As far as I know magic weapon can't be used on unarmed strikes, unfortunately. I suppose Corso could use it on Tia's sling instead, though I'm not sure she'll be using it very much.
I don't see any reason not to allow it for unarmed strikes given your class and usual mode of attacks. I can't see how that would mess up any part of the game different than casting it on a melee weapon.

Assuming it is possible to tell the difference: did the kobold drop its spear because it messed up its attack that badly, or is it supposed to be a gesture of surrender?
The attack by the kobold was a critical failure. So it was more ineptitude than surrender, though the same minion is looking pretty doubtful about staying in the fight.
We're not waiting for me, are we? The kobold leader goes again before Tia does, after all.
