Backstory of world:

The second Manifest Destiny. The government of America has been infiltrated by a mysterious group. By the time anyone found out, they have turned it into a dictatorship. The mysterious group has initiated War Plan Red, and began to invade Canada, all in a bid to gain territory to conquer the world. NATO and even the UN tried to stop them, but alas.. . it failed. Canadian forces have been driven back to the three most upper territories,; Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories
As part of the Canadian forces stationed in Nunavut, you will defend Canada and maybe, just maybe, manage to win the war by assassinating key figures in the American military/government

Ok =)

Grand Lodge

interested....luckily i have a copy of d20 modern...will see what i come up with

ok, character submissons due in one week

Cool. I used to love d20 Modern. I see in the backstory that we're part of Canadian forces against the US invasion- are we all military? It mentions possible assassinations- are we spies? I'm just looking for a little more guidance as far as the character background goes. Basically, what kind of campaign are you planning on running?

Off the top of my head, for a military guy I'm thinking Fast hero into Gunslinger, maybe with Martial Artist if I can swing it.

Oh, an FYI for anybody who doesn't have the book- there's a friendlier basic online SRD here: http://12tomidnight.com/d20modernsrd/Home.php It doesn't have the extra rulesets from Arcana or Future, but it looks like we're not using them anyway.

Due to the environment of Nunavut/Yukon/Northwest Territories, the Canadian forces do mostly guerrilla fighting(ambushes, cutting off supplies) so a bit of both of military/spies.
Also, thanks for the new SRD website.

Right, time to buckle down and get to the nuts and bolts of it all then.

Here's what I'm looking at right now. Instead of primarily a shooter he's more of a leader/face/support type. I'm aiming to go into the Field Officer advanced class that's in d20 Future for some reason, even though it doesn't require anything related to the future. Rough backstory is that he was trained to be a hostage negotiator with the JTF2 counter-terror unit until the invasion, but his unit's base was destroyed, killing most of his unit and so he went on the run.

I'm also trying to plan toward the SpecOp prestige class, but the feat requirements are pretty tough and he wouldn't get there until level 12 at the earliest.

His name is Zack Hosier, callsign Zed.

Basic stats, skills, and feats:

Strong Hero 1
Occupation: Law Enforcement
Wealth bonus: +1

Str 10
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 10
Cha 13 (bump at 4, 8, 12)

HP 9
BAB +1
Melee +1
Ranged +4
Init +2

Fort +2
Ref +3
Will +0

Diplomacy +5 (4 ranks +1 Cha)
Knowledge (Tactics) +4 (4 ranks)
Listen +4

Simple Weapon Proficiency
Personal Firearm Proficiency
Advanced Fiream Proficiency

I'm gonna get to work on actually building a character tonight, now that I'll have the time.

Does anyone have any recommendations for some one who wants to build a "sniper" so to speak? Dunno why, but that tends to be my go to in more modern games. I think I'll try to emulate Simo Häyhä with him. At least to a degree.

I looked the class over, it seems good. I will allow it. Anyone else tat thinks something I haven't allowed would: a) fit in my campaign and b) has no magic, show me and I will check it to see if it is good.

Well I found this build It might not be exactly what you want, but it is probably close enough. Basically a Fast Hero/Infiltrator with a long-range gun

Oh and posting requirements are 1/day, and a alias for your character

There's a sniper prestige class in the Making Urban Arcana More Prestigious pdf supplement but I can't find a reference online. I could put up the PDFs on Google docs or something.

Urban Arcana View the preview, do not download. I found this online.

That build looks close enough for my liking, thanks! I do have a question about skills, are we going to use skills the way pathfinder does them, or 3.5, which Modern seems to default to?

Default system for skills.
allowed prestige/advanced classes that for some reason are in the Future/Arcana books

-Sniper
-Field Officer
-SpecOp
-Explorer
-Swindler

If any classes have a list of feats you pick from for bonus feats, and a feat in the list is not in d20 modern, do not pick it.
Also, found the d20 modern rule book on Scrib'd. The full book is in the preview, so do not download it.

d20 modern rulebook

Also, the weapons locker might prove useful for a sniper rifle.

Now I got the fluff down, just have to do the crunch as well.
Fun, usually it's easier to do it the other way around, but noooo, not this time dammit.
I'm going to teach my brain a lesson, where is that Vodka?

Alright, finally have a chance to sit down and try this. I'll be updating this alias as much as possible.

Edit: So which Occupations are available?

Question- do we need to supply our own weapons and gear or is there an armory we can access?

Academic-maybe a military engineer
Blue Collar-Possibly person that repairs equipment
Adventurer-possibly scout/explorer type person
Doctor-field medic
Emergency services-former first responder.
Law enforcement
Military
Technician-engineer
After the dashes are just ideas not stuff you have to do
Armory
Irl stuff right now, will get to you later, but will answer soon as I can
Extremely sorry

Sovereign Court

There is a Sniper class in the D20 Modern players companion. Its called the "Dead Shot" class but its pretty much a sniper class that specializes in the use of Longarms. You should consider allowing some of the classes and feats out of those books as well.

Ok thanks Darkfire142! I will look over it

There's also a sniper PRC in the Urban Arcana Web Enhancement.

What do you think of the Dreadnought from d20 Future? I don't really see why it's exclusively future, and I think running it on a tough hero could be interesting.

In case we use the standard wealth paradigm, 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

Sovereign Court

I am willing to be the group's Medic (Dedicated Hero) although I am tempted to play a 1/2 American to add some tension into the game. Basically an American Father and Canadian mother. Attended Stanford University and got her medical degree but decided to work as a base doctor for the Canadian Armed Forces. Generally was not much of a solider though, did the required boot camp where she barely made it through and worked on a base during her career in Canada. She really only wanted to work for 5 years for the credentials as well as the money to start her own practice. Then the war began and she was stuck.

Now good question as we are soldiers, will we get any "Free" feats/skills like Personal Firearms Proficiency considering we would at least have the benefit of Boot Camp training?

Yes, you get personal weapons proficiency free. I will see if there are any other feats.
Good character. I like the background. We will see how she interacts with other people in her group.

So for occupations that get Personal Firearms Proficiency for free, do they get a bonus feat?

Robert is a french canadian. He was a pretty promising hockey-player in high school, but didn't quite manage the level of skill needed to attain a scholarship for college. Never really the book smart kind of guy, although people liked him plenty, he got stuck coming out of highschool. He up and joined the military, figuring he could get into college after a few years there. That's where he's currently at, and before the whole USA situation blew up, he liked the gig pretty well. Despite his lack of book smarts, and his tendency to charge headlong into situations without neccesarily thinking things through, he was headed for an NCO status, probably in just a few months - he's well enough liked, and has the charisma to make people trust him and if he figures out a way to rely on his men, he might well pull off a leadership position. He's not quite sure what he feels about actually going to war - okay that's not entirely true; he's scared s#*$less. Robert has decided not to let it show, though.

Nice, Dreadnought is fine, so is Ambassador(not sure how ambassador would do anything, but we'll see). If I can find a way to convert Dogfighter from starships to planes, we'll see about that.

Finally got access to my computer, check to see the what weapons you can get from the armory for free(or swap for one of same value)

May I play? Just wondering, has anyone chosen the Charismatic Hero yet?

Yes you may play :) no, don't think anyone has chosen charismatic hero yet
Default weapons(free)
The ones mainly used by the American military in the weapons description
Beretta 92f
M16a4(I think)
Still trying to find a c14 Timberwolf

I'm sorry, this character isn't clicking for me, I'll have to drop out. Apologies for the lateness in doing so.

Here is my character sheet and backstory. Might adjust my gear some more before the game begins.

Sorry for not having put up a finished character yet, work has been really hectic this week.
I'll have my character up before the end of the weekend, or else I'll drop out so you don't have to wait for me.

It is ok.It's good that you can submit it before the end of the weekend. Good luck!
ULTRAGEEK, maybe you can finish it by then too?

Any chance you could just make this 'general military equipment', LG? There's lots of stuff- like camo fatigues, armor, walkie-talkies, first aid kits- that could presumably be provided by a military. Or are we more like the kids in Red Dawn, a guerrilla unit providing for themselves? Even then, though, if we've been able to loot weapons we should have been able to loot other gear.

Hmmm.. Yes, but of course there would be some restrictions.
Default equipment
Light armor
Fatigues
Walkie talkies
First aid kits
Guns above
Anything else, just ask

Here's Zed. I need to give him gear but he's mostly done.

Great, submissions due Monday 12 am eastern time

Almost done, just need gear

Good.

Ok, done, just need to create alias

Save my alias's profile, but the whole thing deleted.... So frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just posted a link to a spreadsheet...will work out skill mods later

ULTRAGEEK wrote:

That happens to me sometime too :(

I'm sorry, but I just can't seem to find the time.
Even my weekends seem booked up now with work and family.
I'm going to have to back out, hope the rest of you have fun.

That is unfortunate. But I understand. Real life comes first.

This is my character! Finished the profile!-ULTRAGEEK

Well, everyone is done. Should we wait to see if anyone joins at the last moment or start now?

I wouldn't be opposed to starting now. We've got four or five people, that should be good.
