Well done! I will be hard pressed to rise to your standards.
Next question: Do you guys know each other? You have a day before you meet your new friend at the Porthmos Club. Do you want to have some time to meet IC and discuss things?
Or shall I move ahead to the Porthmos Club?
And no worries, Rags, if Emil isn't perfectly built. It will be a while before you get to combat (physical or social), so there's time. Enjoy your show. I hope everyone breaks legs.

Tilnar, I may you to run me/him through teh maker-program and see if I cant tweak him a bit better?Nighters!
I'll take a look, Rags. The one thing about being a cleric rather than a warpriest is that you can't get to Fencing Grace at L1 because of the other feats you need to get there.
| Tilnar |
Dawni just got back to town -- and was away for a few years -- but it's possible that there might be a "friend from before" sort of relationship from when she used to sneak out.
Other than that, it'll be about the meeting.

Ah, so to be an 'actual' fencer, I need both Weapon Finesse AND slashing grace. :P
YOu can see how I tweaked him somewhat,... but I'm not worried about making him 'the bestest' fencer or cleric-caster ever, just able to help and survive with combo of skills and cleric spells.
I DO like the drinking trait though, TOO perfect for a cleric of Cayden! ;P

I don't see anything wrong with the character, Rags -- at the moment, you look like you're building toward a near-even balance of magic and fighting with the blade -- and you you're suffering a little in that you're not as good as someone dedicated to either.
If you were leaning more combat-tish, you might drop the Wisdom to 15 and then bump your Dex (and maybe throw a point into str for carrying capacity) - that'd mean you'd get to 18 dex with your level 4 boost, and 16 wis with your level 8 boost (though by level 8 there's probably an item boosting something) -- but that's a hit to your spell DCs and (eventually) bonus spells.
If you were going more magicky, then you could do the opposite, Wis to 17, dex to 15, so you get to 18 Wis (for better DCs) sooner.
The other thing would be the selection of your non-campaign trait - you said you were looking at Acrobatics (tricky with 2+ skill points) -- the Reckless Trait would make it a class skill. The other option would be something that gives perception as a class skill (Seeker, while boring, is an example of that).
.....
Given your charisma, it might not be the worst idea to consider the variant channel stuff, I believe you can channel other people to feel drunk (which is to say, nauseated -- which is crazy powerful).
.....
Ultimately, the thing that'll slow you down in combat is that without a dip, you can't get to Fencing Grace before L5 (as you need L3 to take Weapon Focus first) -- though I suppose if Treppa's benevolent, maybe you could get an agile weapon to avoid that.
Of course, if you're leaning slightly more combatty, dipping a level of swashbuckler would change your life - assuming Treppa would let you retrain your existing Finesse feat, that is. Inspired Blade would give you both Finesse and Weapon Focus for free, letting you 'retrain' to fencing grace and fight with dex to hit and damage as soon as you make the dip.
....
If you hadn't already posted, I'd also have said there could be benefits to shrinking -- being a halfling would give a +1 to saves, to hit and to AC (being small is fun when you're a dex fighter) -- not to mention a charisma boost for your skills and channels. You'd get a perception bonus, also (unless you trade it for something else) - buuut, you'd not be able to take Selective Channel right away, and you'd lose skilled - which is rough.

In my experience, clerics wind up leaning more into the caster bits as they go up in level. It’s hard to keep up with melee combat when you have 3/4 BAB. So I would see some benefit for planning ahead and knowing that, certainly by level 7-9, your spells will probably be more powerful than your sword unless you really focus on those martial aspects.
Most of my clerics make that transition around that point.

Based on the introductions, there's at least a 50% chance we spend all our time trying to bed one another. ;P

Thanks for the pointers, & tips.
yes I have no delusions that he will ever beat an equal lvl swashbuckler in a fair fight, (But he never plans to fight fair!) but I think that with a decent dex, (+items eventually?) and a selective use of teh right spells, (and medium armor!) he can hold his own! ;P
The original version of this guy had traits that made Acrobatics and bluff class skills, so he was going to start out as a dex-dodger, But those had to go to be more in line with what I had in mind. ;P
I think maybe a lil tweak but stay on track for what I am now, enough boost to make him a decent melee, but able to channel/heal/and spell for support/debuff, He'll be fine.

OK
Getting back to the previous question, DO we know each other?
Should each of us know at least one other so that we loosely know each other? More or less? :P
Treppa, please refresh my memory, this is Oppara, so I dont need to worry about hiding worship of Cayden here right? At worst he is considered a 'new upstart' power, so no real fear of being persecuted? (I mean, who DOESN'T love a power that's all about bravery and drinking!?!?) ;)
Just trying to re-write his background.
I figure son of a small lesser/minor 'house' or upper-middle class successful merchant with delusions of grandeur? :)
He was drawn to worship of Cayden (besides the fun drinking parts) because he really does just want to help people, which is pretty much Cayden's portfolio. And the AP Trait because he wants to make the lives of everyone better. He doesn't really care about personal or political power. (Although he probably wouldnt turn away any that he got either,... as he could use it to help 'the cause') ;)
Something like that?
| Ragadolf |
OK (funny how a power of healing is frowned upon, but the upstart power of drunkenness is not) ;P
Yeas I think so, didn't really see anything in the available AP traits that made me go "I want that" (Much less "I need that!"). But it is at least useful with it's ability to gather one bit of info on a person each day as if you made a successful roll in that social battle skill. :)

Auguste could certainly be known to anybody. His writing would lend him some notoriety. While the circles he mingles in are not always reputable (his sullied family name and scandalous diatribes make him a bit problematic for high society sorts), but there would be fashionable, intellectual, and countercultural circles that would take interest in him.

I couldn't find anything canon about how the Porthmos Club (does anyone else keep thinking Porthos Club?) looks. Given that it was a former temple to Shelyn, it should be beautiful. I've decided the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette, IL will stand in for the Porthmos Club.
While researching this, I saw some aerial shots of the temple taken from the north. Just north of the grounds -- I mean, if I had kept going one more block I'd have been there -- is a major canal and Wilmette Harbor, as well as a beach. I had zero idea any of that was there. None. It's invisible from the south side of the temple. D'oh! I'd have loved to watch the boats.

CH,
If no one else puts it in their background, I'll say that Emil befriended Auguste when was a 'Rebel without a clue or a cause' and trying to figure out where he belonged.
Obviously he found Cayden, the rest is history, but I can see how Emil would have been impressed with Auguste's ability with words and how they can affect others. (Auguste probably gave him a few pointers on how to be 'smooth' too) ;P
HOW close they are as friends? I'm open to suggestion. But even if they haven't hung out lately, they should be glad to see each other again, yes?
What do you think? :)

Ragadolf wrote:And that story IS funny. Amazing how we don't know what's literally around the corner or the next block sometimes. :)Seriously. If a GM had said I didn't see, y'know, a freakin' harbor because of a bad perception roll, I'd have protested.
LOL<
Very true. :)But think about it, MOST (if not all) horror movies owe a lot to the fact that the victims, erm, people involved, simply failed to notice something that was RIGHT there. ;P
I don't watch scary movies in general, but even I'VE seen enough of them to be that guy who shouts "TURN AROUND AND OPEN YOUR EYES!" at the screen. ;)

That works. Maybe not close or recent comrades, but some level of fond recognition.

Probably a good idea, before we run out of attractive young Opparans to bed. ;)

Hi all!
FYI, this coming Tuesday, June 1, is my wedding anniversary.
(25 years my wife has put up with me. She deserves a medal or something.) ;P
But since i am WORKING this Tuesday, I will be taking my wife to a B&B to celebrate this weekend. After that I will be doing a week-long dance show, SO during the week I will be checking (occasionally) when able but will not be posting much for the next week.
Just another 'I'm not gone just busy' note from your local Wizzie. :)
Have a great Memorial Day!

I had way too much fun researching ancient Byzantine/Mediterranean dishes for this feast. Did you know we have very few recipes passed down from the Byzantine Empire? I guess they didn't write cookbooks. Many of these dishes are Turkish or Greek, and they are authentic.
Also, Greek cooking has not changed much for centuries.

Culinary history is fascinating. I got to try a dish in Venice that was researched from pre-Columbian sources (but post Marco Polo). Pasta, yes. Tomatoes, no. It was a savory strawberry sauce with native shellfish. I love learning about that stuff. It’s so hard to conceive of European cuisine without the use of New World foodstuffs.

Hey all.
EXTREMELY busy at work.
(What ELSE is new?!?) ;P
I still need ot update my sheet. (SHOULD be able to get to that next week?)
Just letting you know. I have decided to take that 'Alternate Channeling' power of drunkeness.
Despite the hit to healing, it just seems far too good of a RP'ing tool and usefulness NOT to take for the cleric of an eternally drunken deity! ;P
Have a good weekend!
I just survived 15 hours of ear-torture. I mean 'modern dance at high volume' rehearsal.
Saturday is the performance. I am swinging by and picking up earplugs for the show. First time I'll have used those in 13 years.
And there is NO way I am turning their music up any louder. @#%$ 'they cant hear it' BS. They are already 20 db beyond the legal limit., (AS stated on their contract!) They can just deal with it. ;P
Sorry. been a long day. And I literally just took two (REAL) shots to help my RL headache and prep to sleep. My fussiness MAY be a bit exaggerated.
Naw. It's deserved and well-earned.
Nighters! :)

Sorry for the absence! Last week was incredibly hectic. This week looks downright boring by comparison, so I should be able to keep up now.
BTW - the landlord bit was mostly for background. I don't suspect it will be terribly consequential.

Thaddeus squints at the chicken scratch on the walls, then at the fleeing chicken. "But that's not possible..." he mutters, looking around as if to see what other impossibilities this place may hold.
Good conclusion! Yes, this is indeed an homage to that classic apocalyptic movie: Day of the Chicken.
