Fizzlebomb burns away a few of the insects while Fergus merely tries to shoo them away! Sain then tries to take a few out with an arrow!
Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 for Arrow: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Sain is able to disperse some of the remaining insects in the second swarm, however they continue to harass the party!
Who gets it?: 1d3 + 1d2 ⇒ (2) + (2) = 4
The first swarm goes after Paul while the injured swarm tries Varis!
Bite vs Paul: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 for Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 1) = 10
Bite vs Varis: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 for Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
Both adventurers manage to avoid injury!
Varis and Paul may act!

DM RyckyRych
OK thanks. If you could put your max HP in your header too.
Paul moves to attack the gnome, scoring a hit! Varis is not so lucky as he misses his target and then moves away from the swarms!
The gnome, surrounded by the Roughboys, drops his bow and draws shortswords, showing that he is willing to attack instead of surrender! Who? Paul=1, Varis=2: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Shortsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Shortsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The pesky little gnome manages to penetrate the fighter's defenses, stabbing him in the stomach!
Sain fires another arrow at the swarm, managing to reduce the number of insects slightly! Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 for Arrow: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

As if on command, Fizz destroys the last of the insects in the weakened swarm. The other swarm attempts to take its revenge on Fergus!
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 for Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 1) = 10

Fizz misses out of caution! Both Fergus and Paul manage to lessen the size of the swarm! The swarm then decides to try its luck against Fergus=1 or Paul=2: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 for Damage: 2d4 + 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) + (2, 1) = 9 Net 6 HP

More insects are swatted away by the paladin's longsword! Eventually the swarm is defeated and the party is able to recover!
Out of Combat!
Its about time! You call yourselves heroes? A bunch of cockroaches almost took you down! The witch snickers as she slowly walks into the room. At least you took care of that fella. Damn gnomes.
Fizzlebomb
Don't step on the runes, but search the room quietly, we don't know what's on the other side of the doors. Cleric, can you throw some heals at some of the more wounded?
I see something in the bottom left corner of the tombs, is that a something or just a carryover from another death trap you've got waiting for us?
I will also be out of technology range for the weekend starting around 3pm today.
Fergus McDammitson
Fergus ignores the witch's goading and casts 6 points of Lay on Hands on himself.
Brother Haldor, wouldst thou attend to the wounds of our fighter friend?
DM RyckyRych
The thing in the lower left is just me finding a way to give light to the rest of the room from when you threw the rock into the middle. I've moved it there now.
A search of the room discovers nothing of any note. The gnome carried mundane gear, mainly leather armor, two shortswords and a longbow sized for him.
The runes continues to shower the room with an eerie glow. The bluish hue pulses slowly as you move about but nothing seems to be happening with them otherwise. The act of throwing the lighted rock also had no effect.
The only exits from this chamber are the stairs that you arrived from and the closed set of double doors to the east.
Do your healing as needed and keep track of your resources... you might need them! Bwhahahahaha....
Varis -6
Fergus -7
Haldor Dagsson
Here, Paul. That swarm hurt you quite a bit.
Healing Word: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
DM RyckyRych
The runes simply spell out the family name of Von Jallach in an alphabet that wizards have been known to use. Its nothing more than an obvious floor trap, the text for the room even said as much.
Any other prep to be done before moving on? Are you going to the double doors or backtracking to the first chamber?
DM RyckyRych
Opening the doors, you find a 10' passageway that quickly leads into a L-shaped room. To the east side you see a fountain, seemingly still in good repair. After tossing an item with Fizz's light into the room you can now see that a dwarf, badly beaten and still bloody from the events, is shackled to the south wall.
Fergus McDammitson
The headstrong paladin makes his way over to the dwarf.
Art thou awake, friend dwarf? who holdeth the key to thine chains?
Fergus also examines the shackles to see whether they are possibly breakable or whether they could be pulled away from the wall.
Not knowing whether this would be an Investigation or a Perception check, I'll roll both.
Investigation check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Perception check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
DM RyckyRych
Yes... I am awake... The dwarf lifts his head up to see who his rescuers are. That gnome... he had a key, I thought...
Going back to the gnome you just dispatched and making a more complete search, you find a key that looks that they will unlock the shackles that bind the dwarf.
Fergus McDammitson
Friends, let us remember to more diligently search rooms before we leave them.
Fergus tries to unlock the dwarf's shackles with the key they just found.
DM RyckyRych
While the rest of the party cares for the dwarf prisoner, Fizzlebomb examines the fountain. He discovers that the water is cool and pure—fed by an intact cistern in the ruins above. Other than that everything else about the fountain seems ordinary.
The shackles come off of the dwarf after some difficulty with the keys. Relieved to be rid of the binds, the dwarf thanks you and takes a couple of deep breaths as if trying to regain his composure. Spotting the town witch, the dwarf smirks and asks, So, you must be the rescue party, eh? Otherwise I don't see why you'd keep such pleasant company! Har-har!
Haldor Dagsson
I move over to the dwarf.Yes, we are the rescue party. By the way, do you have any clue where the other hostags are? (Apart from the witch.)
DM RyckyRych
The dwarf introduces himself as Adronsius, an alchemist. I know Mirtala is alive, but I'm not sure where they’re keeping her. I was brought to the upper level here for an "interrogation session" where I saw Jelissa.
Adronsius pauses a moment, as if trying to remember something. Now as you know, a dwarf remembers his way around these underground passages pretty well, especially for a guy who was blindfolded! After another quick pause he starts to rattle off directions. Down the stairs, straight across the entry chamber, turning left in the room that smelled of goblin, then left again in the room with the crackling sound, around two right corners, then through a room that smelled of the dead, then up the stairs to a room with a sticky floor, right and up another set of stairs, then through a dusty room and left through a door. The alchemist then gives a smile that turns into a hearty laugh. That good enough directions for ya?
Fizzlebomb
Is anyone keeping track of the the names of the missing people and the crossing them off as we find them.
Thank you Good Sir, I believe it's back to the entry and through the other doors, but I believe that we should be prepared as per our new charge's directions the door on the other side of the entry might smell of goblin.
DM RyckyRych
OK, where to and are you finished with healing, etc?
Fergus McDammitson
Is there any other exit out of this room than the way we came?
If not, I guess we backtrack to the first room, right?
DM RyckyRych
Proceeding with the directions the dwarf gave you, the party heads to the last door in the first chamber. After a check to ensure it is safe to open, you enter and find yourself in a hallway quickly turning to the north. This leads into an L-shaped room that has doors in the north and west walls. Around the periphery of the room are bedrolls, sacks, and a roasting rack near the brazier. A narrow fissure in the ceiling carries the smoke from the brazier away.
Also near the middle of the room is a group of angry hobgoblins! Their anger quickly turns toward you as they see and hear you coming down the hallway. One of them quickly says something you can't quite understand but the mob looks ready to attack!

Two of the hobgoblins fire their longbows while two others charge the front line!
Longbow vs Fergus: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 for Arrow: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Longbow vs Paul: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 for Arrow: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Longsword vs Paul: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 for Arrow: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The bowman's arrows find their marks but the longswords fail to damage their enemies! Though I think Fergus takes zero due to his feat.

Varis kills the wounded hobgoblin with his first strike! He then I would assume moves toward one of the remaining enemies but both his additional strikes fail to land!
The hobgoblin Varis accosted drops his bow, draws his longsword and tries to slice into the monk!
Longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 for Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
However the elf is able to dodge the blow at the last moment! The other hobgoblin retreats further into the room and fires an arrow at Paul!
Longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 for Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The arrow flies harmlessly toward the brazier in the corner of the room! The brazier, by the way, gives off light so I'll use our rock to illuminate the room.
