Jean-Luc was born in Northern Galt. There his parents maintain a life in human disguise, eking out a living from the soil as farmers and wine makers. They keep to themselves for the most part and make sure that none of the riotous locals find they are indeed Kitsune. In their youths they were actually revolutionaries and brigands themselves and fled to the country to avoid punishment.
As they say, the grape doesn't fall far from the vine and Jean-Luc found himself romanticizing the bandit lifestyle from an early age. He was undeniably charming and had a way with honeyed words. Even more surprising and troubling to his parents was his ability to mimic the appearance of any human he had encountered. They tried to convince the young man to stay out of mischief and take up the life of a Vineyard worker, but Jean-Luc would not be satisfied.
His eighteenth birthday was the last time that he saw his family, as he fled north and joined in with bandits, easily talking his way into a friendship and partnership with the ruffians thanks to his gregarious nature. He managed to be quite a successful bandit in the months that followed, but found that it left a sour taste in his mouth. It was hardly as romantic of a pursuit as he had envisioned.
He dreamed of turning the tables and defending the weak against the more unsavory bandits of the River Kingdom. He was constantly scheming and soon talked a few others into feeling the same way he did. Leading a small group of kindhearted folk, he set about befuddling and robbing from those he saw as wrongdoers, redistributing the wealth when possible. Unfortunately it ultimately was more trouble than he was equipped to deal with. Now seeking a place to lay low, an expedition into the lesser populated Stolen Lands is just what he was looking for.
