Jido

Jido cautiously approaches the hut, checking for anything unusual, out of place, or which may indicate the presence of our errant apprentices.

You can use your rolls on the spoilers below.
As you approach the hut, you begin to get your bearings.
You quickly scan the surroundings for potential threats or things that seem out of place.
They look like they were made within the last 24 hours.
You see no other movement around the valley.
The outside of this dilapidated shack is moldy and has walls full of holes. Its rotted doors hang open on broken hinges. You cannot hear any movement from within.
You enter to find it unoccupied, a dirty bedroll in one corner along with three daggers and 6 days' worth of trail rations.
BiggerBird starts searching and he spots a suspicious hole in the wall near the bedroll. Upon examination, he finds a small bundle containing a journal, a scroll, and four potions.
These are four potions of cure light wounds.
This is a scroll of scorching ray.
The only entry, which bears today's date, says:
Oh my dear demonic god. These stupid kids are hated in town but the roots of mistrust were enough to convince them to join my mother's plan to attack the jubilee and circumvent the dragon's protection. They beat up the flower pickers, but they let them escape alive! But we retrieved the amulet and together with mother's sacrifice this will be enough to protect the beast in the cave from the dragon's wrath.

Makeshift Campsite
A rusty metal pot sits over an extinguished campfire in this hastily prepared resting stop. Three logs are pulled near the fire, and in between are several marks scrawled in the dirt.
The marks scrawled in the dirt are crude drawings of a two-headed stick figure that’s shown emerging from a cave and running toward some houses.
The rock formations surrounding the cave are identical to the rock at the west end of the map (area C4).
The drawing’s meaning: This drawing is part of some sort of plan involving a monster in the cave to the west and Highdelve.

BiggerBird looks around and starts whistling, clicking, warbling, and cawing toward the trees. Cast Commune with Birds to see if the birds know of any humanoids in the area are than bunch that ran back to the city.

did you knew that, besides their beauty, the flowers locally known as brightblooms can be used to medicinal purposes? Their crushed petals are very potent, and can be used notably in a bandage to stop the blood loss, or in a decoction to give someone a good night rest when the person is ill and feverous.
After this botany lesson, Mallycorn inspects the shack.
One bedroll, suggesting only one person living here. Not very tidy, doesn't care much about his belongings. Doesn't care much about appearance. Probably impulsive. Used to poverty, or the outdoors. Someone with a big idea of himself, full of ego, as he didn't care to hide or trap what should be his most precious treasures. He's sure he -or she, but I would suspect a male-can't be stopped, and that he's right to do whatever his plan is.
He sighs
Then, I can be wrong, just sharing my general feelings without having met whoever lives here. The shack isn't far from the town, so his plan is tied to it, and he wants to be able to act quick, and discreetly: there is no horse to betray his presence.
On a side note, maybe I should stop watching Mindhunters on Netflix.^^
Praying to his godess, he traces a spiral over his closed eyes, and looks for magical auras

These potions are healing draught, you should take one of them. I can cure myself, and others, of course. The scroll, I have no idea, unfortunatly, I'm not an expert.
He picks up the journal, and politely asks
does someone want to read it? I don't want to hog the cover: we're here to share an adventure.

Brialla considers the ground outside, ”Tracks are recent. They’ve been here lately.”
On reading the diary, she snaps it shut, ”The kids are patsies. Our cultist is the real problem. Got a plan to use the amulet to protect some monster from the dragon, then set it loose on Highdelve.”
She looks about, ”Gotta get that amulet. Any idea where to start look in’? The tracks go dry on the stone there.”

As Mallycorn examines the potions, Jido tries to decipher the scroll but is unable to parse it. "Four healing draughts, you say? Convenient. Each of us should take one."
She puts one in her pouch.

She surveys the landscape, "The cave may harbour a threat. But we should get between the cultist and the cave."
Brialla begins to move, "Give me time to find a spot." The archer comes around the large outcropping.

Beware, they have a third man, a tiefling. Never saw him coming. He's a fine shooter, but now he has a sword in hand, right on the other side of the boulder.I'll take care of the wounded.

Looking at a potential two-against-one situation, Jido steps behind some cover and uses the power Desna has granted her to improve her aim to call upon a celestial eagle instead, positioning it in the air near Tolwin.
Jido takes a five-foot step and uses her True Strike to spontaneously cast Summon Monster I at level 2 due to her Varisian Tattoo

Mallycorn Tavee

No, we aren't bullies, people who take advantages of other's weaknesses, who ambush folks who aren't able to defend themselves.
The tone is calm, the words are cold.
Mallycorn doesn't add "unlike you", because it isn't needed.
You have done bad choices, and hurted people. You see now how fast tables can turn, how the path of violence, in words or acts, can come back to hurt you. I'm not here to judge you. Only Pharasma can. You have a long way toget back the trust of the folks of Highdelve. You won't have to ask for their forgiveness, but to merit it, from now on. And the first step on this path to redemption is to give back an amulet you stole
| GM Nowruz |
Tolwin is not certain and looks at Mallycorn with a pleading look on his face.
"Look you people, we do not have the amulet! I ... I want us to build our own path, ok! But ... but where should we go? We have nothing except of this here and now ... now we can never go back to Highdelve." he says and it is obvious that he seeks a solution quite desperately.
Mallycorn Tavee
|
So who has the amulet? Was it on your tiefling partner? We are trying to help you. Follow me , and don't try anything foolish. Leave your weapons here. Jido, would you be so kind as to tie our prisoner with my rope?
Mallycorn gives his rope while asking the young man, and his own partners, to follow him near the wounded body of Richelle.

See farther than Highdelve. There are other places, where you could do good, where you could do better, with some training. We're all here to learn, everyday of our lives.
| Brialla Elberion |
Brialla shudders gratefully with the cold, "Thanks, Mallycorn, they really caught me one."
The ranger retrieves her bow, then moves over beside the teenagers. She still has her sword drawn, "You're being cagey and I don't like it. Right now we aint killing you and we don't plan to. Plans can change though. Now spill the beans: who has the amulet, what are there plans, where are they... everything. Right now."
Brialla looks toward the cave with an unhappy sense of inevitability.
Jido
|
Jido ties up Tolwin with the rope.
"Mallycorn is right, Tolwin. You've done some very bad things for which you must atone, but they don't have to define you. Mother Moon grants us the power to decide our own fates, and that includes you."
She checks on Richelle, to confirm she's in no danger of dying.

Richelle awakens and hears your words and sees the situation they are in.
She looks at Tolwin who is still pushing you away.
But she looks at Jido who treated her wounds with concern and for the first time you see trust in her eyes.
With a quivering voice she says.
"We did such terrible things. I am ... am so sorry! We only know that the Tiefling and his mother wanted to conduct a ritual and unleash something on the jubilee to distract the townsfolk so that he could do something ... we do not know what. And we also do not know where his mother is ... she has been in the cave for ages now with this amulet we stole. Please ... we just stay here and wait for you, ok? We cannot go back to town!!"
Tolwin spits on the floor
"Who are you anyway?? What do you want here?!?" he shouts.
