Most interesting thing for Eldrin at level eight is the ability increase. He now has 22 intelligence (+6) so a bunch of extra skill points and a language. Eldrin also gets access to level 4 spells.

BAB +6 so he has a iterative attack.

Str 22 and Spirit Surge +2 so more to hit and damage

1st level spells as a Medium now and also 2nd level spells when he channels the archmage or hierophant.

Just a question on the roots. Aren’t they bludgeoning damage as based on the description of your post they try to grab and crush and pull? That would be bludgeoning, right? Would help so that defending bones can absorb more of the damage. ;-)

Will post based on the answer as he does not have lay on hands and I’d have to into the defense.

And is Taariik grappled?

I wrote B/S for the roots as that's what HeroLab said, though on closer inspection I think they're closest to tentacles which would just be bludgeoning.

However defending bone is DR 5/bludgeoning so they bypass the DR the same as the bite, sorry! If it's any consolation if I'd been slightly harsher in reading this monster's stats I could have taken another bite attack (it gets a free bite attack after pulling a creature within reach, which it technically did twice to you. I decided they probably meant pulling from outside of reach to inside of reach, but I could see a mean GM reading it the other way and getting 6 attacks!)

EDIT: Taariik is not grappled sorry. The pull ability is a bit weird narratively, it pulls you 10 feet with a CMB but then lets you go

Yep, i read the gm post last night and thought we are all lucky it was Taariik that got attacked. That would have killed grunyak or hux. That monster is built to kill one character being immune to most magic then pull to a huge damage. What a wallip! I don't think i have ever seen something bite twice in the same roung like that. Brutal!

I was trying to think how I could possibly heal him enough to live through the next round. I then read the next post that combat was over. My brain stopped racing through useless ideas, and i went back to eating my ice cream. Panic to passive in about two seconds. That definitely is the challenge.

I'm happy for the seance boons to stack, mainly because they appear to be untyped. Having actually read the rules now untyped bonuses don't stack with themselves, and in this case it's the same champion seance boon so I think Huxwren is correct and they don't stack, sorry

@Dru yes switching back to your Morningstar & shield before entering makes sense

Speaking of checking things - did the belkers swap numbers during their growth spurt? It looks like Huxwren was attacking #2 earlier, but now it's #1 and the damage from her attacks and Eldrin's spell didn't transfer with the number swap.

They did swap positions from when you first entered, but it wasn't a mistake (beyond the size issue). They started with 1 on the left and 2 on the right

1) Huxwren moves to the right and attacks 2 (21 damage)
2) 1 moves across the room and goes into Huxwren's space, going past 2 so that it's all the way against the right wall.
3) Taariik attacks 2 (25 damage), Eldrin attacks 1 (14 damage)
4) At this point I had to fit both large creatures in. 1 was more to the left so it got shunted further to the left to fit everything in. I moved it farther than necessary to prevent disadvantaging the players too much; I didn't want Taariik to have stepped into a flank. On the other hand the one Huxwren had already attacked moved more than 5 feet away and still did a full attack. I probably should have just left them as medium in hindsight
5) Drusilla attacks 1 (11 damage)
6) Huxwren attacks 1 (35 damage)

It looks like I forgot to add in Drusilla's damage there, 1 should be at -60. Thanks for spotting that, and sorry for the confusion.

Air walk would allow Huxwren to attack in melee (which does a bit more damage than throwing knives), but she'd still struggle to deal much in the way of damage through its DR. A pity she didn't think to get a set of different metals for her blades - oh well.

Unfortunately, that is only possible at Paladin level 6. :-(

At 6th level, a mind sword can expend two uses of this ability as a full-round action to attack the same opponent multiple times, as if using the full-attack action.

Which one are you going for Taariik? Right now they're all at your level, though 3 of them are across a gap. I did say they take flight but I meant they were in the process of doing so when initiative was rolled, you were quickest off the draw so you get a chance to catch them before they take off. If you'd prefer you could have walked up to 1 and attacked?

Looks like Dru is up and just had fly cast on her. We can wait or bot her. I am not in any hurry. Up to the GM, I would suggest she at least fly out and position herself in front maybe readying as well. That should prevent these things from flying in and grappling all of us.

Ok ascending the stairs to Nahum's room it is! It's a wise choice; it's very difficult to rest in this dreamscape. It might be a few days until I've got a chance to move us on, and when I do we'll be near the end. Let me know if want the 2nd chronicle on the same character, and if so if anything has changed since the last chronicle.

Finally, if you do take both parts on the same character, you get a bonus chronicle worth 3xp, 6 prestige and around 14000 gold. However as that can lead to some pretty fast levelling you can instead choose to take 0xp, 2 prestige and no gold, but still get the boons on the sheet. If you're taking parts 1 and 2 on the same character, let me know how you want your bonus sheet, and as ever if you want slow or normal on your part 2 and the bonus sheet

@Grunyak I rolled everyone's saves for the fear effects, they're in the first post for this combat. You rolled a 6 followed by a 4 against 2 different effects that cause shaken, which stack to become frightened. Now that I've checked it seems both you and Dru have used your re-rolls this book.

Both aura last as long as you're in them, but Nahum's specifically only affects you once per day. I'm going to say that because of that if you start your turn outside of the auras (i.e down the stairs a little) you can end the effects, then when you return you'll only need to save against one of the effects.

Sounds good to me. I just missed where the save was rolled and it was late too for me. I was tired. I also now realize Grunyak was down five hp from an earlier fight probably with sally. I guess Grunyak is a typical healer, worried about everyone else and forgeting about himself.

Sorry GM, I though that [url=the enlarge person I cast before going up the stairs would still work as it was minute per level and with caster level 6 Taariik would have had it for 6 minutes but I assume it took longer to get up the stairs.[/url] But maybe I did not indicate well enough that I had cast that. :-)

Taariik will then be medium size if the six minutes are over and his action stay as it is so he cast the spell and it did not work.

Ah sorry, I'd completely missed that you'd cast that before. However the stairs that you knew you'd be going up are really too small; even squeezing you need two squares in a line to squeeze into, and the spiral staircase is a series of 5-foot squares at diagonals to each other so I'd think you'd have had to save it

It's interesting. Having now re-read it, it looks like neither Huxwren nor Drusilla have protection from evil (because you have to stay in the area the whole time to get that), but that the magic circle itself stops the summoned demons from entering.

Despite not having having protection from evil I'd say the demons cannot make attacks of opportunity into the circle (since they're claws would have to enter), so Drusilla can move around however she likes.

As far as I can tell it wouldn't affect currently running focus powers, only his ability to cast spells of that school, or use the focus invested in the item (though I am prepared to be corrected if someone has a reference). One interesting thing to note is that if you took an implement which still had focus in it you'd get the resonant power of that implement and he would lose it. Imagine if one of his implements were giving him +4 to CON ;)

This is such an intense and fun battle!! So good to play in campaign mode so the opponents can be increased in power!! Love the challenge!

Thanks! It's been tense for sure, and I have been seriously doubting the wisdom of giving him an extra level (especially when Eldrin's initial dispel missed the DC by one, had that taken out his shocking image it would have been over much quicker), but it seems to have worked out (unless everyone rolls poorly and he gets another turn!) It would have been such a bummer to end with a TPK, but a tense fight to finish the module is very rewarding.

I also enjoyed a few mechanics that I haven't seen come up that often; the magic circle keeping out some evil summoned creatures, psychic spellcasters having to avoid most of their spells due to being shaken etc.

As a reminder the dreamstone is a major artifact, and you learned that the only way to destroy the dreamstone was to perform the breach the veil of dreams ritual again inside the dreamstone's dream bubble on the dimension of dreams, push the stone through the door, and close it behind it

That's the only way to end its reign of terror and save the world. After doing so the bubble will collapse and you'll have to try to return to the waking world via a concentration or charisma check.

I assume you want to do the ritual (and you'll have brought all the things you need with you), but do you want to try resting first? Failure on the ritual can cause dream monsters to attack, so you might want to be rested, but doing so puts innocent lives at risk as the dreamstone's bubble is increasing at an exponential rate.

In addition resting is fraught with risk. Without Madame Carrington's protection your sleeping forms will be preyed upon by the nightmares present in the dreamstone's bubble and if they kill your sleeping forms you will wake up exhausted and unable to refresh your spells anyway (it's technically a will save to see if you can avoid the nightmare effect, but the DC goes up every time you sleep which you've done several times already).

Finally, if you do take both parts on the same character, you get a bonus chronicle worth 3xp, 6 prestige and around 14000 gold. With regards to the mask, I'd say you can take it off an immediately regain vision, it's only the initial warm-up period you need to have it on to get the bonus.

Huxwren's shaken condition came from Nahum's aura, and lasts for as long as she's in it. I'd say that being dead probably removed most of his fearsome qualities, so it's already ended.

Drusilla's fear however lasts as long as she's near the dreamstone, but I'd already said that you can leave and come back to get another save so she can just leave the room to steel herself until she feels better again.

Oh man - Champion spirit's influence penalty would have been nasty here. No matter how she slices it, Huxwren would be looking at a -2 penalty to both Concentration and effective caster level. XD

Don't mind my tears, I always cry at happy endings. Because it is so sad that the goodness is over. I will miss having this game to check every day. I am so grateful to have had this game to play. With everything going on, it has been a real gem. I have lost my 2 steady face to face games, though one is struggling back. I have completely enjoyed this game. Thank you all. Can't echo enough the incredible imagery, GM Pudding, I ready enjoyed this time. I learned a ton about the game and how to run it from you all. Thank you.
