Simon squints his eyes and takes a quick look around the room with a Detect Magic.

![]() |

Doubtful scowls as the door opens and nothing immediately bad happens. He glares into the hallway beyond, noting the damage, and feels a little better about it all.
"Probably gonna blame us for all that." He observes with a growl, waving at the damaged property. He steps into the hallway trying to determine if whatever caused the damage is still lurking.
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
As the others examine the damage, and look about, he goes across the hallway, as quietly as he can and tries to determine what the sounds on the far side of the door might be.
stealth across, and listen! Neither of which will be anywhere near what Blend is managing, show off! =)
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34

Simon's examination bears no fruit for now, but Blend and Doubtful as they scount the next room they overheard the sound of a shrill little man wondering aloud Hmm, I guess they might not answer the challenge after all....

![]() |

It seems we are expected Blend mutters to Doubtful and quietly pushes open the door, remaining unseen.

![]() |

"Indeed." Simon casts Prestidigitation to clean off his clothes, becoming nice and presentable again, then straightens them and heads to the door, ready for someone else to open it for him.

![]() |

Evarice shrugs. She keeps her piccolo at hand, knocks on the door and presents herself.
"Lord Passad! We bring you greetings from the Pathfinder Society. We gladly accept your challenge!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

![]() |

As you open the room a slight man, dressed in servant's garb gives an over the top bow. Oh Good Heavens, no I am not Lord Passad. BUT WELCOME TO THE GHENNETT MANOR CHALLENGE. I am Gamaradin Po, master of the grounds here, and this is my wife.
He motions to a woman in a maid's uniform behind him who is holding a silver tray and tea service set.
I have been instructed by my employer to offer you this courtesy and to allow you run of the grounds to answer the challenge set forth for your world-renowned Pathfinder Society - you ARE the Pathfinders right and not an unaffiliated band of thieves yes? I have been instructed merely to ask that you respect the property itself - try not to damage the manor itself unduly and to serve as a meager resource for our little game.

![]() |

"Indeed, we are Pathfinders. I can use a Zone of Truth to attest to it, if you desire." Evarice curtsies to the master of the grounds and his lovely wife.
"What are the instructions? How do we succeed at your challenge?" She pauses. "Also, what happened in the entryway? Some of the benches were damaged when we entered."

![]() |

He arches an eyebrow That...that was the result of your society's FIRST attempt to acquire the book. Didn't make it past the first room. Sad really. It got messed up further by another...band of thieves.
As for the nature of the challenge, please understand that I can hardly be specific about it. I’m afraid some of it may prove lethal, but the master did ask that your retrieval of the book not be easy. But that is the price of having offended my master with your first amateurish attempt.

![]() |

Blend emerges from hiding and asks, what other band of thieves?
Looking around the room, can you give us an idea of the layout of the building?

![]() |

Simon pipes up. "We are Pathfinders. Whether or not we think we can success is irrelevant. We are always up to the CHALLENGE."

![]() |

"I understand." Evarice replies very simply.
These challenges are stranger than I thought they would be. Indulging this Lord may be the most foolish idea I've signed up for as of yet.
"Well then, we shall move on and complete the challenge. Um, which way is forward?"

![]() |

Once more , I am afraid there is little that I am permitted to say - I can tell you the layout. It is but a single story, built around a central atrium. The main entryway is to the east and the banquet hall directly to the west, along with guest rooms, the master’s suite and such.”
With that he bows and offers the door behind him You are free to go whichever direction you go in
As Doubtful opens the door to the next room he is greeted by a massive and expansive banquet hall, complete with all the trapping of the high gourmet with a floor to ceiling, a pair of portaits of the Kalistocrat on the right is an obese man in voluminous white robes and gloves, with a long black beard of oiled ringlets, and the fingers of both hands bedecked with gems—the quintessential portrait of a Druman Kalistocrat. The portrait on the left depicts a beautiful olive-skinned woman with large dark eyes and raven hair, also clad in white robes and gloves; her hair is held in place by a jeweled circlet, and a veil of coins covers her lower face.
All around the table are creatures, almost a dozen dressed in finery with strange fish like heads. They all stand look at the party menacingly, staring intently and unkindly as they begin to slowly move to wards Doubtful.

![]() |

"More guests then?" Doubtful growls, as the strange fish-headed creatures stand and look his way.... you can tell by his tone he's pretty sure they're nothing quite so benign.
don't sound like something that would fall under K:religion, and neither history nor nobility is likely to help either =)

![]() |

Numair looks thoughtful.
"This place has been a puzzle... and we were told to mind our manners. Let's not strike the first blow here; Doubtful - do you want to see if you can just walk around them?"

![]() |

Woops, forgot my False Life.
Before the door opened, Simon cast False Life to give himself necromantic vigor.
False Life: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
After Doubtful steps into the room, Simon ponders the approaching guests or hosts. "They don't seem inviting, do they?"
Knowledge: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 - +1 if it's Arcana, Nobility, or Religion

Blend activates his wand of shield before the door is opened.

But instead it fizzles, pops, and stops working.

kn nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
He begins to move towards one and stops at Numair's comment.

![]() |

I'm not sure how much time I have. If I have a minute, I'll try to use Diplomacy.
"Greetings! It is our pleasure to see you all. Let's not get too hasty, here."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Evarice notices she is instinctively pulling on her glaive.

![]() |

The gang of well dressed fishmen do not seem any friendlier, moving and mashing their fists together in a menacing manner, walking right up in your grills.
An Attack of Opportunity for....anyone who cares to take one.

![]() |

Okay. So they look menacing, but aren't actually swinging, right?
Willing to put his money where his mouth is, Numair bows, and then experimentally walks through the threatened area of one of the creatures, to see what happens.

![]() |

The creatures menace and growl...but do not strike at Numair

![]() |

Phew!
"See? It is perfectly safe. Let's be on our way."
He then moves over to the double doors, and listens to them, hoping to get an idea of what is in the next room.
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33.

![]() |

Blend slips into the room, hopefully unnoticed by any of the fish men. He does a careful circuit, checking for traps, hidden compartments or secret hiding places.

![]() |

"Well done, Numair. A bit braver than I." Evarice keeps her hands clear from her weapons and follows him.
"Pardon me, sirs. Or madams. Or... well, I'm not sure."

![]() |

Simon remains a little more skeptical. He's not used to dealing with those that look like they should talk being so quiet. He pulls out a Scroll of Invisibility to hold in his hand, just in case. He strides in with the rest of the party.

![]() |

Irizati will follow Numair Salmalin for now.

![]() |

Numair listens intently and thinks he hears the dulcett tones of...slowly circulating water.

![]() |

Assuming his search of the room found nothing Blend heads over to the large double doors and checks them over.
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
+1 for traps
If everything looks clear he pushes them open and slips inside under cover of blend.
Stealth, blend, urban: 1d20 + 19 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 19 + 4 + 2 = 33
If they are locked then he will pick the lock, taking 10 for 30

![]() |

Blend slips through the door and surveys the next room, an indoor garden complete with a large gently flowing pool decorated by a large formation of coral, some ivory benches and a trio of statues painted in various formations on the opposite side.

![]() |

Blend scans the room looking for hidden dangers.

Blend continues hs trek and makes his way to the statues and examines them for a moment
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 4 = 27
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
While, the painted statues themselves are depicting...something, Blend is unable to identify them, however the large coral formation seems to be not that at all, but instead an evil Outsider known as a Chaos Beast known for its strikes that have a propensity for making people lose their forms.
Interestingly, it appears to have not even noticed Blend at this point as he has done a circuit of the room.

![]() |

Blend completes his circuit of the room and heads back to the group. He whispers, best be careful, that formation in the middle is a chaos beast, very dangerous. I suggest we try and ambush it while it thinks we havent noticed it. Make your preparations quickly. I recommend not letting it hit you.
With that he pulls out an oil from his pack and coats a number of arrows with it. Slipping back into the room he takes up a position out of the way.
Applying oil of bless weapon

Blend will wait a couple of rounds at the most before attacking so as not to waste his oil

![]() |

Irizati will move to where he can see the thing Blend is pointing at and he begins to cast Summon Nature's Ally 4.
Baloo will move to guard him.

![]() |

Evarice casts Shield Other upon Doubtful. Then she pulls out her longbow.
"I really did prepare the wrong spells for today."

![]() |

Anyone else who wants to take a surprise round will also need to roll me a stealth check for me

![]() |

Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Simon decides this may be a good time to speed up the party. He casts Haste.
Assuming a 23 makes it, Haste is up.

![]() |

I don't think I can both cast and be stealthy.

![]() |

How deep is the water in the fountain? Will it prove problematic from a movement perspective?
It's about ankle deep and described as calm, so, I would say no

![]() |

Right, you are free not to take a Stealth roll if you aren't trying to be sneaky - Blend was which triggered that
Blend re-enters the room stealthily enough to get the jump on the enemy, but the rest of the party is a bit too obvious to follow his lead to gain even greater advantage, with Doubtful simply bursting through the doors announcing his presence among other things.
