Ok. Then he hears and sees nothing of the last parts of conversation, and doesn't get invited by Oleg to close the gate.

Oleg grunts in appreciation of Wyatt's help, and you quickly close the gate as a full-round action.

Svetlana beams at Nikoleta, "Thank you, madam, thank you all," she says, turning to face you. "Please, continue to eat your fill of the stew here. When you are ready for the evening, there are four beds in this guest house. Otherwise, you are welcome to stay in the stables. Perhaps the... large one may feel more comfortable there," she says, referring to Urzug. "Lady Nikoleta, yes? If you wish, we can make up a pallet for you in our home, should you be more comfortable there. I am afraid that our house is a meager place, but you may find some comfort inside near the fireplace."

Oleg grunts at this, but only comments, "There is plenty of firewood along the wall. You may use what you wish, for it is easily replaced. I will come round to wake you before dawn. Get in place when you are ready, I will prepare the... lure," he fairly spits out the final word before throwing a few final logs on the cook fire, nodding to all, and heading inside his house.

Feel free to continue conversation. When complete, let me know a couple things:
1) Where you'll sleep
2) Where you'll set up in the morning for the ambush
I'll post once all are in place.

Mikam finishes smoking and moves his pack into the bunkhouse, claiming the bunk furthest from the door by the simple expedient of tossing his pack on it. The rest of the evening Mikam studies his spellbook at the table outside, his staff lying on the table and shedding enough light to read by.

The next morning finds Mikam hiding in the stables, awaiting the arrival of the bandits.

"Do not worry too much on my behalf, I'm used to sleeping in forests as of lately. However, I will take you up on sleeping in the house." Nikoleta responds with a smile and then offers her help in setting up the pallet near the fireplace.

After having secured a place to rest, Nikoleta thanks Svetlana and Oleg for their hospitality. She spends the rest of the night flipping through her spellbook and listening to the sounds of the wind outside.

Upon waking the next day, Nikoleta hides herself behind the building directly opposite the gate, stealthily watching the gate.

The morning dawns cool and crisp, and you emerge from sleep to find Svetlana coaxing a fire out of the logs in the firepit. She nods at you, nervously, as she rubs her hands together before going back inside the house, yet she first calls out quietly, "Erastil be with you, all of you! May doom come to them this day!" Oleg is busy hauling furs and other trade goods out from the stockroom to lay out in the storage area before opening the gate and doing his best to look like he is acting normally.

The spring morning is bustling with life outside the walls of the trading post, and more than a few birds have flitted in to perch on the roof of the stable, as though observing the morning rituals of the trading post.

As though on cue, nearly an hour after dawn, you hear a whizz followed by a loud thud on the outside wall, and the clop of hooves as several horses approach. Coarse laughter comes into the courtyard as you hear several figures dismount. Jean-Luc, hidden in his perch, and Nikoleta, hidden behind the storage shed, can peek out safely to see that there are five bandits in the courtyard. Nikoleta can see that there are at least as many horses out in the yard, and a man you presume to be the leader is still astride one, his bow in hand and across the pommel of his saddle.

"Good morning, Oleg!" he calls out while the other bandits begin heading for the storage shed. "So fine to see you again! And where is little Svetlana, eh? Keeping the sheets warm for you, I hope - or perhaps for me, ah? Ah, ha ha ha ha ha!"

Oleg bristles in anger, but does not retaliate, simply backing away from the men to stand close to his home. "Just take what you came for and be gone! We do poorly enough without being able to fight you off," he bluffs.

Oleg's Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 vs. Bandit's Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Something in Oleg's voice must have sounded a little less than shaky in the now silent morning air. Shortly you hear the leader call out, "Eh, what is this? What are you getting at, Trader?" The bandit grows grim. "You've not one for words, are you? Come now, tell Happs what you're about, before the boys need to make you talk!"

My apologies. I already provided them to KM GM in a PM, but you all deserve them as well.

I can't see the maps from work. Heck, the link gives me a "tunnel connect failed" error, so I'm going to ASSUME I'm in range for the following, if not, use the alternate course of action.

As the opportunity presents itself, Drektan almost hisses a discordant note, assaulting the bandits with his voice alone.

Cast Chord of Shards: 15' cone, Reflex DC14 to negate for damage of

2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6

---

Alternate course of action:

Scanning the bandits for tell-tale signs, Drek begins calling out instructions to the others about how best to fight them.

Attempting to activate Naturalist ability (archetype replacement for Inspire Courage). Requires identifying opponent using the correct knowledge skill, which is Local for humanoids.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

13 fails, so Drek provides no benefit. Oops.

Folks,
Just FYI, this is a good example of where I'm happy to fudge a little if I don't know your original intentions re: tactics. In this case, I'm guessing Drektan would set himself up just inside the guest house to hop out and blast the nearest bandit. I'll try to synthesize this evening for y'all.

Now that I've seen the map, A simple bow shot would be the obvious choice. Using the same D20 roll, it is still horribly inadequate.

Any of the 3 serves the story equally well, but the missed bow shot matches with the expectations everyone else should have started the scene with.

Low stress for me.

Do you mean Overrun? He doesn't really have room to maneuver, so he can't get out of the way.

Overrun wrote:

As a standard action, taken during your move or as part of a charge, you can attempt to overrun your target, moving through its square. You can only overrun an opponent who is no more than one size category larger than you. If you do not have the Improved Overrun feat, or a similar ability, initiating an overrun provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver. If your overrun attempt fails, you stop in the space directly in front of the opponent, or the nearest open space in front of the creature if there are other creatures occupying that space.

When you attempt to overrun a target, it can choose to avoid you, allowing you to pass through its square without requiring an attack. If your target does not avoid you, make a combat maneuver check as normal. If your maneuver is successful, you move through the target's space. If your attack exceeds your opponent's CMD by 5 or more, you move through the target's space and the target is knocked prone. If the target has more than two legs, add +2 to the DC of the combat maneuver attack roll for each additional leg it has.[/overrun]

Drektan's shot goes over the bandit's shoulder, definitely drawing his attention away from the midden pile.

Mikam continues to not draw attention to himself, hiding in the stable behind the doorway.

Jean-Luc's cry reaches the bandit leader's ears, and the bandit leader seems to shrink back a bit, clearly worried about dying.

Nikoleta shifts her way through the refuse pile... Bandit Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 17 ...but the bandit easily spies her.

Urzug attempts to knock down the fleeing bandit, but only manages to grab him from behind. [ooc]Grappling the bandit, not knocked down (need to beat CMD by 5 on the overrun).

Wyatt casts a spell of doom on the bandit leader... Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 ...but he shakes off the effects.

---

1) Sees Nikoleta, but is worried about Drektan and his arrows. He instead closes the distance and attacks Drektan... [ooc]1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8, 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 ... but misses.

2) Unconscious

3) Unconscious

4) Tries to break free of Urzug's grapple... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 ...and miraculously weasels his way out, hopping 5' away and drawing his longbow while turning to face Urzug.

5) Unconscious

Leader) The leader, though shaken by Jean-Luc's words, still sees one troop member upright, draws his bow and fires at Wyatt... 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14; 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 ...but the arrow bounces off your armor.

Onto Round 4!

Yes, the gate will be open enough to cast through, if you are aiming for the leader. You'd need to move partway across the yard to do so, unless you wait for Wyatt to open it further.Though with that strength roll, it'll be a little tough.
