Holy / Unholy Oil

Rules Questions

Is there a Rule set in place to handle someone using the spells Defile water/bless water on Oils for lamps? And if so are there rules for said lamps to ward off creatures as a Protection against spells?

Bless water doesn't affect oil in lamps....

That said, there's lots of anti-evil gear, some of which includes lamps. For example, a Celestial Lamp.

Well The player in question is an Antipaladin So I was wondering if there was a Spell or rule set in place to Sanctify or defile oil and use it in lanterns as a weak protection against spell.

I mean, it wouldn't be the same as Unholy "Oil". Why would you think it would provide protection against spells, and what kind of spells do you expect it to provide protection against?

Bless water and defile water just make holy and unholy water, which only cause damage and don't have any affect for protections against spells.

It sounds like you're basically asking for an item that causes a magic circle against good.

I would just create magical lamp oil that when burned causes the affect of magic circle against good, and last for some amount of time.

Interesting idea, i guess Oil of Protection from good (same as potion) that is burned in the lamp instead of being applied to a body...

Any anti-evil weapon or gear option is very easily tweaked to function against another alignment subtype. Just ask your GM. The linked Celestial Lamp, above, could easily be altered to take Unholy Water and add bonuses against good outsiders.

Regarding Bless (and Curse Water). The names are kinda misleading, as they imply you are just "blessing" the water. You are transforming one substance (water mixed with powdered silver) into another substance (holy water). The spell doesn't work on oil just because Oil isn't water.

@Claxon

Well the reason I was asking for a protection against like effect or asking if there was one was because something about 6 hours of having a damaging light shoot out of a Lanturn just sounds off to me

@Pax Miles

Looked at the celestial lamp and I think ill just go with that thanks for the link. Just the idea popped in my head helping a player with an antipaladin and was like hmmm I wonder.

@all

Thanks for the replies :D
