Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Priyya:
From observing Malikadna, you've recognized that some of the abilities she has used are reminiscent of the way in which divine spells are cast, although she has others that are clearly arcane in nature. You're not entirely sure what her deal is. As for her pet... she seems to share some sort of a bond with it not unlike the one Lureene shares with Grak. Still, except for its fiery eyes, it looks more like a black-furred version of Alis' new pet than a demon.

Of course, it doesn't appear to be damaged yet so there's one sure way of telling if it hails from the lower planes or not...

Lureene flies upwards rising up to about 60-ft above ground-level. Flying over the rooftop, now on a level with the upper branches of the trees surrounding the village, she is just able to spy a small house on the far side of a narrow stand south-east of the main encampment (AR41-AX49). Although she scans the area with her darkvision and tries listening for Malikadna, she can neither see nor hear the old witch thru the jungle.

Eric: Since your specified target is nowhere in sight, you can re-declare your standard action if you like — either moving further, casting another spell, etc.

Rolls:

Lureene curses as her target is nowhere in sight. As she continues her glide she elects to wait for the witch to present herself.

Maintain standard action as readied action. She will plug Malikadna if she sees her. If she does not see the witch then Thaltaki will be the target. She is also going to glide down to square AL41, out of sight behind the building.
BTW did you miss L's Perception check earlier? She only rolled a 6 so it probably won't help but still every little bit helps, he he.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Based upon what Eric and I discussed in chat, along with Justin's seeming intent...

Priyya: Priyya steps forward and raises her hand unleashing a burst of holy light. The monkey doesn't appear to be affected either for better or worse. The skeletons resist more of the damage than she would have cared for, but she at least manages to destroy the one in front of her and its heavy bones clatter to the ground loudly.

Lureene: Wand in hand and unable to see Malikadna, Lureene glances over her shoulder to see how Priyya and Alis are doing. It appears that Alis managed to get free of the watch beast although she's beyond the range of her darkvision. In the courtyard, she can see Priyya facing off against 3 skeletons and the witch's familiar with the great lizard moving in her direction.

Hoping to give her a bit of breathing room, the succubus hovers for a moment and points her wand at Thaltaki. With a single arcane word, she unleashes a volley of three missile which streak forth to strike the tiny creature which hops straight up into the air in shock looking around to see where the blast came from.

Upon seeing the winged woman hovering in the air to the south, the little black monkey shrieks in anger shaking its fists in the air. It then takes off racing into the walkway beneath where Lureene is flying and out of sight.

Priyya:
Something catches your gaze just north of you. Sticking up out of the bed of coals is a giant-sized gladius, point embedded in the ground. It appears to be of exceptional quality and is still waving from side to side as if it was just dropped there point-first from on-high. That must have been the metallic sound you head while giving Durgon the mighty boot.

"WOMAN," the giant by Alis booms, "Malikadna must make new chief and he will judge what to do with you. Come now."

His tone brooks no argument and he reaches for her unconcerned with a reply. Surprised by his attitude, Alis tries to sweep his feet out but her attack comes too late and he attempts to slap the weapons from her hands.

The effort however gives him a nasty laceration and he grunts in pain but not before his arms close around her in a tight bear-hug. "Maybe see Malikadna after some fun..."

As Alis begins to rue how the evening is turning out, the giant lizard moves up on the next skeleton and bellows loudly, before striking it a hard blow with its mallet-like tail. Priyya hears the crunching of bone and the clatter of several ribs falling to the ground. Were the bonfire not in her line of sight, she might have noticed that the skeleton that was overrun was ground to dust by its heavy footfalls.

Yet heedless of anything other than the witch's last command, the two remaining skeletons are relentless in their pursuit of the the Surya-ka-Vahaak. The both move up and begin trying to rend her apart with their bony claws.

Lureene alights on the roof just above the doorway AH32 as her fly spell expires. She scans the courtyard and notes the situation is not good. Alis grappled by a giant, the huge lizard running amuck in the courtyard, and Priyya sorely pressed by the skeletons. She debates silently the best way to help Priyya, for while Alis is in trouble, Priyya’s situation is direr.

She knows she could either slow the lizard down, for a few seconds anyway, or help Priyya obliterate the skeletons. Trusting in Priyya’s enhanced movement to keep her from harm’s way; she decides to help clear a path for her.

A huge ball of fire erupts right in front of Priyya. She momentarily shields her eyes against the blaze. When it is clears, only smouldering bones are left behind and she sees Lureene standing on the edge of the building east of her.

In front of the warrior priestess, the gargantuan lizard has nearly rounded the fire and that she has perhaps only a few seconds to make her move.

Looking around, she can't see anyone else, beside the succubus. Far in the distance, beyond the fire, she can hear the sound of Alis struggling and a lone giant grunting eagerly. Behind her, she note that the door was slammed shut though she can hear Vechus giving Durgon orders to tie up what can only be Sasha.

Lastly, an unfamiliar and gruff male voice exclaiming about a monkey coming from the southwest informs her that the red head at least managed to buy the dwarf at least a little time. Well, assuming the monkey doesn't set him on fire first...

Once again Priyya regrets there aren't two of her. So much to do, so little time. She gives Lureene a thumbs-up on the fireball and waves at the giant sword sticking in the wood pile. "Lureene, I think we need to keep the sword out of the hands of the giants. Get it, torch it, or something!" Priyya casts a spell quickly and races back into the cage looking to sneak around behind the giants and do a bit of rescuing.

Priyya runs back inside, grabbing the corner of the wall as she makes a sharp turn. She makes it all the way to the first corner of the walkway when she sees a badly beaten dwarf wearing naught but a loincloth and carrying a bloody axe standing up ahead, face-to-face with Thaltaki.

Priyya raises her hand to unleash a burst of healing energy a moment before the black monkey sets its burning gaze upon the dwarf, but the rugged warrior easily resists the attack with so much as a singed whisker.

In alarm, the witch's familiar takes off running for the shattered door to the guardroom.

Isolated but not alone, Alis' struggle for freedom becomes more desperate. Unable to slip free, the lizard's handler has an easier time grabbing her frail wrists in his hands and then pinning her to the ground with his greater weight.

She can feel his hot, fetid breath upon her as he says, "Pretty dancer make Cullos feel like chief very soon..."

Meanwhile, down in the courtyard, the armored lizard stomps past the bonfire stopping atop the shattered and charred remains of the three skeletons, sniffing the ground around where Priyya last was. Its swings back and forth in agitation as it tries to discern which way she went.

Seeing the witch's accursed pet before him, Darvesch feels his blood boil from anger if not from the impish creature's burning gaze. As the monkey attempts to run past, he lashes out at it with his axe spraying the walls and floor with blood as he connects.

The tiny creature gives a piteous shriek, only the supernatural toughness gained thru its ties to Malikadna saving its life. With a howl of pain that sounds eerily like a high-pitched curse, it vanishes around the corner from when Darvesch just came.

As the red haze clears from his eyes, the dwarf notices that some of his wounds have closed seemingly on their own. That's when he spies the Xerakai woman with dark skin and wide almond-shaped brown eyes standing by the next corner, breathing hard from exertion. Her robes mark her as a warrior-priestess of Alíta, one of the deities popular on the surface world amongst elves and humans. The fact that they are now tattered and stained with blood and soot informs you that she must be part of the rescue force accompanying Princess Alis... who it now occurs to you is screaming for help rather than singing.

As you gaze at the priestess, the most noteworthy feature you discern is an aura of golden flames surrounding her form. No doubt you have her to thank for the partial closure of your wounds.

As she reaches the end of the rope, Aerys says, "It's lookin' like Mal's cat now a mercat! I've never seen such a thing..."

Looking up, she sees Gelik slowing his pace, gazing nervously at the glowing green surf.

"Oh come off of it, Gelik! It's just glowin' algae or somethin'!"

As the tall, dark-haired half-elf says as much, Gelik scoots down a bit further before making a gasping whimper, hand shakily pointing at the ghostly form of an elven woman beaconing him to come into the water.

"G– g– ghost– in the s– surf!"

Treading water as best he can with Aerys' help, Jask nearly dunks under when the dark-haired woman turns and recoils at the sight of the apparition. Spitting water from his mouth and coughing a bit, he says, "She should be harmless, just a restless spirit. If she were malevolent, she would not hesitate to attack us now that we are in the water. Gelik, hurry, please!"

Suddenly a fairly large eel surfaces in front of her and hisses, "'sss meee, Maaal!"

As the woman's eyes go wide with disbelieve, he continues, "Long ssstory, fffollow meee. Sssissster, help Jasssk."

With a bit of a whine, Talvyra swims closer and suffers the old priest to wrap his tiny arms around her neck before she begins swimming north after Mal with Aerys not far behind.

"H– hey! Wait for me! Eww..."

Wincing at how high he still is, Gelik shuts one eye and lets go of the rope splashing down loudly into the surf. The water seems to be comes a bit warmer when he makes it back to the surface to see another ghost floating along side him, hands folded over its chest in repose.

"Aeeeryyys!!!"

Lureene:
Now that you're standing at the corner of the building, you can just barely see around the corner where Alis ran. When she screams out Priyya's name, you look to see that she is on her back with one of the giants trying his best to have his way with her. She's fighting with everything she's got, but it's pretty clear that he's overpowering her.

Lureene curses again as she sees the lizard block her avenue to where Priyya said the sword was located. She debates whether she can reach it by flying above it, when she hears Alis’ cry.

As she glances over and sees what is happening, a white hot fury erupts in her. Clenching her wand hard enough to nearly shatter it, she fairly screams the arcane word to activate it, and several glowing missiles slam into the hulking giant!

Once the missiles have impacted it, she launches herself into the air and proceeds to glide towards the confrontation!

Lureene's scream attracts the attention of the giant lizard which turns and looks up at her with dark, dumb eyes as she glides past overhead. It paws at the earth and gives a nasal roar audible throughout the entire encampment at the perceived challenge.

Oblivious to what she may have done, Lureene alights on the ground past the fire just moments after her magic missiles impact Cullos on his hind end. With a grunt of surprise, her looks up from rubbing his tongue on Alis' face and squints at the demonic figure outlined against the fire, the sounds of the roaring beast coming from behind her.

Priyya turns and runs back the way she came. She glances through the doorway at the mayhem, looking to thread the needle with an arrow shot. She draws a bead and fires on Alis' ravager. Then she takes a moment to heal her own wounds and decide what to do next.

Justin: You'll definitely want to check the rolls spoiler. ;)

Priyya races to the doorway to find that the giant lizard has turned and is now fixated upon something on the eastern side of the camp.

Squinting past the glare of the bonfire, Priyya sees Lureene standing with an agitated pose on the far side, staring out towards the approach to the giant's camp. There, in the shadows past the large lodge to the north, she can just barely make out the horizontal forms of two giants, one clearly the powerful form of a strongly-built man, the other Alis' shapely legs which are thrashing wildly as she tries to get out from under her would-be rapist.

Brow furrowed at the ridiculous difficulty of the shot, the waves of heat distorting the air and the succubus in the way, she never-the-less puts her faith in Alíta and looses a single arrow...

From beside her, Lureene feels something something whiz past her ear and she flinches as a few golden curls drift earthward. Not even a heartbeat later, she hears another shout from the giant and her gaze snaps up to see it clutching at its buttocks where an arrow has become lodged!

Risking a glance behind, she sees Priyya standing in the curtained entryway to the walkway she had launched from just a few moments ago. That's when Lureene also notices that thru the flames there is a very large and angry dinosaur glaring straight at her.

At Cullos' roar of pain and indignation, Priyya allows herself the slightest smirk of satisfaction and feels a shudder of warmth as she invoke's Alíta's power upon her own wounds.

With a growl of supreme annoyance, Cullos grabs Alis by her slender shoulder and then slams her hard into the ground knocking her out. He then stands, gripping Alis by the hair in one hand while raising the other to his mouth.

A loud guttural call not unlike the one made by the guard beast, only this sounds more mewling and urgent, almost like... a young animal calling out for its... mother!

Suddenly, Lureene hears a deafening enraged roar from the western side of the bonfire. No sooner does she turn than does the dinosaur plow thru the bonfire, heedless of its own life and barreling straight towards the sound of the giant's call!

And in the next moment, Lureene was subjected to indescribable pain as several thousand pounds of muscle clad in bony plates did trample her delicate form! Priyya blanches at the sight, the sound of Lureene's screams surpassed only by the sound of her bones being crushed.

She glances over her shoulder to see if Sasha's dwarven friend witnessed the atrocity only to find that he is not only not there, but that she can hear what sounds like his warcry echoing from down the hallway to the west!

Looking back towards Lureene, she sees movement and realizes that somehow, the succubus yet lives. She's not so certain about what's to become of the dwarf she just met...

Inside the guard room, Durgon and Vechus spare a glance at one another when they hear the guard beast's terrible cry. Lip curled in bewilderment, Vechus slaps Durgon on the shoulder, hands him the club and says, "KILL the fool."

He then walks over to open the door and steps outside, scratching his head at the demolished bonfire, the field of bodies and destroyed skeletons, and the billowing cloud of dust from the giant lizard's passage. "Invidia's cvnt..."

As he does so, Durgon eyes the dwarf cautiously, wary of the burning axe in his hands and his own wounded knee. Darvesch can see that he is breathing heavily and drenched in sweat, the strength granted by his berserk fury clearly spent at this late stage in the battle.

The two lock eyes, but Durgon is the first to act and charges...

Even as he does so, a glint of light catches Vechus' eyes and he looks to his left. Not too far away, Priyya's hears everything that is transpiring including Vechus gasp, "The sword!"

Yet no sooner does the new chieftain see his prize than behind him comes the sound of calamity as Durgon trips over Sasha and crashes to the ground in front of Darvesch, the club flying from his grasp!

Jason: Feel free to make an AoO on the giant right in front of you.

Priyya isn't sure if the sword is of ceremonial or actual import, but denying it to the giant may be the wisest course of action.

Again, she casts a spell which guilds her feet in golden light and enables her to race across the compound. She runs up and grabs the sword from the pile.

As the holy rain begins to fall, she grins at the giant. "Say goodbye to your prize! I'm the chieftain NOW!"

Swift Action - Cast Quick March

Move Action - Run over (X27). Grab the sword. STR Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Priyya dashes across the hot coals and with a grunt of effort pulls the over-sized blade free. To her, the coals feel no hotter than walking on the streets of her homeland as a child. Even grasping the sword, she's certain she's burned herself worse handling a bowl of hot soup before her celestial heritage manifested itself.

Grinning proudly and looking not unlike a small child holding their sire's blade, she casts her spell, the rain raising a billowing cloud of steam as it hits the hot coals.

Suddenly from inside there is a horrible yell, suddenly cut short as bits of flaming brains and charred pieces of skull burst from the guard room! The relentless dwarf stands over Durgon, the giant's skull obliterated by a month's worth of fury and vengeance unleashed!

Outside, as he vanishes from Priyya's sight, Vechus' frustration and surprise is plain as day on the giant's face.

"Damnable PEONS!!!" he yells in fury.

Justin: Since I don't feel like re-writing my post at this late hour, we'll just assume you were able to snag the sword as part of your move action. The blue ring represents the fog, the gold the rain.
Jason: In the interest of keeping confusion to a minimum, I went ahead and resolved the AoO for you using the nat-20 you previously rolled. No 20s left behind! Check the damage dude, 81 mother-f#@*ing points! O_o;

I see we were posting at cross purposes. :) I canceled the second spell in my post when I recalled that grabbing the sword would take an action. When I saw you adjudicate the spell as legal, I re-did my post to go back to my original idea. LOL. How about we assume her hand is on the sword and I can pull it as a move action next round, using my previous roll?

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Sure, that works for me. I must say, the dice clearly did not like Durgon. That was TWICE he fumbled in front of Darvesch! I still can't get over 'Little D' doing 81 points of damage. WICKED SICK!!!

As Lureene sees Alis get backhanded and knocked out, she fights to maintain control of her emotions, her mother's demonic side threatening to overwhelm her iron controls. As the dinosaur's body crushes her to the ground, driving the lifesblood from her, a feeling of failure washes through her, mixed with the agonizing pain followed by demonic rage! She wishes she could simply blast that giant and his overgrown pet into a thousand...

Wait...

WAIT...

WAIT a minute, a pet? He can control the beast?

A desperate plan forms in her mind, but first she had to get away from this lizard....she activates her bracelet, which has saved life many times now, Thank you, Immerstal! and moves behind the curtain cover. Then she chants an arcane spell, then calls out a phrase in Malatestan..."Lead your lizard pet out of camp to find its offspring, and leave the giantess behind!" in Malatestan.

Use anklet 1/2, teleport to AB41.

NOTE: Everyone, please never delete a post from the thread even to remove an action you want to retract. If you need to do it, simply edit the post and just put the word "removed" in it in OOC text.

The dreaded Forum Bug has resurfaced where edits are no longer showing up properly. Example: Eric corrected his last post to say "offspring" instead of "mother". It is currently showing "mother" in the thread view and "offspring" on the reply page. I've filed an error report to see if The Guys™ can look into it, but let's not make it any worse ok? :)

Suspecting that the female thunder lizard must have or have had offspring at some point to react as she did, Lureene peers around what she hopes is sturdy cover and calls out her command with the casting of her spell.

Hearing Lureene's voice behind her, the dinosaur reacts violently and swings her tail striking the wall next to the frightened succubus. The entire structure shakes, dust and mortar raining down on her head, yet it doesn't collapse.

Outside, she can hear the spell take effect on the dim-witted giant. He slowly lets go of Alis' hair, lowering her to the ground while making slowly, non-threating gestures and speaking softly. "Oookaaay, it's oookaaay. We go look together, sssshhh..."

In case of a critical threat:

Granting Darvesch a bonus on the Arcana check since he's previously witnessed the interactions between Malikadna, Thaltaki, and the giants.

While in his battered and adrenalized state, Darvesch doesn't recall all the specifics of why a familiar is important to a hell-blasted witch, but he does recognize that's what the monkey is and that his value to Malikadna far exceeds his small size.

Moving quickly, he comes up on Thaltaki. Before the frightened monkey can react, he brings the burning edge of his prized axe down right between the monkey's own flaming eyes!

Blood and brains paint the walls and from somewhere far in the distance, he thinks he can hear a horrified scream... a thought echoed by Lureene and Priyya as well — somewhere to the south of the building in which the enchantress is huddled.

It is difficult for Vechus to notice thru the dust and smoke, but his eyes go wide as he sees Cullos lead the guard beast away and out of the camp.

"Cullos, FOOL, where are you going? GET BACK HERE!"

However, the ranger heeds only Lureene's suggestion and proceeds to lure the agitated beast further out of the camp without further outbursts. As he goes, Lureene breathes a small sigh of relief to see that he takes care to ensure Alis doesn't get stepped up, although she suspects that the vile giant does so only for the self-serving purpose of hoping he can return to finish his fun later.

Eyes narrowing, Vechus plunges into the thick fog towards the last spot he remembered seeing the dauntless priestess. Undeterred by the coals, he never-the-less finds that while they no longer burn, instead the very rain itself sears his skin!

Gritting his teeth against the pain, he moves forward until he sees the short woman holding the oversized sword, his sword. With a roar of rage, he attempts to snatch it from her grasp.

Justin: Go ahead and make an AoO if you like.

NOTE: Vechus has total concealment from everyone except Priyya. They each have a 20% miss chance on one another.

Lureene peers around the corner and nods in satisfaction as Cullen leads the lizard away. That should tie him up for a few hours. She struggles to her feet and quickly scans the courtyard for any other threats, but other than the rainstorm and fog cloud in the midst of the courtyard, she notes nothing else threatening.

She staggers out and hustles quickly down the trail, trying not to attract the lizard's attention and moves next to the fallen Princess, while reaching into her pack for the jug of healing draughts.

Hang on 'Lis, just hang in there...

Darvesch takes a moment to catch his breath, now that the room is clear, and moves to Sasha. Thankful that she came to his aid when she did, he touches her with a healing hand to repay the debt.

"Wake up. We have a battle to finish." He says loudly to her, as he regains his sense of duty to his comrades outside.
