The paladin is clearly not in the mood to be disobeyed.

It finally sinks in that Morgana is talking to her ... no, commanding her. The girl's face flushes red and she bites back sharp words as she steps aside.

Sabriyya is already out of the way, not wanting to be anywhere near this woman or thing or whatever she wants with Aldern. "If Aldern did this to her... Do you think that means...?" she says, trailing off before she finishes the question.

As Morgana turns the mirror away the figure on the floor lets out a bloodcurdling shriek.

"Aldern! I'm coming for you!"

No longer constrained by her reflection she leaps up and shambles with surprising speed out of the room, heading down the corridor with the determination of a predator on the hunt!

Morgana follow the undead woman to the door.

"Yes. I think it does." She says, in answer to Sabriyya's unfinished question. She looks genuinely remorseful and stops briefly to put a hand on Vasia's shoulder.

"I'm sorry dragă." She says sadly, before hefting her blade once more. "Let's follow her, one way or another we have to find the source of all this!"

Allowing Iesha to pass uncontested, she works her way downstairs to the basement, taking the most direct route.

When she reaches the ground floor, she pauses over the mouldy stain that you saw earlier for several moments, staring transfixed at the spiral stain. After a few minutes, she unleashes a baleful shriek and begins smashing and clawing at the stained floorboards with her claws.

It takes her only about a minute to smash through the floor with her savage claws, at which point she clambers through the hole and drops down below into the darkness beyond.

Melody follows the others as quick as she can, but they all have way too long legs. When she catches up the hole is open. "Um... do we try and follow her through that? Or find some stairs?" the inflection in her voice tells everyone Stairs has her vote.

Vasia glances at Jenica who nods at the unspoken request. The phantom steps over to the hole and sinks out of sight.

"Yes, stairs," Vasia says aloud, nodding at Melody. "Let's find them quickly."

"That assumes there are any..." Morgana says grimly. She goes over to the hole and looks down into it, wondering if there is a way to climb down.

It is a perhaps fifteen to twenty foot drop down into the room below. Morgana can just about see a shadowy figure disappearing down and out of sight into some sort of hole in the floor beneath you all. There's no way to get down through the hole without risking the drop. Jenica, closer to the scene can see that the undead is heading down some old looking stone stairs into the cliff beneath the house.

Vasia however, checking the other doors coming off the hallway finds a narrow staircase leading down into a basement level. You all hurry down the stairs and find yourselves in a large kitchen. A large oaken table, its surface covered with moldy stains and rat droppings, sits in the center of this room. Shelves line the walls, and an oversized fireplace dominates the northeast portion of the room. The shelves in the southwest wall are in a much greater state of disarray, and two one-footwide cracks in the wall near the floor lead south into the earth beyond the basement walls.

A horde of squeaking can be heard from beyond the cracks in the walls and Melody moves quietly on to examine the doorways out of the room. A doorway to the right reveals a plain bedroom with two bunks standing in it, relatively free of dust and mold. A single chair lies on its side between them. There is nothing else of interest so Melody returns on light feet to investigate the other door - which opens onto a short corridor.

Unfortunately, Morgana puts her foot on a broken plate and the cracking sound causes a sudden surge in squeaking. Abandoning caution you all run for the door and are just able to get through and close it behind you as a swarm of rats bursts from the walls and comes charging towards the door. The paladin makes up for her clumsiness by bracing against the door for a minute or so until the frenzied squeaking dies down and the threat appears to have subsided.

The room at the end of the corridor proves to be an old wine cellar. Two wine racks line the walls here, their shelves empty and dusty. While mounds of broken glass bottles clutter the floor. The way onwards is yet another door - this one stoutly made of iron. Melody sets to work with her picks and it takes a long time before the door yields to her delicate touches and opens with the screech of unused hinges. The room beyond looks to have once been some sort of arcane workshop, although it now lies in ruin. A row of soggy books sits on the northern end of a workbench along the western wall. At the other end of the workbench, what looks like three iron birdcages sit, each containing a dead diseased rat. To the east, two stained-glass windows loom. The northern window depicts a thin man with gaunt features drinking a foul-looking brew of green fluid, while the southern one shows the same man but in an advanced state of decay, as if he had been dead for several weeks. His arms raised and head thrown back in triumph, his rotting body turns to smoke and spirals into a seven-sided box.

The iron cages each contain a dead rat that suffered from sort of disease. Close examination of these cages reveals a small symbol of a pig with a mouthful of lock picks peering at a keyhole; under the pig is a guildsign that says “Pug’s Contraptions—Magnimar.” As Sabriyya approaches the workbench she feels a sudden urge to read the book open on the workbench.

Looking down at the book she feels a sudden surge of fear, knowing that her beloved husband has delved into foul magic and transformed into a lich! Thankfully Amethyst's concerned face and her own strength of mind snaps her out of the vision before she can actually react or do anything dangerous. One more door leads out of this room and opening it reveals Jenica waiting patiently at the edge of some fairly considerable excavations. Piles of broken stone, dirt, and a few ruined pickaxes line the edges of this room. The floor in the middle of the room has been torn up to reveal an ancient set of stone spiral stairs, obviously of much older construction than the surrounding basement, winding deep into the bedrock below. A foul stink, like that of rotten meat, wafts up on a cold breeze from the darkness.

Jenica can confirm that the women went down into the darkness below and Morgana prepares to lead the way down.

When Vasia steps onto the top step:
She experiences a sudden vision of Aldern, sweaty, filthy, and wild-eyed, digging away at the stone floor of this room with a pickaxe. With each swing, he
grunts out two words: “For you.” and Vasia knows instinctively that Aldern is speaking of her. As the vision ends, Aldern breaks through into the room beyond, and a horde of shrieking ghouls rises up to pull him into the darkness below before they turn their lambent eyes onto her!

DC 16 will save to disbelieve the vision. If failed you take Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 2, 1, 1) = 15 and contract ghoul fever. A DC16 fort save halves the damage and negates the fever.

Everyone else if Vasia fails her DC16 save:
You all see Vasia jerk and thrash, as though she's being clawed by unseen hands as bites and claws marks appear on her skin.

Vasia is right behind the paladin as they move through the tunnel, adding to Melody's playful bobs of illumination with a single cold light that emanates from Morgana's longsword.

Glowing like the sun, and without even needing her own abilities to do so, Morgana leads the way into the dark, which cowers before her shiny might!

Led by a fiercely glowing paladin you reach the bottom of the stairs and find yourselves in a limestone cavern. The walls drip with moisture, and swathes of black and blue mold grow in tangled, spiraling patterns on the floor, ceiling and walls. Rubble and broken bones clutter the floor and a rhythmic sound - like the breathing of some immense creature - echoes through the cave from three tunnels, one to your right and two before you. The leftmost tunnel is narrow and seems new, claw marks still mar the walls, suggesting exactly how it came to be.

The revenant's path is easy to follow, she has left a clear trail with the huge handfuls of mold that have been torn from the walls in her wake. Following her path up the central tunnel you pass the mutilated bodies of three emaciated humanoids - ghouls, who seemingly proved no match for the furious creature you pursue.

Unfortunately the ceiling rises ahead of you and out of the gloom swoops a huge bat-like creature!

Sabriyya looks to the glowing paladin and extends some luck to her, protecting her with her newest hex. She then begins to cackle, hoping to unnerve their bat-like foe. Attacks against Morgana require two attack rolls, taking the lower of the two.

Protective Luck:
The witch can cause fate to twist so that it benefits a creature within 30 feet for 1 round. Whenever that creature is targeted by an effect that requires an attack roll, including weapon attacks, the attacker must roll twice and take the worse result. A witch cannot use this ability on herself. Hexes that affect the fortune hex, such as cackle, also affect protective luck.

The bat descends like a bolt of furry lightning, angling in for the brightly glowing paladin. Even with Sabriyya's hex aiding the paladin the bat is able to latch on and bite deep!

Undeterred by the bad luck, she keeps hexing but this time focuses on the bat itself. She tries to reduce its defenses for all of her allies while continuing to cackle. Evil Eye, DC 17 for -2AC 1r/7r.

Melody's lists of worries grow by the second "Why does the tunnel breathe? Like we're walking down a fuzzy throat." when the bat thing rains down on them it is almost a relief, cause it is normal monster not a massive tongue or that dangly bit at the back of your mouth.

"Go away, stupid bat, you can't hurt the Heros of- OH!" that particular declaration is ruined when it rips a chunk out of Morgana. "Still go away"

Amethyst and Morgana both slash at the ghoul bat, cutting rents into its undead flesh as Jenica gains corporeality and the support duo unleash their various supportive powers.

The bat seems to be immune to the mental effects of Sabriyya's hex, but the amount of noise and light Morgana is emitting still draws its attention! It latches onto the paladin again - clearly goodness is tasty!

Morgana throws off the paralysis once again and stabs at the beast with desperate strength.

Morgana manages nothing more than flailing, but Melody's inspiring babbling helps Jenica and Vasia land blows before Amethyst's whirling scarf bisects the huge bat and it falls in pieces to the damp and mold strewn floor.

A quick investigation of the bodies strewn around this cave reveals one corpse of interest - a one armed man who still possesses a pearl ring (worth 300gp), a heavy longsword made of adamantine, a hat of disguise and a torn purse holding 56gp.

Knw Local, DC20:
This is the notorious bandit Shaz 'Redshiv' Bilger, suspected of organising dozens of robberies of merchant convoys along the Lost Coast Road. Proof of his demise will net a longstanding bounty in Magnimar.

The revenant's path leads onwards so your follow it through another lower cavern, heaped with bones that have been systematically sucked dry. Three more ghouls lie dead near the exit, more evidence of the fury they faced. A rustling in the bone piles suggests that something may be in hiding there, but whatever it is makes no move to emerge as you move onwards.

The cramped tunnel opens into a vertiginous gulf here, a cathedral-like cavern with a roof arching thirty feet overhead and dropping into a sloshing pool of foamy seawater fifty feet below. A steep stone ledge winds down to these surging depths, its slope glistening with moisture and mold. A stone door stands in the northwestern wall about half-way down the slope and the revenant can be seen in the gloom, heaving it open with a howl of triumph.

"I've found you My Love!" It declares, disappearing from sight. A moment later there is a muted roar, almost drowned out by the surging of the water below.

Of more immediate concern however are the four pallid looking goblins who come scampering up the slick stone. One loses its footing and slides back down the path with a shrill scream as the rest surge towards you!

Everyone except Vasia can act. The ghasts are fifteen feet away along the narrow pathway. It's a DC5 climb check to move along the path. If you don't make a climb check roll DC12 Athletics, failure means you slide to the bottom of the ramp, taking 2d6 damage in the process.

Before they move on, Sabriya pulls the wand out of Melody's bag and taps Morgana on the head with it six times, insisting she has to physically make contact with the paladin's head to get every drop of magical healing out of the wooden device.

The ghasts leap out of the way with expressions of surprise on their faces when Morgana comes sliding down the slope like its some sort of manic fairground ride. Distracted, one of them gets hit in the face by Jenica, although it reels enough that Amethyst's scarf only slices a wafer thin line across its chest.

Morgana gathers speed and hits the bottom of the pathway hard, finding herself face to face with the final ghoul, who seems to be in worse shape than she is! It scrambles up and attempt to bite her but Sabriyya's protective ward halts it!

The two ghouls who can fit on the pathway together both attack Jenica, each landing a blow and threatening her with paralysis!

With a snarl of frustration, Vasia closes her eyes and concentrates, pulling parts of herself back from Jenica.

Full-round action to switch Jenica to incorporeal form again. She'll still be paralyzed from what I can tell, but they shouldn't be able to harm her.

Melody's magic helps Jenica fight off the paralysis as Vasia pulls her into incorporeality. Jenica beheads a ghoul and Morgana crushes the chest of the ghoul at the bottom of the ramp.

The ghouls shrug off Sabriyya's evil eye (Undead are immune to mind affecting) but Melody's biting words seem to cause it physical pain. The two ghouls turn their anger onto Amethyst.
