Azubah stops when he sees ilKhan throw the hammer at the lion head.

This might be it he thinks.

Male Dhampir Gunslinger 1; Init. +5; Senses Perception +5, Darkvision 60 ft., Low-light vision; AC 17 (+3 Dex., +4 Chain shirt); hp 12; Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1 (+4 vs. Illusions)

Gareth makes his way over to the tent dedicated to Jerizhana the Sphinx. Depending on what happens there, he may or may not make his way over to the 'Lovely Madame Masque'. All the while, he keeps an eye out for pickpockets and tries to avoid getting too close to people.

Perception:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Denessrael:
As you enter the tent, you see an aging woman in flowing robes absentmindedly shuffling a deck of cards, talking to herself.

"Can't believe they put me this close to those beasts. Don't they know who I a...Hello," she says with a smile, her voice changing as she hears you come in, becoming deep, sultry, and mysterious. "I see many things. What is it I can do for you?"

Talgil:
The crowd at the zoo is somewhat more sparse than in the midway, but animal handlers move through the crowd, asking for donations. In cages scattered around the area, you see three animated skeletons, a manticore, and a reptilian creature with a sign that says "Baby Dragon." The lizard seems to be agitated, hissing and snapping its jaws.

DC 15 Knowledge (nature) for Talgil:
The reptilian creature is not a dragon, but in fact a monitor lizard.

Azubah and ilKhan:
The mallet flies out of ilKhan's hand and slams into the pole, not quite reaching the lion.

"No, no my good man, not like that," the Ulfen man says as he picks up the mallet and brings it over. "Take a swing at this lever here, and see if you can make the puck hit the lion's head."

Make a strength check if you'd like to try.

Durnim:
"Prepare to be amazed," he says, holding out his hand. "Inside you will see many wonders -- a tattooed man, a sword-swallower, and if you're courageous enough to approach, a fire giant and a choker."

Gareth:
The tent looks empty, and you notice a sign that lists the times when the sphinx is available; the next show isn't for a few hours. As you turn and look towards the stage, a shapely woman in a provocative Varisian costume gown of red and black silk held together by ribbons walks down the runway. She is adorned with all manner of scarves, necklaces, earrings, and other decorative costume pieces, but her face is concealed by a finely crafted silver mask showing only her playful brown eyes. She remains mute, but nods and waves at the crowd.

The crowd is watching her intently, seemingly studying her garb and comparing notes on what she is wearing.

Does this peak your interest? :)

Azubah is disappointed in the way that Ulfen reacts to ilKhan's provocation. I though the Ulfen were violent people. Maybe he is not actually Ulfen. Surely he would have taken such an act as provocation if he were.

With a tinge of disappointment Azubah makes his way to the tent of the harrower. But he makes a mental note of ilKhan's appearance before he turns away. Certainly something will happen in this brute's presence.

When he reaches the harrow-reader's tent he enters just as Denessrael addresses Hajeck.

Female Elf Cleric, 1 Per +10, Init. +1, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref +1, Will +5

Denessrael smiled at the woman. The animals were a bit close. She wrinkled her nose. She could smell them from here. She could also here them.

Could please you tell me what is in store for me? she asked politely

It's always nice to see how others go about the fortune telling business, she thought.

Denessrael will be paying close attention to what the woman does and how she goes about it. We can roleplay it out, or we can do die rolls. Dennie has Perception +10 and the profession Fortune Teller +7. If die rolls are needed they would be 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 for perception and 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 for fortune telling.

A surge seems to rise up from Gareth's feet, running all the way through him until it detonates in his brain. Residual tingles seem to crawl throughout his spine. His eyes drink in the beautiful woman's appearance as she moves across her stage.

'There were strong women in the monastery, but none so fine,' he catches himself thinking.

Gareth lowers his face, hopefully before anyone can get too close a look at them, but tries to keep the beautiful woman in sight.

'I'll not harm her, and there's no harm in looking,' he tells himself. 'Just to remember her, her beauty, I mean, for when I'm alone in the wilderness again. A thing of beauty is a great treasure.'

And another Perception check to keep an eye out for pickpockets: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18. Also: yes, I am very interested in beautiful women, and so is Gareth. ;)

ilKhan, with no look of contrition or embarrassment at not understanding so simple a game, accepts the mallet from the Ulfen. Grabbing the worn wooden handle with both hands, ilKhan swings at the lever with all his might.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 Adding +3 for Power Attack but not Rage

Azubah and Denny:
I can't say that my fortune teller skills are very good, so we'll just say that both of you (with your decent intelligence and wisdom) can tell that, while she makes a lot of claims that might convince people of her abilities, it's pretty clear that she has little to no magical capabilities. She uses the cards, which she calls a Harrow deck, to make vague predictions about your lives.

Gareth:
After about a minute of flirting with and posing for the crowd, the woman (you'd guess at this point that she is Madame Masque) saunters to the mirrored box, steps inside, and closes it behind her. After a flourish from the barker, the cabinet is opened to reveal three different Madame Masques. Each figure walks down a different runway. Each one wears an entirely different costume from the original. The crowd is calling out pieces of jewelery, items of clothing, and flowers, seemingly trying to guess which item belonged to the original Madame Masque.

Make a Perception check.

ilKhan:
The puck soars with blazing speed up to the top of the pole and hits the lion. The beast lets out a thundering roar which can be heard across the entire carnival. People turn and look in that direction, shocked by the sound.

"Well, by the gods," the Ulfen man says with true amazement. He shakes he head to clear it, and smiles once more. "Well, ladies and gentlemen, I think we've found our 'King of the Carnival'!"

He hands ilKhan a paper crown which reads "King of the Carnival."

If you choose to wear it, the crown grants you a 50% discount on admission to big top performances and the sideshow.

The barbarian watches as the puck shoots up the pole and a hint of a smile creeps across his face at the spectacle. The noise and the attention of the crowd seems to make the barbarian uneasy as the Ulfen man hands ilKhan the crown. Staring at the paper bobble, ilKhan accepts it and puts it on his head as if he's unsure where it goes. After a moment of positioning it, the barbarian continues on, mindful of those who get too close.

Durnim:
As you enter the tent, you see a number of strange people and creatures all around. Your eyes fix on an incredibly tall humanoid with fiery red hair and chains around his wrists. The man next to him is calling people over to see the fire giant.

DC 15 Knowledge (local) for Durnim:
The humanoid is not a fire giant, but rather an extraordinarily large Ulfen man.

ilKhan:
The crowd parts as you walk by, still awed and a bit afraid of you after your performance.

Gareth:
You notice a small earring on the top of the left ear of one of the women, its blue jewel catching your eye. You remember that jewel distinctly from the original woman.

The sight of the big man spurs his sense of caution and he does his best to smile. "Congratulations" he says while looking up at ilKhan's crown. The winning hammer blow might just have met the Ulfen's head as the base of the pole.

Gareth:
The two other women instantly vanish. The woman remaining walks back to the mirrored cabinet, enters, and then returns with the original Madame Masque. They walk toward you, compare their two earrings, and the crowd cheers. The original woman tosses you a small bag of coins, they bow, and exit off the stage.

Out of the corner of your eye, you see something crawling on the ground away from you. When you turn around, you see a large lizard crawling to the center of the midway.

"The baby dragon is loose!" you hear someone scream.

Durnim:
The choker also seems quite real to you, and you do not detect anything with Detect Evil.

Suddenly, you hear a scream from outside the tent, back in the direction of the midway.

Talgil:
"No, my good man. But it takes much to be able to acquire and keep these amazing creatures."

While looking around at the other creatures in the room, you hear a cage swing open and a a woman scream. You turn just quickly enough to see the baby dragon crawling from the tent.
