test

On the Southern Front...

The pirate leader, frustration evident in his voice, bellows "YOU. Search those trees, yonder! Find that man!"

Jayse remains unseen...

The commotion draws another pirate from around the other side of the trees. "YOU. Help me kill this mud-sucking crustacean from hell!" Flanking the valiant Skitter, they proceed to put blade and boot to the little critter.

The sound of metal crunching and squeals are heard...

Fall of Skitter AC:22:

STONE-FACED KILLA

Just checked the map.. Whee! Let's see what this little fiery breath dud-ad can do…

A gout of flame erupting from his mouth announces Jayse's position, flowing around the man right next to Jayse. Then Jayse dives back into the trees, looking to get lost once again.

Standard action to blow some flame breath on this guy 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 6) = 24. -- Reflex DC 13 for half damage.
Then he moves up-left and left to AU-61, tumbling out of the first square and then using stealth into the final square.
Acro 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20.
Stealth 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20.

Fin, what was that will save for?

Just in case any readied spells go off at her when she moves to attack.

Yep, I'm aware of that. I wanted to give you a chance to change your actions in light of the updated maps. If you are happy with your actions - I'll adjudicate based on those.

You each have a dedicated map now for legibility's sake. Please look for the map with your name on it. :) Take that as you will.
Ushari - the bad guys on your map show their last known positions at the END of their last round. Your position, includes your 40' move this turn and puts you at the base of a tree. I don't see your actions changing - but you are free to amend them. If you amend the 40' move - you are in the open approximately 35' closer to the bad guys.
Fin - your posted actions will take more than one round. Last round you cast Expeditious Retreat, acro'd, moved to your current position and hid. Drinking the healing potion has not been done yet. If slugging down the healing potion is your top priority, let me know.

Oh, I figured several rounds had passed since you had Fin stop running. I didn't see new map links get posted so lemme go have a look at the history...

EDIT: OK, now seeing the map, I'll put expeditious retreat to good use and run 240-ft east and then hide again. That should hopefully buy her a round or more to chug that potion.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

FYI - the mage is hidden far on the other side of that blob to the west.

Nope Ushari is going to climb the tree next round on her action.
She will Take 10 (if possible) for total of 17.
Stealth to stay hidden 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Ushari sprints into the trees, fairly sure that she has outdistanced pursuit for the moment. She slides to a stop at the base of a good-sized tree and listens for sounds of her pursuers while trying to still her beating heart.

She hears nothing... except the distance scream of a pirate who sounds like his face ran into a blast furnace.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Like a freakish jack-in-the-box, Jayse pops up and gives the pirate leader a face full of shooting flames, then leaps away into the bushes.

The pirate leader screams and bats at his face to put the flames out which have reduced his beard, moustaches, and eyebrows to a poor sooty joke and nearly burned his face to a cinder in the process.

Flaming Arrrrgh:

Fin races far and fast, taking a bit of southern turn towards the end of her trail when she sees a small gap between some trees.

Round 9: Pirates!

Jayse tries to hide but the canny elven pirate spots him easily. "Got him! Come 'round the other side!" The two pirates close on Jayse and attack... He feels a scimitar pierce his back, nearly knocking him out.

Unbeknownst to our heroes, the majority of the pirates continue to sweep east, looking for the two women.

Round 10

Using your previously stated actions...

Fin catches her breath in a small break in the woods. She pulls the last of Isolde's potion and slugs it down. It does wonders.

Map: Mining Village

STONE-FACED KILLA

Jayse holds onto consciousness by a thread. Blood flows from numerous wounds all over his body, and every movement is an exercise in willpower. His numb mind slips further into the embrace of the Calm, a safety measure acquired from his mysterious training, apparently, but Jayse happily lets the sensations fade to a dull.

Knowing this may be his last opportunity to do so, he disengages from his attackers once again, using the brush for cover, and runs in a south-easterly course, skirting difficult terrain for pure speed.

Withdraw!
His first step will be down-right, then continuing south-east with all haste.
My intention is to pull as far ahead as Jayse can, then drink the potion once he knows he's got enough distance to do it safely. He'll try to be aware enough to avoid giving the pirates charging lanes, using broken ground or trees and bushes to make it impossible. He'll also keep his eyes open for the mage, who seems to have dropped off his radar in all the fighting.

Isolde's potion (when he gets to drink it) 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16.
Perception check (to keep his eyes/ears out for the mage) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22.

NOTE: Once Jayse has the room to drink the potion, I'd like to check the situation to make sure another opportunity hasn't presented itself to bleed these damn pirates!

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Jayse races through the stand of trees then skirts the edge of a much larger block of woods as he runs south-east trying to put as much distance between himself and pursuit as he can...

Fin catches her breath debating her next move. Distantly she can hear the odd weapons' clink or curse of a pirate far to the west. She also hears a much larger group to the southwest... but none of them are close enough to see or hear her.

Southwest group:
"Hey! What are you lot doing here?"
"Looking for a big-ass blade with an elf behind it! You?"
"The small girl came through here, maybe."
"Join lines, eh?"
"Aye. Give a shout if you spot one of 'em. We'll keep heading this way."

For Ushari the conversation is quite a bit louder and more ominous. Though she can't see the group from her perch, they are clearly at the edge of the wood she is hiding in... just north of her hiding spot. But it is the elf sneaking around from the south, with his excellent low light vision that is causing her more concern. He scans the base of the trees and up into the branches. His eyes pass over her... and move on.

Ushari rolls:

Perception v DC:29 1d20 + 8 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 4 - 2 = 15 range, circumstantial

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

At once in the Calm and anxious of the threats around him, Jayse sees the microscopic variables that govern life and death. For instance, IF the stand of trees in front of him were just 5' closer, he could be hidden among them instead of standing in this open field. IF the pirates hadn't shouted so loudly, they wouldn't have drawn the attention of the Mage who was stalking the girls... until the cry came. IF the mist were thicker or the night just a shade darker, perhaps Jayse would be better concealed.

Yes, it seems like so many, many little things are the difference between life and death... it's practically the roll of a die...

Jayse almost reaches the safety of a small stand of trees when he comes clear of the massive woods he just ran past. He sees a long wide treeless swathe of grass. In the midst of it is the Mage and his wounded guard. The Mage's eyes turn towards the Monk, trying to ferret out what the commotion is in that direction. His hand rises, prepared to cast a spell that allows no reprieve from his elusive prey...

But distance, darkness, and the swirling mists are Jayse's friends and the Mage's eyes can't quite separate his silhouette from the tree's.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Hey, in my defense, I just nearly 'fled blindly' into a mage's fireball or somesuch!

STONE-FACED KILLA

Jayse stops on a dime, knowing he needs to get some healing in before that mage can catch him unprepared. He rushes around the trees to his right, drinking Isolde's potion and casting aside the container.

Move around to BI-73. Which should block LoS to the mage and cut off any charge lanes from the pursuing pirates.
Then he drinks the potion. (Can I keep that last roll of 7 (equaling 16 hp healed)? Or do you want me to re-roll?

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

I'm an evil bastard but you can keep the previous roll. :)

STONE-FACED KILLA

Cool. Thanks. up to 17 hp.

Life rushes back into his body, and he prepares for whatever comes next.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Jayse hunkers down behind the small stand of trees and chugs his potion with delight at the immediate easing of many of his wounds.

Putting the greater maneuverability of her increased movement to good use, Fin sheathes Whoosh and takes up her bow. Sighting the nearest human pirate (preferably one she has already injured), she looses a shaft!

AF113 looks to be exactly 100-ft away meaning she's got another 10-ft of leeway before range penalties start accumulating. I'm hoping that she's also beyond the range of their vision. If need be, Fin will move north just far enough to clear the clump of trees to her west.

Ushari holds her breath as the elvish eyes pass over her. She debates whether she could risk a channel here, but while she feels she could control it somewhat, it was still too risky. She decides to wait until the pirates have moved further away before whispering a healing spell for herself.

Delay until after the Pirates have moved away from her hiding spot.
Cast Cure Light Wounds (whispered) on herself. 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Stealth (if needed) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
That sucked.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Ouch.. No dice love today, huh?

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Fin stalks northward trying to catch sight of the pirates between the trees. She realises it isn't quite dark enough yet for their vision to be fully impaired but with a little luck...

She spies two pirates and doesn't hesitate - firing an arrow through the thinning branches. It catches the lead pirate in the chest. They can't see her, but they know from where her arrow came. With a shout they rush towards her location.

Pirates close around Jayse as he hunkers down behind a tree. They are too tired from their sprint to attack him.

At the shout of the arrow-creased pirate, Ushari hears a portion of the group pursuing her hustle off in a different direction. But the elf and another pirate continue circling the woods in which she is concealed, clearly still looking for her.

Ushari - as you can see by the map, one of the pirates could possibly see you casting your spell. Do you want to risk it? Or delay into the next round. I will tell you that casting your spell will have considerably less of a visual effect than channeling.

Ushari sees the pirates moving off in the direction of Fin and silently gives thanks...which then turns into a curse as she notes one of the pirates still nearby, scanning the woods for her. Knowing time is running out for her companions, she decides to risk her healing spell...

She will cast her spell...please use results rolled earlier, thanks.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Clearly, casting her spell inconspicuously effected the potency of Ushari's magic... but her actions go blissfully unnoticed.

Noticing that she's gotten the attention of the pirates, Findelgwing fires again then uses her superior mobility to keep herself beyond the range of the humans' vision while still within range for her next shot.

If possible, Fin will attempt to lead them in a divergent direction from where she believe the rest of the pirates are pursuing Jayse and Ushari.

Not entirely sure (as a player) where J & U are relative to F, hence why I phrased her movement as I did. ^_^;

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

That's why I gave you those three choices. :) Fin knows that Ushari and Jayse are definitely south of her and the safest course 'away' is going to be one of those three.

OK, North-East then.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Oh, wow. I didn't realize we were back up and rollin'. I'll have a post together some time this morning.

STONE-FACED KILLA

... and thanks for takin' some of the heat off of us, Fin. Why don't you just go ahead and finish up this little fight for us. :)

STONE-FACED KILLA

Knowing it's a gamble, Jayse thinks to himself, It's time to bleed these jack-asses.

He side-steps, sliding his foot along the ground to put one pirate between himself and one other and simultaneously bring the one with the still-smoking face within striking distance. His blade flashes out twice quicker than a snake's tongue.

Rolls & Stuff:
5' step to BJ-72. - hoping the difficult terrain to the north will provide some difficulties to the pirate's flanking attempts.
Then Flurry with power attack on the crispy pirate in BK-73.

:) Guess I should have shouted, "GAME ON", eh?

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Fin tries to retreat northeast only to find that she must head more easterly to keep the pirates in sight. She threads a needle with Twang, firing an arrow down a narrowing gap between two clusters of trees at her half-hidden opponents... She gives the lead pirate a second arrow in his chest to match the first one. He curses roundly.

Meanwhile, Jayse slips around the lackey to square off against the torched pirate leader. The monk's first blow is blocked by the pirate's up-turned blade. "Ya filthy beggar! You'll need to do better than that!" Jayse silently agrees, spins 360 degrees in the other direction, and puts a bit more weight behind the blue blade - shearing straight through the still up-turned scimitar and disemboweling the pirate is a single smooth motion. He gulps air, eyes wide, and drops like a sack of mackerel alongside the fragmented remains of his blade.

Round: 12

ORDER: Jayse, Fin, Straehan, Pirate Bosses, Pirate Lackeys, Boo, Ushari

Nothing but the clink of chains, the patter of blood, and the odd cry of a distressed villager is heard throughout the cave.

Random Cave Beast 1d100 + 5 ⇒ (28) + 5 = 33

Ushari...
Ushari breathes a sigh of relief as both pirates hear a limb snap in the woods to the east. Thinking it is Ushari, they rush to find the source.

Fin...
The pirates rush forward but are unable to quite close the distance with Fin. However, they are joined by a third pirate who races around from the south side of the woods.

Jayse...
The two remaining pirates attempt to contain Jayse. The monk has only a moderate concern about them, until he notes they are pinning him down so the Wizard and his guard can get in position to join them. From the Wizard's hand, a thin bolt of jaggy lightning emerges. It weaves around the pirates and trees, seeking Jayse unerringly...

It seems Jayse's luck has run out as both pirate blades and the electrical bolt strike the monk, nearly rendering him unconscious.

Justin: Does Fin have a clear shot at the elven pirate, or are the tree branches in the way at her present location?

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

He is a valid target despite some branches in the way. Basically if you have over a 50% LOS in Player View (which all the screens are) then it is assumed the foliage is light enough, and you are skilled enough, that you can target the aforementioned evil bastard. :) "You may fire when ready, Mr. Gridley."

Noting that she's managed to attract the attention of yet another target, she's already injured, Findelgwing considers killing the elf then thinks better of it. If he can see her, perhaps he'll lead others this way. Provided she gets his attention...

Sheathing her bow and drawing Whoosh again, she gives a loud whistle, waves, and walks up to the pirate boss in a round-about fashion and friendly fashion (AF136) before swinging for the hills!

Whoosh 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 1 + 2 = 24 power attack, fave

Note: Her last square of approach, should be diagonal from AE137 so as not to provoke any AoOs. I'm moving her there so that she can't be charged, to ensure that she's already in melee if the elf has acquired a ranged weapon, and to ensure an AoO on the underling if the boss should survive and the other pirate wants to move to a flanking position (i.e. AE137).
