Zharis |

Zharis follows Jin, making sure not to brush against any of the shelves... unless Hani is able to brace them, and then she will help him search.

Reflex save DC 17: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21
Jin holds the deadly shelf and moves out from under it, his arms and back stinging from the effort.

GM Jhaeman |

Jin's quick-thinking and impressive upper-arm strength keep him from getting crushed by the trapped shelf!
Thanks for your patience, everyone, I'm back (having learned through song about the six wives of Henry VIII!). Anything else you'd like to do in this room, or would you like to continue on the drawn route?

Tulgram Coldforge |

Tulgram will look into the laboratory.

GM Jhaeman |

Tulgram opens the door marked "Lab" to reveal a laboratory in disarray: several overturned tables, pools of steaming liquids, piles of jumbled pills, and shards of shattered glass cover the floor.
Several office doors on the east wall each bear small nameplates, while the west wall contains a heavy door near a metal-latticed window that looks into a small waiting room.
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

Tulgram Coldforge |

Tulgram closes the door. Everything is broken there, but there is also a security camera turned on. Eh... Okay, let's move on.

Tulgram Coldforge |

I'm sorry, I probably didn't understand that.
There's a camera guys. Active. I'm not sure what that means to us. If there are no engineers among us who can turn it off at a distance or mystics who can create an illusion... or maybe someone has a smoke grenade? Then just go and come what may.

Zharis |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Cameras are bad? thinks Zharis quizzically, and then she realizes that Tulgram is talking about one of those cheap security cameras that don't even have good resolution and never, ever show your good side.
Uh, why not just shoot it?

Hani Makoa |

Hani gives the camera a quick look-see and considers whether he can disable it.
Or better yet, hack it.
engineering: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
computers: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

GM Jhaeman |

As the group moves into the lab to decide how to handle the security camera, from the southeast alcove a massive, brassy-skinned eel-like creature tattooed with strange symbols rushes forth!
We will now go to a Surprise Round. I've placed a picture of this creature on the left side of the map.
It's a wonder the old thing still works!
Perception (Jin): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Perception (Tulgram): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Perception (Zharis): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Perception (Hani): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Perception (Xylian): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

GM Jhaeman |

The brassy creature slithers forth from around the corner, its ominous gaze striking fear in all but the most stout-hearted!
Unfortunately, no one made the Perception DC to act in the Surprise Round. The creature has done a move action to move its speed in the Surprise Round.
We will now move on to regular Initiative.

GM Jhaeman |

INITIATIVE (ROUND 1)
Hani (save needed)
Jin (save needed
Creature
Zharis (save needed)
Xylian (save needed)
Tulgram (save needed)
Bold may go!
At the beginning of each of your turns, the ominous gaze of the creature threatens to fill you with nightmarish visions. You must
make a DC 16 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1 round and then staggered for 1 round.
Due to the debris, every square in the lab is treated as difficult terrain.
If you wish to try to ID the creature, it's a Life Sciences check.
Initiative (Tulgram): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Initiative (Hani): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Initiative (Xylian): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Initiative (Jin): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Zharis |

Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Culture (Instead of Life Science): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Diplomatic Nuance allows me to use my Culture skill in place of Life Science checks to identify humanoids and monstrous humanoids.
Uh, but wow, that is a bad roll either way. Guess she doesn't know anything about eels.
Zharis saw the weird snake-sneetch hybrid moving forward with death on its mind, so she decided to shoot it. Moving out from behind her friends while drawing, she aimed her Resonant Dirge pistol at it and pulled the trigger, making sure that she looked determined for the camera.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Damage (Sonic): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Hani Makoa |

fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Standing where he is, Hani pulls out his arc pistol and begins firing away at this creature.
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Zharis |

Whoops, sorry.

GM Jhaeman |

Jin's hardened warrior mindset allows him to resist the nightmarish visions, and he moves into position for battle!
Botting Jin. Succeeds on the save vs paralyzing gaze. I'm going to assume he does two guarded steps to get into melee attack range (w/ lunge) for next round without provoking an AoO this round..
Jin's Fort save vs gaze: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

GM Jhaeman |

The eel-like creature's gaping maw darts forward to devour Jin, but gets caught up on a piece of debris and is shunted aside!
A second later, Zharis looks fantastic for the cameras, and her missed shot can always be changed to a hit in post-production.
Bad guy rolled a nat 1, which I always like to see!
Zharis' attack missed.

Fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
move action - take 20 to ID creature. Life Science 37 total. I will describe the standard action from what I learn. Of course, I am interested in resistances, DRs, immunities... Btw does this Fort save is a mind-affecting effect?

GM Jhaeman |

Tulgram studies the dangerous creature intently!

Xylian Xuuvats |

Sorry I've been abscent. I've had the absolute worst cold ever for the last week. Free Action to use Scrappy, Move Action to Target Slug, Standard Action to Overcharge and shoot.

GM Jhaeman |

Xylian blasts away with his ice carbine, leaving a dent in the wall!
Xylian's attack missed.
Tulgram, you're still up for your standard action.

Tulgram Coldforge |

Arrgh! Keep in mind, this monster can bite at 15 feet! - Tulgram growls, carefully stepping up to the creature.
Thanks, GM Jhaeman

Jin Goei |

Jin activates his frenzied fighting and attacks the massive cockroach:
Aurora Storm Doshko vs. EAC: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Electricity damage: 2d8 + 13 + 3 ⇒ (7, 3) + 13 + 3 = 26
Frenzy rounds: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Hani Makoa |

Hani keeps pulling the trigger on his arc pistol.
to hit vs. EAC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
damage, E: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

GM Jhaeman |

Hani's blast slides off the creature's brassy scales and scorches some of the debris on the ground! But the tattoeed predator has no mind for Hani, as it's out for blood against the one that hurt it: Jin!
Hani's attack missed.
The creature attacks Jin and hits, inflicting 21 P.
Bite vs Jin KAC: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
damage (piercing): 3d4 + 12 ⇒ (4, 2, 3) + 12 = 21

Zharis |

Pulling out her semi-auto as well, since that can damage things and not just organics, Zharis turns around and shoots the nasty surveillance camera behind her. Assuming that is what the yellow circles are, right?
No grainy footage of the back of her head was going to get out in public, especially if it contradicted her own edited footage.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Tulgram Coldforge |

Merciful Capture Pole: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 301d8 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 (piercing vs KAC; non-lethal dmg)
Tulgram forcefully thrusts his battle pole into the creature. At the moment of contact, the poison from the mushroom spores begins to flow through the veins of the space eel, reducing its reflexes and softening the hard layers of skin.
Basic Inhibitor: The target takes a –2 penalty to AC.
Toxic Skin (Ex): You have handled so many toxins that they’ve accumulated in your skin. Any creature that hits you with a natural attack must succeed at a Fortitude save or gain the sickened condition for 1 minute. Any creature that swallows you whole must succeed at a Fortitude save or gain the nauseated condition for 1 round; the creature automatically vomits you back out at the start of its next turn. (This vomiting takes no action.) When expelled, you land prone adjacent to the creature in a square of the creature’s choosing. Once a creature has been affected by your toxic skin, it can’t be affected by it again for 24 hours, although it could be affected by another biohacker’s toxic skin.

Thanks to Tulgram's fine work, Xylian is able to catch the sluggy boy with a blast of ice.
Ice Carbine vs KAC (Combat Tracking; Ignores up to 4 AC from cover): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

The effect of an inhibitor lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + your key ability score modifier (minimum 1 round) unless it states otherwise.
So 9 rounds )

Jin Goei |

Jin keeps trying to take down the monster:
Aurora Storm Doshko vs. EAC: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Electricity damage: 2d8 + 13 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 13 + 3 = 24

Hani Makoa |

Hani continues to blast the creature with his arc pistol, being careful to stay out of its way considering his current fragile state.
to hit, vs. EAC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
damage, E: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

GM Jhaeman |

Green blood splatters everywhere as Jin lands another devastating hit on the monster, but Hani's arc pistol can't penetrate its scaly skin.
The predator, locked in a battle to the death, tries to tear Jin's head off!
Jin hit and did good damage, but Hani's attack missed.
The attack against Jin hits and does 22 P. (Jin, it looks like your temp HP from Frenzied Fighting will keep you standing for now?)
Bite vs Jin KAC: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35
damage (piercing): 3d4 + 12 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) + 12 = 22

Zharis |

Zharis shoots at the thing again.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Damage (Sonic): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Then she drops her semiauto back in the holster and takes a spell gem of Stabilize from her bandolier, just in case Jin goes down and she needs to save him.

Tulgram Coldforge |

Argggh, damn thing, this is my favorite bloody hobgoblin! For Jin! Aah!!
Merciful Capture Pole: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 11 - 4 = 161d8 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 (piercing vs KAC; non-lethal dmg)
Merciful Capture Pole: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 4 = 271d8 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 (piercing vs KAC; non-lethal dmg) - lol, three 1 on d8 in a row!
CRIT DMG: 1d8 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
The enraged duergar misses for the first time, but this inflames him even more and the second blow hits the open mouth of the eel, damaging the poorly protected throat and tongue!
35 dmg total if first missed; no crit effect now

GM Jhaeman |

Although Zharis' small arms fire can't seem to pierce the creature's brassy scales, Tulgram's capture pole catches the mountain eel just behind the jaws for a painful squeeze!
Zharis missed, and Tulgram's first attack missed (even with the inhibitor). But the crit did good damage, and this creature is really hurting now.
Xylian is up.

Xylian Xuuvats |

Xylian tries to finish of the sluggy before it can eat Jin.
Ice Carbine vs KAC (Combat Tracking; Ignores up to 4 AC from cover): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Jin tries to land a couple of good hits before he's taken out - in his frenzy, his tusks grow huge and his eyes glow a fiery red:
Aurora Storm Doshko vs. EAC: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 12 - 4 = 23
Electricity damage: 2d8 + 13 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 13 + 3 = 18
Aurora Storm Doshko vs. EAC: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 12 - 4 = 25
Electricity damage: 2d8 + 13 + 3 ⇒ (7, 7) + 13 + 3 = 30
