Kolo the Swashbuckler
Kolo Speaks to the receptionist "Good day I am Lord Avis Dimitrov, and I have a sister who suffers from an affliction of the mind. This assylum was recommended to me by an assorciate, and I'd like to see if this place would be a suitable location for her treatment
Bluff: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
"I would love to learn more about your fascilities and methods, as I here this is a fine establishment"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Sleet Storm
"Oh, I'm sorry m'lord.....
....the clerk quickly puts down his paperwork and snaps to attention...
I will escort you to Lord Belodia immediately, I'm sure you will find that the treatment and care we offer to our patients is second to none.
...stepping out behind his desk, he brushes clean his uniform and gestures for the party to follow him.
The clerk leads the party to G-3(Alienists office), to meet Lord Belodia, the Chief Alienist.
Sleet Storm
The cozy room is furnished in dark polished wood. A bookshelf holds a score of leather- bound tomes, and a worn leather chair sits behind a letter-strewn desk. Two wooden doors flank the room's primary entrance.
The clerk introduces Kolo as Lord Dimitrov and the others as his entourage...
"Lord Belodia, these gentlemen are interested in our facilities..."
.....Lord Nivolo Belodia, whose mother and grandfather both held the same position before him, is the current alienist .Belodia is corpulent and balding. His eyes are fish-like, and he rarely blinks. He's intelligent, but his work irritates him.
"Well, how can I help you gentlemen?"
Kolo the Swashbuckler
Kolo looks over Belodia, and smiles. "My Sister Elia is afflicted of a mental disturbance, the nature of which I am uncertain. She is often ranting and raving at all hours of the night. I was at a loss of what to do with her, when an associate told me of this fascility. I would like to tour it and learn of some of your, practices in order to determine if this would be the right place for my dear sister."
Kolo offers his hand to Belodia "What can you tell me about this place?
Sleet Storm
"This asylum has been under my families supervision for several generations, so naturally I can assure you that we have experience enough to deal with all and any cases of mental disturbances. We have some truly tortured souls here, currently 10 patints in all, and I consider it my lifes purpose to guide them on their long way to recovery.........if recovery is a possibility of course.
Sleet Storm
....Lord Belodia raises an eyebrow at at Jakes question....
"Absolutely impossible. You must understand that this building was a prison before my family aquired it and turned it into an asylum. The whole architecture of this building is aimed at providing a maximum of security, there is only one way to enter or leave this building and that is the main entrance.Aside from that we can count on the vigilance of our formidably schooled personel.
Kolo the Swashbuckler
"Formerly a prison you say? Well that is certainly going to be secure, but will it be comfortable?", Kolo smiles at Daromel, "I'd be willing to pay extra for...special arangements for my sister if the accomodations are a bit spartan."
Trying to curry favor with Belodia
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
I think the whole inuendo thing got rolled into bluff right?, if I want to get across on the down low that I might be interested in some 'special' treatments and services?
Bluff: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34
Daromel
Sorry for going silent, the holiday week has been pretty hectic with family and travel.
Daromel glanced around the sanitarium as he was led with Kolo to the office of Nivolo. He continued his observances in the office as well, desperate to find some trace evidence of foul play or connection to the cultists, perhaps a symbol of Lissala in the office.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
He listened to Kolo and Nivolo talk. He figured that the adviser would best be silent until called upon. He tried to analyze Nivolo's mannerisms and speaking, to try and get a read on what he may be hiding. Was he being honest about the only way in or out? If he could tell if he was lying, that would be proof of some kind of secret passage.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
There was one comment that caught Daromel's attention though. "Formidably schooled, you say? Where might they have studied? I'd like to speak to a few of your physicians if that could be arranged?" A reasonable request of any truly educated doctor, if there were real doctors here. If this were actually a front for the cult, Daromel assumed, the Chief Alienist would probably hem and haw about how none could be freed up at the moment or some such nonsense.
Sleet Storm
OK,so lets see.
Belodia doesn't seem to quite catch Kolo's meaning about the special arrangements he's talking about but seems open to his demands...
Ahem..sure ,whatever you wish.
....seeing Jake trying to leave, he exclaims :
Excuse me Sir but we don't usually allow visitors in the hallway, but I guess we can make an exception for you. Of course I cannot allow weapons in the dorm so I have to ask you to leave them here.
Belodia asks you to leave your weapons, spell component pouches and holy symbols in the office before the group can enter the dorm.
Belodia seems honest as far as Daromel can tell, and the office is clean.(Also Belodia is the only Doctor ,the rest of the staff are just orderlies.)
I was talking about our guards of course, they are selected out of many applicants and schooled right here by myself. That should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of their training
Jake the Brawler
"Now that we've disarmed, could you show us the other rooms? I think... atmosphere... is important."
Jake wants to note the locations of all the rooms in-character, and of course will be making Perception checks to see if there's anything suspicious, or a way in or out.
Sleet Storm
I'm sorry but I am too busy to give you a tour at the moment, I trust that you can inspect the dorm on your own. If you have any further questions I will be here.
Belodia sends for an orderly to open the door to the dorm for the group. The hallways of the dorm are clean and completely empty. There are 16 cell doors ,all closed.Faint noises and voices are coming out of some of the cells ,but most sounds like incoherent mumbling.
As they walk the hallway ,one of the inmates calls out to them:
Hey ,....Visitors....
the voice seems to come out of the third cell to the right.
Daromel
Daromel puts a hand on Jake's shoulder. "Your dedication to the job is commendable, but there are bars on these cells for a reason, my friend." That said, Daromel examined the resident of the cell, "Your ears are quite sharp. You are correct, we are not orderlies. Rather we are visitors, potential patrons of this establishment. It depends on how this 'tour' goes. Do you have anything to say of your treatment, here?"
Sleet Storm
A pallid young man is lying on the floor in a straight-jacket. Where his eyes should be is only blank flesh, covered in scabs and
scars.
You gotta be kidding me.My treatment here? Look at me and tell me what you think about my treatment.I have been here since I was a child, they say I'm crazy ...buts that just because I know things.Things they don't want to hear.Trust me you don't know what you are getting involved with.
Jake the Brawler
Oh right. I think there's no orderlies either.
"You poor fellow. What is your name?"
Jake wonders about the rules on holy symbols and spell components. Surely a priest could heal the man's eyes, and maybe his madness, if indeed it is. And then he perks up as an idea comes to mind.
(Whispering to Daromel) "Can you cast Detect Magic as you are now? On this fellow?"
Daromel
Daromel nods, and lowers his voice, "Hmm, yes. It requires no material component. As to the previous question, I'm quite sure magic can heal madness, but none I have access to, I'm afraid."
Continuing to speak in a low whisper, Daromel incants Detect Magic on the cell where their friend with the eye scabs is.
Kolo the Swashbuckler
Kolo looks over the cell in general and the hallway for any signs of the sort of behaviors and treatment of the prisoners.
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Kolo whispers to Daromel, "Does it look like his eyes were removed, or does that look like some sort of blight to you? I dont know of such things, but that seems horrific if they removed them."[\b]
Speaking to the inmate "What is it that you know young fellow? Why have the locked up such a fine young man as yourself
diplomacy: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
Sleet Storm
Daromel notes nothing magical about the man or his cell. The cell seems to be in bad condition ,dirty and clearly substandard, nothing like the praise that Belodia gave to the group about his institution would promise.
"It was one of the orderlies that stole my eyesight,I don't know what happened ,but I do know that some of them are....not what they seem to be."
"They hold me here,to make sure I don't uncover their plots and schemes, you are not the first to come here and talk to me in recent months,I spoke with a woman with a honeyed voice a few weeks ago and told her everything I know. She promised to help me get free of my home so I could be with my parents but she never came back."
"If you can help me to get out of here I promise to tell you everything I know, everything I told her."
Daromel
Board ate my post :(
Here's attempt number 2! Should I be rolling a knowledge check of some kind to figure out what exactly happened with his eyes?
Daromel focused on their new friend with the eye scabs. He racked his brain to think of what might be responsible for such a treatment. Keeping his voice low, "Charito was the name of the agent who was sent here before us. It seems we are on the right track. We must find out what this man knows. I can get him out of the cell with relative ease, Knock has no material component. Getting him past everyone else will be hard without my pouch. We could just leave, I get my pouch, I cast Invisibility on myself, sneak back in, bust him out, then cast it on him, too. That is unless you can think of something else."
Sleet Storm
Daromel's inspection shows that the prisoners eyes are covered by his own skin for some reason.A careful seperation of the skin tissue should reverse his blindness, but that would require a clean blade and some time.Healing magic could achieve this faster of course .Heal DC 15,1d3 rounds,1d4 damage to the patient.
Daromel where are your skills in your profile I can't find them.
Daromel
In the profile page, there is a spoiler labeled skills. Click show, and all the bonuses for the skills I have will be shown.
Daromel nods, "I agree we must get him out, but I would prefer not to make a scene here, in case someone might be watching this place. Better to do it silently, with no bloodshed."
Jake the Brawler
Sorry I wasn't here, I'm working days now.
"I agree we should rescue this fellow. But not right away. Cultists visit, and we need to ambush and interrogate them. I think we should get our stuff back, and sneak in under invisibility tonight. Maybe while we're preparing we can find someone who can help his eyes."
Jake the Brawler
We should probably fast forward. I'm kind of feeling the loss of a cleric, although it appears that Regeneration is needed to heal his eyes, and no one of our level could cast that. Remove Blindness is not enough.
Sleet Storm
Well, a simple restoration would do the trick as well. You can reattempt heal checks by the way.
Gerhart nods as Kolo tells him what the group has found out, scratching his chin he asks:So whats your plan? The asylum is fairly well guarded as far as I can tell so sneaking in might prove challenging. But if you want to follow this lead you will have to find a way to get this fella out of there.I would love to help but I guess I would be more of a burden than an assistance.
...Gerhart looks out of the window...Mmmmh...almost sundown.
Jake the Brawler
"Given the potential danger, we should stick together on our quick shopping expedition. We need to look a little "low brow" anyway. We could look into some seedy places for potions to heal "recreational illnesses", one of which could be blindness. (Our blind friend couldn't come with us, obviously.) But we need to move fast."
"Alternatively, we need a healing potion, a knife, and a ... gag. Well, buying the latter makes us look all cult-friendly and so on. It's probably easier to get one, or just make one." In a more light-hearted tone. "Anyone know how to make one? Don't worry, we won't think you're weird."
