Emma nods, wondering what else they might come up against as they travel along through here in search of information on the carriage. She really hopes that they would be able to find something helpful.
Emma Northwood
Emma nods, "Yeah, we don't need any of that stuff." Well aware of her husband's discomfort, Emma goes to him as they get ready to continue on, and gives him a hug, "Everything will be okay my love, we'll just all stick together, and we'll be out of here as soon as we can." She says, wanting to offer him whatever comfort she could.
Emma Northwood
Emma thinks for a moment as she considers their options, "I wonder if there would be any way for us to put something across the pit that would allow us to get over it. I'm just really interested in seeing what's on the other side. You're correct though in saying that there is no way we can jump across that.....but there has to be something we can do." She thinks out loud as she considers their options, "Maybe we should go back and see if there is anything we can do or make that will help us get across there, or should we just keep going after the carriage. If we wait too long, we might lose it's trail....but if there is information in here somewhere that would help us defeat the carriage...then it might be worth it? What do you guys think we should do?" She asks, not wanting to make the decision for all of them.
Emma Northwood
"I have rope too....if we had a grappling hook and tied it to the rope, after tying a few of them together, and threw it across....as long as it finds something to latch onto....we could get across that way."
Looking up at her love she asks, "Do you have a grappling hook? If not, we can head back to town and see if they have one there we can use.
Aiden Northwood
"I do, and that could work...it's just a matter of there being something secure enough to grab a hold of, that'll allow the rope to support weight. Once we get one person across, tying it off around something more secure would probably work." Aiden says after staring at the gap for a bit.
Emma Northwood
Emma thinks for a moment, "What if I cast a light spell on the grappling hook? Would that help us see what's on the other side a little better? I'm just trying to think of ways to make this a little easier and safer."
Emma Northwood
Emma nods, and after they have two of the lengths of rope securely tied together with multiple knots, and as soon as Aiden has the grappling hook securely attached to the rope, Emma waits for him to hand it to her.
Holding onto the grappling hook she says, "Sarenrae, I pray you illuminate our path." As she speaks, a light moves from her into the grappling hook. With her spell cast, she hands the grappling hook back to Aiden, "I think you should be the one to toss it across." She says, thinking that he would have an easier time getting it across the chasm.
Cast light on the grappling hook, so hopefully when it goes across the chasm, we can see something on the other side to secure the hook to. That was my idea behind it at any rate.
Emma Northwood
You know when I was talking about throwing the rope across with the grappling hook on one end, that part of the rope would still be held onto. You know, like holding part of it in one hand, while swinging around the end with the grappling hook on it until you have enough velocity to get it across. Does that make sense? I kinda picture it being a little like throwing a lasso.
Aiden Northwood
coiling the rope loosely in onbe hand, Aiden swings the grappling hook around, building momentum before hurling it across the chasm.
Ranged attack roll/ shaken: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 2 = 16
Emma Northwood
"Good job honey, I knew you could do it. Now we just have to find something sturdy to attach it to on this side." Emma says, as she starts to look for something that they could tie the other end around.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Aiden Northwood
Aiden looks around, seeking the most secure location to tie or anchor the rope's other end, to create a taut line across the gap.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Emma Northwood
Okay, we're gonna need some help looking for something to secure this rope to, cuz for whatever reason....we just ain't finding it.
Emma looks over at Rosie and Clyde, "Hey, could you two help us look for something to secure this rope to? I need to figure out how we're gonna get Shadow across with us. I don't want to leave him over here by himself, if there's a way we can take him with us."
Emma Northwood
Emma thinks for a while before looking back up at the others, "Before we start crossing, I think we should come up with a way to make it a little safer. What if Clyde goes across first, but we tie another rope to him, and hold onto it on this side, so if something happens we can haul him back up? Kind of like a safety harness? Then, once Clyde is across, we'll have someone on the other side to help others cross. I don't know, does any of that make sense? Once Clyde is across safely, he can untie the extra rope from him, and pull it back over to this side, and the next person can go. I think it should be Clyde, Rosie, you love and Shadow, and then I'll go last. What do you guys think? Does anyone have any other ideas?"
Emma Northwood
Emma looks over at Clyde, "Are you okay going across first? If we can fashion a kind of harness with the extra rope, and hold onto you on this side, it should make it a little safer going across." She asks, while trying to explain easier how to cross the gap more safely.
Emma Northwood
Taking a moment to think about how practical her idea of a harness is, considering none of them ever had to make one before, Emma adds, "Of course, if that seems too difficult and time consuming, we could always just take our time and go super slow across so there's less chance of slipping. What do you guys think the best way to go about it would be?"
Basically just suggesting the whole each of us taking 20 to get across the chasm to avoid any possible mishaps.
Aiden Northwood
" It might be a good idea for the lighter of us to go across first, both to get a better idea of how secure the rope is, and the fact that it'll be easier pulling you up if there's a slip. Through the idea of tying a second line to each person as they climb across id definitely a good idea." Aiden says after considering the situation.
Emma Northwood
"You have so many amazing talents that we never even knew about. Okay, I'll come across next and help you look for another ring. Maybe we can loop the rope through both of them and make it like a pulley system to make it easier on the guys. Just let me show Aiden how to secure Shadow to himself real quick."
Going back to her husband she says, "I'm gonna go across next so I won't be here to help you secure Shadow to you, so let me show you so that Clyde can help you after I go across."
She basically shows him how to utilize his backpack like a harness, and use it and some rope to secure Shadow to himself, "If we find another ring on the other side, this will go so much easier. I love you and I promise to be careful. I'm pretty sure I'll be okay if I take my time going across."
Emma gives him a brief hug before heading over to the rope and lowers herself onto it. Gripping the rope with her hands, she hooks her legs over the rope and crosses them to help her scoot across the chasm. It takes her a while, but she safely makes it over to the other side with Rosie.
I'm taking 20 on this to be safe, so it's a 21 altogether since I have a +1 to acrobatics.
Emma Northwood
Okay, so basically you're gonna secure the rope to yourself first, then secure Shadow to your front and wear the backpack against your front, making sure everything is secure with the rope. Using the backpack in the front will help Shadow fit more snuggly against you, and make him feel safer, so he doesn't writhe against you as you're trying to cross. Does that make sense?
Emma Northwood
Emma holds up her hands, "Hold on love, I found another ring! Don't come across until I get it tied off really good. Let Clyde help you secure Shadow around you while I get this tied off."
Emma takes the rope off of the grappling hook, and sets the hook aside before securing the rope through the ring.
After a few minutes of making sure the line is absolutely secure, Emma waves to the guys, "Okay, we're good to go whenever you are. Just take your time and be careful."
Emma Northwood
Emma watches from the other side as Clyde helps secure her beloved and Shadow with the rope, offering advice as to how to properly secure the rope around them while not cutting off anyone's circulation. She wanted to make sure that they were as safe as possible before attempting to cross.
Even with having Shadow strapped to your front, I'm pretty sure if you do the arm and leg crawl, and take 20 to do it, that you'll be able to get across safely.
Emma Northwood
Once Aiden and Shadow make it safely across, Emma helps undo all the rope that was holding the two together. Once Shadow is free, she hugs both of them in turn.
"Let me just say how much I do not enjoy being underground. Okay Clyde, you got this. Just take your time and everything will be alright." She says, offering moral support as they wait for Clyde to make it across.
