”You seem apprehensive about you to your son losing your jobs and your status. Maybe even being kidnapped. Do you think the Society would let that happen? Ask the prisoner I just bought freedom for how the Society treats its friends. That’s us being nice. Trust me, no one wants to see the full power of the Society brought down on them! No one could stand against our might. Our spellcasters alone can rend the strands of time and space!”

Erwyn listens intently to all who speak waiting for everyone to have their chance, noting the Oread who keeps his mouth quiet and Guaril who looks anxious, but also does not speak.
M'lady your words are provocative, but the emotion you convey does not match the conviction of your words. Your friends on the other hand are rather convincing even with their more limited speech.
You sir, with the golden armor, are quite right, the information around here is funneled through the Aspis Consortium and if you and they are rivals, then I need to trust what little I have managed to gather without their influence and believe that maybe you are not the harmful invasive species I was afraid of.
Flavias successfully convinced him that the Pathfinder Society can make a viable ally.
And you my tiefling friend, while I believe you to be exaggerating the might of your society a bit, you do have a point. Even if my son were to be captured, you have proven yourselves capable of rescuing those captured by the Aspis whom are on your side. I believe that he and I will be safe betraying the Consortium if it is for an alliance with your people.
Molos successfully convinced him that the problems leaving the Aspis may cause for him and his family can be mitigated by the Pathfinder Society.
Lastly, the old gruff one here, while you say little, it tells me you understand the ways of a good druid listening to the winds and following the best options available, and the winds tell me my current arrangement is not good for the balance of nature even if it helps me locally and that your Society understands the importance of that balance more than the Aspsis Consortium ever could.
Agirran successfully convinced him that the Aspis Consortium causes more harm than their lucrative trade agreement is worth, and working with the Pathfinder Society will not cause the same blatant disrespect for nature.
As a sign of our new partnership I would like to offer you all a few small tokens of appreciation.Erwyn walks over to a trunk, opens it up, and pulls out a few items he hands to the group. An Alluring Golden Apple to distract our enemies, an oil of align weapon (good) to help remove the evil from our path, and a very special pearl of power (1st level) as he says this he hands over a polished amber nodule that contains an ancient centipede to give you power through our bond with nature.
After this Erwyn and Guaril work with everyone to make similar arrangements to those made with Ungala to begin the blockade simultaneously on a signal.
With the talks complete and arrangements made with both sides of the blockade Guaril encourages your group to leave quickly so that the arrangements can be reported to the superiors in the Society so the signal can be sent and the blockade begun, the more quickly the better to minimize the Aspis chance to retaliate properly. With Consortium agents on high alert the harbor will be too perilous, instead you must flee either on foot or take a boat up the Vanji River to rendezvous with Fola and her retainers, the choice is up to the group.
Once choosing a path it will also be possible to try to create a false trail with survival to help send the Aspis in the wrong direction as you escape.

"I only move as fast as a dwarf, but I'm not entirely comfortable on a boat either. I will go with whatever choice the group decides on."

Agirran the Fury |
Agirran successfully convinced him that the Aspis Consortium causes more harm than their lucrative trade agreement is worth, and working with the Pathfinder Society will not cause the same blatant disrespect for nature. That's funny, I was just trying to scare idiot with the idea that the Society might be even more brutal. ;)
"I only move as fast as a dwarf, but I'm not entirely comfortable on a boat either. I will go with whatever choice the group decides on."
"Don't worry about that, Rocky. We might need a second anchor." Agirran laughs and slaps the oread on the shoulder (and tries not to publicly wince afterward).
Yes. the pirate, water wizard votes for the boat.

As the team sails up the Vanji River with Agirran at the helm, things seems reasonably uneventful for a time, until Catushlara cries out noticing a trap buoyed in the water. Her warning though comes too late and the momentum of the boat can't be redirected quickly enough.
Profession(Sailor) Agirran: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Try as he might with his training Agirran crashes directly into the trap and gets the boat frozen in the water.

Before anyone even knows what is going on a large snake rises from the water on one side of the boat and a similarly large four legged scaled beast rises from the water on the other side.
After a fraction of a moment passes the team realize they are under attack, but not quickly enough to act before the ambush truly begins.

Agirran the Fury |
Wow, what a trap option this boat encounter is going to turn out to be. An optimized high-level archer that can drop at least one of us each round and no easy way to get to him.
Unless someone has a save or lose effect we can throw at the archer, I suspect that is going to be a quick TPK.
Yeah, well he's got to find us first.
I guess he couldn't tell I was the wizard because of my lack of pointy hat.
Agirran crawls to the railing for added cover and casts spell. An obscuring mist rises over the back half of the craft. He burns his arcane bond. Crank that theme song! ;)
So beyond not being scene, cover from the ship's railing, and being prone Agirran should be okay AC-wise. Sorry, I couldn't get any closer to the front to cover others. You'll have to make your way back here.
GM Zephyre |
Molos are you staying prone and crawling into the cloud or standing up and taking a 5' step?
Quarrion d'Schist |
Quarrion says a quick prayer filling him with luck. He then strikes at the snake twice, first with his pick then with his shield.
Using my last point of fervor to cast divine favor as a swift action (which doesn't provoke) then using two-weapon fighting/improved shield bash. Shield damage die increased due to sacred weapon.

Quarrion then steps back to put the mast of the ship between him and the archer.

CMB Grab: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
Yet, somehow it fails to pull her in.
Thinking it safe Catushlara begins to cast her spell, but quickly realizes her mistake as the creature lashes out again.

damage: 1d4 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
CMB Grab: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
Upon being grabbed and pulled in by the creature she can feel her bones crushing under the strength of it's coils.
constrict: 1d4 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Before she can even finish her spell Catushlara drops dead in the creatures grasp.
As Agirran puts up a vision distorting barrier to protect the remainder of the team from the archer the huntsman can be heard calling out. Aaah clever of you, but that will not protect you from Netto.
Quarrion casts his spell faster than the snake can react and hits it solidly with his heavy pick, but is unable to land a blow with his shield.
The creature still in the water can be felt ramming into the side of the boat, but the different in size between the two is to great to even rattle anyone on board.
With no target he can see, but feeling confident in how things have gone so far the archer moves closer to the boat seemingly effortlessly as he walks on top of the swampy bog and river.
The snake drops the lifeless body it carried only for a moment and moves to strike the rock person who just struck it.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
But again the creature can not get it's teeth in to his stone exterior.

Agirran would have to get to his feet, and clear the mist to even have a chance of targeting anything it first.
What's the ship's freeboard?
Agirran casts shield and rises to his feet.
GM Zephyre |
I am going to say the water is 10 feet below the railing of the lowest section of the boat and then each next section is 5 feet higher. Not sure how accurate that is, but that is the concept I have been working with for the actions of the critters. (If it was lower the croc would get on board and higher definitely doesnt make sense for being a river boat type.) I will put the next actual turn out Monday morning if not earlier, I am not at a computer to do it now.
