Oh, I should add the reason for Pain joining or accepting invitation to the syndicate.
So he has an outstanding bounty on his head of 10,000pp and decided that the syndicate would be the best place to continue his butchery while having some protection to keep him from prison (where he can't get paid to kill) as well as allowing him interaction with a vast diversity of people who may know a thing or two about dragons' dwellings. As well as a library with some unread books on dragons.
EDIT: I should also add that the poster does not contain a picture, as they do not know exactly who is the one causing the murders. The bounty is for the one who captures the criminal alive and brings him in for questioning, should he turn out to be guilty. Obviously he keeps the fact that it's him a secret.

Nurob was happy; he as a respected local councilman he had a little power and with that he could get things other could not. Like the documents he now held. They could make a some nice coin for him. He heading down to see Maka to talk over their blackmail plan. A fat cat trader was going to pay them well. He slipped in to Old Beekys Inn and made his way to the booths at the back. Maka local criminal was going to meet him there. Nurob slipped open the door and backed in. He was checking he was not seen. Once he had the door closed he turned around says.
"Maka have I got the papers, can you but on the sqwee..."
He stopped talking, where Maka normally sat there was now a Gold haired Aasimar, some elf as well buy the look of her. Well dressed black wings looking at him with shaded classes. Look just out of her 100s, 119 120 may be, could be one of Maka's girls.
"Err where Maka girly?"
She took a moment to look him up and down, then said in a clear voice.
"O Mr Makadreen decided to give up his life of crime and has gone the local temple to confess all."
It took a moment, then he burst out laughing after a while he stopped.
"Joker, funny Girly, but no really! where's he gone?"
She looked him in the eyes.
"As I said, He has decided to give up his life of crime, so now Mr Nurob Alfeen Gib please take a seat, I would like to have some words with you."
Now he looked shocked, The law? the investigator? who the *&^%,
All this ran through his mind, she even knew is real full name,
She has got to be in the crime gang, ye they wanted him for a job, must be, yer now he was going to be in the big time. He sat and looked at her, She poured him a drink of tea. He did not take it, but she had a sip of hers. As she did he felt his leg under the table for his poison tipped dagger.
"Mr Gib you have come to our attention in regards to some documents you stole a few days ago from the Loin Inn, from room 10 to be precise, the ones that you’re now thinking about in your top breast pocket."
He looked at her shocked,
"A Mind reader!"
So she knew some things, did she know he was working outside the local gangs?. So had robed a bent trader, had that fool hired a her, that's who this B&** was. Someone looking to get the documents back. Good so now they would talk money. It was going to cost, What he had in his pocket was evidence of bribery that would mean a hanging in this city.
He said clearly, cutting point.
"40,000 in uncut gems, that's price, here tomorrow and the papers are your. Any funny stuff the papers find there way to the law and ill some Guys come see you, Half giants can be so mean."
She sipped her tea again looking at him coldly
"No Mr Gib, I think you’re just going to hand me the papers right now, really that would be a very good idea don't you think so."
She held her hand out and before he knew what he was doing he handed them to her. He had really wanted to, really. She popped them the folds of her clothing.
He shook his head,
"Err what just happened...WHAT THE...!!"
He went for his dagger pulling it out and then froze. The pain in his head was unbelievable he held his head. She had not moved, she still sat there sipping her tea.
"Thank you Mr Gib, now you have tried to hurt me with poison no less, I don't feel bad about what I have to do, not that I would anyway. You’re a stupid man and now evil things are going to happen to you."
He was frozen with pain, she stood and walked round the table to his side. She was tall, a noble there was no mistaking that now. Something very worrying about this elf girl, Then it hit him. Black wings, he had heard something about.. He could only move his eyes, the pain he felt was like nothing he had known, he fell to the floor holding his head.
"Me Gib you made a number of mistakes, you should have checked your mark, you should have fully read the papers I now have and you should never have thought about blackmailing the Syndicate."
She was now looking down at him.
"So with your mistakes I am sorry to say I have been ordered to set and example. Your do understand, this is not at all personal it’s just business."
His mind raced,
Syndicate? Who the.. O!! ^#&& *#^#&*! the Shadow Syndicate!! O my gods!!, The @&@& Shadow Syndicate!!!, i'm #^#^&!!!
"Yes, I can see it in your mind, you just worked it out, now please try not to..."
To late he had messed himself there on the floor.
"O well, it will wash out, now then, as I was saying, the Syndicate likes to set examples. You know for others of your kind who may be thinking of doing something like you. So a short distance from here we have renting a shop, empty now but I think the window display tomorrow will be most interesting."
Now he was whimpering as fear took him.
"In a moment some some mean men from the Syndicate are going to take you to this shop, there they are going to skin you alive and place your dying body in the window as a display tonight. Come daybreak all the world will see you dead body. The local underworld around here will get the message, Don't ^#%#& with the Shadow Syndicate and we can get on with our business as normal. Not that you will be around to see that. I am telling you this now so you know why and how you died in your afterlife. If your end up in the hells, I should warn the Shadow Syndicate has friends there as well, so this could be only the beginning of your troubles. Well time if money, so we best get started."
She sat back as he was taken away, It has taken her but a few hours to track him down. Really the stupidity of some types, O well. She got up and checked the time, If she was lucky she would just make the start of that new play at the play house. She left by the front door, her slaved meet her and she headed off into the day, just another young noble woman out shopping.

I am reopening this to replace a few lost characters, I will take an additional 1-2. It's kinda ground to a halt right now. (Partially my fault.) But I would like to get it revved up again. If I don't hear from my current players, I may just kinda start over with 4-5 PC's .
25pt Buy.
Gestalt 3rd Level to start.
2 traits, a drawback for a third.
Max hp at first 3 levels for you and your pet and familiars. Roll after or PFS average.
Class gold to start.
Allowed content. Tentatively all including 3pp. I reserve the right to request you to change anything that is too ridiculous, but really this is the fun in this kind of game IMO.
You may take templates by knocking levels off one side of your Gestalt. Please avoid gained templates at creation as I would prefer to roleplay you becoming a vampire or being possessed or what have you. Also nothing over Cr+3 ie Mighty.
Please write an interesting backstory and let me know how your character came to be skilled, what he or she did before becoming inducted into the Shadow Syndicate, your personality and so forth.
Campaign Traits:
Warriors from all lands: The presence of so many cultures bring warriors from all places. You gain exotic weapon proficiency as a bonus feat.
Ex-Militia: You were a member of the massive guard force and have had some experience bullying people: You gain +3 to intimidate and it is always a class skill for you.
Classically trained: You were taught at the Mage Academy and can gain a metamagic feat for free.
Fringe Magic: You are a student in an advanced field and can learn 2 spells or equivalent from spellists other than your own.
Street Urchin: Raised on the dangerous streets of Monsulla you gain +2 to disguise or sleight of hand and one of these is a class skill for you. In addition you gain a +2 to stealth.
From the Mines: You've spent much time in the Salt mines, either as a slave a guard, a cart loader, or foreman. Your eyes have adapted, you gain low light vision. If you have low light vision, you gain darkvision, if you have dark vision, its range is doubled and you gain color spectrum.
Hawker: You sell things, a lot. You gain +3 to appraise and +3 to perception to notice things of value.
Syndicate Aspirant: You have been infatuated with the stories of the Shadow Syndicate and have tried to gain their notice for some time now. Practicing the shadow craft as you perceive it. You gain +2 to initiative and +2 to confirm crit rolls.

'Raises hand'
Taking already part on the recruitment thread "Lastwall" but I am interested to get also character rolling here.
Having interest to this kind of game. Would like to submit ##Areth Stormwind## Gunslinger/Inquisitor
First time doing Gestalt character for judging so might take a bit time plus missing all information so far under my character.

Gunslinger/inquisitor, very interesting
I'm a machinesmith/alchemist (vivisectionist)
I'm one of the original characters
I am a mad scientist
I take care of traps and am good at melee, and can heal decently well with either my repair flesh ability or with potions
We also have a slayer/investigator still on the team
What we really need is a primary caster,
Areth Stormwind
Well, what I am trying to find out with this guy is face-to-face fighter (I might get pistollier archetype) who sneaks past you and find out everything about the target (infiltrator archetype). Casting his spells to supplement his close or ranged fighting, able to get in and out of house, disguising and blackmailing (intimidate & bluff), stealing (sleight of hand).
He has quite a huge range of versatility now that I think about it. Working at the moment on his background.
Areth Stormwind
A long amount of time has passed since Areth was born in Monsulla. He has seen good and bad during his lifetime but so far mostly bad things have happened to him. It was quite normal actually, most of the children from the poor people were orphans at sometime because of many circumstances: parents were dead, they threw the kid out due to financial problems, kids escaped from home because of beatings and abuse and so on.
Nothing new to him though, he had outlived his abusive father and mother in that sense, thank god for that loanshark taking care of them, although it resulted for him being orphan from a young age. Doing what he had to survive in the streets Areth stole his food, was part of one of the streetgang kids but they were not doing so well compared to others although he was faring well.
During one of his scavenging trips Areth saw how a foreigner threw away something with a disgusted face. Rushing towards the item before someone else could get it, Areth got his hands on something strange he never had seen. A long pipe like item with some strange clicking mechanismus. A youth like him were fascinated by it and he was like possessed towards the item. As time went by and Areth grew he came to learn at somepoint that these things were called guns, more precisely pistols which were being produced in Numeria.
Having interested in it and just playing with it like any normal kid Areth visited time to time in Library and Blacksmith to learn about these things but with bad results due to no previous knowledge of such things, like he would say, they did not exists or were so famous until later in his teenage days.
As he grew up his criminal ways continued and he soon became accustomed with the jail time and beating from other gangs as well adults who caught him. Along that he passed time with tinkering with his favorite toy until he could dismantle & build it again and again with his eyes close and one-hand tied behind his back. During one of those tinkering sessions in Jail he was approaches by one of the cities clerics. Interested in the youth like Areth, Father Tim wanted to improve their attitude and change their way of thinking. Tooking Areth with him to his House and teaching him about the way of Gods and goodness, began one phase in Areths life for the next few years until his late twenties. Learning to write as well read Areth was doing well and there was even inclining to divine magic. Areth was also lucky since Father Tim had done some adventuring himself during his youth and was able to advice Areth about his toy – first time learning it proper name and what it was. Unfortunately Father Tim died during one of the more brutal gang fights and Areth was soon again left alone. It did not take a long time until Areth again soon collapsed back to his criminal ways but this time he was wiser and older, had a new found powers and also learned to tinker his pistol in working condition.
As time passed Areth found his true calling: Even thought there is good in all of us, in some of us it is in smaller quantities than in others... and I am one of those. I have never really learned to be a good person and I never had the incline to be a good person. deep in this thoughs Areth recalled his life and realised that even though Father Tim was a good person and Areth had appreciated his time with him, it was boring and he had not really ever wished for it. There was certain excitment and desire to just do what you wanted but there had to be rules. Even his powers were more profane than sacred as he had some strange connection with night, as the darkness helped him to hide even better to the shadows. Though he missed the old man and his companion, which he would never admit to anyone
Life continued and Areth had reached his middle-age. He had found during the last decade how to really make his Pistol functional and even make it shoot. Something truly extraordinary as he was practising endlessly with his new weapon. He had found knowledge from one of the harbour bars, where a drunken gnome from Numeria had told him against price of some beers, how to craft some bullets and how the gun really operated. Finding it quite expensive but who care, he anyway stole his stuff so it was all fine and well. A weapon he could use in both close-fighting & ranged-fighting.
Areth had soon established his fame around Harbour between criminal- and streetgangs with his brutal methods of eliminating people, both from close- and range-fighting, appearing from the shadows and darkness, silently stalking his victims as he casted his magic to silence them or hide his appearance only to appear next to you as a stranger, gun pointing at your head and his words whispering last words to you Hasta la vista, meatbag

Another player from the game. I would point out that your NG, there's no good guys among us. Not even enough to fill a pixie's martini glass buddy. Best keep that in mind. ;)
But really I would advise you branch out in your combat abilities. A gun is a very exposing and flashy weapon in many respects. Some missions, like the one we are currently on, will require the least amount of notice we can muster. Have a dagger or bow at least, if things go bad then bring out the big guns sense at that point it no longer matters. More then a figure of speech in your case.

I'm interested if there's still a spot. I'm running a game with a somewhat similar theme, and have kinda been itching to play something like it.
Given that there's a Machinesmith, I'm assuming the setting is kinda Steampunk-ish? If that's the case, would Thunderscape classes be allowed? They're 3PP, but not on the SRD. I have access to the book though, and could send it to the GM...though it'd be understandable if he wouldn't be interested in reading a whole 'nother book.
What's the current party make-up? I see Slayer/Investigator and Machinesmith/Alchemist.
Why do you need a full caster? Is it more for condition removal and utility? A game like this is probably more fun run with a game of 6th and 4th level casters, primarily.
Thinking of something like a Dread (Psionics class)/Stalker (Path of War) for a "blends into the shadows and teleports around" vibe, but I could revise that based on party make-up.

The curent machinesmith is from the region of numeria,
I said primary caster because it's something we don't have
We don't need it persay, but it's generally agreed that having one is a good idea
A caster could also help as a sort of inside man on our current job involving the infiltration of a mage's guild
I was asking for some casting because so far we have hitting things, and drinking potions as what both of our current party members do
We have no black Mage to "cast the spells that make the people fall down!"
No giggling pyromaniacs
No wannabe dark gods or even worshipers of eldritch horrors
No wizards questing for knowledge that man was not meant to know
No necromancer or even necrophiliacs
No seductive enchantress/illusionists
No self centered master of the mind
Rynjin
I'm not a very good caster player is the main issue. I generally only play casters who toss buffs around (and mostly on themselves).
Though I do like Oracles, and might be interested in playing a Psion too (close enough, right?).
It looks like you lack a ranged character, so perhaps a hybrid blaster/other ranged character for a poor man's Arcane Archer? Could fill the arcane assassin archetype, much like Festus Krex from Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood. "you know the old saying: When life gives you lemons... Go murder a clown.""
Virgil Hass

@Rynjin: Magus has an awesome (but hard to pronounce or spell) archer archtype called myramadirch
And if you want psionics and ranged, there is the marksman class,
A lot of psionic classes would go decently with magus, ageis, psion, soulknife, marksman,
Lots of options there mechanically, just need a good flavor
@areth: I've found it's generally best to stick to one primary mental stat, (say an alchemist /wizard or an oracle/sorcerer if you want a good necromancer)
But whatever you feel you'll have fun with is the important part
Rynjin
The main issue with the Myrmidarch is Diminished Spellcasting, which really puts a damper on being any sort of blaster mage.
I may roll with a Hawkguard Warder/Soulbolt. Still has a similar flavor of attacking people with my mind, and the Solar Wind Disipline has some neat flashy stuff I've used before.
Or I could go with something a bit more subtle. Something like a Telepath Psion/Wizard or Sorcerer/Occult Oracle.
I'll play around with some stuff.
Virgil Hass
|
The limited spells can be worked around with a second casting class, but even still that's a good point,
Telapath/wizard's pretty clasic,
So is sorcerer/oracle
Whenever you have more details, stuff like gender, personality, mystery/bloodline/specialty school/archetypes, race, future build plans etc be sure to post!
Rynjin
You know, you're right. I forgot I could take the Broad Study Arcana to let me use spells from other lists. Though I'd have to go without armor, which is a bit dicey.
I think I'll go Card Caster/Kensai and just do with with Thrown weapons.
Weekends are kinda busy for me though, so it probably won't be until Monday evening that I can really get to work on anything concrete. backstory and such usually falls into place pretty easy when I have what I can do picked out.
DM Malleus
Just at the cabin for the weekend and waiting to see if there was any more interest than just you Master Grovo. Now that it looks like we have two solid entries when Rynjin is finished with crunch we can get rolling again.
You can change if you want, but I love gunslingers and Areth seems pretty cool, we'll have to see how he adapts to the cold brutal efficiency of the group.
Rynjin
What's our party's main schtick?
Are we primarily assassins, thieves, information gatherers, etc., or do we dabble in a bit of everything?
Basically, should my loadout of spells and powers be primarily geared towards wet work or utility?
Currently I have these as the ones in my spellbook:
1st level: Mage Armor, Shield, Obscuring Mist, Snowball, Discern Next of Kin, Identify, Anticipate Peril, Color Spray, Feather Fall
2nd level: See Invisibility, Spider Climb
And Evocation and Enchantment are my Opposed Schools.
Discern Next of Kin in particular I figured would be uniquely valuable in this line of work.

We are assassins by occupation for now, but we also do a little bit of other things requiring discretion and a lack of morals and cost lots of money
On the other hand, we're villains, we have plans of our own
Virgil plans to build utopia, constructs providing labor and supplementing the keeping of the peace, allowing most everyone to devote their time primarily doing what they want to do instead of what they must do to survive
He foresees a massive increase in scholars, artists, engineers, alchemistand spellcasters
The problem is that first the easiest rout to getting this would involve going to war with Numeria.
As to what I can do
I can heal and I have sneak attack, mutagen, and a robot flanking partner/additional fighter for melee
I can bypass and disable traps
I also do a decent job as a skill monkey
Areth Stormwind
Hm, that is interesting. I do see Areth bringing to the group Infiltration skills (Stealth, Disguise, Intimidation, Diplomacy, Bluff, Sense Motive) as well working as Assassin (Hitting damn hard when I get my 2 judgements up + wisdom dmg buff)
Also getting my acrobatics + disable device up for some more forward marching and advancing.
Hm, otherwise not sure where I should go with Areth otherwise. Maybe something along his own small branch / organisation to oppose Red Mantis Assassins
Virgil Hass

Cool, be sure to put in a story reason why he feels they need to be opposed in the first place.
It doesn't have to be complicated it just has to exist
And just in case you haven't read the gameplay, here's our curent job
Agents, well done on your first task. Others for the time being are moving in the shadows as we do to address the situation. As for you, Joran has been made aware of your promotion to Agent. Congratulations. It is a little bit quicker than normal, but you've all proven yourselves quite competent, well, those of you that remain anyway.
Your next task is an infiltration. You must go to the Academy and enter the 6th floor of the complex, two levels above what students are normally allowed, there will be sporadic faculty and I would hope that casualties could be kept to a minimum as I don't wish to draw unwanted attention to your activities right now. On the 6th floor the Grandmaster of the Academy and the Leader of the Mage's Collective is quartered. He is a powerful spellcaster, possibly above the likes of you. He is away however for several days and during that time, I would like you to liberate several documents and any magical artifacts you find in his personal safe.
Return them to Joran when you have succeeded.
-Stay in shadow,
-A Friend.

Nearing completion with Frederick's crunch and hammering out fluff. Just need to pick Traits (one of which will probably be Fringe Magic) and what little gear I can afford.
When you say "class gold", what do you mean? Max, average, or roll?
I have these skills currently:
Autohypnosis
Spellcraft
Kn. Arcana
Kn. Religion
Kn Dungeoneering
Kn. Planes
Intimidate
Heal
Those last two are primarily so I can torture people for information if necessary, so if using Heal for that is a no-go (because it's another skill or some such) I'll swap that out.
Basic Frederick: He is a 165 year old Grimspawn (Daemon blooded Tiefling) who worships Norgorber, primarily his Reaper of Reputation aspect (the gatherer of secrets as opposed to the assassin Blackfingers and thief Gray Master).
He's a curmudgeonly old man, even though he's only about the equivalent of 50 years old in Tiefling terms, and very secretive about his past. Hypocritically, he hates people keeping secrets from HIM (and much of his progression going forward will be towards both keeping everything about him secret and prying secrets from others' minds).
I plan for him to be a pretty vindictive bastard, and fond of using the spell Discern Next of Kin to pry the identities and locations of the most beloved family of those who betray him out of their minds, and doing very bad things to them for revenge.
Not sure how much detail you want. I'm usually in the habit of letting a character's personality unfold over time, with small details coming out as they become relevant.
Character sheet inprogress here.
For the future, how useful are crafting feats for this campaign? I.E. will there be enough downtime to craft regularly?
If so, his Hare Familiar (name TBD) will be a Valet instead of a Sage.
A few more questions:
1.) Roughly how fast do we plan to level up?
2.) Roughly how high level do we intend to get?
3.) How easy or hard is it to get access to another Wizard's spellbook to copy spells into my own?
4.) This one's for the party: How do you feel about Darkness spells? My character has See in Darkness (I dropped 2 Feats on Fiend Sight), but they can be debilitating to the other party in some cases. If you feel they'd be more of a hindrance than a help, I can just not take any.
