Nunavut, Canada: Shivering, you check and recheck your weapons. You hear your squad doing the same. You have been waiting here for hours, under the freezing snow. Even the thick layers do not keep out the cold. Finally you hear footsteps. Your heart begins to beat faster. Finally you hear the signal through the comm, ”GO” You pop out of the snow and raise your weapons
The second Manifest Destiny. The government of America has been infiltrated by a mysterious group. By the time anyone found out, they have turned it into a dictatorship. The mysterious group has initiated War Plan Red, and began to invade Canada, all in a bid to gain territory to conquer the world. NATO and even the UN tried to stop them, but alas.. . it failed. Canadian forces have been driven back to the three most upper territories,; Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories
As part of the Canadian forces stationed in Nunavut, you will defend Canada and maybe, just maybe, manage to win the war by assassinating key figures in the American military/government

Cool. I used to love d20 Modern. I see in the backstory that we're part of Canadian forces against the US invasion- are we all military? It mentions possible assassinations- are we spies? I'm just looking for a little more guidance as far as the character background goes. Basically, what kind of campaign are you planning on running?
Off the top of my head, for a military guy I'm thinking Fast hero into Gunslinger, maybe with Martial Artist if I can swing it.
Oh, an FYI for anybody who doesn't have the book- there's a friendlier basic online SRD here: http://12tomidnight.com/d20modernsrd/Home.php It doesn't have the extra rulesets from Arcana or Future, but it looks like we're not using them anyway.

Here's what I'm looking at right now. Instead of primarily a shooter he's more of a leader/face/support type. I'm aiming to go into the Field Officer advanced class that's in d20 Future for some reason, even though it doesn't require anything related to the future. Rough backstory is that he was trained to be a hostage negotiator with the JTF2 counter-terror unit until the invasion, but his unit's base was destroyed, killing most of his unit and so he went on the run.
I'm also trying to plan toward the SpecOp prestige class, but the feat requirements are pretty tough and he wouldn't get there until level 12 at the earliest.
His name is Zack Hosier, callsign Zed.

I'm gonna get to work on actually building a character tonight, now that I'll have the time.
Does anyone have any recommendations for some one who wants to build a "sniper" so to speak? Dunno why, but that tends to be my go to in more modern games. I think I'll try to emulate Simo Häyhä with him. At least to a degree.

I looked the class over, it seems good. I will allow it. Anyone else tat thinks something I haven't allowed would: a) fit in my campaign and b) has no magic, show me and I will check it to see if it is good.

Well I found this build It might not be exactly what you want, but it is probably close enough. Basically a Fast Hero/Infiltrator with a long-range gun

Default system for skills.
allowed prestige/advanced classes that for some reason are in the Future/Arcana books
-Sniper
-Field Officer
-SpecOp
-Explorer
-Swindler
If any classes have a list of feats you pick from for bonus feats, and a feat in the list is not in d20 modern, do not pick it.
Also, found the d20 modern rule book on Scrib'd. The full book is in the preview, so do not download it.

I am willing to be the group's Medic (Dedicated Hero) although I am tempted to play a 1/2 American to add some tension into the game. Basically an American Father and Canadian mother. Attended Stanford University and got her medical degree but decided to work as a base doctor for the Canadian Armed Forces. Generally was not much of a solider though, did the required boot camp where she barely made it through and worked on a base during her career in Canada. She really only wanted to work for 5 years for the credentials as well as the money to start her own practice. Then the war began and she was stuck.
Now good question as we are soldiers, will we get any "Free" feats/skills like Personal Firearms Proficiency considering we would at least have the benefit of Boot Camp training?

Robert is a french canadian. He was a pretty promising hockey-player in high school, but didn't quite manage the level of skill needed to attain a scholarship for college. Never really the book smart kind of guy, although people liked him plenty, he got stuck coming out of highschool. He up and joined the military, figuring he could get into college after a few years there. That's where he's currently at, and before the whole USA situation blew up, he liked the gig pretty well. Despite his lack of book smarts, and his tendency to charge headlong into situations without neccesarily thinking things through, he was headed for an NCO status, probably in just a few months - he's well enough liked, and has the charisma to make people trust him and if he figures out a way to rely on his men, he might well pull off a leadership position. He's not quite sure what he feels about actually going to war - okay that's not entirely true; he's scared shitless. Robert has decided not to let it show, though.

Nice, Dreadnought is fine, so is Ambassador(not sure how ambassador would do anything, but we'll see). If I can find a way to convert Dogfighter from starships to planes, we'll see about that.
Finally got access to my computer, check to see the what weapons you can get from the armory for free(or swap for one of same value)

Yes you may play :) no, don't think anyone has chosen charismatic hero yet
Default weapons(free)
The ones mainly used by the American military in the weapons description
Beretta 92f
M16a4(I think)
Still trying to find a c14 Timberwolf
Any chance you could just make this 'general military equipment', LG? There's lots of stuff- like camo fatigues, armor, walkie-talkies, first aid kits- that could presumably be provided by a military. Or are we more like the kids in Red Dawn, a guerrilla unit providing for themselves? Even then, though, if we've been able to loot weapons we should have been able to loot other gear.
