"I am fine ether way, concerning my dispelling abilities. I only have one prepared at the moment, a powerful one at that. Best used to strip defenses then tear down illusions. But I agree we should not leave enemies in our wake."

Re distance: I think we would have seen them pretty early (given taking 10 for 48) and then are wise enough to fall back a conservative distance.

- Cael, Apex, and Iko don't want to leave them behind
- Apex is happy to dispel (and then have us attack)
- Cael doesn't object to dispel...but wants to save his for later
- Iko will stand ready to attack whatever remains (if anything) after the illusion is (hopefully) dispelled

Would I still be a troll? To put it another way, has it been less than 27 and halfish minutes since we left the first battle?

Apex nods and asks Cael a question.

"Was the effect multiple auras?"

Depending on the answer, he does one of two things.

If the illusion is just one effect, then Apex fires off a normal Dispel Magic. If the illusion is multiple effects, he consumes a level two spell slot, switch outs Veil with Greater Dispel Magic from his book, and fires that as an area dispel. Either spell is empowered by fuel from Apex's inner arcane reservoir.

Dispel Check: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21

"Blast it," the masked man mutters under his breath, displeased by how weak his spell turned out.


I believe so, you can fly very quickly and you guys didn't really stop for anything on the way.

stealth shouldn't be too hard assuming they don't see through our illusions...a quietly approaching mosquito probably doesn't need cover.


Dispel check failed. Lucky the illusion wasn't intended for you intruders.

Apex's spell does nothing, except alert the creatures that someone is casting spells on them. They shimmer for a moment and then their form changes. These creatures have a pale, froglike appearance with clawed hands, no eyes, wide mouths, and snouts ending in pink tentacles. They begin casting blindly about for the source of the spell.

What now? Updated Roll20 map. Knowledge (Dungeoneering) to identify.

Assuming we're staying far enough back that the Moon-beasts don't hear our whispered strategy.

Iko-the-lunar-mosquito grimaces at Cael's warning of their defenses. "It sounds like my punches won't be as effective against them as against many foes...but with the blessing of the Dark Wind, I should be able to compensate for that. Are there any other spells we want to cast before taking the fight to these moon-beasts? If not, let's begin!"

When we agree we're 12 seconds before attacking cast Weapon of Awe (16 min duration) on my unarmed strike and then Divine Favor (1 min duration) 1 round before attacking, which'll give me +6 to damage. Not sure we need too much else in terms of buffs (and I'm inclined to be conservative about how quickly we spend resources given that I don't know how often we'll be able to stop and rest, though it is late in the day right now).

She will, though, put up a shield out of her vibrant purple prism.

Seeing the moonbeast lined up in a configuration perfectly suited to a low level spell, he cast it. Bright liquid flames jump from his outstretched fingers towards the beast in the center from their it splits in two, striking all three.

The moonbeasts know that these are no mere mosquitoes, no matter what their senses are telling them. They react accordingly. One of them looks at Cael. The other two attack the mosquitoes in front of them. the beast clawing at Iko connects with nothing but lunar air. The mooncritter on Apex however has more luck, slashing him with one claw and slapping the troll-man across his face with a tentacle.

Thanks to Stoneskin, the damage is only 5, and I heal that off thanks to my regeneration.

While the moonbeast makes Apex bleed, the resulting damage is much less than what it could have been. The masked troll barely seems phased by his wounds, which quickly knit as if nothing happened.

After consuming some of his inner magic to enhance his accuracy, the mighty Apex unleashes a hail of powerful blows on his enemy. He swings Korrina with his usual grace and precision but also follows the assault with a swing from his free claw and a bite from his teeth.

The Lady gently taps one of the moonbeast's tentacles with her closed fan, then steps to one side and pushes one leg out from under it. As it stumbles and falls (I hope) she opens her fan and slashes at its amorphous body...

With a flurry of activity from the former Pathfinders, all the moonbeasts are dispatched before they can even react.

I forgot that I had Greater False Life up, so that damage would actually have been subtracted from those points.

Apex is pleased at the clean dispatching of the moonbeasts. Thus far, the group's rescue mission has been going well. He recalls Mona's Pathfinders days where they typically had to fight the entire enemy stronghold down to its last man. Given how tiring those types of battle are, he much prefers the stealth approach.

"I suppose we should inspect the door," says Apex as he approaches the tower's entranceway.

The masked troll takes a few seconds to give it a good look over both with his normal sight and Detect Magic.

Perception - Taking 10: 10 + 21 + 2 = 33


The metal door to the shrine is unlocked and unmagical.

"The door is unlocked and unmagical," Apex announces to the group. "Anyone want to go in first? If not, I will."


After looking at the map more, this is a proper spire. You have to go up some stairs to get to the metal door. The moonbeasts were at the base of the stairs.

Just need someone to actually go in, and then I'll get to describing.


Iko wipes the ichor from his knuckles onto his robes (already thick with sand and sea salt). "I'm more than willing to go first. Once we open the door, if it seems someone scouting ahead would be wise, I'll step aside. If there's a foe waiting, well...they might as well meet me first."

The Lady gently closes her fan and fixes the position of her glasses as she begins to speak. "That seems an appropriate entrance, especially now that the doormen have met their end. I will note that if a scuffle breaks out, I will likely slip off to find Brythen Blood, so that we might escape before all of the denizens of this place are upon us."
