Yaziyah "Speaks For The Dead"
"Southern wall of the lower level..." Yaziyah mutters to herself as she leans over the edge to look down. "Quite an undertaking, digging this labyrinth under their manor. I guess it was done over many generations, or they used powerful magic." The Shoanti looks pensive for a moment, then turns back to the group.
"I will stand watch while you play."
Aru Wandering-Hand
"No, Aru can only perceive things through my own senses." He then considers the idea of his cards talking. "Also, do you feel you can trust the cards? I'd assume that, if there is something innately dishonest, it would be a pack of cards."
"Aside from that, knowing each other cards is not that much of a big deal. You need to be mischievous and smart."
GM Litejedi
The party stops on the landing for a few minutes to get oriented, and then sends the insect scouts out to do their work. In the interest of comfort, the party then descends more than 200 feet down the spiral staircase and prepares to wait in the entrance of the large cavern and play a card game.
You can assume all hour buffs are up, but no 10 minute per level or minute buffs are up, since you don’t know how long the scouts will take. Or if you want to be fair - just assume no buffs are up. Please decide fairly for your own Pc - if you have hour buffs up, some of the duration will expire by the time the scouts return, and there’s a minor chance they will expire by the end of the labyrinth (but probably not).
The air in this vast grotto is cool. An iron-framed flight of spiral stairs winds up through a hole in the ceiling in the northwest section of the room from the top of a semicircular ledge. The ledge winds down along the cavern’s inner wall to a series of rope bridges that descend even lower from ledge to ledge. The upper ledge is breathtaking and strangely beautiful—a tableau of all manner of odd-colored fungi, lichens, and molds. The fungi have been cultivated, shaped into symmetrical patterns normally not seen in nature, transforming the ledge into a sort of underground fungal garden. Here and there, f lickering torches burn in sconces above the fungi, while from somewhere in the darkness below comes the soft splash of water against an unseen shore.
It looks like this is a natural cave and the Arkona’s built the palace on top of it. At the point where the stairs lead up to the atrium above, the ledge is a 100-foot drop to the water of the pool chamber below. The ledge surrounding the cave slopes downward to the southwest corner of the chamber, where it’s only a 50foot drop to the water below. The rope bridge from here descends to a ledge and some other areas near the pool, below. The party knows that the secret door to the actual labyrinth.

In the darkness on the far side of the cavern to the south, there is a slight shimmer to the light.
Four humanoid-ish skeletons that seem to be animated not by necromancy, but instead with some odd preservative magic, slip out from around a dark corner. They’re obviously invisible. They start moving quietly towards the party, seemingly levitating just off-the-ground. Despite wearing chain armor, there is barely any sound. They seem intent on attacking, and are obviously thinking they’ll take the party by surprise.
Majenko whispers to everyone, ”Is see smelly-tons coming from fungus like over there. What do we do, Vera? They are invisible!”

"I will stand watch while you play."
With a nod, The Gray Maiden moves opposite of Yaziyah to also stand guard while others are distracted by unimportant children games with the cards.
Silent but observant through the previous exchanges, The Gray assumes her position in the group and continues to scan the shadowy expanse of the cavern for trouble. Her eyes narrow as Majenko whispers of invisible threats lurking amidst the fungal flora. As Aru begins to ask Vera about, she adds "Can any of you make them visible? I am unable to see them."
Vera Esmeranda
Vera takes ahold of the book Aru offers and she sees what Majenko must see--some invisible creatures.
"Looks like our first test. I can make them visible, but they sure won't like it. Get ready!"
She conjures a burst of glitter over the cluster of likely foes!

Everyone can see the skeletons of humanoid creatures that seemed to have muscles - but the muscles have largely been replaced by strange plant matter that has sept into the bones as well. Attack: 1d20 + 18 - 3 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 18 - 3 - 1 = 23
Damage: 2d4 + 11 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 11 + 9 - 1 = 24
Attack: 1d20 + 18 - 3 - 1 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 18 - 3 - 1 - 5 = 23
Damage: 2d4 + 11 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 11 + 9 - 1 = 21
5 foot step, next turn with another 5 foot step I think we can set up a flank.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu
Seeing Yazi suffering, Magda shifts her chant to slip in warm fires in the hearth and freshly baked bread.
standard action to move ward of the city to Yazi, so +5 vs poison., move to keep chanting to maintain fortune on the gray, and don't THINK battle spirit requires a standard each round, so maintaining it.
Gray Maiden
The Gray Maiden keeps up her attack, bolstered by Magda's battle spirit. She ignores the burning in her lungs and swings her longsword twice more at the large creature before raising her aegis.
Attack Longsword, Fortune, Fatigued, Battle Spirit: 1d20 + 16 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 16 - 1 = 25

TGM Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 12
TGM Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 15
Yazi and TGM hit twice, and nearly defeats the fungal monster here. With a flick of her wrist, Vera finishes it off with another round of magic missiles. 3 Wand Charges Used.
Yazi Save, antitoxin, ward: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 2 + 5 + 5 = 34
TGM Save: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 2 = 17 1d2 ⇒ 1
TGM takes 1 more Con Damage = 5 total, Yazi takes 0 more con damage = 5 total, Magda has 2 and Marcus has 1.
The remaining Janni with Marcus just attacks Marcus after he misses, swinging with his scimitar.
scimitar attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31
scimitar damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
scimitar confirm: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29
scimitar damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
scimitar iterative: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
scimitar damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
The last fungal janni manages to hurt Marcus, with a vicious slice across his chest. 24-3=21 damage to Marcus.

Everyone is Up!
Aru Wandering-Hand
"At once!" Aru takes Marcus' place, trying to grab the enemy's arm and setting up for Marcus to flank.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Yaziyah "Speaks For The Dead"
As she could not fly like Aru, Yaziyah takes another step back from the roiling poisonous cloud, praying for restored vigour as she tries to see what was happening on the other side.
Lesser Restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Yaziyah is no longer Fatigued.
Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Mags isn't sure if the gray isn't going to charge through the poison fog, so she keeps up her words from the city to help her defeat its enemies. Poison flying fungus bones is a prime example of enemies of the city.
heal to treat poison: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Since chanting requires breathing, Mags herself is not so foolish to dash through the fog. Anyway someone dear to her is hurting. The half orc tries to help Yazi resist the last of her poison.
I have no idea personally how to treat inhaled poison with basic first aid, but it says it is only a standard action, and should provide +4 to her check
Marcus the Dog
Marcus takes a 5 foot step to get the flank with Aru and continues to cut at the hovering creature!
Attack (PA, strength damage, flank, assist): 1d20 + 18 - 3 - 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 18 - 3 - 1 + 2 + 2 = 30 Subtract 2 from this attack if Aru's nat 1 on aid counts as a failure

Crit Damage: 2d4 + 11 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 11 + 9 - 1 = 25
GM Litejedi
The Gray Maiden drops her longsword, and her shield and retrieves her bow - a common sight of gray maidens in the city which triggers odd memories - nocks an arrow with a black feather fletching, and fires at the enemy across the way.
composite longbow, fatigue, battle spirit, in melee: 1d20 + 12 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 12 - 1 + 2 = 16
composite longbow, fatigue, battle spirit, in melee: 1d20 + 12 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 12 - 1 + 2 = 28
damage, battle spirit, fatigue: 1d8 + 3 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 - 1 = 7
Vera joins and follows up with a magic missile charge.

Yazi Save, antitoxin, ward: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 8 - 2 + 5 + 5 = 35
TGM Save: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 7 - 2 + 4 = 19
Yazi is no longer poisoned, and TGM makes her save due to Magda’s help.
scimitar attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21
scimitar damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

scimitar attack, confirm: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
scimitar damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Unless I’m mistaken this is a crit on Marcus for 24-3=21.
Fun Guys - Round 7 - Baddies/Everyone Else
Everyone is Up!
Aru Wandering-Hand
Aru keeps trying to coordinate with Marcus. Still learning.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 Aru gives +3 with his aid btw
Marcus the Dog
Marcus weathers the blow as best as a member of this group could, and looks to return in kind!
Attack (PA, strength damage, flank, assist): 1d20 + 18 - 3 - 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 18 - 3 - 1 + 2 + 3 = 30

Magda "Magpie" Vasiliu
Mags sends her city's protection into the Gray, for both the Gray and her friend inside her.
Ward of the city transfers to TGM, so +5 vs poison, she'll keep her chant going as well, so fortune will remain
GM Litejedi
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
1d20 + 7 - 2 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 2 + 5 = 26
TGM makes her save, Vera wiggles her wand, and the last odd enemy dies. The only sounds in the cavern are the dripping of water and the sloshing of the tidal river in the cavern below.
Combat over, I think 4 wand charges of Vera used.
Yaziyah "Speaks For The Dead"
"Well," says Yaziyah weakly, but doesn't really follow that up with anything. She squints through the poisonous cloud. "You alright, Marcus?" Turning to the others, she asks. "How long until this poison dissipates? And did anyone else breather it in and feels sick?"
