teams, at least one of which resides in each major Rahadoumi settlement, and Kassi travels between them, both to teach and to help treat local medical emergencies.
Doc Bloodshanks
|
The dromaar was himself likely taught by a student of a student of Aziril's, so views her as something of a "great-grandmother" of medicine personally.
He listens to Obo's explanation, and then strokes his chin. "I confess that I've not been in a position to study the effects directly, nor to read up on the recent literature, but do those affected with the bloodlust from the red Godsrain also manifest any divine abilities ... or is the effect of it purely psychological? If we encountered such a person, they would just have their normal skills and abilities, but be motivated by the bloodlust?"
| TechnoDM A |
Obo replies, "We haven't received any reports of the infection pairing with the infusion. Certainly, if you see such a manifestation, please bring it to our attention."
"Elfman"
|
He ponders on the information given, and with slow voice, he mentions Well, it would be problematic if this acted like a disease, although who knows whne the gods are involved And then ... your students, Are they willing and ready to depart? What should we tell them in the case there is a message from you to them? He asks the doctor.
| TechnoDM A |
Obo gives brings out a letter for their students, proceeds to seal it with wax, and hands it to you. "They are ready to depart. If they have any questions about you, this letter should suffice."
In the first leg of your extraction mission, you must make your way from the Swordmeet Lodge to Kassi’s research lab in the bustling heart of Manaket without drawing too much attention.

As you move through the city a group of irate citizens are holding a political demonstration to demand the Council of Elders vote to arrest and expel the rainblessed from Rahadoum. They’ve gathered a crowd of onlookers, some in support, others to argue against their cause; they’re all blocking the road.
To overcome this obstacle:
Acrobatics to slip through gaps in the crowd,
Athletics to push through by force, or
Society to negotiate a way through the mob without drawing too much attention.

In this case you could use:
Deception to convince him that the guy who actually bumped into him went a different direction
Diplomacy to talk the irate citizen down
or
Intimidation to scare him away.

The passerby continues to scream at you and tell others how you've ruined their day, attracting unwelcome attention to you.
As you continue walking through the market, spy a small patrol of the Pure Legion receiving orders from a commanding officer.
Four Pure Legionnaires stand at ease, the gold brocade on their white leather armor glimmering proudly in the faint light of dusk. Their focus rests entirely on the handsome, tawny aiuvarin man addressing them, the broad red sash across his chest clearly designating him as a commanding officer. He seems to be giving patrol orders for the evening.
Since they seem intent on other things, you continue walking past merchants' carts.

You arrive at Kassi Aziril’s Research Lab. When you knock at the door, the students refuse to open the door unless you identify themselves as help sent by Kassi. Once you are let inside, the de facto leader of the group, Misgenia “Missi” Rohzali makes quick introductions in soft, strained voice.
"I suppose thanks are in order, for being willing to do this. Sorry if we’re not exactly good company right now, it’s been a… hard few days."
