Our adventure begins in the Bazaar of Sails, a bustling marketplace in the Dockway District of Magnimar. There a clean well-kept man with out of fashion clothes posts a notice on a local hiring board.
Immediate Assistance Needed!
Hello intrepid adventurers. I require a competent crew to
check out an abandoned building, track down a wayward
servant, and clean out some disgusting pests. Please inquire
at the Rusty Anchor.
—Zarzan
Feel free to introduce yourselves and pondering your potential job.
Rogvar Thorsson
|
Rogvar studies the job posting. He then puts a hand to his belt pouch, a reminder to himself at how few coins there are. He sighs. "Well, it's work. I'll find something worthy of a tale at some point."
An tall Ulfen man with a greying beard, Rogvar Thorsson carries with him all the trappings of a warrior. A longsword and a dagger, both well-used and well-maintained, are sheathed at his hip. A round shield is slung across his back, making the studded leather that protects him plain to see. But for anyone who knows him he is a well-traveled man full of stories and facts that are, at least occasionally, useful.
Spotting several other Pathfinders he beckons to them and introduces himself. "Greetings, friends. I'm Rogvar Thorsson, and I am hoping that you'll join me on this little errand. I've come to enjoy the company of Pathfinders, and I'd say that you all look the part," he says, this last bit punctuated by a wink.

A strange body of intricately-shaped wood, sprouting nearly a dozen branches twisted into the shape of limbs and bearing a strange, sparkly black orb at its center, turns toward Rogvar. The strange creature bears a warhammer at its side and a small pack slung between two unmoving limbs. After a moment's quiet examination, they speak. "Greetings, Rogvar Thorsson. I am Interi. If the Waiting Void consents to wait a little longer for us, then I shall join you."
Rixette Bragg
|
A half-orc woman with a tricorn hat and hatchets lining her waist grins. "I'm Rixette Bragg from the Risen Albatross, and I'd be happy to join! We're on leave at the moment, just dropped off some merchandise in Magnimar. I'm a Pathfinder too, as it happens! See, Captain Fane, they made her a Venture Captain and then she could hand out field commissions, so she made all of the crew Pathfinders! I was just at the Grand Lodge for the first time, checking the place out. Pretty swanky."
Ithuriel Falsus Sacerdos
|
A far older looking man, dressed in an off-white set of robes with an even whiter beard slowly shuffles along the dirt path. He is an obvious man of faith as a softly glowing halo slowly revolves around his head a few inches from the top, it's light illuminating his face in a holy fashion. "Well met, I am Ithuriel." He offers a gentle smile as he finds more Pathfinders.
Hunching down he looks at the notice on the board. "Seems someone has quite a few tasks. Though, completing these steps one at a time will likely be its own reward."
Snaps!
|
A Kobold with metallic green scales saunters up; she wears a wide-brimmed hat to keep her eyes in the shade and blinks in the light. Around her neck is a shard of a calcified egg. She carries a longspear.
They sent me all the way here from Otari. This must be an important mission!
She mouths the words as she reads the placard. …oh.
She turns and greets you. Anyway, I'm Snaps! Her hat suddenly blows off her head. As she runs off to chase it down you realize there's no wind.

It's easy enough to find the man who posted the notice at the Rusty Anchor. There Zarzan explains his situation in heavy accented Common.
"I was once an apprentice to the great wizard Meave the Enchantress in the Thassilonian realm of Bakrakhan. While on an errand to retrieve rare supplies in Xin-Edasseril, Earthfall stranded me outside of time. When I traveled south to see if my teacher's home and study were still standing."
He pauses for a moment to make sure you're following the story before continuing
"I found Meave’s home on a nearby island the locals call Gull Island. It is unfortunately infested with oozes. I hired an ooze mephit to handle it but he's fairly overdue and I'm worried he may have sided with the slimy oozes. I'd like you to clean out any remaining oozes and the mephit too is he turns out to be a problem."
Arcana, Society, Magnimar Lore or Thassilon Lore (or any relevant seeming lore) might tell you more. Feel free to roll yourself here.
Rixette Bragg

"What exactly is an ooze mephit? I've never heard of such a thing. I suppose there's all kinds of things in this world, though, right, avocado?" She elbows Interi in the side playfully.
Rixette has none of those skills.
Interi
|
"Many things grow," Interi says, then turns toward Rixette. "The avocado, the conrasu, the half-orc. All eventually decay and are unmade in the proper time."
Interi also has none of those skills.

Do you have any wisdom on fighting oozes? Or occultism for general oozy info like common immunities?
| Pirate GM |
He responds "I think Mud Mephit might be more technically correct, a small flying elemental creature that seemed particularly suitable. My magics are mostly restorative in nature and are rather unsuited for dealing with slimy blobs. With a variety of skills I suspect a groups of adventurers like yourself should be able to handle such a task."
Not really any further info gained from those 7s. We'll say Pathfinder training coves basic knowledge of creature types. Oozes tend to be immune to critical hits and and mindless, after that their abilities and immunities and such vary greatly by the specific type of ooze.

"Ooze Mephit?" Ithuriel asks. "I have never heard of one of those." He listens about the mud mephit. "Don't suppose there is much to prepare. Who is this wayward servant you wish found?"
Interi
|
"The mephit is the servant. The servant is the mephit. Does it have a name?"
| Pirate GM |
Ithuriel actually knows some things about Ooze mephits.
They are a type of elemental creature. Weaker than their elemental kin, they usually serve the whims of more powerful beings. They can fly and their bodies are made of slime, but they have no special power over oozes, or any other creature, for that matter. Additionally they are sycophantic creatures, lacking in both intelligence and subtlety. To help counter their feelings of inadequacy, mephits often give themselves important sounding titles.
"It called its self Nazraz, it seemed rather dedicated to its task but I fear I may have been deceived or perhaps it fell to the oozes."
I am supposed to remind you that you each have 1 hero point. Also there's no school items etc.
There's not really much else to do here, but if you want to do any shopping or other things in town before arriving feel free to flash back.
Gull Island is one of many similar islands in the waters near Magnimar, some of which boast dilapidated ruins. A building of wood and plaster stands at the peak of the hill-shaped island. Despite its supposed age, it looks to have withstood the passage of time.
There are no immediate signs of oozes...
You notice that sea birds seem to avoid landing on the island and gain a +1 circumstance bonus to yout next initiative roll thanks to your increased awareness of potential danger.
The building itself has a single entrance at the front. The walls seem to be made of some sort of reinforced wood, the building is about 10-12 feet high, is damp and smells bad.
Go ahead and place yourselves in the orange dotted box at the top of the map. Also we're not going into initiative yet, but go ahead and describe your exploration activity and roll and initiative check which we'll use when needed.

A female gnome with hair the colors of the rainbow appears huffing up. Well, not huffing TOO much. She's clearly in decent shape.
"Don't be going into that thing without me! Oh wait. I'm supposed to introduce myself to new people. Hi, I'm Renato. " She stops, as if that is supposed to explain everything.
"Okay, so what are we looking for?"

Prepared for trouble eventually opening the front door reveals a lone table that faces the entryway in this windowless chamber.
The floors are slick with moisture, and a putrid smell hangs in the damp air. A trail of filth leads to an open door opposite the building’s entrance.
Additionally Interi notices a weak bit of flooring right in front. It'll be easy enough to jump past to the sides or with some work one could safely reinforce or open up with thievery.
Interi
|
"The Waiting Void is patient" Interi says, pointing to the floor in front of them. "Do not rush to your end."
No thievery for Interi. They'll jump across, unless someone wants to try to disable first.
