Mairis seemed to think upon the words of the little one for a few moments, before answering. "I'm not so interested in buying or selling, of that kind at least, and I doubt your kin could provide that well for any other interests I have. Do you know anything about that commotion there, and the female that was crying?"

"Yeah. Her child is missing. That's the sixth bigjob whelp that has disappeared in the last turn of the moon. Even Masters are getting worried about that, you know."
Halfling just shrugs. "I don't know about no reward. Anywayz, do I look like a Watchmen to you? Ask them about a reward, but why should it be? These kids are just future lowlife, you know. Nobody important. Now, can we do some business here? Nobody comes to Kaledun just to see the sites.."

"My business is to help others. I will give you 5 gold coins if you tell us more about the missing children." Balasiel says after hearing the halfling speak.

Halfling looks at you incredulously. "Are you daft, bigjobs? How do you know I won't lie to you?"

"You wanted business I gave it to you is why is one reason I trust you will not lie. I doubt you want someone who is armed like I am upset with you is another reason. Lastly I am betting you are smart enough to know that if I give you gold now for information I might just give it to you again." Balasiel says to the halfling.
Mularan had been listening intently to what had happened and only decided to step in when the man on the camel though it necessary to threaten this creature,"Now now, we are all sensible people, I think we can figure out a non-violent way of handling this. What do you say halfling. Give us the information we need and we'll be on our way, and down worry about the camel."
"You bigjobs are all crazy." He doesn't look particularly intimidated or scarred. "Well, who am I not to take your money? Give it here?" He takes the offered gold and drops it in his trouser pocket. "Now, what do you wish to know, exactly?"

Balasiel says to the halfling "Give us one moment I wish to ask the rest what they wish to know exactly so we do not waste your time." He than turns to the rest of the group "So what we know so far is children have been going missing. I think we should ask him from where they have gone missing gives us a point to start with if they are all from a common area. What thoughts do the rest of you have?"

Mairis seems unconcerned when he replies, his voice even calmer than usual. "When. Where. Whose. Perhaps it makes sense. Or perhaps those have nothing to do with it altogether. Still, you paid him, might as well get your money's worth. He doesn't seem to care that much, but perhaps he even knows someone who might know more.
Personally, I would also be interested in speaking to the parents of the youngs. They might know more.
"I'm a soldier, not a diplomat. If the 'Masters' are worried then something more than slave taking is afoot. Something is upsetting business as usual. Look at how pushy the Constable watch officer was. Only pressure from up high gets the rank and file moving so. Ask this halfling if there would be blackmarket behind a blackmarket he knows of, or if not point us to who would. Who pulls the strings around here or better yet who knows whose strings are being pulled? Figuring out who the parents of these children are could done by asking anyone in the crowd, not this eager source."
Jangol says his peace and moves back away from the conversation with the halfling.
"You bigjobs are crazy people. You know what, go to the inn called The Golden Pig and look for a dwarf that goes by the name of Kagain. He will tell you everything you may wish to know about the missing kids. I can see that the Watch is looking this way, so I am going and if I was you, I would leave as well."
The halfling takes you deeper into town, away from the main gate and the port. After about a half an hour of walking, you find yourself in front of a large stone building. It looks more like a house of a prosperous merchant than an inn, but the large wooden shield with golden-colored roasted pig hangs above the door, so that must be the Golden Pig Inn.
As you approach the building, you can hear strange sounds coming behind thick oaken doors...
You hear the sounds of scuffle from the inside, accompanied by shouting. "I am gonna rip yer whiskers, you bloody dirty things!" someone roars. "You mangy scum!"
You open the door with some difficulty. There seems to be a table thrown at it. Through the door, you can see a middle-aged dwarf, fighting against some creatures that look like humanoid rats.
You enter the room behind the doors with some difficulty. Fortunately, the rat-like beings are busy fighting the red-haired dwarf, who is unarmed except a chair which he holds with both hands, trying to fend off the attackers. They are about the size of a halfling and they seem to be armed with long dirks in both hands. There are nine of them, as far as you can see.
Jangol moves into the room with a wide sweep of his flail just above the floorboards shouting tactics to his companions.
"Pair up, put the beasts on their backs, and then ask for their surrender!

Mairis readies his spear, but seems to ponder something for a moment before bringing it to bear. Should we try to discourage them first? I know not if these things are meant to be edible freely.
