Just as some of you catch sight of the lurking figure, he springs into action. Leatherhead attempts to scare the man, but though he is shaken up by the Croc's intimidating glare, he does not flee. He flings a stone at Lyan, which strikes his armor with deafening BANG! Lyan's ears ring with high-pitched tone and he realizes he can hear nothing else! Lyan is deaf for 1 hour!

A beat after, another lurking fellow rears up from the weeds and lobs another stone toward the gathered group further up the trail. Again, a resounding report catches the majority of the group and many are left reeling from the sonic assault. Leatherhead and Jacques are uneffected. Fingalad, Kel and Kharam are deaf for 1 hour! He takes a –4 penalty on initiative checks, automatically fails Perception checks based on sound, takes a –4 penalty on opposed Perception checks, and has a 20% chance of spell failure when casting spells with verbal components. Leatherhead catches one of the shifty characters in a mighty grapple as Lyan moves up to engage. The man across the stream slogs through the marshy reeds and grabs onto his fellow and tries to help him throw off the clinching Croc, but his hands are slippery with moisture and he fails to be of any help. The grappled man wriggles feebly to try and break loose from Leatherhead's grip, failing miserably.

Then suddenly a third figure breaks cover from the east and lopes toward Lyan's exposed rear. The burly man raises an intimidating looking blunt mace an brings it down hard on the back of Lyan's head. Lyan takes 25 non-lethal damage!

Milythandyr fires a magic missile striking the burly man. Fingalad snipes him from his hiding place. The arrow strikes it's target, but he is unable to conceal himself again. Jacques moves in to attack, but only hits air. Leatherhead applies pressure to his grappled foe and is rewarded with the sounds of cracking bones and the man's pained whimper. Lyan returns attack and gets in a solid blow on the bludgeoning bandit.

One of the bandits gives up on trying to free his fellow and joins the fray, nimbly moving along the pond's bank to flank Lyan. He swings a mace, but Lyan dodges the blow easily. The grappled bandit struggles uselessly, still unable to free himself. But the bludgeoner redoubles his efforts against the inquisitor. He swings his heavy mace, Lyan's armor barely rebuffing the blow, and then he lands a hit with his light mace, knocking him out cold. Lyan crumples to the ground. Lyan takes another 22 NL damage and is unconscious and prone.

Fingalad considers the croc's suggestion for a few moments. "Yes. Strip them naked and leave them in the wild. This is acceptable to me."

Fingalad will try to keep hidden as much as possible as he approaches the camp with the party, distancing himself from them a little if necessary. He will take 10 on his stealth checks. He can move up to 25 feet per round without a penalty to stealth, so I imagine he won't slow the party down

The mercenaries are stripped and left to the wilds. You proceed on for another hour and a half before you reach the area of the bandit's camp. The sun is setting and in the dim light of evening, you can easily see the glow of a fire ahead.

A half-dozen tents form a semi-circle around a large fire pit in this clearing on a hillside. The smell of roasting meat wafts through the air, and a plume of smoke rises from the fire. Several large barrels sit beside the opening of the largest of the tents.

One man and a large beast are visible near the fire.

Map is updated! You will approach initially from the northwest, but you can circle round and approach from a different direction if you choose. Place your tokens where you want to initiate combat from.

Lyan:
The beast is a Dire Wolf. They behave much like normal wolves, but are much larger and more aggressive. You realize a moment too late as you study it that the creature is highly perceptive. It scents the air and growls turning to look directly at you and Jacques.
Lyan and Milythandyr:
You notice another man is hidden on just the other side of the trunk of the tree that Milythandyr is hiding behind. He appears to be dozing or lost in thought, however, as he seems to take no notice of any of you.

The man tending the fire looks up as the beast raises it's muzzle. The wolf sniffs the air and bares his teeth in a vicious grin as he turns toward the north. The man follows his glance and his eyes fall upon Lyan and Jacques as well and he shouts an alarm.

He is wearing mundane clothing and leather armor.

The man at the fire flings something at the approaching Inquisitor, it strikes him and bursts, coating Lyan in a sticky, tar-like substance. Once exposed to air, the sticky resin quickly begins to harden, adhering him to the spot. Lyan is entangled and glued to the ground, unable to move.

Tanglefoot Bag:

A tanglefoot bag is a small sack filled with tar, resin, and other sticky substances. When you throw a tanglefoot bag at a creature (as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet), the bag comes apart and goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, it can move only at half speed. Huge or larger creatures are unaffected by a tanglefoot bag. A flying creature is not stuck to the floor, but it must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be unable to fly (assuming it uses its wings to fly) and fall to the ground. A tanglefoot bag does not function underwater.

A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately.

Milythandyr and Fingalad are up! Note that the enemy in Red is only noticed by Milythandyr and Lyan.
