Heh, you're right I missed that about the bard. Thanks for the heads up. By the time I acquire Medium armour proficiency, I should be able to have a Mithril armour to negate the arcane spell failure completely.I'll get Studded Leather than and I'll probably change the Arcane Armor training for Spell Focus (Evocation). I'll get my background up later tonight.

DM Yorick |

If I can find a feat to allow her to use Int instead of Cha for Summoner abilities I'll take it.
I might be biased because one of my favourite third party archetypes fills a huge gap by doing this for the gunslinger, and I in general just prefer playing intelligent characters, but I'm all for this. And given that the Summoner already only gets 2+Int Skill Points, I don't foresee any kind of balancing issues?
If anyone can think of a good reason to disallow this, let me know, either here or via PM, but otherwise yeah, I think it's interesting, and I say go for it.

Rocan |

Ever since he escaped from the dark depths and the crumbling earth and stone underneath his feet, ever since he settled with the humans he has looked and dreamed to reclaim Dammerhall himself. Over the several centuries he has lived on the surface, he has seen many fine dwarven warriors and adventurers go towards Dammerhall, trying to find the way in, but had never seen them return. He came to know all of their names before they went and had written them down in a little book he kept: The Dour Dwarves of Dammerhall. It’s a history and list of all the dwarves that have tried to reach Dammerhall, alas all in vain.
Boreyn is still troubled by the dreams and memories of fleeing with his mother and his older cousins and related family, also with other dwarves racing for the exit, seeing some of them fall before his eyes by shadows, some with wings some just falling down on them. Boreyn was grabbed by one of the shadows by his leg, it was just fortune tht his mother had been able to wrestle him free, the cut and wound had left him with a nasty infection or perhaps even a curse as his wounds seemed to heal very slowly. Though he keeps having nightmares about the flight from Dammerhall, his conviction to search for any hidden secret entrances and lore about Dammerhall and a possible return to the city is unrelenting.
His initial training at Dammerhall as one of the fabled ‘Ore Chanters’, a group of dwarven singers with powerful voices, capable of using the echoes of the cavern systems to its fullest effect, was very beneficial for his knowledge of dwarven heritage and history. Mostly this group of singers used their voices and hymns to remind their fellow brethren of their ancient heritage, telling stories, legends and tales of war through their songs. Most likely he is the last of the ‘Ore Chanters’. He has kept this tradition of singing alive, mostly by singing in a clearing with young dwarves around him, though he keeps telling them: ”For these songs to be truly heard, we’d need the Stone Halls of yore. The castles of humans are fine, but nothing beats the acoustics of the great halls beneath the mountains.” To be still able to provide the children with a fantasy-filled epic story-telling he has taken up the music of small bassdrums, combined with his singing it brings about a similar feeling as it used to be.
Now, after many years, centuries even, Boreyn has done extensive research and thinks he may have found another possible way to enter and reach Dammerhall. A svirfneblin village, called Fasturvalt, is lying at the start of a darker road, through uncharted territory, which may lead back to Dammerhall. Boreyn feels that this is the best chance he has heard of since a long time, the other companies of dwarves and their allies travelled all via the same route and all failed. It was the time to move, which is why he has called upon the finest dwarves he knew, and their friends, to undertake the expedition he was born to do: The Reclamation of Dammerhall.
Yorick here's Boreyn's background story, hopefully it's not too much and you can choose another Flaw from it.

Kurth Silvermug |

Loved Rocan's backstory so I included a brief mention of him in mine.
Kurth had grown up with his great grandfather’s stories about the mighty and wondrous Dammerhall. “Our kin will take it back. Don’t ye doubt it, boy,” he would often say. But there was always a sad look on his face. As if he expected that he himself would never live to see it. Every time an expedition set out, his grandfather would be the first to see them off.
“Curse me old bones,” he’d been known to say. ”If only I had a few more years.” His great grandfather had been injured during the evacuation. And like many of the survivors, lived with constant pain that no magic could remedy.
Kurth’s great grandfather died when he was still a beardless dwarfling. But he never forgot the stories or the songs. And when Old Steelhymn’s verse echoed down the halls, a call to lost kin and home, his voice joined the chorus.
Kurth never doubted. It was not a matter of “if” but “when” the forges and anvils of Dammerhall would pound their marching thrum in honor of the Forgefather.
He grew up strong, hearty and solid like the stone that birthed his people. And when the time came, Kurth decided to lift his hammer in joyful service to Torag as a cleric. And he swore to his god that one day, he would walk the halls of Dammerhall and light a forge in honor of his great grandfather and all those who died so very far from home.

Imperia Wardroxan-Grayblade |

Here's my synthesist's alias. Nirmathas used to be Cheliax not to long ago, so I figure assimilated dwarves would've tried to give their children Chelish names.
Rocan/Yorick, I figure grandpappy Grayblade was a dwarf rogue who tried at least once to rediscover Dammerhall. His expedition met with a bad end but at least some of his adventuring group made it out to share warnings of where their particular trek went wrong. Even though the old man retired a long time ago he still has contacts in the recovery community and nudged Imperia their way.
She's fully assimilated into human culture and not all that respectful of dwarven culture- pretty typical teenager in that way.

Talas Arduinn |

Everyone looks awesome! I'm looking forward to playing with this group. :D
@krisam:

Boreyn Steelhymn |

Here's my dwarven bard's alias.
I guess grandpa Grayblade would be mentioned inside Boreyn's little book, also mentioned as still alive. I'm guessing that's how Boreyn conatcts possible party members, or at least the dwarven ones. Dwarves that have already showed interest and ambitions to try to navigate the underworld close to Dammerhall but failed, might still want to reclaim it.
Either they or people they have told stories to/ made enthusiastic about restoring the old dwarven glory, will answer the call sooner.
Also, I'm not saying Boreyn is the leader of this expedition, but most likely he is the initiative taker nonetheless. I can imagine a younger dwarf with a better health and equal zeal taking that role sooner than Boreyn does.

DM Yorick |

Backstory
Oh I love this. I love the "writing down the names of adventurers in the book". I love the idea of the "Ore Chanters".
I love how this is coming together. You guys have some really great backstories and characters. I'm so excited.
Also, I'm not saying Boreyn is the leader of this expedition, but most likely he is the initiative taker nonetheless. I can imagine a younger dwarf with a better health and equal zeal taking that role sooner than Boreyn does.
It's totally understandable that the person putting together isn't looking to lead it. Gather the brave and adventurous and simply watch over them. Someone may be crowned King of Dammerhall eventually, but it certainly need not be the oldest - or necessarily even one of you. It's entirely possible that you'll meet other Dwarves in your travels and may want one of them to be crowned. Hell, you could even crown a king who isn't a Dwarf.
Here's what I'm thinking for how you'll come together:
Boreyn will have traveled to Skelt knowing it to be the closest human settlement to the entrance he plans on exploring. He'll have sent word to many Dwarves, but will have heard from few in response. Kurth will be the only one to come in response. While in Skelt he'll meet Lady Greyblade. It's up to you guys whether Baird is going because he heard from Boreyn, or if he and Talas are traveling more impulsively.
If that meshes with everyone, let me know, and if anyone needs more time, also let me know that, but I'll probably work on getting the Gameplay thread up within a couple of days. I plan on staggering the introductions and having you guys take some time to RP before things kick off, so certainly feel free to have fun with it. :)

Imperia Wardroxan-Grayblade |

That sounds good to me. Granpappy Grayblade would have introduced her to Boreyn, playing up her skills to Boreyn and all the lost technical knowledge to her.
And she'll certainly be happy if all the oldsters call her Lady Grayblade.

Kurth Silvermug |

And she'll certainly be happy if all the oldsters call her Lady Grayblade.
Be advised, I might do so snarkily. ;-)

Boreyn Steelhymn |

Guess you'll have to hear alot of the snarks like 'little girl' and 'youngster' from Boreyn. He will be old and patient, and easily frustrated by the ones that are not as patient.
Also Imperia, you should check your CMD, it would be 16 if I'm correct.

Imperia Wardroxan-Grayblade |

Ha. She'll surely call him things like 'old fart' and 'fossil'. Patience won't be her strong suit (unless it's with a machine).
Thanks, I was looking at her stats for that, not Legion's. Legion's her suit's name, btw. Her answer to "oh, yeah? you and what army?"

Baird Ironhame |

Hmm. Maybe Baird heard the call for dwarves that Boreyn sent out, and was all fired up to go in a hurry because of it (since Kyonin is a ways off). He may even have heard of it through Talas, since he probably has less trouble staying in the loop of dwarf news than the Ironhames. That way Talas has even more reason to come along and keep Baird out of trouble, since Baird got the bee in his bonnet idea from him.
Baird has gone from being nearly middle-aged to being nearly as young a punk as Lady Grayblade, so he'll need the help!
Also, the idea of dwarven teenagers being young punks is endlessly amusing to me. I can just hear the elders complaining that it wasn't like this in the Dammerhall days!

Boreyn Steelhymn |

Most of the elder dwarves of now, were young punks in those days as well, seeing as it's nearly 200 years ago.
Boreyn was only a child back then, so you'll probably won't hear him saying that yet.

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

*laughs* Excellent. And yeah, it works for Talas to have heard it through the, uh, old boy network, and passed it on to Baird, etc.
For that matter, Boreyn and Talas may know each other? Talas is about thirty years his senior, and was running around Dammerhall as a wee elf twighead. I guess it depends on whether you envision Boreyn as a child in the Dammerhall days as closer to 'a toddler who just barely remembers it' or 'a kid capable of forming friendships', etc.
(I wish Paizowould give a clearer idea of equivalent ages/development for the long-lived races, that always bothers me. I bought the Dwarves splatbook for another character I was playing in order to try to get some idea of that, but nope.)

Boreyn Steelhymn |

Perhaps Talas and Boreyn fled the Fall together, elsewise Boreyn would have probably been only that nosy kid from next door, who couldn't shut up singing.
It depends if you as an teenage elf would have been friends with a brat of a dwarf.

Yeah, that bothers me, too. Obviously for the purposes of this you can make up whatever you want to!

Hey, elves like singing. :P Seriously, Talas is probably quite fascinated by that aspect of dwarven culture. So yeah, I imagine he lightly tolerated Boreyn as a youth, kind of an older kid lets younger kid tag along here and there sort of deal, if that works for you.
It's interesting to me, the psychology of how the different aging rates would change things up in a way we have no real world equivalent for-- at the start of this hypothetical relationship, Talas would have been the 'older' one emotionally, but by this point, Boreyn has likely passed him up-- Boreyn's on the 'old dwarf' scale, respected elder, etc, and Talas is only a middle-aged elf, with a streak of (by elven standards) youthful restlessness still. [/blither]
Anyway, yeah, ready to go, just gotta finalize Talas's alias details etc.

Happy birthday!

DM Yorick |

No problem at all, thanks for the head's up! Weekends tend to be lousy for me as well.
Also, Boreyn: I've given some thought to your remaining Drawback after seeing your character in action, and I've decided on Vulnerable (-1 AC). It should yield exciting results without being particularly detrimental.
Also we may have another player joining us.
Also I'll have a post moving us forward in the morning.
Also.

Kurth Silvermug |

Ditto.
