The man goes over to the counter and leans in towards Pal. He loudly complains that his table has been taken. Pal looks over at Ako and Finwë and looks embarrassed. He sighs heavily and walks over to the table. The man follows with a smug expression.

Pal says, "I'm very sorry. Mr. Markell here has this table reserved for lunch. Do you mind finding another place? There are plenty of other tables. I'll be happy to discount your next meal.....?"

Pal seems unhappy to inconvenience his customers, but "Mr. Markell's" needs seem to come first.

Ako's insistence that there is plenty of room seems to have partly convinced Pal, but he's not entirely swayed.

Finwë mentions his side business and Pal's eyes narrow. "Who do you think you are? And how dare you throw around accusations like that? If you don't move, I'll have you thrown out!"

At this point most people in the tavern have turned to observe the commotion.

"What's wrong, Pal?" one of them calls, "you need us to get rid of some'un?"

Twelve burly dock workers get up from their seats. Mr. Markell is still standing there smirking.

Sorry for no post yesterday. I spilled coffee on my laptop.

With all the commotion, you think that everyone is distracted enough that they would not notice who cast a particular spell unless it had obvious visual elements to it.

Unfortunately, the patrons don't seem particularly interested in hearing what the group has to say. They surge forward and begin trying to grab at Ako, Finwë, G'Boar, and Cesare. "Get them out of here!" shouts Pal. Mr. Markell stands by, casting an occasional nervous glance at the front entrance.

Social skills won't work as a way to influence the mob, or Pal, any more. You can try combat maneuvers, spells, or other skills, or resort to open combat.

Suddenly four of the locals fall asleep and three of them trip and fall on the ground. The five remaining ones look quite confused. Then Markell smashes one of them on the back of the head with a bottle, and everything turns to chaos. He tries to stammer out an apology, but it is quickly drowned out by the shouts and curses of the locals. "Get 'im! It's some kinda trick!" The Pathfinders get tossed about a little bit, but Markell gets the worst of it; the locals throw him off the pier and into the port. He yells a few curses and swims away.

The locals seem like they're about to turn on the Pathfinders, but one of them, a bit smarter than the others, says, "we better not mess with them. They got spells!"

One of them buys a drink for Ako. "You can stay as long as you like. Right, Pal?"

Pal pokes his head up from behind the bar. "Uhhhhh... yes. Umm. And... would you like some pearls? You know, not that they're worth much.... just... I'd prefer if you didn't speak of this...."

A short while later, a woman comes by, clearly expecting to meet someone in the "private" corner. Not finding who she expected, she leaves as quickly as she arrived.

[ooc] Well to be honest, I do me best work with sailors. but then again, we may have drawn to much attention to ourselves with the tavern. [/b]

Ako ponders the choices for a moment. lets go to the sewers, perhaps I can keep any guards occupied while others get in and find what we need. Ako offers her decision.

FF 1-02

Sewers it is then! Gotta say, that decision stinks.

The Pathfinders follow Delroya's directions to an isolated alley in the Bristles (home to low-rate inns, markets and taverns as well as warehouses and poorer family homes). There they discover an entrance to the sewers beneath Diobel.

The group climbs a ladder down into the sewers. The stench of sewage mixes with the sharper odors of chemical fumes and decay and permeates the damp tunnels. From this intersection, tunnels lead west and south into the darkness. A third tunnel heading east is filled with detritus, filthy beddings, food scraps, broken glass, and rotting furniture. An alcove lies beyond a collapsed portion of the tunnel's southern wall, and further east, a statue of a giant rat rests in the dead-end passage. Countless empty flasks and discarded alchemical ingredients lie on the floor around the statue. On a nearby workbench sit several organized but empty flasks and jars.

Four people lie about near the "cave" in the southern wall. They don't seem to notice you. They are delirious, malnourished, and filthy.

I've loaded up the map for this encounter. Feel free to move yourself to a different spot, and describe your actions. We're not in combat or anything, but it may be important to know where everyone is standing. If there's anything in particular you wanted to do (such as activate a light source) before heading into the sewers, let me know that as well. It's dark down there!

"This place looks as bad as it smells," says Cesare. He moves cautiously towards the reclining figures, keeping an eye out for weapons.

"You folks need help?" he asks.

FF 1-02

The people lying around don't even respond, and don't even seem to realize that Cesare is there.

I was kinda hopin you would tell me which to take. I guess I'll try a healing roll to see if they are drug addicts and then an knowledge religion to see if they are zombies or something.

healing: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16
KnRel: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15

Added guidance spell for each roll.
