Merida Bowie

At the intersection (see map) Merida waits for the others to follow Corey and Bullwhip.
"Come on, guys! We don't have all day!"
She checks the southern corridor for trouble.

Bullwhip
|
Corey meets up with Bullwhip at the edge of the large chamber.
"Alright. Let's pick one of these southern halls and check them out."
"Roi. We can split up an' root for clues again." agrees the dwarf. "Cos that's waaat Oi wus doin' while yer an' de kip were bludgeonin' de lil' baby seals back at de Cod Bowl."
Then he stops and thinks for a moment. "'tis funny. Oi don't see any bowlin' alleys dare."
He heads down the central hall slowly (eating thin slices of grease-fried potatoes from their noisy bag) stopping before the cell doors and looking within before proceeding down to the intersection and looking around the corner.

Sylvester Solstar
|
Sylvester waves and smiles to Red and Seebonicck who have seemed to have fallen behind.
"Keep together."
"Bullwhip, Corey please open a door."
| DM Carbide |
All of the doorways that the party has found after the basilisk room have been covered by black curtain cloth with a white seven-pointed star emblem on it. Merida neither sees nor hears anything out of the ordinary, and Bullwhip is likewise unaware of anything moving or making noise in his vicinity (except for himself, of course).
Corenthiir
|
Corey follows Bullwhip down the hall. He cautiously and quietly peeks behind the curtain leading into the square chamber.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
| DM Carbide |
The chamber is empty of people, and holds several barrels with labels suggesting they contain food--flour, salt pork, and dried fruit.
Corenthiir
|
"Hey! Look, everyone. A storage room."
Corey calls out quietly to his companions.
"It's their food supply. We're supposed to sabotage the place, right? Let's pop open a few of these barrels to let the food spoil. I hate it when I find bugs in my baking flour. Haha!"
| DM Carbide |
Checking the curtain on the other side of the narrow hall from the storeroom reveals another storeroom, this one holding some furniture along with more food.
Bullwhip spies out the rest of the corridor circumnavigating the second storeroom.
Merida Bowie
|
Stealth - ACP: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 1 = 7
Getting curious, Merida makes three (not so) quiet steps down the hallway right past the doorway and peaks diagonally behind the curtains.
Sylvester Solstar
|
Sylvester winks at Corey.
"I can help you out there."
Sylvester uses his fey abilities (Prestidigitation) to soil the food in the containers.
Prestidigitation is like a 0 level equivalent of the Wish spell. :)
Corenthiir

"Might as well replenish our ration packs while we're at it."
Corey stuffs a few pounds of edibles into his pack.
"I hope I can find some bread and cheese to go with this ham. Let me know if you find any tubes of mustard sauce."
He mumbles while gnawing on a strip of jerky.
"Hey. Did you hear the one about the guy that wished for a ham sandwich from the djinni?”
He waits for a response but only gets puzzled looks.
"What? Really? You never did?...
Well, the guy couldn't believe the djinni he released from the lamp could really grant wishes. So, the guy says, 'Okay, djinni, if you really can grant wishes, then make me a ham sandwich.' The djinni looks at the guy and says, 'Your Wish is My Command!’ and Poof!, turned the poor guy into a ham sandwich. Hahahaha!"
| DM Carbide |
Merida peeks behind the curtain and sees a short hallway, ending at another curtain. She thinks she hears a low moan from behind it and echoing in the hall.
Merida Perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Sylvester winks at Corey.
"I can help you out there."
Sylvester uses his fey abilities (Prestidigitation) to soil the food in the containers.
Prestidigitation is like a 0 level equivalent of the Wish spell. :)
"'ey! Oi wus aboyt ter ayte dat!"
Bullwhip heads around the corner to find something to eat.
| DM Carbide |
There's a curtain near Bullwhip. Brushing it aside in search of food, the dwarf sees yet another curtain just past the first. On the other side is a room containing several mats and low beds. The stone walls of the room are deeply carved with jagged runic symbols. On a small table is a brick of smoldering incense, but its heavy scent does not disguise an underlying sharp smell. Unfortunately for the dwarf, there is no food here.

Corey walks into the room and takes a look around.
Know (Nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

"Hey. Hear that? Behind the wall? The hissing. This chamber is very close to Riddleport's Gas Forge, which is built over a carbauxine well. On our way out, we could punch a hole in the wall to let the gas into this area."
"For now, let's see if there's anything of value in this room."

Corenthiir

Corey heads to the curtained doorway that Merida is at. He takes a peek inside.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
| DM Carbide |
Trying to keep quiet, Corey twitches the curtain aside and peeks in. Five feet in front of the curtain is a wall, so he chances a glance around the corner.
The first impression the bard gets is of a surgery. Three humans lie on their stomachs on cots, their clothing rolled down to expose their backs. A blue-skinned humanoid with elaborate scars and chains dangling around them stands between the humans, using a scalpel to finish carving a design in one's back. It looks up at Corey and hisses.

The being stares at Corey and for just a moment its face shifts to look like an old enemy (if I knew your play history I'd try to pick someone appropriate, but alas). In any case, DC 15 Will save or shaken for two rounds.

Corey howls after stepping into the room and gets a good look at the creature's face.
"It's my ex-mother in law!!!"
Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Composing himself, he retrieves a scroll of grease from his pack and invokes the spell from the parchment. A slippery mass appears underneath the creature.
"Gonna need some help over here!"
He calls out to his companions.

Corey keeps his wits about him at the sight, then conjures a film of ectoplasmic slime beneath the creature.
What's the save DC for the scroll?
| DM Carbide |
The creature easily keeps its footing despite the slippery surface.
Sylvester Solstar
|
Sylvester makes a face at Corey's attempt at a spell.
"Scroll magic? Surely you can do better than that."
Sylvester and Shaggy make a fine team. Sylvester rides his dog easily with his knees alone as the dog-gnome team make use of hit and run tactics. The gnome attempts to show Corey what real magic is all about.
He casts his own Grease spell (DC 18) and then turns Shaggy around just in case he is not successful.
Ride check, DC 5, No hands: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Concentration check, vigorous motion while casting, DC 11: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Bullwhip

"Waaat do yer suppose is down dare?" asks Bullwhip pointing southward to curtain at the end of the hall.
"By the gods!"
Corey howls after stepping into the room and gets a good look at the creature's face.
"It's my ex-mother in law!!!"
"Can she make a decent brisket!?" shouts Bullwhip back. "Al' dees 'allways, an' poison gas is makin' me famished."
Sylvester makes a face at Corey's attempt at a spell.
"Scroll magic? Surely you can do better than that."
Where is Sly and the Family Hound exactly? It might be important for more than just Bullwhip's move.
| DM Carbide |
The map image is accurate wrt position, AFAICT. The dog did all the walking, while the gnome did the spellcasting.
Bullwhip
|
The map image is accurate....
So rode in and then out after casting. Gotcha. Just wanted to make sure they had moved already, because things are about to get tight.
Bullwhip (double move) hustles in behind Corenthiir further stopping up the pathway in or out. ;)
"Well lad, can she or canny she?" says the nearly-out-of-breath dwarf to Corenthiir.
Corenthiir
|
A bit distracted, Corey manages to turn an eye towards Bullwhip.
"Actually, yeah. She was a very good cook. She'd slow roast brisket in the stump of an old oak tree. It was quite delicious."
Bullwhip
|
"Sounds delicious. Let's git oyt av 'ere an' fend an auld oak. Oi'll cleave wan down if we canny fend a stump."
The Red Reverend
|
The Reverend also double moves.
"After what you did to the barrels back there, do you really want to talk about food?"
Bullwhip
|
"Al' 'ere for de brisket aye? Well don't forget who wus 'ere first." says the dwarf over his shoulder to the late arrivals.
He tugs at Corenthiir's sleeve and asks "Lad, is she gonna make it 'ere, or ye still gonna nade dat tree?"
Merida Bowie

@DM Carbide: Would it be ok to assume that Merida followed Corey behind the first curtain? I was away this weekend and had no opportunity to post that action before initiative started...
If no, Merida would stay outside (light grey image) and keep watch as it got too crowded inside.
Otherwise, Merida would start her movement from her dark grey image, think for a second what the blue-skinned humanoid could be and shoot an arrow at it:
Knowledge: Dungeoneering t: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 (if applicable)
Longbow Point-Blank: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Piercing: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10
Dice bot, we need to talk... :-(
| DM Carbide |
It's Knowledge (Planes) to identify it; there's a spoiler in my first post of the fight about that.
Merida's arrow glances off the chains the creature wears.
Sylvester Solstar
|
It is not a super brainy party here and I think that only the Bard is able to roll K-Planes. :)
Merida Bowie

It's Knowledge (Planes) to identify it; there's a spoiler in my first post of the fight about that.
My bad, must have overlooked it. No Knowledge (Planes) here - Merida is a just a fighter chick with a few wands... ;-)
As Merida's movements have been clarified I deleted the grey images.

Round 2: (ongoing)
The creature carefully steps across the slick floor, its chains drifting up to improve its balance. When it gets in front of Merida, the end of one chain develops a serrated edge...a wickedly sharp one, as the fighter learns to her discomfort as it slashes across her for 8 HP.
Party up!
Chain damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
The Red Reverend
|
"Hallways. My greatest enemy. Try to lure it out!"
Red moves around the corner and readies an action to slash at the moster if it gets close enough.
Slashing Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
Corenthiir
|
"Pull back, pull back!”
Corey hustles down the hall away from the weird chain creature as he unslings his bow from his back. He pops through the curtain and sees The Reverend ready to strike with his scythe.
"Woah, woah, woah! It's just me, Reverend!"
Corey relaxes and sticks his wand back in his pack.
"I hope Merida and Bullwhip pull back. Tight quarters in there."
He says, pointing with his thumb behind him.

Whoops! Totally forgot to stick it in my post. Corey would have obviously gotten a good look at the creature while casting grease from his wand.

Lol. Guess it doesn't matter.
"It's my ex-mother-in-law, back to torment me! Auugggghhh!!!"

"Ouch!"
Merida listens to her carefully retreats from the enemy and the room. (withdraw action)

The fighter withdraws, but learns the hard way that her outre opponent's chains have a considerable reach. It tags her again as she's about to turn the corner.
Merida, take another 9 HP from its attack of opportunity.
