Kiyoshi Wakahisa
|
Kiyoshi scans over Theodores findings.
"Truely you are blessed by Qi-Zhong. But there are still letters missing? If we are to figure this out, where are the remaining letters?"
The priest stops as Okawe ducks through the vents.
"Are the letters through there?"
Okawe the Sword
|
Hearing the cleric, Okawe lets his voice carry back over his shoulder, saying, "Probably not, but I won't be any good to anyone looking for them. I'd like to look ahead to see if there are any more clues."
Theodore Field
|
Theo spluttered at Okawe slapping his back. He straightened up, massaging the rippling, tingling pain from his shoulders, but managed an appreciative smile at both Okawe and Kiyoshi.
"Heh, thanks. I guess Ive got the gods to thank for my brains. And the milkman for everything else." his smile turned sheepish as he looked up to the vent.
"What are we thinking? It'll lead to another of Zarta's stashes? Or out of here?"

You enter the vents, which are only three feet wide and three feet tall, forcing you to crawl. Occasional vents punctuate the walls and provide dim light throughout the tunnels.
At the first junction, the wall to the left of the fork is adorned with the head of a lion, cut off from whatever mural sustained it in the room below, and the right side of the fork shows an ancient banner unfurling.
Okawe the Sword
|
“I think that it would be difficult to kidnap a Pathfinder and walk out the front door with her, even if this is a conspiracy. They might have taken her out this way.”
After answering Theo’s question, Okawe moves to the fork and tries very very hard to perceive if anyone had travelled in either direction in this vent.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
if this takes longer than taking 20, Okawe takes 20

The vents are swept on a moderately regularly basis, and there is no sign of travel.
Dasim Travani
|
As Okawe starts to looks for signs of travel, Dasim thinks back to the message and says, "We've not much time. Look at that message from the desk again. The capitalized words. Vent, Lion, Scales, King, Centaur. We are in the Vent."
He gestures to the left fork, the one marked with the lion head. "Now we follow the path marked by the Lion. I say we go that way."
Okawe the Sword
|
"Ha ha! Well done fair Dasim! I am unaccustomed to such cleverness. In the Shackles, your might is your life..." Okawe trailed off, realizing his loud voice might get them in trouble if anyone passes by these vents. He simply follows Dasim's direction toward the lion.
Zander Scott
|
Zander likewise begins to fowwlow the others, impressed at their puzzle solving skills. Perhaps I will not need my bow on this mission, a welcome reprieve from the seemingly constant bloodshed of my duties as a Pathfinder.

Following along with Dasim's suggestion, you soon find yourselves at the end of the vent with a view of a much larger room.
This room is large and square. The walls glow with a gentle blue light, and the air feels unnaturally cool and dry. Shelves line the walls and stand in ranks through the middle of the room, punctuated by a wooden table and ornate chairs. An imposing, unoccupied desk faces the main entrance to the room. On an easel in one of the aisles is a map of the room.
Akinra

You are not yet in the room until you unlock/open/remove the vent in whatever manner you see fit then file in. That was for the leader to pass on, which I will assume he does. Feel free to discuss a plan.
Okawe the Sword

My B
Okawe relays what he sees through the vent, and asks what they think he should do while searching for a way to open the vent without removing it.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Akinra
|
The room appears completely empty save for the usual office furnishings, papers, and implements of a bureaucracy most foul.
Akinra
|
There may be another exit, but the racks of books and scrolls in addition to the file cabinets are doing a good job of hiding the perimeter walls.
Okawe the Sword
|
Okawe removes the vent cover carefully, and exits the cramped tube. Once out, he draws his namesake sword and dons his alligator hide, just in case, as he waits for those with keener senses to lead the way
Kiyoshi Wakahisa
|
Kiyoshi joins Okawe is redressing in his equipment, scannin the room as he does so.
"There must be something more to this place than meets the eye. I can't imagine the only entrance being through a vent."
Once redressed, and hopefully with the others help, Kiyoshi starts moving furtniture and trying to find a way out.

Map updated
This room is large and square. The walls glow with a gentle blue light, and the air feels unnaturally cool and dry. Shelves line the walls and stand in ranks through the middle of the room, punctuated by a wooden table and ornate chairs. An imposing, unoccupied desk faces the main entrance to the room. On an easel in one of the aisles is a map of the room.
The map indicates a door to the North. Peeking past the book cases, now that you are out of the vent, it seems rather obvious.
Dasim Travani
|
Dasim crawls out of the vent and dusts some of the dirt and grime from his coat and pants. As he does so he tries to get an understanding of how the books in the library are organized.
"I wonder if there's something in one of these books or scrolls that will offer us another clue as to what happened." He says while starting to examine a few of the books and shelves more closely.
Do the books have a similar number code to the codes found in Zarta's study?

From this distance, you can barely make out the labels on the cabinets. They are labeled, starting to the north, and working clockwise, “Internal Security: Receipts,” “Internal Security: Evidence,” “Imperial Security: Dossiers,” and “Imperial Security: Misc.” There is a large library table with several (six) chairs at the center of the room.
Okawe the Sword
|
Okawe walks over to the cabinet labelled "Internal Security: Evidence" and takes a closer look at the outside and inside, searching for any hint of shenanigans.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Realizing he wouldn't know a shenanigan if it bit him in the hind-parts, he called Theo over and asked him to take a look.
Theodore Field
|
Theo moved over to Okawe and thumbed his way through the cabinet "Internal Security: Dossiers"
"Don't worry friend, we'll make short work of this."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Or not apparently
Akinra

As you pass the center of the room, one of the chairs leaps to life and attacks!
Perception checks for those who have not done so to determine surprise round please. Please also post an Initiative so you can determine whether or not you act before or after the chair in the Surprise Round. DC 15 to act in surprise round on the Perception Check.
Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14

The chair charges (-2 AC, +2 to hit) at Okawe!
To Hit: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11
And bounces off the fighter, inflicting no harm at all.
Kiyoshi and Dasim Surprise Round actions please.
Kiyoshi Wakahisa
|
Unable to reach Okawe swiftly enough, Kiyoshi turns his attentions to Theodore, placing a hand on him.
"Qi Zhong guide you against this 'creature'."
Kiyoshi will take his standard action to cast Guidance on the adjacent Theodore.
Dasim Travani
|
Dasim looks up from the files in time to notice the chair starting to move. "Look out. He hisses while moving toward the animated furniture.
Drawing his rapier he attempts to knock the thing aside.
Attack Chair: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Confirm Critical - If it counts: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

All those with higher I it than the chair please for round 1
Theodore Field

Theo looked blankly at the chair momentarily.
"Did that chair just... move?"
Move action: Draw shortsword
Move action equivalent: Acrobatics check to tumble 15 feet
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Akinra

The chair, now in position, continues its attack.
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
and continues to be as ineffective as possible.
Everyone up, since you will all act again before the chair.
Akinra

Everyone else proves just slightly more effective than the chair, which again attempts to bounce off the mighty warrior.
To Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 Lucky for the warrior, he is able to deflect the blow with his defensively held greatsword.
Everyone up again!
Okawe the Sword

Encouraged by Kiyoshi's Guidance, Okawe picks up his greatsword with both hands and comes down on the chair hard. Power Attack
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 + 3 = 17

On the off chance that Okawe hasn't turned that into firewood:
Standard Action: attack the chair
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
weapon damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
sneak attack: 1d6 ⇒ 2
