Ophelia: love the coiled wire whip for a clockwork bard :)
Yeah - felt like a natural fit : )

I did a search for dwarven language on my phone last night. I'll see if I can find it again.
Found it. http://www.stormnexus.org/Dwarven_Language Don't know anything about the site, or what their dwarven is based on, but it seemed to have a pretty good vocabulary so I just went with it.

Updated my status bar to include the effects of my Bardic performance - you don't have to unless Spooky wants, as long as he remembers : )
And you seems to have been a bit to generous on the initiative rolls for Ophelia. She has a +2 in base and +1 from Walter, which would total up to +3 and not +5 (not that it mattered - nor am I complaining). Just wanted you to know incase it matters in the future

Okay, I am back!
I was caught in the travel snarl through the weekend and completely lost contact with everything as I ran around trying to find a way home and sleeping in hotels in strange cities and everything.
Sorry about that. I'll get caught up now.
Ophelia Hale
Yeah : /
Spooky hasn't posted anything since the 17th, so I think that is what happened. He might have gotten sick or are struggling with some other problem, I don't know.
It's a shame really, this game was fun. Hopefully he will come back soon : )
Dara Shadeshard
Just a heads up. I'm moving offices at work sometime this week, and I don't know if the I'll be able to access the forums as frequently. So my posting my drop a bit. Thought you should know.
Spooky GM
Okay, so I'm writing up a quick summary and fade-to-black resolution of the first case so that the two new additions can have it summarized and shit for them.
1) There is a vault full of the cache from the bandits that you and Jack both worked to wipe out. It's got some money, gems, mundane equipment, couple magic-ey things. What do you do with its contents? Do you keep it, or submit it to the Watch as stolen property?
2) What do you do with Jack's body?
Walther
I expect that Laznist will want to give the guard all the loot, but I'd suggest that any coin (that isn't in a unique coin purse) and anything else that can't reasonably be matched to it's original owner would be more useful for us than sitting in some storage locker.
As for the body, my book about Jacks will be much improved by accurate drawings; especially by anatomical diagrams pointing out the location of vital organs and any unexpected defences.
Shang the Apothecary
1. Shang would be perfectly happy claiming the bandits' loot, but will not resist if other party members would rather return it.
2. Shang would also like to help with the anatomy and dissection of Jack. He would love to learn more about the body and how it functions, and whether there are alchemical reagents he can harvest.
Ophelia Hale
1) Ophelia has a severely underdeveloped moral compass, so she is content to let the others decide. And watch and learn : )
2) Likewise, essential concepts such as death and decomposition isn't Ophelias strong suit. She probably won't think much about what to do with the corpse, but if others are going to cut it up she would like to watch. Always fascinating to see how things work !
Laznist
All right, just had an absolutely enormous post eaten. Here is the not so pretty summary of it.
Laznist has two issues; moral and legal.
Morally he's CG so he's okay with taking this blood-money so long as it gets used for good; and funding the group's activities (paying for things like scrolls and items used to kill monsters and save people) qualifies. Turning it over to the guard doesn't mean it will get back to the owners anyway. He could do a better job of tracking down owners than the guard.
Legally he doesn't want to get charged for murder or robbery. They can probably do a good story about the people here being in league with Jack - except for this last victim. If that victim can be gotten rid of (which he's a bit queasy about) then they can probably get away with it.
Assuming that they can convince this guy to rabbit to some other city or something, so much the better. I've got ideas about how to do that.
He is against turning over part of the loot because he thinks it will just raise too many questions in the guards' minds.
Heck, worst case they could take the salable stuff, leave the door open and wait for some other gang to come in, take the other stuff and clean up the mess.
I'm a little vague on the cities laws in cases like this, how much they'll care, and in how good they are at catching people in situations like this.
Spooky GM
Even discounting for things like city officials being vampire thralls, Korvosa is not exactly on the up-and-up. There's a lot of corruption and not a lot that's really been done about it in some parts of the city. Even if you're answering to some of the more straight-seeming officials in the city, they're not likely to give you much trouble if you had to defend yourself against bandits, especially in a place like The Shingles where that's a very common occurence. If you start leaving a trail of bodies in your wake that aren't very clearly necromancers or evil clerics, you might run into a few problems, but until you start looking visibly corrupt you're more than likely to just be seen as a bit more aggressive than subtle.
It depends on exactly how honest you feel like being, I suppose, but this won't get you into very hot water. You're allowed to police the populace to a degree. Of course, going off and doing city cleanup on the side will get you good points with your bosses and probably cause a lot of strife with the actual guard.
Anyway, here's the sellable stuff out of the loot. There are some things a little more clearly marked--family crests, a jacket with a mundane letter in its pocket, that sort of thing--that aren't of much value and can be either turned into the guard or, should Laznist feel like spending a day of the week's downtime returning things, be done that way. Figure out what of this you guys want to take, and we'll go from there.

I'd say we keep the Jack's knife - so we can have a trophy room or something later : ) Raw money isn't easy to return either, but if we can we could certainly return the things we can identify. Might always help to build some goodwill!
Spooky GM
We're going to abstract these out for the sake of finishing up with the Jack case entirely before the game reopens, but future delivery things if they show up will actually be played out. I just don't feel like making people come in and bore them with playing out the item delivery from stuff they weren't around for. Make the rolls if you have the appropriate skill.
-There is a small locked chest with a family's crest intricately burned into the wood. Knowledge (Nobility) to identify the family in question.
-A Korvosan messenger's coat with documentation from the merchant's guild sealed with wax and addressed to a Chancellor. The coat and letter can be delivered fro the city chancery.
-A coin purse embroidered with the seal of Sarenrae. It's bulging and full of coins, but mostly SP and CP. Knowledge (Religion) to identify it.
Delivering the items will take a day, as will examining Jack's body. Walther and Shang, make Knowledge (Nature) rolls, and Shang, make an additional Heal roll. After harvesting and anatomizing the corpse, you may dispose of it, have it taxidermied as a trophy, or offer it to either Alandre or the mage academy.
Which leaves enough time for a job money roll.
Shang the Apothecary
My rolls:
Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Heal: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Profession(Apothecary: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Craft(Alchemy): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Walther
Knowledge (Nobility), using a Chronicle: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 = 8
Knowledge (Religion), using a Chronicle and the library: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 + 3 = 21
Knowledge (Nature), using a Chronicle: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13 (+2 if regretable knowledge applies, +5 if monster lore applies)
Giving the corpse to the mages sounds good to me.

Know(Nobility), using Lore Master: 20 + 8 = 28
Know(Religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

edit: So that was not the correct term to make 'or' statements. Lemme try some more :D
test1: 1d51d5 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
test2: 1d5 ⇒ 41d5 ⇒ 2
test3: 1d5 ⇒ 31d5 ⇒ 5
test4: 1d5 ⇒ 51d5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
test5: 1d5 ⇒ 21d5 ⇒ 4
test6: 1d5 ⇒ 51d5 ⇒ 1
edit:Doesn't seem to be a way using common commands...
Craft(Clockwork), downtime earning; Shop + Tireless logic + Masterwork tools: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 2 + 10 = 271d20 + 10 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 + 10 = 30 <-the higher one

Thanks Spooky, in that case I think Laznist would be more tractable to selling things.
If the group's okay Laznist will spend a day returning things.
Lanist is going to feel like a bit of a dummy as the group explains things to him, I think ;P
My/Laznist's vote is:
Keep ie donate to group operating funds/armory
-Jack's Dagger
-Universal Solvent
-3 Smokesticks
-2 Tangefoot Bags
-2 Flasks of Acid
-1 Flask of Alchemist's Fire
-Wand of Cure Light Wounds (30 charges remaining) is this Arcane or Divine
-3 Potions of Cure Light Wounds
-4 PP, 1673 GP, 300 SP, 842 CP

Sell (assuming no-one needs them)

-Signal Whistle
-Thieves' Tools
-40 Arrows
-20 Daggers

Laznists division seems fine (except I assume some of that money is in the pouch we will be returning) but I do feel we should probably hang onto the Comprehend LAnguages potion - it doesn't sell for much and it might be good to have : )

Together, Shang and Walther dissect and examine Spring-Heeled Jack. The creatures rarity and evasiveness make this a rare, nearly unprecedented opportunity. Walther gathers all the information he needs to write an informative book about the fey creature and its weaknesses. Shang is able to harvest some internal waste from Jack that can be made into an oil that can be applied to weapons. It functions as a Weapon Blanch (Cold Iron), except it works for a number of successful attacks equal to (roll Craft (Alchemy) and we'll find out). He also harvests a fluid from Jacks' lungs responsible for his ability to breathe fire, and it allows him to create two flasks of Alchemist's Fire that deal 2d6 damage on a direct hit and two damage of splash damage (Craft DC 30).
The chest is identified as belonging to the Rognar clan, a family of Dwarven artisans. The coin purse is identified as being the simple bag often used by clerics to transport donations gathered on the streets or for paid services back to their temple.
EDIT: No, the coinage counted is entirely from loose change/coin purses so generic they can't really be returned. I do second keeping the potion though; it won't get you much, and has some very definite uses. The wand is Divine, as it belonged to the now-dead cleric who presumably had the coin purse.
Spooky GM
I'd actually suggest that Shang takes the Theives Tools, if not buy a Masterwork set of his own, since with Dara gone he's now on Disable Device duty.
From the sale of all the items, you each get a total of 645 gold, seven silver, and three copper.
When the chest is returned, the relieved blacksmith who once again has his family's heirloom chest offers you a 5% discount on masterwork weapons. The couriers and chancellor are thankful for the return of both their slain brother's coat and for the delivery of the letter and they like you more. The cleric of Sarenrae present when Laznist brings the stolen donations thanks the shit out of him and they too now like you more.
We're going to be using both the reputation system the game has, and also an "I don't divulge the numbers" system of my own for the various factions and groups in the city that I will keep completely shadowy and vague. Just to make the city feel a bit more vivid and let your actions have a little more impact.
Now that you have completed your first case, fame now kicks in. You get fame equal to your level plus your Charisma modifier, and one additional fame for killing Jack. If you want to brush up on the rules and how you can do stuff, refer to this page.
Spooky GM
No, I kept the potion and tools out so that if you did sell them, I could just add. Easier that way.
We have one vote for giving the corpse to the mages. I meant to say the other option was Valiel, not Alandre. If anyone wants to grab the knife, it's apparently still open. Might be a decent thing to take considering its effect, and also it looks pretty damn cool.
Walther
Wand of Cure Light Wounds (30 charges remaining) is this Arcane or Divine
Divine by default, but not really relevant to wands. If it's on your spell list, you can use it. That means that pretty much every divine caster, plus bards, witches, and (I think) alchemists can use it without having to roll UMD.
As for the dagger, that should definitely be carried by someone who will make good use of it; probably one of the newcomers since none of the rest of us really use daggers normally.
I'll aid Shang on those Craft (Alchemy) checks.
Aid Another Craft (Alchemy): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Aid Another Craft (Alchemy): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Since the d20pfsrd version of the fame chart has messed up superscripts, here's the table on the PRD.
Spooky, since we're using the UC fame system, does that mean we're using the UC prestige point system? There's probably something of interest to me in there; I've never really looked at it before.
