Nah. They're basically your primary Hope renewal resource. I say "your" because I can't benefit from it; cost of being a Ranger!
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Wait, Rangers can't use the Fellowship pool? Holy crap, that's a huge penalty.
Anyway, if everyone can recover their lost Hope using Fellowship Focus + the Fellowship pool, then I'd love to go ahead and do that so I have full Hope.
Mar the Dwarf |
I think I have it.
Experience Spent:
6 Raise Valour to 3. Gain Fell Handed Mastry
6 Raise Axe Weapon skill to 3
Advancement points:
Raise Insight to 1. 4 Points
I'm going to hold on to the other 6 I have. I need to save up to level my crafting to 4.
Fellowship Phase:
I'd like to go hunting with the Woodsmen, and spend the season with The Shepherd's people. I don't have access to the book so please tell me what that entails.
Anariel |
Yeah, Brandy; it makes Rangers hope misers for sure. They get some nifty stuff but it's a big hit
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Well, since nobody's asked me not to, I'm gonna leech 3 points out of the Fellowship pool during the Fellowship phase to regain my lost Hope. That leaves 4 points in it, and anyone that's still missing Hope should be able to refill it.
And then we start with a freshly cooked batch of Fellowship at the next adventure phase, aye?
Anariel |
Yeah, it always refills at the start of an Adventuring Phase.
The Shepherd |
Okay, I've advanced my character.
Bought Travel up to 1, Insight up to 2 in Common Skills and I'm going to save the other 4 advancement points.
With experience, I bought my axe skill up to 3, spear up to 2 and wisdom up to 3- working toward that hound virtue.
Does anyone else need Hope? I've spent two and since Mar has been fine the whole adventure, that should bring me up one right? Then I just need one from the fellowship pool to be completely refreshed.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Well, if I get 3 and you get 1 and Anariel doesn't need any, then the question is just whether Mar, Hanar, and Galadhon need any. Which... I don't think they do?
*Checks* They all seem full on Hope. Dwarves get 6+Heart, and Galadhon's page makes it pretty clear he's full. So yeah, you and I can refill Hope freely.
Mar the Dwarf |
We're still waiting on Hanar's adventure phase choices aren't we? I don't want to send the message to the fellowship if not everyone is done with their adventure phase.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
We DO move at kind of a breakneck pace. I have no qualms with waiting.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Totally unrelated aside: as I was leafing through the book I saw that monsters (orcs, trolls, etc) have their own weapons. I don't intend to do this unless it comes up (say as Tainted Treasure), but does the book say anything about getting skill points in those sorts of weapons? If not, what are your thoughts?
Hanar |
My apologies for falling behind. I was a bit under the weather. I'm back now, and will get caught up.
Mar the Dwarf |
For those of you who have played LOTRO in the past, the 10th Anniversary event is going on. I've played for six of the 10. I'm having a blast riding through Bree, and the Shire. This game is still one of the most beautiful I've played.
Edit: If you are playing on Landroval or want to play. (It's free to play, and really helped Middle Earth come alive for me.) Friend Alinniel. :)
Galadhon |
Mar, I'm on Landroval. My old Turbine characters seem to be gone (because I can't remember their names or even the server I was on)(I left when the maximum was level 85), so I've started a new Hunter. He's level 47 and puttering around Evendim right now. His name is Larimnil. I'll probably have to give him up in a few weeks when I go back to work.
I've been avoiding the Anniversary stuff. Is it worth it?
Mar the Dwarf |
Maybe. It's got some cool cosmetics and an awesome dragon horse this year. The scavenger hunt may be a too high level, but you can do the usual Anniversary stuff like the envelopes, firework, and delivery quests. You can also knock someone into next week at the Beer Brawl in Thorin's Gate.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Are we starting the new adventure? I can have Brandy make an appearance.
Hanar |
Throwing this out the first time just to make sure I am not doing anything wrong.

Does that all look correct?
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Okay, spent my Advancement Points:
Hunting - 0>1
Travel - 1>2
Hanar |
For raising my Wisdom, I chose the following Virtue:
Old Hatred - When you are fighting Orcs and their kind using hand-to-hand weapons, add a bonus of +3, or your Valour rating (whichever is higher), to the total Endurance loss inflicted by each of your blows.

Hey gang...so, some of my in-person friends that I run games for have moved away. I decided to run some stuff online for them, and wanted to run The One Ring. I decided to see if I could use roll20 a bit to do some neat stuff.
I went deeeeeeeeep into the rabbit hole. A brand sparkling new Pro account, some copy/pasted javascript and a whole lot of work later, I've been able to do some pretty neat stuff.
If you guys are interested, we could use roll20 for certain things. TOR is certainly not a super tactical game, but I like it for atmosphere. Also, I made (with the help of a lot of internet tutorials) a special Battle page. It has a mat that has all of the Stances on it. Moving your Token into the appropriate place on the page auto-sets the TN of your rolls to the appropriate number. I also set up macros for automated dice rolls as token bar actions. There's also special One Ring dice images, so you can see the Tengwar runes on sixes, the Gandalf runes on 12's and the Eye of Sauron on 11's.
If you're all interested, we could use that as a medium for battles. If not, then no worries. I just thought you might enjoy the fruits of my labor :p
Mar the Dwarf |
I don't mind. The only issue is Roll20 doesn't work well with phones so people might need to be able to move other people. We might want the ability to move everyone's token just in case someone can't do it themselves. I have an account already, and have used it for a couple of play by posts.
Anariel |
I'm game to try! Maybe my rolls in roll20 will be a little less ridiculous.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Roll20 is great. I don't use it for character sheets ever (my experience with its Pathfinder character sheets made me run away from it with both hands in the air), but it's a great way to game.
Anyway...
I'm cool with whatever. Just let me know what you decide.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Oh, I didn't think that, no. BUT SINCE YOU MENTION IT, if you ever do decide to run a new game on Roll20 for any reason please let me know.
I've already been talking about eventually trying to run this as a Roll20 thing myself when my weekly Emerald Spire game ends. We're level 6 now (about to be level 7 after we finish making fun of Klarkosh for being too easy to defeat).
Mar the Dwarf |
That's so funny Brandy. I really want to try Emerald Spire, but I don't have the home game group to try it.
Anariel |
I have the book but haven't gotten around to trying it out.

If you want, I can mention y'all to my GM for reference the next time he runs a new game of Emerald Spire. It's apparently one of his favorite dungeons ever - he's run it three times for three different groups, and likes seeing how new groups tackle it.
In fact, I could ask if he's planning to start any new runs of it any time soon if you want. I wouldn't be playing, as he wouldn't want to run for someone that's already done the Spire, but yeah. (And, and he's British, so expect European time zone friendly play times if he says 'sure!')
(Also, my advice is to NOT look up spoilers. Look up spoiler-free advice instead. My one suggestion is 'make sure at least half the team has Darkvision.' Oh, and optimization is good; you don't want to bring super experimental builds. I learned that the hard way by bringing my 6 STR bard... who has managed to survive by basically being the skillmonkey, healer, and tertiary spellcaster rolled up in one.)
Mar the Dwarf |
Is it on PbP or Roll20?
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Roll20.
Mar the Dwarf |
Ah. It would depend on days and times, but sounds like fun.
Galadhon |
I guess I'm the wet blanket. Roll20 always feels like a lot of extra gear for no particular advantage to me.
On the other hand, I love The Emerald Spire.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Yeah, I saw your Emerald Spire campaign and was tempted to throw my hat into the backup players ring, but I frankly figured you'd probably not want someone that's cleared through floors 1-6 already to join in.
But I'm impressed with the Spire. It has its faults (the GM has to create all the roleplay opportunities, basically), but it's a solid dungeon crawl. And if the GM does like RP, it DOES have opportunity to shine.
Mar the Dwarf |
If you need replacement players. I think you know where to find a couple.
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
On suspicion of my computer having a virus, I will be reformatting my computer. Expect 1-2 days of wait before I can post again. Sorry!
Brandoch 'Brandy' Marigold |
Firstly, I’m going to be posting different versions of this in different games that I’m in, but I want to make sure that it’s known why I’ve been absent for roughly a week - from the whole forum, not just this thread. And it goes like this:
1.So, as I probably posted previously, my computer decided to go berserk and I needed to reformat it.
2. It then decided that a day or two later would be a great time to die altogether. Problematically, I have no other device capable of browsing the web.
3. Then my nieces chose to visit for a couple days, and I was spending time with them.
4. At the same time, my mom has been recovering from surgery, meaning I’m doing more driving than usual…
5. ...my car wound up needing some heavy repairs…
6. ...and work has frankly become pretty uncomfortable for me, so I’m actively searching for a new job.
With all that said and done, I’ve lost a lot of spare time and a LOT of money. I did replace my computer (and hoo boy is the new computer nice), but as such I’ve realized that I’m going to have to drop out of a few games.
I will be STAYING in this game if you will allow me, but I feel I needed to give an explanation for my absence anyway. I’m about to go to work, so expect a post after I finish.
I apologize for the inconvenience, and I sincerely hope there’s no bad blood caused by my absence.
Mar the Dwarf |
I understand about life getting in the way. I hope the job hunts goes well, and a quick recovery for your mother.
Anariel |
Yeah, I'm sorry to hear it, man. Welcome back! Hopefully we can help provide a pleasant outlet for you.
