For a moment, Findelgwing wonders if she should have brought her little brother along instead. Still obscured from view near the wreck's waterline she calls upon a minor spirit of the wind to convey a question to Jayse and return with his answer.

"Fin climb?" he hears whispered in his ear. Looking towards the wreck, he can see her indicating that she could climb up.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Jayse takes on an exasperated pose, wiping his face. While his mouth is covered, he whispers his reply, "Good idea. I'll try to keep his attention." Bluff 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28.

He takes a calming breath before looking back up at the man. "Look. We came here to help, but if pirates have attacked that village, we're not going in there without knowing what all is going on? So the pirates were on this ship? If so, when did they crash here? Who is forcing whom to work the mines? Why are you hiding on the ship? There's just too many questions here, and - like I said - I'm not going in there blind. If you would please just come and tell me the whole story, I'd be very appreciative."

If he sees Fin approaching and is aggressive to her, Jayse will rush across the distance, make a jump for it, and try to use his slippers to get up in that crows nest in two move actions.
So, if necessary...
Initiative 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16.
Acro to jump 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35.

Staying quiet, Findelgwing summons a small breeze to slowly and subtly lift her grappling hook up and hook it over the edge of the ship. She then climbs up bracing against the hull of the ship. Before climbing aboard, she'll pause to take-in whatever she can see hear by peeking over the edge.

Caveats:
Mage hand can lift 5lbs and the hook weighs 4. Silk rope weighs 1lbs/10-ft. If she needs more length than that, she'll sever the rope, get the hook +10-ft situated, then use mage-hand again on the remainder of the rope and fuse it back together with mending. If for some reason the climb is more difficult than DC 5 (rope with a wall to brace against), then she'll just go more slowly.

Climb DC 5 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 7 - 5 = 9 accelerated
Perception 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 = 27 favored terrain
Stealth 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 = 21 favored terrain

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Fin sneaks forward beneath the curve of the boat and across the sandbar until she reaches a point where her grapple just barely manages to slither up and find purchase on a bit of decking.

You are now near the bow where the front end of the boat has started to cant forward as it slides down the far side of the sandbar. It isn't unstable, just angled. You are actually in front of the spot where the forward mast (with the crow's nest) meets the ship's deck. You are almost directly below the nest itself.

She climbs up rapidly and hangs from the deck's edge - looking around.

What Fin Sees:
The deck is a shambles: broken wood, a destroyed ballista, blood stains, ballista bolts sticking in places, holes that must have come from catapult damage, and scorch marks. The ship was clearly in a battle. You see the tattered remnants of a black flag snagged on a spar of wood.

In response to Jayse's questions, the man responds, "It wrecked maybe two days past... Whatdayathink?! The pirates forced the townsfolk into the mine and are workin' them... those they didn't cart off, I mean, the women and girls. Why am I hiding?" He seems about to state the obvious reasons for that when something tickles the senses of the secretive man in the crow's nest (you've barely seen the top of his head during this entire exchange). He peeps over the edge of the nest in several spots before he says, his voice laced with suspicion, "Where's your friend."

Stealth 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27 favored terrain

Fin pulls herself up to the deck and quiets moves to the base of the mast. In addition to keeping out of the view of the man Jayse is occupying, she also tries to minimize her visibility from land.

Climb 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Once there, she assays whether or not she can climb up either without alerting the man, or before he can raise an alarm, well-aware that he's already suspicious.

STONE-FACED KILLA

I'm guessing Jayse can see her? Or is there rubble or something she's using as cover which would block even Jayse from knowing where she currently is?

Jayse makes a point of keeping eye contact with the strange man, "She won't hurt you if you don't mean us harm. So you're not one of the pirates, huh? I only ask because it seems an odd place for one of the pirates' victims to hide... on their ship."

He pauses, "Listen, we came here to help the village, and I get the feeling you're not telling us everything. Understandable if you really are a victim and these pirates have attacked you. But this is just the sort of thing we came to help prevent."

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Something in the way Jayse says "She won't hurt you." sets off this man's paranoia trigger. He swings around expecting to find the tall elf in the nest with them. Not seeing her there he pops up fully and scans the area.... hello!

His eyes light on the woman at the base of the mast.

rolls:
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Fin - Init, please.

LMAO nice job rolling EXACTLY my stealth result. Did the guy get a +2 AA bonus from Jayse? ;) BTW, what race is he?

Init 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 yeeeaaah that's not gonna cut it I'd gather

When the man looks over the edge, Fin smiles in a friendly fashion and says, "Hello! Talk now?"

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

I'm happy to amend his roll with that assist from Jayse. :) Yeah, looks like you are STILL seen. FYI - bonus points on the 'trying to look casual while you are at the base of the mast and half-started to climb up it'. I'm not even sure what the circumstantial penalty on that would be. :) It cracked me up, though, very ballsy.

Works being a pill so I'll post Round 1 as soon as I can.

Race: 1d4 ⇒ 1
1=elf
2=half-elf
3+=human

STONE-FACED KILLA

'm pretty sure we were boned when i rolled a 1 on Diplomacy.. i've just been waiting for the other shoe to fall.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

LOL! Well thanks for helping it to fall then! :D

STONE-FACED KILLA

Psh. I maintain that it was going to happen anyway, and the NPC was looking for an opportunity to freak out.

Sense Motive 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Upon seeing that the man who is hiding is also an elf, Fin's face lights up with excitement.

Elvish:
"Fin elf too! Come down, talk! Jayse human but OK. You OK?"

STONE-FACED KILLA

She says as the arrow descends from upon high.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

The balding elf sneers and hurls a small bag at the elf woman looking expectantly at him from below and then reaches for something else out of sight in the nest...

The bag slams into Fin's head spraying a sticky resin over the elf woman and the mast. Due to the precision of the shot and Fin's closeness to the mast, the majority of the gooey substance stays in her hair and across her torso stiffening her movements. Move is halved. The force of the blow knocks Fin away from the mast. She is fortunate, for as the goo hardens it becomes clear her head would have been glued to the mast.

From the boat, Straehan sees some motion but can't quite make it out...

The nest provides cover for 'Crow', so he has +4 to AC.
Fin - you are about 15' from him, nearly straight up.
Jayse - you are 40' from him, diagonally up.

Sandbar Battle

Round: 1

ORDER: [Ushari], Crow, Jayse, [Straehan], Fin

Rolls:

Tanglefoot (v Fin's Touch AC:16 w/Mage Armor) 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 1 = 25 Range
F's Reflex Save DC15 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Close!

U's Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
S's Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
U's Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 10 ⇒ (6) + 9 - 10 = 5 range
S's Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 10 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 10 = 14 range

Straehan sits up, "Ushari, can you see what's going on over there? I thought I saw some movement on the ship but I'm not sure..."

"I'm sorry, Straehan I can't tell anything from this distance. Still, if there is someone on that wreck, then either they need help, or Fin and Jayse do." Ushari starts getting the Mako underway, and heads towards the wreckage.

Profession, Sailor 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Did you say a BALDING elf? WTF! O_o;

"ICK! Not elf! Baldy! Get down now baldy."

Strength DC 17 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

While she's waiting for the naughty quarter-elf to quit acting like a rude little boy, Fin flexes shattering the hardened goo. She then draws her sword and tries to move to a place with better cover just in case he insists on doing things the hard way.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

There aren't too many places for cover, the wreck of the ballista and its mount would provide the most cover while remaining on deck.
FYI - no race is immune to balding in Miir.

Given how strange the sight of a balding elf is to Fin, like the odd colorings of certain fish here... it underscores to her that she is clearly from a different world.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Jayse wears his frustration openly now, only keeping it in check because he sees Fin is unharmed.

He forces his body to stillness though, as he yells up, "Last chance! We're here to talk, but if you take one more aggressive action, I will escalate this thing. Who are you and what's the whole story here?" He waits for the response, ready to gauge the man's honesty should he decide to speak instead of attack.

Delay to see if the man will comply and back down to talk with us in full.
If the man doesn't stand down, Jayse will take his round of actions directly after the elf.

Straehan turns to regard the small woman, "I'm not sure I would have jumped to either of those conclusions." He shrugs and lets her get the boat underway. He resumes scanning the sandbar intently trying to figure out what's happening.

Sorry, this was unclear.. i meant he'll act after the guy in the crow's nest.. not wait until after Fin. In case there was any confusion.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

That was how I read it, no worries.

Fin cracks the rapidly hardening goo from her armor and scuttles around the destroyed ballista.

Fin has partial cover.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

The balding elf responds to Jayse's polite request with a shortbow shaft. Despite the magical protection surrounding Jayse, the arrow penetrates - slicing across his thigh. The monk instantly launches into a blur of motion...

Meanwhile on the boat, chop off the sea has temporarily blinded Straehan sitting at the bow. However, the keen-eyed Ushari spots that on the sand some sort of kerfuffle is happening. She coaxes as much speed from the Mako as she can but it will take them awhile to sail over there.

Round: 2

ORDER: [Ushari], Crow, Jayse, [Straehan], Fin

F's HPs: 36|36
J's HPs: 27|32
U's HPs: 24|24
S's HPs: 28|28

rolls:

Shortbow @ Jayse AC21 (mage armor) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
DAM: 1d6 ⇒ 5

U's Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 8 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 8 = 18 range - general feel of what's happening
S's Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 8 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 8 = 2 range - general feel of what's happening

STONE-FACED KILLA

Before I act, is there room in the crow's nest for two people?

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

It would be tight but yes.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Idiot!

The thought is Jayse's last before the Calm sets in. Three long racing steps get his speed up, and the fourth carries him up into the air. He reorients himself in the air, landing feet-first on the beam, nearly eight feet above the deck. His gifted slippers keep his feet attached to the beam as he quickly finishes his vertical sprint and vaults into the crow's nest with the elf. He lands softly in a combat stance. "Drop the bow."

Acrobatics (Jump) 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29. Just under 7.5 feet in height at the apex.
I should have enough movement to jump the gap and use the slippers to cover the rest of the vertical space in one round, getting into the crow's nest with the elf.
If an acro is needed to avoid an AoO, I should have the movement left. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22. vs. CMD

I don't think we have a map yet so I just want to understand everyone's positioning better before my turn comes up...

If I understand correctly, Fin climbed onto the ship from the front-most portion of the broken part while Jayse was still in the water. The crow's nest is still 20-ft above where she was standing. Meanwhile Jayse (who was still in the water) just now jumped out of the water onto the deck and is about to vault up another 20-ft into the crow's nest. Is that correct, or did I miss Jayse climbing aboard in plain sight while I was being stealthy?

STONE-FACED KILLA

Oh, i thought i was standing on the broken deck - which had water running up on it.

Dunno, that's why I'm asking. We were both in the water and Jayse picked up a piece of debris, then Fin swam over to him then to the ship. I'm not sure why I'd have had to make a climb check earlier if that was the case. Hopefully J-man can cast remove confusion upon me. ;)

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Since it is one guy, I wasn't planning on mapping this out... but I will attempt to clarify...
The front half of the boat is on the sandbar which is maybe a foot above the water at it's highest. Jayes came out of the water to talk with the guy, while Fin swam stealthily towards the boat. Jayse walked across the sandbar keeping 'Crow' distracted while Fin came out of the water beneath the curve of the beached boat, out of sight of the nest, stealthed along on the sand, found a low point, almost touching the water on the other side of the bar, and climbed up. Jayse will be attempting to jump from the sand/rock onto the boat and then up the mast... unless he'd like to change his actions.
I apologize, I did a piss-poor job of describing the scene.
If you guys are still confused or would feel better with a map - I'll create one. Just let me know.

Cool, thanks for the clarification, I read thru about 3× but us exiting the water didn't click so I was mightily confused.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

LOL! It was all so clear *in my head*, what is wrong with you guys? :) Seriously, if you'd like a map, I'll build it.

EDIT - that also explains why you kept tossing in Favored Terrain bonuses. I just figured you were being overzealous. I should have mentioned that those weren't applicable on a couple of the checks you made, instead of just deducting them from the results.

Nah, we're past the point where that matters I'd say. Now that we're all up-to-speed it's a non-issue.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

OK, but if you change your mind, let me know.
Jayse - still want to attempt your leapfrog onto the boat?

STONE-FACED KILLA

I want to be all up-front and personal-like with this clown. Is that doable in one round of actions? That's kind of my goal. Or better, to be all up-front and personal-like with a standard action left... :D

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

FYI - I'm figuring with all that goo in her hair, Fin is sporting a B-52's shelacked beehive hairdo look... very fetching. :)

Fin's new look

Jayse wrote:

Two full moves, you could be close or in his grill.

STONE-FACED KILLA

All l up in his grill. I want to reach out and touch this fool.

Tiiin roof... BUSTED!

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Jayse takes a breath... his heart beats once.

He has a little bit of trouble running across the sand so he changes tack and leapfrogs across the raised patches of coral and bare stone, culminating in a tremendous jump at the rear (and highest part) of the forward section of the boat. His leap, sadly, is not quite high enough. His legs compress as his feet strike the side of the ship a bit over half-way up. His slippers grip like cleats. Jayse allows the excess kinetic energy to pivot his body to a near standing position. He grabs the lower halves of two broken rails and kicks his feet away from the hull, doing a backflip by pivoting off his hands. In mid-flight, he releases his grip and tucks, landing on his feet, with an audible thump on the tilting deck.

His heart beats a second time...

Jayse takes two quick steps and leaps again across the downward tilting deck. His feet slap against the mast, sticking momentarily in the hardened goo before he races up the rest of the somewhat slick mast and finds purchase on the outside of the crow's nest. He squats like a toad on the barrel of the nest, holding onto the top lip with an iron-hard grip... very much a living gargoyle.

Crow squeaks and his eyes go wide for a moment.

Jayse exhales his lightly held breath and smiles.

Round: 2

ORDER: [Ushari], Crow, Jayse, [Straehan], Fin

rolls:

Using previous, AoO becomes the acrobatics check.
Jump 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19

Since Jayse appears to have things well in hand, Fin will move closer so that if the fake elf falls, she can keep him from getting away.

Readied Grapple 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 +4 if Mr. Crow ends up prone as the result of falling damage

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Crow is a cornered rat and he knows it. He tosses his bow in Jayse's face to distract him and then pulls his waiting shortsword and tries to cut loose the monk's vice-like grip - four fingers at once! His blow is strong but poorly aimed. It carves a deep groove in the wood between Jayse's fingers...

Round: 3

ORDER: [Ushari], Crow, Jayse, [Straehan], Fin

rolls:

Shortshort @ Jayse AC21 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
DAM: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

F's HPs: 36|36
J's HPs: 27|32
U's HPs: 24|24
S's HPs: 28|28

"Throw pirate!" Fin calls out stomping her foot on the deck.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Jayse's hand snakes out, grabbing the cornered rat in an iron grip. "This would go so much easier for you if you'd quit attacking me."

Grapple 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Jayse scruffs Crow making him squeak but he continues to struggle.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Round: 3

ORDER: [Ushari], Crow, Jayse, [Straehan], Fin

Fin - do you want to carry over your last action and let Jayse handle this guy or switch things up?

Let's carry it over. Only so much room up there anyway...

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Coaxing as much wind in the sails as possible, the Mako closes to within 100' of the sandbar... close enough to see the struggle in the crow's nest.

Despite Jayse's strength, Crow tries to strike him down one more time. He lands another strong blow but Jayse twists a joint in his shoulder at the last moment causing the man's body to contort and forces his blow to land harmlessly against the rail. Jayse wiggles a foot to relieve a small toe-cramp.

Round: 4

ORDER: Ushari, Crow, Jayse, Straehan, Fin

rolls:

Shortshort @ Jayse AC21 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
DAM: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Straehan struggles to see who is in the crow's nest but the glare of the sunlight on the water makes it impossible for Ushari or Straehan to see a thing.

Perception:
U's Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 9 = 2
S's Perception: 1d20 + 9 - 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 9 = 3
