Raqa |
Raqa stood watching and listening.
"Team good. I go with too. Me follow but be in front.' She walks over to Beetly to look at map.
"Lets go. Look like this way out to toad. I want a big, fat green one." Pointing to one side of camp. She walks off, thinking the others will follow, if they don't, she runs after them.
"Toads, Toads. Lets go get us many toads..." Raqa's voice singsongs as they walk along.
Beetly |
Beetly has been staring at the map for a while, not wanting to make a mistake. Thankfully the big girl came over to take charge.
He trusted her, she seemed confident. "Yes, let's go that way!"
He then chimed in to her song. " Toads, toads... "
Gorkle |
Gorkle mutters something under his breath about setting things, or maybe people, on fire, it's rather hard to tell. Aiming a glare at the lot of them, he trudges off in the direction they head.
Being rather mercurial of temperament, however, he's singing along with the rest of them soon enough.
"Toads, toads, let us go get many toads!
We gets them all and they no explodes!"
Hmm...could there be ways to make them explode? That could be really fun. Or maybe just make _other_ things explode, so the toads were scared and ran to them? That might be better.
Beetly |
When the party started moving, one was distracted playing with his toys. But it was Beetly's most important new ally. "Mogmurch! Come! We're leaving!"
Fascinated from the swamp he inhaled the moist air with all its ugly smells. Then he remembered all the dangers that lurk here.
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Pretty sure, there aren't any dangerous enemies to speak of in a swamp he started searching for toads and insects alike.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Raqa |
Raqa enters the swamp surprised that the small group actualy followed her. "Now me toad!"
She starts calling out, "Toad, oh Toadie come here me little pretty."
"lookie what i find. Me find berrie. You want?" holding a handful of purples berries out at whomever is closest to her. "Maybe toadys likie."
I know, me go slient and stealthy. Then me find toad. big green un.
Survival, berry safe to eat?: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Stealth, all quiet, best way to snatch toad: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Perception, Find toad?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Beetly |
"lookie what i find. Me find berrie. You want?" holding a handful of purples berries out at whomever is closest to her. "Maybe toadys likie."
"Mhm, berries!
Knowledge (Nature) to identify the berry: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23DJ TPK |
Raqa is unsure if the berries are safe to eat. Beetly knows they are delicious but poisonous.
The group makes their way through the swamp.
The occasional lazy bubble breaks the surface of this shallow, stinky pond, and a haze of insects clouds the air in every direction. Only the occasional gurp-chirp of toadsong breaks through the drone of bugs.
Finding the toads are easy, catching them is not. Raqa, roll a Combat maneuver check
Beetly |
Beetly cheers loudly as Raqa finds some toads and she and Purg start jumping at them. Beetly is not good at jumping. He picks a small pebble and throws it at the closest toad hoping to stun it.
"Take that stupid toad!"
Throw Pebble: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage of Pebble: 1d3 ⇒ 2
DJ TPK |
Raqa is easily able to catch her new toad while Mogmurch despite completely surprising the toads misses. Mogmurch's hands sink into the peat and feel something hard beneath his hands.
Gorkle must first make a check if he want's anything while Beatly scares the frog away. Purg is disappointed about missing his toad.
(You gonna try Kavak?)
Beetly |
how can I miss a stupid toad on a 16 :(
Beetly is sad about the toad jumping away. But he's not giving up.
"just a training throw" , he shouts loudly. He then follows Mogmurch trying to encircle and sneak up on the toads.
stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
On the way he picks up another pebble hoping to hit a surprised toad.
throw pebble: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
pebble damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
if the toad had hp<3:
Pretty sure he did not miss with his surprise attack he runs towards the toad and hopes he didn't kill it. With great joy and motherly care he takes the (almost) dead toad into his arms.
DC 15 heal check to stabilize: 1d20 ⇒ 15

so no love for out-of-the-box thinking (that heal check was awesome!)?
My CMB sucks. I can't catch a toad the way you want me to!
This is supposed to be a roleplaying game. I seem to be the only one wanting that. If that's the case, I'm out.
Beetly, slightly frustrated, keeps sniping the sturdy toad with pebbles.
Beetly |
cmb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
great oO
Beetly |
"Someone help Beetly with his Toad? Pleeeease" He looks around seemingly frustrated. Searching for anything that might help him catch the stupid beast. Maybe if I sneak up in it, like Mogmurch
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
CMB (potentially vs FF CMD): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17
Mogmurch Rotfoot |
Mogmurch's face widens into a massive grin, as he grasps the dogslicer firmly.
Let's see if Beetly does it with help from a true ninja.
Mogmurch sneaks behind the toad, so it will have fewer places to flee if Beetly has a problem.
Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
Gorkle |

Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
CMB: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Sigh.
Well, his own efforts haven't been very successful thusfar, so might as well follow the example of those who _are_ having better luck, right? Picking a toad to sneak up on it is, and then he'll make his move. Gorkle may not be a ninja, but he is pretty decent at moving quietly when he needs to, after all.
And the sneaking goes well enough, all things considered. When he dives for the toad, on the other hand...
"Gorkle gots it! HA HA HA HA HA! Silly toad think it could escape from him, but Gorkle too smart and fast!"
If the rest of them look closely, they'll see that what Gorkle is actually clinging to in victory is nothing more than a slick, mud-covered mushroom, quite incapable of dodging when leaped at. The toad, meanwhile, sits on the ground about a foot away, slightly nonplussed about the large (relative to it) thing nearby, but otherwise untouched.
Beetly |
"Stupid Gorkle! That's no toad! Look, he's over there!" His own toad in one hand Beetly tries to shoo one towards Gorkle.
Aid Another CMB vs 10: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
But Beetly was too occupied in keeping his own toad as to properly help his ally.
Gorkle |
Gorkle peers at what's in his hands. Eyeshifting a bit, he seems to consider whether or not it's something he can use to lure the toad to him, or failing that, whether or not it's edible, at least, as he decides how to play off what just happened. "Uh, Gorkle meant that this was the mushroom he was going to use to lure the toad in with! Yeah, that it!" It's not the most convincing of bluffs, granted, but maybe they'll buy it.
He even goes through the motions of trying to lure one of the toads to him with the mushroom, though when he actually makes his attempt, it mainly involves crouching in place for a bit and then leaping for it.
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
CMB (Aided): 1d20 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) - 1 + 2 = 10
Okay, so the odds of me succeeding at this check aren't great with a CMB penalty (especially when I can't seem to roll above 10), but by the same token, there's really no penalty for failure or specific time limit involved, so I can keep going until I succeed. How do you want me to proceed?
DJ TPK |
Mogmurch finds two pickled corpses in the waters below the peat where he found the dog slicer along with a second dogslicer, a javelin, a grappling hook, an unholy symbol of Zarongel, two wooden spoons, two dead moles, and a jar of pickled fish heads.
Gorkle catches his toad and the group doesn't notice Kavak disappearing beneath the peat into the cold acrid waters below. If he shows back up I'll just say he escaped.
You start down the road but before you reach your destination, though, youcome upon a crudely-shaped fallen log blocking the path. A weasely, green-gray figure climbs astride it— Kettlehead the goblin, his polished pot still perched upon his puckered puss. He cries, Stupid baby wannabe goblins! as a pair of other whelps from the cage—Culgick and Rempty—scramble up beside him. Kettlehead continues, waving a mean-looking dogslicer over his head. You took toads from Kettlehead’s special pond, and now you have to pay my price. Give me all your toads! And say you be stupid!
Mogmurch Rotfoot |
A little earlier
Mogmurch opens the jar lid, hinges open his maw, and dumps the pickled fish heads inside, smacking his lips together after.
"Oi! Who wants stabby things?", Mogmurch asks the others.
******************
Yup, all is well.
As bubbles float to the surface behind the group.
******************
Mogmurch takes one look at Kettlehead.
"No, *you* stupid! We stab! Get stabbing!"
Beetly |
Do we have the gear that we bought from the 10 gp starting gold you gave us? I could really use that sling now :)
"Uhhhhh. Mogmurch found great stuff. I take the long flying stabby thing!"
**************
"These are our toads now. But there are plenty more in your pod. we took only one each. only ..." Beetly began counting his fingers, than hold up his two hands showing 9 fingers."...that much. Yes, we are eight. You are only three!"
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Purg Pointysticks |
Purg readies his namesake once more. "You not be taking toad from us! These our toad! We be licktoad, you be food if you try taking toad from us!" He realized this was also a licktoad, but he wasn't about to let a silly thing like clan allegiance stop him from becoming a full fledged member.
