Angalia steps carefully down the steps, shrouded in silence broken only by the reverberant dripping. The stairs end and open into a large room of hewn stone with damp moss-covered walls. Tarnished braziers shine their flickering light on a gnarled figure standing motionless by the far wall. The emaciated preserved corpse is propped motionless on the far wall. The effect reminds you of the phenomenon of bog mummification - corpses preserved by long airtight saturation in marshlike conditions.

In one of the far corners is a stagnant well while a passage leads off the far wall.

34/34HP , AC17

Tybalt proceeds down after Angalia into the room, carefully surveying their surroundings to ascertain if the lady had walked just through the room or visited the well.

The bard looks to the others and points to the mummified corpse; "Do you think it'll rise?" He asks, preparing for battle just in case.

Really, Tybalt?

As if in answer, the big mummy speaks, "Leave this place!" He lumbers forward menacingly.

You either have to move out or roll initiative.

Holding for Andrzej to take his turn, since he's in Leandro's line for a charge.

Angalia, Eliva, and Anuqa begin the assault on the undead monstrosity, but find its preserved hide thick and difficult to harm.

All 3 attacks miss.

Keeping his shield in one hand and his razor sharp whip (not wit, obviously), the bard slides sideways peering over Leandro's shoulder. "I think I'm safe here?" he states, flicking his whip forward/

Nerveless on the outside but paralysed inside, the magus wills his body to move and bring up a defence but all to no avail.

Come on Leandro!

Post in discussion thread. Please check it out.

I hope you don't mind - trying to restart this game after 6 months in the middle of combat is going to be needlessly complicated. We are going to assume you destroyed the mummy, because that's what heroes do.

Struck by Leandro's holy wrath, the mummy lets out an unearthly wail as it crumbles into a heap of mud and moldy wrappings. A foul wind suddenly blows through the chamber, carrying upon it the sickly scent of decay.

As quickly as it began, the wind dies and the air grows still. Once again, you can hear the steady drip of foul water from the stone ceiling into the fetid pools on the floor.

A reminder of what the room looks like. On the western wall, the stairs back up to the chapel rise and bend northward. A foul well occupies the northeast corner, while a corridor extends from the southeast corner.

34/34HP , AC17

After a few small coughs form the exploded zombie, the comedic woodsman looks to Leandro with a grateful smile and nod of thanks. Tybalt creeps forwards and looks to the passageway out for signs of anyone else moving along it.

Survival: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 6(2neg): Init -2, Perception-2, F+11, R+6, W+9; HP 42/54 {CPE 2/4 3D6; LoH 4/8, 3d6; smite, 0/2; divine armor 0/1}

Leandro coughs and waves away the scent of decay. "Faugh, that's foul! Anybody injured?" He looks to his fellows.

34/34HP , AC17

"I'm fine...." He replies kneeling down to examine the entrance a bit further; "..but maybe you should come look at this? I'd advise against using that well everyone - we're in the middle of a swamp, there could be worse bugs in the well however."

Venturing a look around he corner in the southeastern corridor, Tybalt sees that the rough stone hallway extends about 25 feet and then bends to the right once again. The corridor is dark and there is no sign of anything stirring.

Tybalt sees some very faint muddy footprints in the corridor, headed in both directions, but they are at least a day old.

Male Human Magus 6 AC21/T16/F15, Hits 50/50, Init +6, F+8, R+7(+9), W+6; Perception +0, Arcane Pool 6/6

Andrzej finally breaks free of the unholy paralysis as the undead collapses. His bonds loosen and he moves up with Tybalt, shaking his head to Leandro.

That was close. The others saved me again while my mind was afeared. I must do better to help them now.

34/34HP , AC17

As he glances at the footprints in the corridor, he taps the amulet around his throat thoughtfully. Trapped in two minds whether to carry-on and rush forward so as to get out of here as fast as possible or to be a bit more cautious.

He turns around and says a trifle hesitantly; "We probably should check out the well, just to ensure there's no nasty surprises lurk down there...?"

Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 6(2neg): Init -2, Perception-2, F+11, R+6, W+9; HP 42/54 {CPE 2/4 3D6; LoH 4/8, 3d6; smite, 0/2; divine armor 0/1}

Leandro nods at the bard and claps Andrzej on the shoulder in wordless comfort as he passes, examining the waters of the well.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Did we have torches or light spells or...?

Male Human Sorcerer 6 {AC 13 [17 with mage armor]), Perception +9, HP 23/27}

Time to get Anuqa rewarmed up.

"I shall determine if there is any type of magic down there."

Anuqa casts detect magic

Male Human Magus 6 AC21/T16/F15, Hits 50/50, Init +6, F+8, R+7(+9), W+6; Perception +0, Arcane Pool 6/6

The magus follows Leandro, not rubbing his shoulder at the man's rough housing but glad of the comfort. He waits nearby and carefully looks over the edge into the well not really expecting to see more than the other more observant fellows.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

The surface of the well water appears to shimmer and ripple of its own accord. Peering within, it quickly descends into inky darkness. A rope attached to a pully descends into the depths.

Anuqa readily detects a moderate aura of Abjuration about the well.

Knowledge (Dungeoneering or Engineering) or Intelligence DC 15:
Entering the depths of this crypt, one of you idly remarked that it was remarkable that the crypt was not flooded, given the chapel stood in a swamp. It is possible this well is actually something of an enchanted sump, channeling water out of the rooms so that they are habitable.

Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 6(2neg): Init -2, Perception-2, F+11, R+6, W+9; HP 42/54 {CPE 2/4 3D6; LoH 4/8, 3d6; smite, 0/2; divine armor 0/1}

Eliva's knowledge (dungeoneering0

Angalia offers the suggestion, "There must be something around here that keeps this place from flooding. This could be like a sump to draw water away." She regards it with curiosity. "But why the rope, I wonder?"

Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 6(2neg): Init -2, Perception-2, F+11, R+6, W+9; HP 42/54 {CPE 2/4 3D6; LoH 4/8, 3d6; smite, 0/2; divine armor 0/1}

"There is some protective magic about. I think it might be used to keep the water out. I'll see if I can recall such a spell."

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Anuqa could certainly conceive of someone researching an Abjuration spell for such a purpose, and suspects that is the case here.

I don't know of a spell that actually does that, but with research, a "water ward" spell is feasible, so I'm treating it as a researched spell.

Male Human Cleric/6 {HP:49/49, AC 16 (11 touch)

Res shakes off the lingering feelings of despair and follows the others to the well. He heeds Tybalt's warning to avoid the water. He then casts light ion his greatsword and peers down the dark corridor trying to discern where the muddy tracks lead.

Male Human Magus 6 AC21/T16/F15, Hits 50/50, Init +6, F+8, R+7(+9), W+6; Perception +0, Arcane Pool 6/6

The magus circles the well hole, finding it hard to keep still in the oppressive air and lack of direction. As sson as Res makes his move, Andrzej follows him on his heels unable to fathom the well or its value.

34/34HP , AC17

"The rope could be a plug? Whilst the well keeps the undercroft dry... it'd make sense why this place isn't knee-deep in the mire." Tybalts says followed by a wry grin. "We're knee-deep in something & it's not swamp water."

He looks to the others for confirmation whether to pull the rope or continue on out of the room.
