casting Ghost Sound to try to get people to move out of the way - adding an intimidation check to support it. He will slow down just enough to allow Erix to pass him.
Hmm... the volume Ghost Sound puts out is a bit vaguely worded, but I fear the sound will be swallowed by those of the panicking crowd (sound of twelve men from the slepp, fighting the sound produced by around 30, only some of whom you can currently see), and even if the people closest of you hear it, when they are very near... the sound if of soldiers marching towards the assumed battle, from behind you? Might cause the closest civillians to stop and hesitate, and then be pushed towards you by the people behind them who can't hear your noise over those the crowd itself creates, creating an even worse congestion before you.
On the other hand... the idea itself is sound, and the Intimidate roll to go with it is solid. So let's say the spell will cause the crowd to split around you, so while the route ahead doesn't magically clear you are in no immediate danger of being ran over by panicking people, as long as you stay all together, close to Baran and the spell's focal point.

Phin the Raccoon |

Remember, we were underground when the maelstrom hit. Professor ir'Morain would have reported us lost in a cave collapse within a few days. If you didn't give them any personal contact information then I doubt anyone will think your gone. They would have my family contacts through school record ... and, well, billing."
Phin looked at the young man questioningly, ”Does that mean you still have your library privileges at the University? And is there someone you trust there that can help us with our research of the Tower? I have a feeling that finding out information about the Tower will be difficult unless we have an idea of where to start.” The elf looked serious as she asked her next question, ”Baran, do you think the Professor knew about the Tower when we went there to excavate? And if so, maybe he can help. If he can be trusted, that is.”

As Baran read the story from the paper, Phin felt her blood begin to boil. She got to her feet and began to pace around the office, her fists balled in anger. When he finished, words practically exploded from her, ”Khyber-loving dwarf! Why the pretense? Why come and interview us if he was going to write drivel like that?” Then she threw herself into a chair, seemingly deflated, ”I should have known better than to hope that for once we would get a fair shake.”
Her face was unreadable when she added, ”Maybe we should pay a visit to the dwarf and find out what happened.”
Lharvion (July) 20, 998 YK
With the approach of the Race of Eight Winds, Phin found herself busier than usual with her side hustle at The Forlorn Elk. Excitement over the race meant more people were out and about in taverns, feeding off the communal energy by eating and drinking. This also meant that die-hard fans would request whatever songs they could think of mentioning the creature they supported.
Even though the rogue was sleeping more during the day so that she could work at night. She spent whatever free time she had with the others. It was one of these occasions that they found themselves in the street when a loud commotion broke out ahead of them.
Phin, climb my back, see if you can tell what's happening.
Phin barely hesitated before practically running up Erix’s back. ”Take care not to drop me, Cub.” Standing on Erix’s shoulders, the elf attempted to balance herself while Erix took a firm grip of her feet. "Quit moving! she ordered, "You're making it more difficult." She focused her keen senses on the direction of the ruckus and tried to determine what was happening.

Thank you for bring this back into the game Phin! I wanted to talk about this and it got lost somehow
”Baran, do you think the Professor knew about the Tower when we went there to excavate? And if so, maybe he can help. If he can be trusted, that is.”
"Yes. He knows that 'the Tower' exists. I tried my best to cover its' discovery but he saw through it. He thinks I dropped it. He thinks I dropped it when the spacial shift struck.
"I don't know if we can trust him but I also don't know if we can not tell him. We need help understanding this thing - I mean, is it even ours?! If we can answer yes to that question then we should be able to explain that to him.
"We should have him here. I think we could convince him we are the best people to hold onto it. That we can stewart its' safety and that he can have some access to study it. In particular, you've bonded with it in some strange way. That connection may well be more valuable to its' study than anything. He seems to have a possessive nature - he displays the artifacts in his own office - but he seems intellectually curious. If we talk to him from that direction then maybe we ca keep it.
"What does everyone think?"

Alua Riversong |

"What does everyone think?"
Alua frowned in thought, then turned to Phin. "I think it's Phin's decision, really. She's the one who's bonded with the weapon. Bur more knowledge is probably good, and if he's loathe to let us keep it, I'd like to see him try to take it forcibly."
Erix's voice cut through the din. "Form up and arm up. Alua, Baran, form a wedge on me - there'll be a crowd surge in a second. Phin, climb my back, see if you can tell what's happening. Lupi, in my wake, and if you've got a combat spell to prep, cast it now."
Even as he talked Erix was dragging out his shield and looking for higher ground.
Alua sighed and swung her morningstar into her hand. She then touched Erix's shoulder and asked the spirits to give him sanctuary. She hoped that if the crowed panicked, it would make it harder for them to be overrun. She then called for guidance in the upcoming confusion.
A bit of an odd use of sanctuary, but it might go nicely with Baran's spell. Alua will also spam guidance on as many people as Jussi will allow, in order of Phin, Erix, Baran, Lupi, Alua.

Phin's eyes widened, "The Professor knew about the Tower? That must mean that he read something or had some other type of information that alerted him to its existence."
The elf looked thoughtful, "As much I hate involving someone else in this, I don't think we have much choice. You guys researched for two days in another library and didn't get anywhere. Without guidance, I shudder to think how long it'll take us to learn anything of note about the Tower. We already know that whatever I learn while in the Tower can't be taken back into the real world so we need someone more knowledgable to help."
"That being said," Phin said hesitantly, "I can understand Baran's concern about the Professor wanting to claim the artifact for himself. I'm not willing to give it up because I think that would put it in danger. I can't explain it but I think it's safest with us."
The rogue looked at Baran, "Do you think that you can convince him of that? I find it hard to believe that the other dig site wasn't there for the same reason. If the Professor has it in his possession then it would be more of a target to be stolen."

the Grand Goblin |

Lupi was silent as Baran and Phin were discussing. "Ummm... looks like Professor is our best clue. Maybe he would be happier umm... to help us, if ummmm... we also gave him the bloodstone playing pieces we found?" Lupi did not really know anyone else, who could use ancient treasures as the playing pieces.
Or here is an alternate plan, as the Tower seems more active in Sharn: Let's take Phin to an inn. As soon as we think she is asleep and dreaming, wake her up and ask what she saw. Based on that information move to another inn hopefully closer to the tower. Rinse and repeat, until we get to the tower :). Yeah, I know, I have had better plans...

Phin's eyes widened, "The Professor knew about the Tower? That must mean that he read something or had some other type of information that alerted him to its existence."
Baran shared the notes taken from you reading the dead orc's journal with him. There was no indication he had prior knowledge of anything he learned by reading those.

Kirsdrake |

I like Alua’s Sanctuary plan… combined with Baran’s illusion, those should keep people from running into you and allow you to proceed at only slightly slowed pace. Well done, you two! Anyway, let’s move you just close enough to get some idea what’s happening, then…
With Erix opening the way, enchanted by Alua’s spell that made the crowd unable to run into the scarred veteran, further spooked by Baran’s conjured voices of an army on the march, you made sterad if slow progress towards the intersection. Which turned out to be a chaotic scene of carnage. Caged wagons were overturned in the middle of the road, and armed guards wearing the sigil of House Medani were engaged in a pitched battle with frenzied goblins and hobgoblins, all wearing grey prison uniforms. Bodies of goblins and guards alike were already splayed in the street, their blood running along the cracks between the cobblestones. Several of the prisoners had armed themselves, presumably from weapons previously wielded by dead or dying guards. Further to the left and currently outside your field of view, something much more substantial than a hobgoblin roared in pain and rage, and from the sounds of shattering, exploding wood and tortured screeches of bending a breaking metal, marking its displeasure in no uncertain terms.
Even as you watched, one hobgoblin prisoner (the green dot 2 squares N and 4 W from Erix’s position) bodily threw a Medani guard through the door of a streetside shop before crouching to pick up the fallen guard’s crossbow.
Now, we are on combat rounds. The others are already going at it, so let’s forgo initiatives and allow you to join in as “first” actors in the next round.
Yellow dots are guards in House Medani livery.
Red dots are goblins in prison uniforms, green ones are hobgoblins.

Baran shared the notes taken from you reading the dead orc's journal with him. There was no indication he had prior knowledge of anything he learned by reading those.
Yes, thank you for the clarity. I didn't mask the appearance of the Tower in the notes. I only tried to hide the fact that it was there when we arrived.

Alua Riversong |

Alua took in the madness of the battle with a seasoned eye. She was tempted for a moment to help the guards, but the unknown thing to the left was making so much noise that she felt instinctively that was the largest threat.
"Hurry, keep moving, get clear," she hustled the onlookers that were streaming past her, and she moved closer to the corner. Keeping an eye on the goblins, should they decide that she looked like their next target, stepped forward until she could see around the corner. Taking a quick peek, she tried to assess the danger.
Moving 3 squares north to look left. If that red dot looks like it wants to take a swing, she'll have an action readied to attack first. But only at the first sign of targeted agression.
Also, I only see one yellow dot. Only one guard? Or are there more down. Dead? Alua will need to help any fallen/injured that she sees.

the Grand Goblin |

Lupi recognised one of the hobgoblins as Mokug. He was not the most compassionate of the hobgoblins and he was thrown in prison some months ago. The word on the street he had too many businesses with The Daask.
Hoping Mokug would also recognise Lupi, she shouted in Goblin "Hey Mokug! What's happening?" In case things would get worse, Lupi draw her wand of hold person. She then followed cautiously the others towards the crossroads.

Erix Thorn |

Erix cursed quickly as Alua moved "Stay in formation!" he shouted to the others, moving to follow Alua.
At Lupi's words he hesitated for a second "You know him?" he asked, quietly. 'Great. I don't want to fight Lupi's friends, but I don't want to fight house Medani, either.'
there'll be a slight rotation I think. so at the top it'll be

As with Alua he'll have a readied action to strike back, and Bodyguard ready to go if they get attacked.

Hoping Mokug would also recognise Lupi, she shouted in Goblin "Hey Mokug! What's happening?" In case things would get worse, Lupi draw her wand of hold person. She then followed cautiously the others towards the crossroads.
”What is looks like, runt!” the goblin shouted back in his native tongue, turned quickly around to aim and shoot his looted crossbow at something you couldn’t see. You could hear the meaty thud of the heavy bolt striking flesh and a groan of pain. Mokug answered those with a leering grin, discarded his spent weapon and started running away to the right. ”Prison break! And while the going is good…” he wasted no more breath talking, not since it could be more gainfully employed for moving his feet.

the Grand Goblin |

"They are breaking out from prison, likely have no interest fighting us. I'll try getting them leave.", Lupi informed Erix and others in common. She then shouted to the goblinoids in her native tongue "Follow Mokug! Get out of here! Guards are coming!" Lupi shouted the last sentence a bit reluctantly... It wasn't exactly true, but Lupi hoped it would help the goblinoids to flee the scene more quickly. And the goblinoids were likely not in a position to just wait and see, if Lupi was telling the truth.

Baran 'Elmswright |

Baran will try to stay in formation with Erix. He will look for opportunities to check on anyone - guard, escapee, or passerby - who cannot look after themselves. He will risk an AoO to pull anyone he thinks is saveable around the corner - but, I suspect the roaring thing will become top priority as soon as they turn the corner.
Baran tried his best with the shoving crowd to stay in formation with Erix. As he moved he drew his rapier. He could see the panic on the faces of the crowd and it was nearly impossible to focus with the mad cacophony and that roaring around the corner. And it was paramount to see what that roaring was coming from.
Still, Baran tried to check on some of the fallen guard as they got closer. He yelled towards Erix as to be heard over the crowd, "Priority one has to be 'safety the area', number two 'help the wounded', number three 'check in with our conscience about escaping criminals'! If we're lucky we might accomplish priority one!"

Phin the Raccoon |

Since there isn't anything that would wrap around the corner, we'll keep this simple and not go up as a way around the corner
Once Phin saw what was involved in the commotion, her next thought was to leave the problem to the city of Sharn and let them sort it out. However, it became obvious that the others weren't going to leave it alone which meant she couldn't leave it be.
The rogue resisted the urge to roll her eyes as Baran listed off his priorities of involvement. She always forgot how naive the young were. Where were those to keep her safe when she was alone on the streets of Sharn? But then again, did she really want others to go through what she had? She could honestly say that the answer to that depended on the day. Today, keeping her people safe was her priority.
The elf jumped down from her perch and drew her thornblade and dagger, "Fine. Safety, right, got it." She nudged Erix forward, "Get going then. Unless you're okay with me breaking formation and going first."

Kirsdrake |

Around the corner, a scene of mayhem awaited you. The citizens were doing their best to run away, but were hampered by the panic and their sheer numbers, as people were getting into each other’s way, and not a few who stumbled and fell could do nothing but to curl up and hope they wouldn’t be battered senseless by the many. many feet that ran over them. A few of the goblin and hobgoblin prisoners were hanging back to fight the few Medani guards still up and about, but most were intent on escape – with, perhaps, a little opportunistic looting done on the way, you saw, as one goblin sunk a sword into the back of a fat human who was perhaps slowing his own escape… but then waste a few seconds to seize the man’s purse before continuing his escape.
A towering ettin, his torso and arms riddled with crossbow bolts roared as he laid into the nearest Medani guard, using the body of an elf in the robes of a priest of Olladra, the Sovereign of Feast and Fortune, as a makeshift club. You could see that the poor man’s body was limp, his head partially caved in, presumably from the ettin’s previous blow that hit something hard enough to crush his skull. One of the ettin’s two heads lolled, its expression frozen in a grimace of pain, its neck lanced with a black-feathered bolt.
Big Blue is the ettin, in somewhat worse-for-wear condition.

the Grand Goblin |

As Lupi got a peek around the corner, her hopes of trying to negotiate without battle disappeared. The ettin was roaring in rage and its weapon of choice clearly indicated a preference to kill as many as possible before going down. "We need to stop that!", she shouted pointing at the two-headed beast. She was slightly worried the goblinoids would be too attached to their fellow prisoner and might retaliate, but all the time spent also just increased the blood cost for the House Medani guards and innocent civilians.
Lupi spoke the last words of a Magic Missile spell and ordered the missiles to hit the ettin's chest. Then she moved along with others.

is there still a green in front of Baran? If it has turned to fight we'll need to deal with it.

Phin the Raccoon |

Phin glanced around and quickly assessed her options. Seeing that the monster was engaged by the guards, it seemed distracted enough that she was confident she could get close to it. If she could cut its leg badly enough then it loses its movement and crashes to the ground, making it easier to contain.
The rogue's face is grim as she begins to move, "I'll have to stay out of its reach I guess. Don't let it use me as a club if I fail. I deserve an open casket and a parade if I die keeping others safe."
Her plan is to attack it from behind so that she gets sneak attack damage, hoping to hamstring it or cut its achilles tendon so it goes down
Phin quietly approached the ettin from behind, making sure its attention was solely on the guards. Once she got close enough, she cut deeply with her blade making sure it sliced through crucial tendons and arteries needed for the creature to stay on its feet.

Phin and Erix rushed towards the oversized, two-headed monstrosity, and it looked like they would reach the creature without being noticed… but then Lupi’s darts of force struck the creature’s back, rocking it on its feet. Bellowing in pain, one of the giant-kin’s heads turned to look in the direction the attack had come from and saw the two enemies who were joining forces with the Medani guards already challenging it. With one arm the creature ripped off a wheel from the closest wagon while the other hand – and arm – focused on dealing with the Medani guard on its west side. A wide swing with the dead priest caught the guard and threw the poor man away, to crash against the front of another wagon with a clatter of armor. The man fell down and didn’t immediately make a move to rise to continue the battle. The guard in front of Erix and Phin who had until seconds ago been flanking the hulking beast cried in dismay at the fate of her companion and swung wildly with her axe, but the ettin easily brushed the blade aside with its new makeshift weapon.
Most of the fleeing citizens and escaping prisoners kept right on going, but one of the goblins, seeing Lupi’s magical attack on the one creature that was enabling his own escape stopped and rushed at the elf, dodging past Baran to trust his dagger – taken from another guard who no longer needed it – past Lupi’s defenses, opening a deep wound between two of her ribs that proceeded to stain her clothes red.
Behind the ettin, smaller melees kept on going. Almost out of sight beyond two wagons, a goblin and Medani guard traded blows evenly, while directly on the other side of the two-headed beast, goblin and hobgoblin teamed up against a single guard who was forced to back away towards the ettin, taking a painful wound as he did so.
Alua, meanwhile, hurried into the small store where one of the guards had been tossed into, and found the man lying on the floor, groaning, but her healing touch quickly caused him to rouse.
As he roused, she said, "ir'Brock inquisitive service, here to help. What happened?"
”Oh, sweet Sovereigns, my head… What? Prisoners. Escaping,” he struggled to rise to his feet but his eyes almost rolled over and he fell immediately back down, holding his head in both hands. ”New prison near Wroat,” he groaned, forcing words out one by one. ”Transferring prisoners. From Citadel. Regulars, and a few max security ones. All was going well. And then one of the bastards was out. Somehow. And getting the blasted ettin loose before we could figure out what had happened. Then… this.”
A bit much dialogue for such a short time, but might as well give you the basics of the scene. So, Lupi did good damage but cost any chance for Phin to make a surprise attack next round. Guards are taking more of a beating than they are receiving. And everyone up!

the Grand Goblin |

Lupi winced in pain as goblin's dagger hit her in the ribs. She cursed and instinctively stepped away from the goblin. She would have liked to help Erix and Phin with the ettin, but now had to use her lately gained wand against the goblin. A wave of the wand, a final word and an invisible force tried to freeze the goblin on its place.

Alua was already on her feet and moving. "Go for backup if you can. And medical help. There are a lot of people hurt. We'll help get this under control."
Coming out of the shop, she saw Lupi using the wand on a goblin who'd attacked her. "Yes! Lupi, freeze as many of them as you can!"
The ettin had turned towards her friends, and it was a truly terrifying sight. Even as wounded as it was, the creature was still viciously attacking, and was as strong as an elephant. "A little misfortune, coming your way," Alua muttered, and watched as the nearby spirit of a gnome boy leapt into the fray, tangling itself up with the corpse-weapon the ettin was wielding.
Misfortune - must roll next d20 twice and take the worst roll
Trusting Phin and Erix to take care of it, Alua scrambled under one of the wagons, intent on getting to the injured and bleeding guards on the other side. Heading for #4 via under wagons

Phin the Raccoon |

Phin frowned at Erix as he followed her towards the ettin but she said nothing, partly because she didn't want to draw the monster's attention but also because he was a grown man and capable of making his own decisions.
However, a string of curses erupted from the rogue's mouth as all hell broke loose when the ettin turned in pain and spotted them both. Were the others trying to get them killed? Trapped between a guard, a hobgoblin, a wall, and Erix she pushed Erix towards the wagon hoping that he would get under it and out of the way so that she could get out of the way.
Phin will take as much time as she needs to save herself. She'll slowly work her way around to hopefully get behind/flank the ettin to eventually attack but will just focus on moving until she gets into position. Let me know when you need an attack roll from her; she's moving to roughly where yellow 3 is - assuming that I understood correctly and the ettin turned to face yellow 5.

Erix Thorn |

Erix cursed himself for not having downed his medicine earlier - and thanked his newfound paranoia that had him so heavily outfitted to walk down the street.
With a gulp he downed the medicine, then stepped forward to attempt a punch on the hob aiding the Ettin. An attack the goblin

”Reinforcements should be on the way already,” the guard grunted as he forced himself to his feet. ”The nearest Watch post is only 2 bridges away. As to how many people there happens to be just now… your guess is as good as mine.”
”Go on then, lady. I will be right with you,” he said as he picked up his fallen sword and limped out of the store after Alua.
Lupi pointed her new wand at the goblin who had delayed his own escape to harry her and Baran, but while the goblin’s movements slowed down for a moment he managed to shrug off the magic’s touch and turned to trade blows with Baran, coming definitely the second best in the match as long rapier met short dagger and soon the goblin clutched his shoulder, where the singing bard’s blade had left a painful puncture. Swearing, the prisoner realized staying to fight was not a winning move and suddenly bolted.

Phin saw the ettin raise both the extremely dead priest and the large wagon wheel in either hand, with murder in its two sets of eyes, and promptly dove under the nearest wagon, just in time to avoid the onslaught. The giant’s first swing with its humanoid club missed as the female guard ducked aside, and the ettin ended up splattering its makeshift weapon all over the wall of the nearest building. An overhand chop with the wagon wheel, on the other hand, connected with Erix’s left shoulder and the sheer weight behind the blow almost brought the brawler to his knees. But that created an opening for the guard fighting at his side. The woman stepped forward to close the distance the giant had tried to open to give itself room and buried the head of her axe into the ettin’s side, then wrenching the blade out in a gush of blood. Bellowing in pain, the giant dropped the priest’s legs – the only part of its weapon that remained after its recent miss – and pressed its hand over the freely bleeding wound.
”One more than it’ll go down,” the guard shouted at Erix, pressing her attack.
Behind the ettin, fight was going less well for the forces of law and order. While the guard dueling with the lone goblin was making headway the pair of convicts directly behind the ettin finished off their foe and were now considering their chances – whether to run while running was still good or to join forces with the mighty ettin to strike back at those who had kept them in cages for all too long.

the Grand Goblin |

"... and defenders of the Grand Goblin above all"
Lupi gave a big smile to Baran for his words, "At least someone believes, I am a goblin", she thought. She was disappointed to notice the goblin resisted the wand, but as the little enemy wisely decided to flee, she felt no more a need to attack her "own" kin.
"Yes! Lupi, freeze as many of them as you can!"
Lupi gave another smile to Alua thinking "At least this time I made Alua happy." The ettin was definitely the most dangerous of the opponents, so Lupi turned her wand towards it and said the magic word again. The large creature felt his limbs shortly stiffen... Lupi then jogged a bit towards the large brute.
Using the wand vs. ettin, Will DC 13. Then Lupi goes 15 feet west.

Phin the Raccoon |

The updated combat map looks like Phin can flank the ettin with the other guard so I will assume she gets her additional SA damage. You can remove it if I misunderstood
Phin scrambled out from under the wagon that had saved her from the ettin's attack and sprang to her feet with weapon in hand.
Seeing that the ettin's attention was temporarily fixed on Erix and the guard that had opened a nice gash in its side with their axe, Phin took advantage and made the most of her blade by plunging it deeply into the monster's back.

Baran stabbed back at the goblin before him, attempting to skewer the thigh of the running creature. All he managed was an ugly scar on the side of the leg. Then he himself rushed to a spot but a few steps behind Erix.
"No monstrous foe will stop the ir'Brock Inquisitives from doing what other ot! Let children sleep tight and old marms go forth to buy bread! The gutter is 'our' millhouse!"

Erix Thorn |

Erix ground his teeth together as the pain in his shoulder mixed with the rush of the medicine. Between teeth clenched hard enough to risk splintering he groaned out an affirmation at the guard - but realised the escapee in front of him was keeping him from doing anything useful.

Erix swung again, and the Hobgoblin all but laughed as it easily avoided the blow. Erix grimaced, but took advantage of the sudden opening to kick up. The blow connected, and the hoboglin rose into the air a little as the kick struck home.
"You'll live." spate Erix, moving forward "But you might wish you wouldn't."

Alua Riversong |

Alua scrambled out from under the first wagon, and was about to move under the second, to get to the injured guard. However, Erix was being hampered by a hobgoblin and the monster with a wagon wheel. Jumping to her feet, she swung her morningstar at the hobgoblin, hoping to take his attention and give Erix an opening to finish off the monster.

Lupi should have gone first, but since Phin’s attack is enough to down the ettin let’s instead have her target the next most dangerous foe that will survive the melee, Green 2.
By the way, Phin… you are obviously not carrying the Tower since you have hands free to use your thornblade… what did you do with it? If you mentioned something earlier I must have missed it. Is it stored at the agency office or something?

Phin emerged from the shadows beneath the wagon like a sliver of night, unnoticed until her blade sank hilt-deep in the ettin’s flesh. Overcome by its two last, grave, injuries, the giant toppled over, its heads and shoulders crashing through the window-wall of a nearby grocery shop. And with the ettin down, Erix and Alua could focus their attention to the hobgoblin who had been teaming up with the giant. With Erix’s kick knocking the fight out of the creature, Alua’s mace strike at the back of his neck was more than enough to bring the prisoner down.
And with their giant ally collapsing, clearly never to rise again, the fight went out of the last lingering prisoners. The trio of goblins and the lone standing hobgoblin ran off after the slowest of the fleeing civilians. And less than two minutes later, a rather strong contingent of the Watch rushed to the scene, 10 guards strong and weapons out and ready, going over the dead and the wounded survivors, giving first aid to those who still could be saved, criminals or guards or citizens alike.
You were asked to hang around to be questioned, as were other civilians who had been unable or unwilling to flee far enough. And a few minutes later, once the situation had been sorted to her satisfaction and the remaining surviving prisoners returned to their cages, the commanding officer, one Watch Captain Iyanni Travish, a human of some fame in the City as a straight arrow among the somewhat corrupt Watch, walked over to chat with you.
”I hear that you people did your fair share to bring down that brute,” the Captain said, casting a look behind her where six of her men were slowly and laboriously dragging the fallen ettin’s carcass to a wagon. ”You have my gratitude for that – who knows how many others would have died before we arrived. Now, can you please tell me your version of the events that took place here?”
Battle over for now, feel free to RP all you want, the adventure itself will move to the next phase in a couple of in-game days…

the Grand Goblin |

After the ettin was down Lupi was in no mood to attack the remaining goblinoids. Some of them seemed distantly familiar and now for the first time, Lupi considered her new duties might put her on the opposite side of battle than before.
When the Watch marched into the street, Lupi shortly felt a need to run away to the lower parts of the city, until she remembered why she was here for. She stayed behind the others fearing the Watch might recognise her, but cast her Message spell to be able to communicate with her friends. The Watch Captain seemed too familiar to Lupi, so she tried to remember a bit more of her.
Knowledge(local(Iyanni Travish)): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 Probably nothing unless Iyanni has personally chased Lupi :).

Erix Thorn |

"Good work." Erix nodded to Phin, with an appraising glance at the Ettin.
"Okay Boss, we should probably try to stop anyone bleeding out, I guess. And by we, I mean you." The big man closed with Alua and Barran and spoke more quietly "So. Seems to me these could be good contacts for making Sebastian's life a bit more comfortable. Baran, tell me what to do to help. Otherwise, I reckon you go with the Boss and try to make friends."
He turned to the guard who'd axed the Ettin. "Good work from you as well." he slowly rotated his shoulder and winced a little. "I was a soldier, and I've worked in the Watch. You need anything lifted or carried? I'm happy to help - so long as it doesn't require paperwork. You're on your own for that."
When the captain arrived, Erix made sure not to be nearby. Avoiding volunteering had been both art and survival skill in the army.

Kirsdrake |

Nothing more than what I mentioned already... there aren't that many Captain-ranked officers in the Watch, so their names are pretty much public knowledge to anyone interested. She does have a reputation for being a "good copper" in an organization that does gather in plenty of people who like the power their badge gives them a bit too much, and who provide best protection in the districts where the rich and important people live.

Baran 'Elmswright |

Baran drew near to Erix and looked to Alua for a quick thumbs-up'. He spoke back quietly, "Follow the advice of the healers already here. You know what battle scenes are like. Pressure on heavy bleeds. Don't move anyone unless it's necessary. Let the trained do the difficult stuff."

The king never new what to do as his sons fed him contradicting reports. Even a good person must have truth and fidelity around them or their works will come to naught. Be direct and impress the captain with your reliability." He followed just behind her.
new bardic performance - inspire competence. Alua gets a +2 to diplomacy this round.

Alua Riversong |

The moment the main danger was past, Alua transitiond from battle to triage mode. Moving quickly between the injured and dying, she gave help where it was needed. Calling upon the spirits for help, Alua healed as they flocked to her call, clustering thick around the victims of the battle, innocent and soldier alike.
Powered by the spirits, and her own innate will, Alua saved lives and healed hurts. By the time she was drained of power, the back up had arrived, and were taking care of everybody that was left. Sitting back against a broken wagon wheel, Alua allowed herself to catch her breath, and wiped sweat from her brow, leaving a streak of drying blood there instead.

Alua stepped forward, Baran a comforting presence behind her. "Alua Riversong, of ir'Brock Inquisitive, at your service Captain. We can't speak to how it started, as we were on street, there, around the corner. We heard shouting, and a great rush of people running. Amongst the bystanders were some dressed as prisoners, mostly goblin-folk. With some difficulty we moved forward, to assess the main source of danger."
Alua continued, retelling the events of the last hour with as much detail as she could remember. The battle had been so sudden and unexpected, however, that she found herself stammering, unable to put the details in order. She turned to the others several times, needing them to fill in the blanks. And around her the spirits clustered, thick and luminous, making it difficult to see the living standing behind them.

the Grand Goblin |

Lupi remembered some goblins had mentioned Iyanni as being a fair person and not hitting them unnecessarily as the most of the Watch did. She used her Message spell to Alua whispering from a far "The word on the streets is our captain here is a "good copper". She might be a valuable contact."
And its DC 25 Perception for anyone to hear Lupi's Message.

Captain Travish nodded, hiding well her disappointment that you could not shed more light to the very beginning of the escape. ”I see. Unfortunate, but at least you were here in time to help prevent further casualties,” she said, then stopped as one of the Watch officers jogged over and stopped a few paces away to wait for her pleasure.
”Report,” she said.
”Ma’am! Seven of the Medani guards are down, four of them dead. As for civilians, we have three fatalities, and six wounded – all walking without aid. Of the prisoners, eight of minor interest made it away in the chaos,” the guard said, going straight to the point.
”And as for the Medani’s special guests…?”
”… no sight. One witness claims they were the ones who first got out, and released the others, to create chaos and confusion no doubt,” the guard answered, a grim look on his face.
”Khyber!”

Alua Riversong |

Whatever upset the captain couldn't be good. Alua stepped forward and said, "Perhaps we can be of help? We are an inquisitive agency. If there are dangerous "guests" on the loose, we are well suited to tracking them down. Our prices are very reasonable. We've worked for the watch before - Seargent Viduk can vouch for us."

Baran 'Elmswright |

Baran stood near behind Alua, half-revealed around her left shoulder, "Alua is our lead agent and I have followed her through some very sensitive cases. In a most recent case we assisted a House avoid a destructive attack, an act of wild banditry, and assisted guards during a poisoning attempt by a sinister agency. She is a 'person of good judgement' and, as you can see from her work today, one of compassion to the common soul. The other members are possessed of a rare capability." , Baran paused a moment to look solemnly at the fallen ettin, "With some experience dealing with 'rare' creatures. ir'Brock - trust worthiness , discretion, and effort."
Trying to give enough information to reveal no secrets but those already 'in-the-know' would get what he was talking about by which house and what situation.

”Viduk, eh? That’s a name I know,” Captain Travish grunted, giving the five of you an evaluating look. ”Well, won’t do any harm to tell you – unless we are luckier than I have any reason to expect we are, you are going to see wanted posters all over the city soon enough,” she sighed, then gestured you to follow her to one of the small stores, still empty as the owners were being kept away by the Watch until the scene had been sorted to their satisfaction.
”Right. This here caravan was moving prisoners from the Citadel to House Medani’s new crown jewel of a prison near Wroat. Most of the inmates were barely a cut above the scum we collect off the streets on a daily basis – we were just making room for more in the Citadel. But there were six truly black-souled bastards among them that were deemed too dangerous to keep locked up over here. And those six are now loose. Last time, it took buckets of blood and the personal intervention of Victor Saint-Demain to catch those monsters.”
”Let’s see… first, there’s Scrimshaw – an ivory-skinned albino gargoyle. From what I remember hearing, he might be mute… or just doesn’t have much he feels worth speaking about. Likes to harvest finger bones from his victims and make jewelry out of them.”
”Then there’s Rrregla, aka the Gasping Strangler. A choker who likes to choke people to death, if you can appreciate that bit of grim irony. “
”Next, Durack the Masher. Because he likes to mash people with big, heavy blunt instruments. A bugbear who reputedly ran with the Daask before he got too hot and bloody that those crooks to handle, or so goes the story.
”Fourth, Mange. A shifter seven feet and spare tall, hairy like a dire wolf stuffed in man’s clothes. Like Rrregla, a bit of a blunt instrument, I understand, but a real partygoer if you want to rip people into bloody shreds.”
”Fifth, GRimgraj, a hobgoblin monk of some kind, or some aspiring holy man. Seems his personal brand of religion has a lot to do with getting enough metal piercings in his hands to turn his flesh into what amounts to metal gauntlets and then beating the stuffings out of anyone who looks him the wrong way.”
”And lastly, and a bit of a different breed of trouble, Vrinn. A changeling with a single eye. Not violent like the other five, but able to get pretty much anywhere and then walk out with pretty much anything. Guess he eventually chose a mark rich enough to buy the professionals needed to catch the guy and toss the key to his cell.”
”I fear there will soon be bounties up for these six lovely lads. I would caution you before going after them – the first five are deadly and won’t lose any sleep for adding your lives to their list of victims if you get in their way, and the sixth might just be too slippery an eel to catch without a proper bait – after all, even with one eye, it’s not hard to hide if you can look like anyone you can imagine.”
Wanter posters that appear on the streets starting tomorrow
Knowledge Local DC 15 to know that Victor is Sharn’s local Sherlock Holmes – a master Inquisitive who takes only the juiciest of cases… generally the ones others have tried to solve and have already failed. He’s ingenious, persistent, has a great track record for solving his cases… and a reputation as a very bad winner – he’s too classy to actually gloat, but he does love to make it very clear that he succeeded where others failed. If you get a better roll I may have more to tell, but I will expect someone to get that far at least – and if not, the Captain may share you that much.
Also, there are more to be learned of all the six prisoners, but the Captain doesn’t carry an encyclopedia with her so you’ll have to do legwork on the streets and make more Knowledge Local (or related) checks.
