Discussion thread for GM Zoomba's table of the SFS #3-00 The Last Bite special for Gameday X (Tier 3-4)

![]() |

when does this start? I'm playing in a local game shop game this upcoming Friday. Just need to know if this character would be available at that time.

GM Zoomba |

Sorry for the very overly delayed response:
The special is starting on Monday 9/6 (Labor Day for those in the United States).

GM Aarvid |

No worries, GM.
Actually, my 3rd level character is finishing a mission (hopefully by Monday). Otherwise, my next closest is 1-xp shy (2nd level) so not sure I'd be able to play him at this table. Did we get 4 players?

GM Zoomba |

Still just 3 at the moment, which means you'll be accompanied by a capable clone Pregen.
And if needed, a level 2 (or 5) can play here.

![]() |

Odd, I wasn't getting notifications of new posts in this thread. Happened on another game last month as well.

![]() |

To avoid making a couple of level 1s not have to play up, I didn't play Amariel last week so Amariel is good to go.

GM Zoomba |

With a grease-elf (mechanic), laser-sworder (solarian), and theoretically a nerd-mage (technomancer) among you, which pregen would you like to have accompany you all in the likely chance a 4th RL player doesn't jump in at the last minute?

![]() |

Looks like we could use a face - either the envoy or the operative ones.
Finished the scenario today, just updated the character to level 4

![]() |

I suppose I could look it up, but does this have the starship tag?

GM Zoomba |

Pleasure to have you! And just in time: the adventure's beginning in the gameplay thread!

GM Aarvid |

Ok, my level 3 is still in mid-combat. So I will bring the level 2 (or I could do a pregen and hold the chronicle).
Kaath is my Solarian (1xp shy of level 3).

GM Zoomba |

Either works for me. If you would enjoying playing your actual character for, Kaath is welcome aboard. (And can also try the ealier tasks, or any future ones ofc)

![]() |

since this has the starship tag, should we take a moment to determine what roles? As a mechanic, I can do Science Officer or Engineering, I also have 2 ranks in piloting, and have athletics for chief mate.

![]() |

Staar has a +4 to gunnery, so she can be a secondary gunner.

![]() |

Well crud. With the change of characters and the intro, I was feeling an overwhelming sense of Deja Vu.
I did not realize this is the exact same special they ran at Gameday IX :(
So I cannot play this with Kaath at all either. GM I am so very sorry but have to drop.

GM Zoomba |

Ah, understood. Best of luck and sure to see you again around the forums.
Which means after all that, we will be joined be a pregen after all. Who would you like to bring along?

GM Zoomba |

Also, now is the time to slot your boons. This scenario does have the Starship tag.
In addition, if any of you have the 'Acquainted with Datch' Ally Boon (from scenario 2-01 Pact World Warriors!) or the Big Win against Big Potion (a slotless boon, from 2-17 Cost of Living) on this character they will have an affect in certain encounters in this scenario.

We got a face PC, but we are lacking in magic - the technomancer one should help us nicely.

![]() |

Profession Plumber: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Also, if we do want, I can slot a boon and get us the Sunrise Maiden for the Starship combat.

![]() |

If it's better than a tier 4 Drake - since we are severely understaffed, we should avoid all the optional starship missions.

![]() |

Amariel should play with his Perception +10.
Donovan and Staar can keep a lookout (Perception +5) or Donovan can try to cheat, though I imagine a blunder would have serious repercussions (he has a lot of bonuses, so it's kinda unlikely).
Raia has Perception +0 and Bluff +1, so she can just help watch Denanne.

![]() |

So Donovan has +13+d6 bluff but I do not know the DC.
The good thing about Donovan is that he has 'Convincing Liar' ... if I roll low I could potentially reroll the bluff and forego the d6.
Convincing Liar (Ex; Bluff): When you attempt a Bluff check, you can choose not to roll your expertise die until later. After you determine what the check’s result would be, you can choose to either roll your expertise die and add the result to the total or forgo the expertise die and reroll the check. At 9th level, you can spend 1 Resolve Point to reroll the check and add the result of your expertise die.
--
So should I take the lead?

![]() |

It makes sense to me that we'd want to cheat, since we wouldn't want this to be left up to random chance, right?

![]() |

I totally misread how you could use bluff in this challenge! o.O
Donovan is definitely our Playah

GM Zoomba |

Also, this could be a good thread to think about/discuss what the next mission(s) you would like to embark on after you finish the current one.
As I mentioned, when you and the other tables gain successes more missions may open up and you can always change your choices, but if we generally have a "mission on deck" that could help keep things moving.

![]() |

The Diaspora - I believe this group will do quite well in combat

![]() |

Yeah, I've built Amariel to use a big effin gun but I've barely gotten to use it, thanks to AP credits and a scenario where you had to hand over all your tech. >:(
I vote Diaspora.

GM Valen |

A plain, fairly unremarkable looking android wanders through the commotion with wide eyes that constantly draw him away from his path, "Hello friends. I am looking forward to working with you all. I believe my skills would be best utilized helping you identify creatures of a mystical nature."
--------------------------------------
**AID TOKEN: Provide Knowledge**
**Passing From**: GM Valen
**Passing To**: GM Zoomba
**Aid Character Name**: Estrel-4 (Male Technomancer 5)
Effect: Gain the benefit of a successful average difficulty Mysticism check to identify a creature or recall knowledge.
**Boosted?** Yes
**Boost Effect**: Must be boosted to use Effect.
--------------------------------------

![]() |

Hopefully it'll be a magical disease, otherwise we'll consume the token to cause some extra damage or get some healing on the first combat

![]() |

Can we use the aid token to know more about the plague if its coming from a different plane of existence? That seems pretty mystical.
Also, while doing my routine checking of chronicle sheets, I found discrepency between my credit amounts. I was double counting a day job check on an earlier chronicle, and I have 32 credits fewer than my character sheet actually said. I have corrected my profile.

![]() |

Probably better to use on the creature or source of the infection as soon as we bump into them

![]() |

What a start - I'll try to take down yellow and move further in to let the group attack the others without cover penalties
Or we can clear the entrance and let them come after us outside... that'll make the job easier for the ranged characters, but also leave them more vulnerable.
-----
@GM are they incorporeal? Staar's shard apocalypse solarian crystal "causes the damage dealt by your solarian weapon to function as a force effect" - destroying incorporeals is a source of great fun when playing this PC.

GM Zoomba |

They are fully corporeal - the my description of its weird 'insubstantial' quill was more to explain why their quill hits EAC instead of the more normal KAC. Sahdow-stuff. Apologies if that made it unclear.
And yeah, I'm not crazy about the space this mission puts this combat in.

![]() |

The zuvaks took over the entrance already, so might as well let them bottleneck it
Staar has cold resistance 1, so 3 less damage this round

GM Zoomba |

Noted!
Also, now would be a sold time to start thinking about whihc mission you may wish to try out next. In addition to the three remaining 'covert' missions, you efforts with Denanne have lead to an 'Action Mission' request coming in from her.

![]() |

I don't recall, is there an advantage to clearing all phase 1 missions, or should we just rush to the next phase?

GM Zoomba |

There is no specific benefit to clearing all the phase 1 missions, other than allowing you to then do the corresponding phase 2 ones.

![]() |

I hope that survival isn't literally the survival skill - I don't think anyone has a good bonus on it

![]() |

do we need to pass on the aid token? I'll spend a resolve point to give people extra starship actions.
(honestly, I never really understood how the tokens work)

![]() |

1 - Castrovel
2 - Sun
Coin toss: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Castrovel it is

GM Zoomba |

Aid token was passed along after you used it (to a table also doing that smae mission as it turns out. you helped coordinate your investigations :)
If you didn't want to use the aid token to benefit yourselves anytime soon, that is when you can attempt to Boost it and pass it on. (so the table we received it from boosted and passed rather than used and passed).
And so off to the 2nd planet it is!

![]() |

just realized that we're all species that comes from Castrovel. Amariel was born on Osoro, though.

![]() |

Three lashuntas, lol - hadn't noticed at all. What a tiny universe!

![]() |

Can Raia try to grease the doshko off Suzi's paws? With the shaken condition, the odds are in our favor - and that might help us negotiate a surrender, or at least Staar will get beaten up less
