Meria Meridoath
A curse in abyssal springs unbidden to Meria's mouth as she stands. "This wasn't any normal dog. See here, shadowstuff. Likely a shadow mastiff." Meria's eyes follow the trail as she stares ahead. "Such a creature is dangerous. It has to be stopped." She turns to the others to see their reactions.
Kimiko
"Then I guess we should follow the tracks. Good thing you were able to identify them, as I was really not of a mind to follow a normal dog or wolf."
Kimiko
Kimiko nods to Ander. "So it seems. Hopefully nothing else will draw us further after we find and hopefully defeat the shadow beast."
Brakkart Delmadhi
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 1
"Please, Sarenrae, let your soothing flames wash over us and wash away these burns." Brakkart prays softly, before following after Meriadamocrates, and a soft orange glow pours out from the golden winged figure hanging at his neck, filling those nearby with a comforting warmth.
---
"What do we know of these Shadow Mastiffs?" the priest whispers as they approach the clearing, "if they are such dangerous foes, it would probably be better to avoid rushing in blindly."
knowledge(the planes): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

"It would seem our little shadow friend has decided to take up swimming. Meriadamocretes, please encircle the lake to see if you can find it's tracks leaving this pond. And be careful."
With a tsk, the eidolon begins circling the lake. Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
How big does this pond look, and how deep?
Kimiko
Kimiko, suspicious of the murky pond, lingers on its edge, one end of her kama swinging gently from her hand, the other end held tightly in her opposite hand, just in case. She constantly scans the surface of the pond for any movement.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
obviously in her nervous state, she is less observant than she could be

Kimiko
why do things always attack me first? lol... it just happened in my jade regent game too - twice in a row in two combats.... sigh
init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
well that sucked too
Brakkart Delmadhi
initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Seeing the shadowy beast launch itself from the murky waters of the pond and tear away a chunk of Kimiko's flesh, Brakkart sends another prayer to Sarenrae, "Please bolster us as we fight to bring your holy light into this dark place."
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Excluding the shadow mastiff, in case it is already wounded.

Ha, um wow, ok so its dead and stuff ha!The beast lays dead, its semi-corporal body quickly disintergrating, as the sun finally sets.
Welcome to Level 2
Just remember, that act of awesome will ensure I'll never hit anything EVER AGAIN in this campaign, lol.
Kimiko
"Thank you, Meria. I think you and your beast saved me this day." Kimiko looks down at the dead beast as she puts her weapon away, then at the bites on her body. "Brak, you too. Your healing too, saved me from dying at the shadow creature's teeth." Still, Kimi doesn't look too good, and she sways a little on her feet.

Kimiko
"Thanks, Brak... that does feel somewhat better. I'm sure the rest will recover in time. We should head back and report."

It is night time when you arrive back at Absolam. The lights of the city act as a bright beacon drawing you home. Already there is some talk on the streets of foul things coming from the portal by the Spire of Nex. Apparently more things have been coming out of the portal since nightfall.
Kimiko
Kimiko (along with the others, I assume), even though it is nighttime, goes in search of Master Gyasi to report the findings we made concerning the portal.
"Since things are still coming from the portal, Master Gyasi, we felt we should report immediately, rather than wait til morning. We have already slain a fire elemental and a shadow beast that came in through the rift, with reports of some kind of giant coming through and now rumors of other things as well that have come in through the portal since then."
The full tale is told, of the cultists, the reason given for the their actions, the fetchlings, all of it.
"I hope we have done well. Perhaps we should have stayed to battle more fiends from the portal, but they may never have stopped. We felt it important to report back and hopefully some way could be found to close the portal."
She pauses to give others a chance to chime in with details she may have forgotten, or perhaps even misconstrued.

Well, I do sense some kind... how to put it in words, bigger gears turning and us unable to stop it. In my opinion, we should push through that portal and chase after that fledling to prevent more catastrophes happening... since there seems already been sighting from normal civilians. Each minute and hour passing by just increase chance of something more sinister happening Anders explain with serious face
Kimiko
"One survivor was found. He told us of his cult which follows Lady Shadow. He said she is not a demon as some have called her, but she is from the Shadow plane. Last month she fell ill to an unknown illness. They contacted some Fetchlings he said they had dealings with in the past to help them find a cure. The fetchlings used them to break into the spire and probably loot whats inside. He claims the Gate was a booby trap set by the ancient wizard Nex. It is linked to a Demiplane with all kinds of nastys inside, maybe like a personal prision used for just this purpose. He claims a fire elemental, perhaps the very one we killed, came through the gate first, followed by some kind of ogre. The ogre hit him and he fell unconscious, so he could tell us no more of what happened after. He did say his Lady Shadow was of a people called the Shae, and their cult is headquartered in the sewers." Kimiko wracks her brain for more information but that's all she can recall right now.
Kimiko
Kimiko turns to the others and shrugs... "He seemed to react when I mentioned the fetchlings... I wonder what's up with that. I guess we've been dismissed though." She turns to leave with the others. "We'd best rest up while we can. Since things are still coming through the portal, our work may not be done and I'm still not fully healed. A little rest would do me a lot of good."
Brakkart Delmadhi
"Maybe he's dealt with them before," Brakkart comments, as they leave, "but you're right, we should probably get some rest soon, in case we're needed before the morning."
"And now we're back, let's seem if the Healing Light can do anything more for your wounds. I would have called upon the last of the healing at my disposal while we were in the field, but I figured it would be best to keep something in reserve on the chance we had an emergency on our way home."
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Kimiko
"Thanks Brak, that seems to have done the trick and you probably were right to keep something in reserve... someone might have gotten hurt even worse than I was after your initial healing brought me back. Not sure if I thanked you enough for that, but I did appreciate it."
Kimiko heads to her quarters where she does a few kata before settling down to rest, noticing a distinct improvement in her own technique while she practices. Satisfied, she curls up and sleeps for a bit...
Goulfvrim Knile
If you want to do something befor you sleep you may, I just want to keep the pace so I will post your dreams and next morning
When you all wake from your dream Goulfvrim comes to your rooms. Time to rise and shine. We got more work for the new wardens.Meet me in the common room in an hour. He says as he turns an hour glass on a stand next to the door.
Kimiko
my previous character was Varian, not Varos - was that just a typo then?
Kimiko wakes, sweating and with her muscles tight and aching. She diligently practices her kata despite feeling as if she'd already done so. Then she washes away the sweat of the night and her exercises and dresses for the day. Finally, she makes her way to the common room barely on time, running in at the last minute.
Meria Meridoath
As Meria awakes, she quickly dismisses the ancient being, uneasy about such strength. Meriadamocretes was enough to control.
Not really paying attention, she spends a few moments to regain the arcane energies spent yesterday before heading downstairs to wait.

Waking up and his body was tingling all over from the coldness. This sensation was something new but Anders heart was racing with excitement as he pictured his vivid dream once more.
Looking at his hands and imagining that powerful spell he had cast, burning hands... and hold monster, oh, that was indeed something useful but more the sensation of being far away somewhere else. Anders longed for spells and power... but also for freedom and his own way of doing things. Indeed if something was to be done, might as well do it himself.
Getting out of bed and getting his spellbook Anders spent a bit time to study and research his spell... and oddly there were more spells in his book than before. That book was old already but... surely he would have noticed if someone had wrote in it something. A bit doubtful idea in his mind Anders disregarded it and left his room soon to join with others
Yap, Varos was mine.

Ok cool. I just got the names wrong though, the rest should make sense.

You all arrive at the common room. There is some breakfast ready for you. After you are done with your meal no one has yet come down to meet you.
Kimiko
Kimiko waits patiently for the meeting for a good while, contemplating her new abilities and mentally preparing herself for whatever might come. When no one arrives after a long while, she finally speaks to her companions. "I wonder what's keeping Master Goulfvrim. It's not like him to be late. I hope he is well. If he doesn't come soon, perhaps we should seek him out." Obviously she has some patience but it has its limits.
Brakkart Delmadhi
Brakkart ate in silence, casting long glances down at the dusky blade hanging at his waist between mouthfuls of the breakfast, and only stirring when Kimiko spoke up.
"Hmm?" He asks, his attention suddenly returning to the room and those around him, "I'm sure he'll be here, and no doubt if we head off to look for him he'll arrive just after we leave."
