Seeing no way to find a clear spot for attacking or running, Xien just retreats to the party back and loads his sling.
| GM Harker |
Muirdarcaien moves to a dangerously crumbling, yet strategically important part of the bridge and attacks. Unfortunately, while keeping his balance, his strike lacks accuracy and misses the outsider.
Growler tries to convince the others to get out of his way, while Tiger attacks the monster. Although both claw attacks hit, the creature appears to have received no injury whatsoever. The claw didn't not confirm, sorry.
Xien retreats and prepares to strike down the outsider from a ranged position.
Alexandria moves into the space formerly occupied by the Nagaji and heals Ib of all his injuries.
Ib's alternate action, and Quiella if she's available before Ib posts.
| GM Harker |
Instead of a Glaive, Ib draws his sawtooth sabre and attacks the creature, hitting the flying monstrosity but doing much less damage than one would assume with that strike.
Using the attack roll Ib made with the glaive for the sawtooth sabre.
Sawtooth Sabre damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Quiella draws her crossbow and fires it at the creature in front of Ib, but with the creature in melee and her allies in the way, the bolt falls harmlessly into the ravine.
Quiella ranged attack - melee: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 4 = 18
Despite the sudden healing of the its target's injury, the outsider continues to relentlessly go after the halfling fighter with its spear and clawed feet. All three attacks tear into Ib, dropping the him into an unconscious, dying state. Ib takes 13 damage in total, down to -2 hit points.
With Ib unconscious, someone else can move into his square if they wish. Although if he isn't moved before regaining consciousness, one of the two character will have to immediately move which might provoke an AoO.

But he is too bothered by the immensity of the abyss next to him to swing accurately at all.

Growler says something under his breath and Tiger looks more tigery. Using swift action to place Tiger focus on Tiger, +2 Dex.
Growler says, "Seems hard to damage, perhaps need magic?"
Thinking maybe bless weapon is a need.

Seeing that things are too tight in the hall, Alexandria casts stabalize on Ib to ensure that the halfling falls no further towards death.
This foul thing needs to die
| GM Harker |
Xien moves over the fallen Ib and attempts to smite the evil outsider again, but it swerves in the air just in time to avoid the attack.
Distracted yet again by the lack of railings, Muirdarcaien has trouble hitting with his scythe.
Tiger attacks with all of its natural weapons, but the creature flies painfully out of the reach of each attack.
Growler does hit with his shortbow despite the chaos of battle, but the outsider is not damaged whatsoever by the arrow. With melee and cover penalties, that does not confirm, sorry.
Alexandria casts a stabilization spell on Ib, who immediately stops bleeding out.
With her crossbow apparently not terrible useful, Quiella drops the weapon and draws her polearm. She is unable to capitalize on the attack this time, however, as she tries to avoid hitting her fellow paladin.
Quiella Lucerne hammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
With a mocking laugh, the evil outsider goes after Xien with his spear and two claws. One of the claw attacks manage to find a weak spot in Xien's armor, injuring him slightly. 2 damage to Xien

With a decisive blow backed by the power of his goddess, Xien splits the evil outsider in two with his ax. The remains fall in lumps at the bottom of the ravine.
Combat Over
Growler, you can save that arrow.
To jump the bridge with Acrobatics the DC is 7 if you take a running jump, DC 14 if you don't. Now that we are out of combat, the group can move around to make a running jump possible.
Quiella

can't most of us take 10 for that?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Growler Bloodlet
|
My Acro is -3, probably due to my 10 dex and my medium armor. I suspect Tiger can clear the chasm in her sleep. I'll take 10 for both.
Growler and Tiger both make the jump, Tiger, gracefully, Growler barely clearing it, with sheer brute strength.
Quiella
|
Plate mail makes for a terrible ACP. What would Quiella's ACP look like with her armor in a sack tied to her bag? Alternatively, does it seem to Quiella that it would be pretty easy (take 10) to toss her armor over the crevice in a sack?
-Posted with Wayfinder
| GM Harker |
@Quiella, Well, it'll take 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 minutes to take your full plate off (1.5 minutes with help) and 4 more minutes to put it back on (You have to have someone help you, as per the Core, or else you'll take penalties). If the party is fine with that then it isn't a problem to remove it, jump across, and put it back on. You can store the armor in your backpack or have someone else carry it.

The nagaji takes a further look to see if the creature has really left.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Xien goes back then to the previous rooms, takes one long piece of furniture, asking for help if needed and then places it on the chasm.
If needed he firstly jumps to the other side.
Acrobatics (jump): 10 + 7 = 17
At this point he checks the next room. He waits for others to check too, and then helps to open the doors.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

First thing Ib does is get his Star Knife. He wipes it off and puts it back on his person. He agrees to help Xien get whatever he can to help with the jump stuff. He feels a bit winded Lack of Hp . He then goes back to look at the chasm.
Perception check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Alexandria-Shardonz

since Alexandria is a minus 4 to acrobatics minus 8 to jump she will take off her armor and the likes to take 10 after that. heal bot in a tin can LOL
Well with all my stuff on there is no way I can make that jump. I will need to take off this armor and put my shield away as well. Please wait this may take some time.
Alexandria starts to take off her armor and prepares to jump.
| GM Harker |
I'm afraid Ib will have to be healed before he can act. He's currently unconscious while sitting at -2 HP.
Alexandria has no issues jumping over if she takes her armor off first.
After a quick visual search to make sure the creature is dead, Xien moves back into the building to find some heavy obsidian benches. With help, it won't be that difficult to pull a bench to the bridge area, but pushing it over the gap without the bench falling down the ravine will take a Strength check.
Xien

Xien touches the laying Ib with his own wand.

Ib wakes up after being healed by both Xien and Quiella, but yet still has minor injuries. Looking around he finds a masterwork heavy steel shield decorated as a bull's head and wedged into the northwestern window. Behind the window is a bag, the contents of which consist mostly of baubles and worthless bits of smooth stone, but also a book written in Common. When perused, it appears to be the journal of one of the ancient cult’s slaves and describes her recruitment, enslavement, and the initial assault of Sarenrae’s crusaders on the Citadel, including a graphic description of the battle-crazed dervishes slaughter of many of the Citadel’s slaves.
Meanwhile Xien, Growler, and Quiella work on creating a makeshift bridge from one of the benches. Anyone else making an aid another Strength check on Xien's roll?
Ib Brewleaf
|
Hey guys I found a book that talks about the Temple, and how a slave was killed here. Anyone else want to look? Ib offers ups the journal. He looks at the shield wondering if he can used it. He then aids another with a STR Check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
| GM Harker |
With most of the party helping, Xien manages to push one of the benches over the broken part of the bridge, allowing everyone to climb over if they wish. DC 5 Climb, you can take 10 as normal assuming your strength and ACP allow you to make the DC.
When examined, the door at the end of the bridge is warm to the touch, but not scalding hot.
Xien

Once sure everybody is at the new side and the door is not going to burn his hands, Xien just pushes open the doors.

Well this has been interesting so far.
She smiles and readies her shield and weapon.

Quiella joins Xien at the door, Hammer in hand.

| GM Harker |
Once everyone is across the makeshift bridge, Xien easily pushes open the opposite door to find the red glow of lava dimly lights this vast room. Rivulets of molten rock thread the hall’s floor, fed by streams of lava flowing down the walls. Four enormous forges are spaced evenly around the room, with large hammers, bellows, anvils, and tanks of water dripping on the lava below. A circular ramp rises gently near the center of the room, looping above the lava channels before disappearing into the gloom above.
Fortunately, the streams of lava on the floor are only a foot wide, allowing you to easily cross over them.
Stationed at the southern anvil is an one-eyed dwarf hammering busily on a spear point. Despite the racket, he looks up with an evil glare which quickly turns to confusion then an obsequious smile. Wiping some sweat off his balding forehead, he introduces himself, "The name's Vulcus. What are you folks doing here?"
You can find the new map here.

Xien nods at Growler "Yes, we were send here to finish up with the Moloch cultists. Who are you? What are you doing here? Do you know anything about Moloch and this place?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
The nagaji relaxes as he sees the dwarf is willing to talk instead of instantly attack the group as the wizard did.
| GM Harker |
After a brief moment of concentration, Quiella finds no taint of evil on Vulcus.
The one-eyed dwarf giggles to himself, then nods, "Ah, my story, yes. Not too complicated when you boil it all down. You see, I was a Qadiran slave, but I convinced the leader here, Hafshi, to purchase my freedom if I turned my skills to aid her cause to further the cult of Moloch. But now, with the pittance I make working day and night for these people, I'm beginning to think it's time to leave once the time is right."
He sighs and half-heartedly picks up his smithing hammer, "Well, I suppose it's my duty to the cult to stop you, but that's assuming there's still a cult left after you're done."
The first diplomacy check made him friendly, you may perform another one to convince him to stand down and let you pass.
Quiella

"Good Dwarf, now is the right time of which you spoke. You know firsthand the evils of those you serve. Be gone. Turn away from their ways and be truly free. Return to your home. We will not harm or hinder you."

Growler Bloodlet

Growler looks confused, which is common, but isn't acting, just looking back and forth trying to decide what is happening. When the dwarf picks up his hammer, he shifts his axe some.
"Nothing remaining." He says finally, with a big toothy grin.
| GM Harker |
"Yeah, yeah, I'll just finish up my work here and not see nothing." Vulcus agrees as he returns to his spearpoint, "Although, if I was going to go upstairs, I'd be sure to check out each of the forges down here and see how each of them is venting steam up top. Mayhaps it would be a good idea to rig them to vent the steam in throughout the building. I couldn't be of any help though since I didn't see nothing."
If you wish to re-distribute the steam as per Vulcus suggestion, it'll take a Disable Device check DC 25. It looks like Ib has that as a class skill.
