Cast a Spell, Protector Tree

Protector Tree:
A Medium tree suddenly grows in an unoccupied square within range. The tree has AC 10 and 10 Hit Points. Whenever an ally adjacent to the tree is hit by a Strike, the tree interposes its branches and takes the damage first. Any additional damage beyond what it takes to reduce the tree to 0 Hit Points is dealt to the original target. The tree isn't large enough to impede movement through its square.

If the tree is in soil and survives to the end of the spell's duration, it remains as an ordinary, non-magical tree, and continues to grow and thrive. The GM might determine that the tree disappears immediately in certain inhospitable situations.

"Hope" tries their attacks against the Plant Boss, but between all it's writhing tendrils cannot land a solid blow.

The Iruxi plant zombie does not seem entirely zombified and is the only creature you've found here that appears to be Iruxi. You have no way to tell if it's the scout you're supposed to be rescuing, but it's a good guess.

Shanti's bolt does strike through and they manage to stabilize the Iruxi!
Any healing will stabilize them, too many plants in the brain to bet up right now though.

Tandang protects Hope with a friendly tree while Krozuk suddenly charges it and works on cutting it down to size with his greataxe.

Blak Jak moves into melee and shoots point blank.

Spoiler:

After about 10 minutes Kazuuk rejoins you. "The large ones will leave us alone, I see you did well. Better than Igix, although he seems still alive. Come help me make a stretcher and we'll take him back to camp.

---

With that you can easily make it back to camp.

As just a quick aside on the scenario since everybody has played it before. I know it's 2 rounds of checks to impress the Iruxi. I've found the pacing works a lot better to do one set of checks on the way there and the other on the way back, and frequently, like in this case enough successes were garnered, that combined with the rescue we don't even need to do the second set.

Chief Thakik once again sits atop her bone throne, but now the hint of a smile tugs at the corners of her mouth. [b]“Kazuuk tells us you were quite impressive! This is good to hear. I am told by our healers that Igix is expected to recover within a few days. I’m certain the Tskikha and the Pathfinder Society have a bright future ahead."

After the meeting with the chief Kazuuk takes you aside and gives you an elixir of Darkvision(lesser). "You have honored me with your presence and your deed, let me gift you this elixir, crafted by my own hand. May it let you see in darkness."

---

Back at the Pathinder camp Fola Barun congratulates you on a job well done. "I understand Gorm, Eando and Calisro have missions for you as well. Do you wish to wait until tomorrow to take on your next mission or should I make introductions for you now?"

The next morning Floa Barun introduces you to to Eando Kline. Not only does she remember your names but she gets various tricky bits of inflection right as well.

The interior of Eando's tent is brightly lit and sparsely decorated. A fully armed and armored human man stands at a table opposite the entrance, a large wooden crate in front of him. After Fola Barun's introduction he delicately lifts what appears to be an ivory idol and places it within the crate, packs it with straw, then attaches the lid.

Fola Barun makes her egress.

“When it comes down to it, the Pathfinder Society has a loose set of agreements about how to behave. In the past, leadership was unwilling to take the necessary steps to keep dangerous items and information locked safely away. That’s where my role comes in. You all know about the Society’s motto: ‘Explore. Report. Cooperate.’ The Vigilant Seal has its own motto: ‘Protect. Contain. Destroy.’ The last thing we need is for a horde of fiends to be unleashed because someone jostled the wrong statue,” he says, and nods meaningfully toward the just-closed crate.

“So today I have an important job for you. Other Pathfinder scouts recently cleaned the monsters out of a nearby Azlanti temple dedicated to the vampiric demon lord Zura. They found an odd bit of treasure that had a dangerous aura about it. When they tried to seal it away in a protective box, it simply teleported itself back to the center of the temple. Rather than continuing to experiment with the item, they wisely reported their findings to me. After a bit of research into similar items, I believe that removing the item from the temple will require carrying it out by hand."

“Your job is to go to the ruin, retrieve this item, and return it to me so I can decide what to do with it next. The path is clear, and I have a map with the item’s location marked. Questions?”

Sorry for the delay, Friday and Saturday both ended up being a really busy days around here.

Following Eando's instructions are easy enough. Along the way there are some signs of the previous Pathfinders’ mission here: the bodies of several destroyed skeletons and zombies, disturbed cobwebs and rubble,
and occasional splashes of blood on the walls. taking you to the Heart of the temple where

Arriving at the Heard of the Temple you find a broad stone stairway descends into darkness to the west out of this low ceilinged room. To the south is an archway you just passed though carved with a rose motif.

The chamber decorated with a hooded figure bearing a scythe, rendered as a protector—or warning—of what lies beyond. A single pedestal stands next to the northern wall.

There are no traps but the amulet is magical.

Blak Jak leaps into the fray, Striding towards yellow dash. free action in his first round

He the steps forward, and slashes at the zombie with his war razor, not wanting to taste rotting flesh with a beak strike.
beak (finesse): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Blak Jak slices successfully with the war razor.
fixed war razor damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Cutting an outsized chunk out. The pistol shot is much less effective unfortunately.

Krozuk's green corpse shambles mindlessly past him, clearly drawn towards the relic as it seeminly grows in stature as it gets close to "Hope" and slams with a meaty fist.

slam vs Hope FF: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 1 = 22

Hope looks back and forth in a panic, quickly composes himself and decides to try continue trying to cut down the Orange corpse after studying it this time around. Realizing the cuts from the axe seem especially damaging he changes up his grip on the knife.

Also Slashing this time: 1d4 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 1 = 7

And realizing that the undead are likely trying to get at him for the amulet around his neck, he steps back to get a little bit of cover behind Tandang. "Sorry, I don't usually like to use others as a shield but I'd prefer not to let these monsters get a hold of this item. Who knows what benefits they can gain from them?"

It takes both attacks from "Hope" but she does finish off the orange corpse before hetting out of trouble.

Misses the enfeeble on the rerolled second attack but is a hit either way, feel free to move move your mini when convenient.

Tandang is not surprised to find his club flare with primal power as it strikes the shambling corpse.

-1 hit/damage from enfeeble but still enough for a solid hit.

Are these immune to incapacitation effects?

Aspenthar

Stunning fist should work normally, didn't know you had it until a peaked now because you asked about incapacitation effects though.

The positive damage destroys the myserious unknown shambling corpse, with that we'll likely never know what type of creature they truly were.

Out of Combat

Quiet returns to the dungeon. Clearly the relic is dangerous but things seem safe enough to at least catch your breath (and possibly longer if needed) before pressing on towards the the Pathfinder encampment and the safety of the surface.

Coming suddenly out of his larger-than-life anger, Krozuk breathes heavily for a few moments. When he collects his wits he once more looks at Hope. "You okay? Ready to continue this trial of strength? Need a healing potion?"

I think I have one as well but will take Krozuk's as a training gift.

Hope readjusts the amulet on his person and slowly stumbles over to Krozuk. He takes the bottle from Krozuk's hand and pours the potion over his root like limbs, absorbing in the potion's magic.

"Well, I can't say I'm the best shape, but I will continue to press onward. I cannot allow an artifact of a vampiric god to fall into the hands of monsters. No knight would let that happen, therefore neither can I. Let us continue."

He will, however, try to stay near the back of the group though.

Anybody else? or are we pushing forward after what I think is about 20 minutes?
