Darkness vs Deeper Darkness

Advice

So, I'm making a Drow sorcerer, and I am starting wit the drow nobility feat for bonus SLAs, including darkness. Then there's improved drow nobility, which "upgrades" darkness to deeper darkness. Now, the other boosts provided by improved drow nobility may make it worth it no matter what, but it seems like there would be many situations in which normal darkness could be preferable. Notably, drow can see in darkness, but not supernatural darkness. So the questions are
1. If I take improved drow nobility, do I lose my (normal) darkness SLA?
2. Are there ways to get around the disadvantages of deeper darkness?

Anyone?

"Your darkness spell-like ability instead becomes deeper darkness, which you may use twice per day."

That says it all right there.

As for ways to get around it, better invest in Blind Fighting (you can start with Blight Fight at level 1 if you want, but it's level 10 for Improved and level 15 for Greater, so those might take a while).

Does no one remember classic drow tactics? Darkness of any sort combines very nicely with faerie fire. Enemies are nicely outlined for you In a concealment-canceling blue glow, while you're protected by the darkness and its concealment chances.

I do Dancing Lights Plus Faerie fire they could make Faint humanoid Shapes that you could see and be distracted by then BLAMO...

Deeper Darkness is a Higher level spell I do believe... Its great because it doesnt just make Darkness it alters levels of Light... So Faerie Fire Deep Darkness Dancing lights all will play a roll in your tactics.

Huh? I thought faerie fire is negated by darkness and deeper darkness? How can I make both of them useful?

Deeper darkness allows you change bright light to dim light and normal light to darkness. That's pretty much it. Faerie fire is useful for preventing foes from using stealth when they are in darkness but operating outside your darkvision range.

Deeper Darkness, like Darkness, also cancels out all non-magical* or lower-level magical light sources. It also lowers all existing dim light or darkness to supernatural darkness, within which Darkvision doesn't work.

Which is somewhat odd for those relying on Darkvision.

Outlined creatures do not benefit from the concealment normally provided by darkness (though a 2nd-level or higher magical darkness effect functions normally)

It doesn't apparently do anything in magical darkness.

*Per a recent FAQ, things like torches, campfires and the like are non-magical sources. The Sun, moon and stars set ambient light levels that are not canceled by (Deeper) Darkness. I'm not sure what if anything equivalent you'd find in Drow homelands.
