Hehe... I have a friend like that. She's a total game maniac.
Listen y'all, since it seems we have more shady, evil-leaning PCs in this group than not (skullduggery for the win!) I thought it would be appropriate to pass this along. Much wisdom here, and the final observation is one to live by (so sayeth my pyromaniac gnome). Even if you're an Order of the Stick follower, it's still worth a re-read.

wicked_raygun |

I don't know if the group is evil leaning. A bit grey, perhaps, but that's okay for the setting. Plus, it gives a starting place to grow. Your characters aren't big, damned heroes just yet. Most of you are just trying to get by.
And heroism isn't always pretty, anyways.
Also, I'm a big fan of OOTS. Belkar is my personal sexy, shoeless god of war.

Miss Wen provides Doctor Loveless with a sample of Compsognathus saliva, from which he could synthesize poison... Craft Alchemy DC 12. You could work it out on the train, or hold onto it for later.
Given the ridiculously long time crafting takes, I was planning to just stash it for future study. Without Poison Use I don't really want him mucking around with the stuff on a moving train, anyway. :o)
Couple of questions, though. Compy poison isn't a stock item in the poison shops (i.e. I can't look it up in the poison chart). I'll need to know what it would cost so I can calculate expenses when he does get around to crafting it. I thought I'd once seen a cost formula based on DC, number of saves, effect, etc. but I can't seem to track it down (it might not have been for Pathfinder).
And secondly, by "synthesize" are you suggesting that once he works out the specifics, he won't need further compy saliva to make doses and can use other raw materials as long as the cost is equivalent? Or will he have to suck up to Jade whenever he needs to make more? :o)
Thanks!

I just finished the first of my finals and I'm wiped out with a splitting headache. I was up all night studying and so I'm going to sleep now. I will catch up and post later tonight or in the morning.
Sorry to fall behind. I'll catch up asap.
PS: Pretty sure I passed that one. One more on Thursday and then it's back to the States for Clinical Rotations!

wicked_raygun |

Good luck, CB. The game will be here when you can post again.
Loveless: You asked about the compsognathus poison. That was me just me house-ruling. The closest poison equivalent to Compy poison would be Medium Spider Venom which costs 150gp to buy, and therefore 75gp to craft.
Miss Wen gave you enough for a single sample only, about 75gp worth of ingredients -- roughly. You can produce it, when you have the time for it. You'll need to pay the crafting cost to make any future poison though.
I shouldn't have used the word "synthesize". That was misleading on my part. Sorry.

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

No worries, and thanks for the analogue -- that'll get me where I need to go when the time comes.
I probably won't have Doc do much with poisons since his archetype lacks all the poison-related features.

I got all of my results today. I passed all of my courses as well as the program. Goodbye four hour lectures, pointless lab sessions and mindnumbingly frustrating questions written by people who speak poor english.
YAY!!!!!!!
On the other hand, come May, say hello to 12 hour days at the hospital followed by a four hour study sessions six days a week and huge tests every 3 weeks. 8)
We leave the island Thursday for the States where I will be sequestered until March to prepare for Step One of my Boards. I will have a short vacation then until May when I will begin Clincial Rotations in NYC.
So, I should have far fewer problems making my one post a day for the next six months. 8)

Congratulations Caitlyn! :o)

Rats, I forgot to confirm the critical for double feathers...

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Doc isn't packing (and's had so little exposure to firearms he doesn't even realize the difference between a musket and a rifle), but for the player's benefit, a few "Way of the Gun" questions please:
Fire True – A gunslinger never fires on the unarmed or the unaware.
Based on what just happened, clearly the gods don't cut any slack on that even when a monstrous type is munching on general population body parts. I doubt, on the other hand, that they'd get upset if someone shot a ladybug without tapping her on the shoulder first. Can you give me a feel for where the line is drawn? Critters with functional intelligence, perhaps?
Do they grant "greater good" situational exemptions? I can see that covert snipers are straight out, but what about .e.g. a case where entity X is about to kill entity Y; can entity Z fire upon X without X's awareness to potentially save Y's life?
Are creatures with natural attacks considered "armed" if they're not carrying a weapon? How about unarmed strikers like monks? (And goblins don't even have a bite or claw attack as far as I know, so unless this little guy has a dagger or something, can we fire upon him at all?)
Oh look, a can of worms!

wicked_raygun |

In my previous campaign we had the most fun treating the Shooter as letter of the law kind of god. He's neither good nor evil, he just has a code. I had a player who kept coming up with fun ways to get around the Way. He kept a light crossbow for sneaky hits. When the baddie would face him he'd quick draw his gun.
I had an evil NPC murder a family leaving just a little boy. He offered the kid a dagger. "If you run, boy, I won't kill you. But you'll live the rest of your life knowing you're a coward. Or, you can pick up that there sticker and come at me, and we can see who the gods favor."
It also helped to explain why most folks don't use guns. Or think gunslingers are mystical. A gun is unreliable except to those who know their secrets. It is not unlike activating a wand with UMD. Only here the activation is flavor.
The goblin was armed, he has a sword. I should have been more specific. But CB caught him unawares.
And yes I would count a monk as armed, as I would a wizard, etc.

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

And then the goblins head explodes in an orgy of gore.
"Great green gobs of greasy grimy goblin guts..."

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Just for the record, the typical goblin is of average intelligence (at least in most worlds; it might be different here). Doc's viewpoint is biased thanks to long-standing racial hatred between goblins and gnomes.

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

I'm still alive and well.
Still alive and well.
Every now and then I know it's kind of hard to tell,
But I'm still alive and well.

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Oops... I saw "everyone can go again" and jumped in, forgetting Doc's at the tail end of the initiative list and should have gone last. I'm hopeful acting so quickly won't disturb things too much. GM, don't hesitate to shuffle the order of reality if necessary, and I'll pay closer attention from here on out.
Sowwy.

I hope everyone had a great holidays. I'm afraid to say that I spent so much time in the hospital that I'm going to have to drop my online games to catch up for my board exams. 8(
I really had a great time playing with you guys and I really wish you the best with your game. If I make it back to the boards in April, I hope we can run into each other again. 8)

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Aw... bless you, Caitlyn! Even though the game has only just started and our time's been brief, I suspect I can speak for everyone and say we're going to miss you.
Here's wishing you the best with your studies, and please take care of your health!
Hugs,
Doc

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

basking in the thrill of having ended a life.
"You," says Doc Loveless, "are one cold-blooded, psychopathic killer."
He calmly takes a sip of tea. "I like that in a woman."
(Great imagery in your stroll down the passageway, too!)

Ira Kerrigan |

Goodbye, Caitlyn. I hope everything gets less hectic around your end. Even though inevitably life comes before games, it's no fun when it does happen.
And speaking of life coming before games, I should apologize. I feel like I've been doing that quite a lot recently, but I suppose it's just due to how absent I've been in my games. I said it would be less busy around here, but apparently I'm incapable of anticipating how much time family takes up!

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

I'm finding it quite challenging to visualize an intimidating gnome. :oP

wicked_raygun |

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Not really. Leprechauns are nasty little creatures. Nothing at all like the sweetness and light that is the gentle gnome.

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Apologies for the snarkiness, Benjamin. I promise it's the character, not the player.

Mallory Lewis |

Hey Benjamin, welcome aboard! Out of curiosity, are you going straight Gunslinger or planning to Multiclass? I know Caitlyn had been planning to go Spellslinger and then into Eldritch Knight, was just wondering if you had something in mind.

Dr. Miguelito Loveless |

Power out, DMPC as needed.

"Reckon that'll work." she said, pulling her hat a down a bit lower over her eyes. She looked at Ben, and added "But you do the crouching, boy."
Bow in recognition of my awesome willpower, that Doc did not make a snide remark about the two of you arguing over who's going to be on top...
