Katrina thanked Zellara for the reading unsure if she believed it or not but either way spent time considering it, remaining quiet as the group left the house folding her hands in front of herself quietly
It wasn't until Cassiel spoke that she would glance at the rest of the group for more than a few seconds and finally speak. "If you are comfortable speaking about it, then I would like to hear about it."

alsoBoris |

Velius, please give me a stealth check if you want to be quiet. I I have updated the map with the placement of your characters and a grid. The map can be found here, in my tag, and on the campaign Info tab.
Velius, as you start to creak around the corner, you find a slipper boardwalk that clings to the side of this fishery, help together by barnacle-thick pilings that have been worn halfway through their thickness at the waterline. As you come up to the first window, you find it covered hap-haphazardly with old boards to keep anyone from peeking in.

Cassiel Hawke |

Cassiel looks down at the dirt. "I... well, I meant to tell you earlier, but when Zellara arrived, I didn't want to interrupt her."
He looks up at the team and clears his throat. "How do I put this... Lamm's been a thorn in the Korvosan Guard's side for a very long time. Every time the Guard tried to catch him, he's canny enough to slip away once more."
"I used to be a Guardsman--and I was one of the few who were more concerned with actually fighting crime in this city instead of keeping order. I was more or less the only Guardsman willing to focus on finally catching Lamm." His voice takes on a tired tone. "A local shopkeeper asked me to help her capture Lamm... see, he kidnapped and murdered her son." He winces at the memory. "Like Zellara's plight..."
"We... we ended up growing closer than professionalism allowed. It wasn't just a job anymore--it became personal for me." Cassiel's hands clench into fists, but his voice never rises in volume.
He trails off, his voice finally failing him. He looks down into the dirt again.

Emanuel Gaskel |

Emanuel steps up to Cassiel and snaps his fingers under the larger man's nose.
I'm sorry for what happened but we need your mind on the tsk at hand or there will be no justice for anyone
he steps away and looks around, scanning the area, more to avoid looking at Cassiel than to look for threats.
look, after today we can commiserate, we need not be alone with our burdens anymore. For now, let's get this done.

Alessio Cooper |

While waiting for Cassiel to begin his account, Alessio takes in the details of Lamm's redoubt. The filth on the outer walls repulses him an he keeps his hands close to himself in order not to be tainted by them. Worse, the smell of rotten fish and mildew seem to have taken up permanent residence in his nostrils. Much as he wants to punish Lamm and drag him through the streets on a leash, Alessio wishes that this confrontation could take place somewhere more hospitable.

![]() |

Katrina nodded her acceptance of Emanuel's words. "Yes, you are correct we should remain focused on the task at hand." She said turning to watch the direction the monk had gone off scouting in placing one of her hands on the hilt of her scimitar as the other pulled around her shield. At least she would be ready when the signal came from their scout.

Cassiel Hawke |

Cassiel fiddles with the hilt of his scimitar before checking the rest of his weapons--his dagger was still there, and the club at his belt was still there as well.
All that was left to do was wait for Velius to return...

Alessio Cooper |

Alessio could not help but feel exposed in this location. Their common enemy may or may not be within the disgusting structure. If he did dwell here it seemed probable that he would have scouts lurking nearby to alert him to threats. The ball was likely in his court. Was he waiting to spring a trap?
Hurry up, Ulfen brute! he thought.

![]() |

Katrina readied her shield In one hand and placed her free hand on her holy symbol whispering a quiet prayer to the dawnflower. "I shall follow your lead." she said softly casting a concerned glance in the direction of Cassiel before moving to step in behind the group. "What is our plan? And who wants to go into the suspicious building first?"

alsoBoris |

As Velius leads the way, everything is fine. However the Moment that Cassiel sets foot on the old dock, the dock starts to creak and groan alarmingly. The dock is also slick with water and river slime, making it difficult to move without falling.
Map update. If anyone wants to move their full speed, it is a dc 10 acrobatics check not to fall.

![]() |

Velius frowns at the noise that the dock makes, mentally shrugging to himself. Feeling the element of surprise might be in jeopardy, he pushes the door open, ready to run inside.
Velius will open the door to see what is going on inside, then he'll decide on a course of action then.

Cassiel Hawke |

Cassiel stops as the boardwalk creaks under his weight.
He shakes his head and follows Velius inside.
Moving at half speed.
"...I just got this odd feeling of deja vu..."

alsoBoris |

Velius grasps the handle of the door and opens it revealing a small office decorated with a wooden desk in one corner of the room, laid out in such a way that the western door cannot open all the way. On the table is heaped a dozen or so slate boards covered with chalk scrawls. In the east of the room a cabinet slouches against the wall, filled with paperwork. However the room is not unoccupied. Behind the desk sits a blond man with a terrible snear on his face.
"I don't recall having an appointment with you!" The man shouts loudly at the monk, brandishing a wand in a menicing manor.

Round 1: Actions
Move Action: Move from M 14 to K 12
Standard Action: Non-lethal attack on Blondie
Hearing the sounds of combat in the fishery, Cassiel moves into the room in time to hear the blonde man mouth off to Velius.
He rolls his eyes and swings the flat end of his scimitar at the man's gut. He wasn't Lamm--he wasn't even worth a quip.

Damage (Non-Lethal): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Cassiel, you have fallen at M 13. You may spend a move action to stand. Velius, did you want to rework your turn since Cassiel won't be joining you as a flanking option?
EDIT: Katrina, you M 13 is no longer a valid option to move to. Would you like to move somewhere else?

Alessio Cooper |

Alessio is close on Katrina's heels when she loses her footing. This brings him to an abrupt stop and he reaches down to help her to stand again.
To his familiar he says "Go spy ahead", and the small bird takes flight toward the doorway to the building.

ROUND I RECAP
"Ha! Tough words from one of Lamm's rejects!" The man spits, moving to the other side of his desk, the man yet again brandishes his wand at the monk. With a sputter the wand produces another sickly green dart, which the blond chucks at Velius, leaving a wide opening for the monk to make an attack.
Velius, meanwhile sensing the opening in the man's movements takes the opportunity to land a solid punch in on the man's nose. A sickening crack fills the room and the man howls in pain. Velius quickly follows up quickly with two jabs to the man's jaw.
The blond man quickly falls down with a loud thud. Outside another thud can be heard as Cassiel tries to make his way into the room, but winds up slipping. Meanwhile Katrina carefully moves along the old boardwalk, stopping to help Cassiel get vertical. As she stops, the old boardwalk starts to creak louder and the sound of wood snapping can clearly be heard. Alessio sends his familiar to scout ahead while he waits for Cassiel to stand up.
Impatient, Emanuel almost dances along the boardwalk, unafraid of slipping and manages to make it to the door, right as Velius knocks out the blond man.
<<ENCOUNTER RESOLVED| XP AWARD: 50 per character>>
-----------
Great job guys! The man wears leather armor, appears to have a light crossbow with 10 bolts, a dagger, a wand , 3 containers of Acid, 3 tanglefoot bags, and a Thunderstone.
There is a door on the east wall and one on the west wall. In order to fully open the west door you will have to move the desk out of the way. Where will you all go next?

Alessio Cooper |

Spellcraft
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Alessio picks up the wand and examines it, fastidiously wiping a drop of the blond man's blood from it onto the latter's hair.
"It produces tiny gouts of acid. This man must be a magician of some sort. Sadly, this weapon is not as readily wielded by me."
When the tanglefoot bags are identified Alessio opines "Those would be most useful in apprehending Lamm and rendering him harmless."

![]() |

Katrina pauses to help the paladin to his feet all too aware of the creaking sounds the floor was making. "Perhaps a more cautious approach for us is advisable." she offers the Paladin before moving to carefully walk into the room and towards the Monk and the unconscious man taking stock of the Monks injuries attempting to discern how much healing to call upon from her goddess.

![]() |

"Acid? That explains the stinging." Velius said showing the wound to Katrina as she looks at him. Velius looks at the fallen man. "He should be out for a while. Best to tie him up and stick him somewhere so he doesn't cause us problems.
Velius will cut a length of rope to securely tie up the blond man. "Whichever way we go, we should block the other door with the desk. It'd give us a warning at least."
"South-Western door first? Cassiel and I will move the desk to block."
Velius is missing 3 hp.

![]() |

Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Katrina gives the acid burn a look over making certain there was nothing further. "I can heal you now if you desire, but I only have a few uses of my clerical abilities."
She can channel energy 5/day and I have 2 spells to sack for a cure light wounds if necessary. Katrina will drop a channel energy if you want or ask her to but for now I'm holding off.

Cassiel Hawke |

Cassiel takes Katrina's hand and stands up, his cheeks beginning to turn red with embarrassment. "Thanks."
He moves to help Velius barricade the door they just came in with the desk, not even giving the unconscious blond man a second thought.
Well, with his physique he could do that by himself if he wanted to.

Emanuel Gaskel |

Alessio, I'm happy enough to make use of the wand.
Emanuel, seeing that the desk is in place, their enemy bound, Velius's wound assumed to be minor and Cassiel's wounded pride having been rubbed, suggests they move on.

![]() |

Not forgetting to gag the man, Velius cuts a strip of cloth to cover the blond man's mouth to ensure that he wouldn't be able to yell out for help if he regained consciousness.
"It should be okay for now. I'll let you know if it starts bothering me." Velius said to Katrina after dabbing the worse of the stinging away with a cloth.
After helping Cassiel to (hopefully) quietly move the desk to block the other door, he cracks open the western door ever so slightly and peers through. If nothing catches his eye he will quietly open it.

alsoBoris |

It takes a little bit of rangling, but after a few moments, Cassiel and Velius are able to move the desk in a position to block the eastern door. As Velius opens up the door to the next room, most of what he sees is a single desk that is in the middle of the room. From his position he is able to see a pile of ratty furs and straw heaped under the table.
