"Suffering psychopomps," Featherwit groans as Elfino revives her. "That'll teach me to insult family, no matter how remotely distant." She grabs her ichor-covered rapier and rolls to her feet with gritted teeth.
Quickly taking stock of the situation, she wisely stays put where she is, but pulls out a juggling pin and begins flipping it end over end in her off hand as she watches her allies surround the remaining voidworm.

After the battle, Tels tries to hand you some equipment while he looks at you in the mirror, and thanks to the chaotic influence of the voidworms, it works! You receive a low-grade cold iron short sword.
After the battle is over, the students decide to report back to the main hall to share the techniques with their classmates and report on the
condition of the chaperones.
Professor Felicity Featherwit
|
Featherwit sighs in relief when the last protean goes down, and takes a moment to carefully clean her rapier before putting her weapons away and pulling out a potion to drink. "I haven't been in this much pain since a dinosaur nearly bit me in two last spring."
Lesser Healing Potion: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 3) + 5 = 15
Now at full HP, so will lose wounded 1 after 10 minutes' rest.
"Aaah, that's better. If and when we finally get home from this mission, I am getting thoroughly, stinking drunk to thank Cayden that I survived it," she promises herself as she follows the children back to the main hall. She climbs onto a couch to rest while she listens to their conversation.
Elfino
|
Assuming that we have some 50 minutes of rest here, then Elfino can heal everyone up without having to burn any potions.
Elfino pulls out his medical supplies and gets to work patching everyone up. "I tink dat's all de class assignments completed, but we still 'ave ta figure out de whole failsafe thin'. We'll need ta find de foci n Armeline’s chamber before we can restore reality. Dere seems ta be plenty of de lodge left ta search, so de sooner we get ta it de betta."
Plenty of white blanks left on the map and given the stairs I see, there's probably a second floor as well. Anyone have a preference for where we begin? Probably best if we don't split up, so how about we start with the room south of A3 (A2 presumably) and work our way clockwise?
Jyllian Kero
|
Jyllian can help a little with healing. Lay on Hands every 10 minutes for 6 HP.
Jyllian grumbles to herself as yet another enemy goes down before she can do anything about it. She helps with patching up the tag ends of injuries and nods at Elfino. "The sooner, the better. I'm over this."
Assuming everyone comes here Jyllian shoves open the door to A2 with intent.
Professor Felicity Featherwit
|
I'm doubting we'll have the luxury of an hour or so before more plot happens. Featherwit doesn't want to wait more than the 10 minutes she needs to shake off wounded before exploring again.
| cmlobue |
It's up to you how you want to heal. There are no obvious time pressures, but the students may get bored. Once you decide to move on...
Jyllian finds that shoving herself against the door does not open it, but she passes through with the same feeling of resistance as before.
Mrs. Crinkle
|
Mrs. Crinkle only lost temp HP, so she doesn't need any healing.
Featherwit sighs in relief when the last protean goes down, and takes a moment to carefully clean her rapier before putting her weapons away and pulling out a potion to drink. "I haven't been in this much pain since a dinosaur nearly bit me in two last spring."
"Ooo! Now that's a story I want to hear!" Mrs. Crinkle declares as she shrinks back to her normal form and begins dressing herself again. "Over drinks, of course. All stories are better with booze. --Ooops! Hope the kiddies couldn't read my lips for that one! Heehee!"
"Aaah, that's better. If and when we finally get home from this mission, I am getting thoroughly, stinking drunk to thank Cayden that I survived it," she promises herself as she follows the children back to the main hall.
"Ooo, I knew I'd like you! You know how to have a good time. First round's on me! Heehee!"
When Jyllian strides through the next door, Mrs. Crinkle bustles along after her.
Professor Bun Bun, Q. T. E.

Professor Bun Bun gathers up his missing stuffing and stuffs it back into his body. He pulls out a healer's kit and seals the wound.
medicine-treat wounds: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
healing: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 3) = 11
As the others begin to leave he pipes up. "Hey! Wait for me!"
Ulrich Makaisson
|
Ulrich looks surprised at his weapons "We find a surprising amount of enemies on this side of the mirror."
He waits for others to get healed and he joins the search party
"I think your plan Elfino is a good one."
Professor Felicity Featherwit
|
"Deal," Featherwit tells Mrs. Crinkle, with a grin. "I can help us find the good stuff."
Once she's had a few minutes to recover from her near-death experience, the ganzi follows Jyllian and Elfino to help search the rest of the lodge.
| cmlobue |
The Pathfinders heal up and shove themselves through the door into the southwestern room.
Like the rest of the building, the conference room is deserted. Sheets of notes on the table detail efforts by the staff at the Woodsedge Lodge to stabilize the Maze of the Open Road after recent incidents during which the Maze unexpectedly connected to strange destinations.
On the table, among a pile of various records of Lodge business, you find a note in Venture-Captain Jirneau's handwriting.

Jyllian Kero
|
Jyllian leans over the table to read the note. "Hey, here are the foci they were talking about! Pitcher of water, steel shield, lodestone. Lodestone is in her quarters. I love a woman who plans."
She reaches over her shoulder and grabs the as yet unused shield on her back. "I got the shield. We can probably get the water in the kitchen. Just need to find her quarters and we can get out of this ridiculous whereverweare."
Professor Felicity Featherwit
|
"Well, so much for my theory about randomly appearing objects," Featherwit replies with a shrug--which she immediately regrets, given her very recently healed wounds.
"I'll check the kitchen for a pitcher." She's pretty sure the danger in that room is past, so only hesitates for a heartbeast before stepping through the door that leads there.
Elfino
|
Elfino also examines the note over Jyllian's shoulder. "Dere is sum question as ta whether we can manipulate de foci ourselves or whether we will need ta recruit de students ta 'elp us."
We seem to be in a phase that makes it difficult to directly affect objects in the main phase in which the students find themselves. Can we in fact manipulate a shield, jug of water and deal with the lodestone without their help?
"If our personal shields dunna do de trick, den we can prolly pick one up at de battleground. I presume de kitchen contains a jug of water. Dat leaves de lodestone ta find, which means findin' de Venture-Captain's quarters. I spect it's upstairs. Let's finish up our search of de downstairs n den see whut awaits us upstairs."
How about we hit the little room north of the kitchen next, followed by A5, A6 and the restricted section of the library?
Mrs. Crinkle
|
Jyllian leans over the table to read the note. "Hey, here are the foci they were talking about! Pitcher of water, steel shield, lodestone. Lodestone is in her quarters. I love a woman who plans."
"Well, if she was really good at planning, she'd keep all three things together in an easy to access place, along with a second set of instructions. Though I suppose locked doors won't make much difference to us until this is fixed. Heehee!"
I second Elfino's suggestion for order of operations.
| cmlobue |
The little room north of the kitchen is a pantry. There are a water barrel and pitcher among the items stored here, neither of which you can interact with.
Jyllian Kero

"Hmmm, well, that gets complicated then. Did anyone see another shield in the rooms? Can we get the kids to get some water? Or should we find everything before trying to herd the kids?"
Professor Bun Bun, Q. T. E.
|
The little room north of the kitchen is a pantry. There are a water barrel and pitcher among the items stored here, neither of which you can interact with.
Professor Bun Bun makes several attempts to lift the pitcher, even going so far as to pretend to give up and turn to walk away before suddenly turning back and pouncing on it as if to catch it by surprise. Once it is clear that any attempt will fail he turns to the group.
"It theemth ath though we will need to enlitht the aththithtanthe of the thtudentth in order to perform thith ritual."

"Hmmm, well, that gets complicated then. Did anyone see another shield in the rooms? Can we get the kids to get some water? Or should we find everything before trying to herd the kids?"
"Wathn't there a shield in the armory? I thought I thaw one." He shrugs. "Admittedly I wath a little woothy from thtuffing lothth tho I could eathily be mithtaken."
| cmlobue |
There was indeed a shield in the armory, so you know (mostly) where the items you need are. Now it's just a matter of getting them.
Mrs. Crinkle
|
Blithely, Mrs. Crinkle replies: "Oh, let's just get all the kiddies into the armory and play charades in the mirror to show them what we need to do. Easy peasy! Heehee! Come on, everybody! Let's go herd kiddies!" And with that, she bustles off to check the entry hall to see who's in there.
Jyllian Kero
|
Jyllian tromps slowly after Mrs. Crinkle. "Let's get this over with."
| cmlobue |
To save a bunch of rolls, I will assume that you eventually convey to the children that they need a shield from the armory and a pitcher of water from the pantry. They obtain these items for you and return to the main hall.
The Pathfinders now must figure out how - and where - to obtain the lodestone.
Professor Felicity Featherwit
|
"Right, let's find that lodestone," Featherwit says once the children have collected the other foci. "And let's stick together, in case of more trouble. Lead on, Elfino."
Away from my desktop ATM. Please move me into the hall next to Elfino, who had a plan for the order of searching.
Elfino
|
Elfino is satisfied that they have the children ready to go with two of the foci. "Right den! Let's go find Armeline’s chamber n de lodestone. We'll call de children ta us when we've done so n dey can trigger de failsafe."
At her request, I've moved Felicity to where Elfino is looking to get into room A5.
Jyllian Kero
|
Jyllian continues to follow everyone as they figure out what we're doing.
Mrs. Crinkle
|
"No you kiddies behave yourselves well enough that no one gets seriously hurt while we're gone. Buh-byyyeee!" Mrs. Crinkle might as well be talking to the Pathfinders for all the good her warning does for the students. Giggling at her own humor, she bustles back into the corridor to catch up with Elfino and the rest of the group.
| cmlobue |
The Pathfinders push themselves through the door to the north.
This quiet courtyard is open to the sky above. A cobblestone pathway winds its way between carefully tended topiaries and past a burbling fountain.
Jyllian Kero
|
"I don't think this is her chamber," Jyllian says, the corner of her mouth twitching a little. She looks around the courtyard as she marches over to the other door.

He moves onto the next set of doors with Jyllian and looks them over.

"I agree. Every venture captain I've ever met preferred to sleep indoors when at home. Even the Gozrans," Featherwit jokes, as she follows along right behind Jyllian and Elfino.
Just in case... Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
| cmlobue |
There is absolutely nothing odd about the courtyard. At least, nothing that isn't true about the rest of the lodge.
Weapon racks and suits of armor on display stands line the walls of this well-stocked armory. Several weapons are laid out on the table, along with whetstones and oil clothes. The items are disordered, as if people were using them and disappeared suddenly. There are other shields here, in case something happens to the one you have.
So, try the stairs, or into the restricted section?
