Haha, I'm glad you answered that yourself. I guess that works, as long as you are taking two feats to the get the weapon finesse with your double weapon I don't really have an issue with it. For the purposes of the Mind blade however, if you make it a Monk's Spade I would like to say it falls under that "two light weapons" ruling (since that's how double weapons are stated out) so you should only need regular weapon finesse (and of course two-weapon fighting).
Little Uke, same rules apply, just have a crunch, equipment and backstory spat out by Tuesday and I'll look over it. Since you make six (though I haven't heard from Ringtail in awhile) Someone may get cut, so I'll simply look to make the most balanced party. It's 3.5 not pathfinder, though certain pathfinder provisions are allowed under approval only as I know it's a pain to get 3.5 books. 5th level gestalt and see how other have rolled stats for that. Looking forward to your submission.

Two-weapon fighting is not needed because of Flurry of Blows, correct?
DM Hovis
Not in 3.5, in pf they are the same feature but in 3.5 Flurry of blows was it's own ability. Now if you want to flurry of blows with a single weapon you can combine melee attacks unarmed and manufactured together, but nothing about 3.5 monk states you automatically can dual wield. I'll revisit when I have my books unless you can look up an exact RAW reason why it shouldn't work.
Ikari Chanbara
Flurry of Blows (Ex)
When unarmored, a monk may strike with a flurry of blows at the expense of accuracy. When doing so, she may make one extra attack in a round at her highest base attack bonus, but this attack takes a -2 penalty, as does each other attack made that round. The resulting modified base attack bonuses are shown in the Flurry of Blows Attack Bonus column on Table: The Monk. This penalty applies for 1 round, so it also affects attacks of opportunity the monk might make before her next action. When a monk reaches 5th level, the penalty lessens to -1, and at 9th level it disappears. A monk must use a full attack action to strike with a flurry of blows. When using flurry of blows, a monk may attack only with unarmed strikes or with special monk weapons (kama, nunchaku, quarterstaff, sai, shuriken, and siangham). She may attack with unarmed strikes and special monk weapons interchangeably as desired. When using weapons as part of a flurry of blows, a monk applies her Strength bonus (not Str bonus × 1½ or ×½) to her damage rolls for all successful attacks, whether she wields a weapon in one or both hands. The monk can’t use any weapon other than a special monk weapon as part of a flurry of blows.
In the case of the quarterstaff, each end counts as a separate weapon for the purpose of using the flurry of blows ability. Even though the quarterstaff requires two hands to use, such as the Monk Spade, a monk may still intersperse unarmed strikes with quarterstaff strikes, assuming that she has enough attacks in her flurry of blows routine to do so.
Too bad the Tiger Hook Swords were not listed.

about 60% done with my character.
Re: Magic item creation pre-game:
My DC for emulating prerequisite spells is 20+the CL of the spell. The highest I can pump my use magic device skill up to is 18 and +6 of that is temporary infusions, meaning i would be unable to have created any items pre-game, despite having been an artificer for 5 levels.
Is there a way you would be willing to change that rule for pre-game item creation? Perhaps allowing me to actually roll the checks for each item?
Tenro
Tetsushinzo Kikai is the alias i will be using, updates will be semi-constant.
mostly waiting on the ruling to see if i can roll for magic items instead of only using a 1
Ikari Chanbara
I gotcha, since they all do the same damage it doesn't really matter to me, however it does mean you still only get one extra attack. Good reading.
I do not mind giving up 2 - 4 potential damage points, for having a weapon that does all damage types except for the Tiger Hook Swords which currently there are not stats for in either 3.5 or PF.
DM Hovis
Well Sunny that's a shame, but I definitely understand.
Tenro you are right, I hadn't thought that all the way through. Just send me a list of rolls and what item each roll is for, if you fail the initial roll you'll have to pay full price and we'll assume you made your gun-fist fine. For the purposes of the gunfist cost I'm going to say it was a 250 base cost for creation and then add the cost of the Armbow to that for the enchantments.
Tenro
for the gun part/armbow part, i will have to make that in two levels or so. the armbow is CL 9, which i cant make until level 7 (and that CL is a hard restriction that I can't get past regardless of my UMD score). So itll be a regular battlefist for now, although itll be +2 so that is nice.
for the bull's strength prerequisite of the battlefist:
use magic device: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24 vs DC 22
The other magic items i made have no prerequisites other than a base caster level, so there is no need for a UMD roll on those.
i will make some consumables (potions/scrolls) and then my character will be complete.
Tenro
OK these are my rolls for scrolls/potions I am making. gonna make some scrolls of cure light wounds that he can use on the others between battles, don't expect it all that much during combat though. Also gonna make two oils of repair light wounds that others can use on him if he falls. I have a slightly better UMD when it comes to scrolls, so that is why there is a difference in the modifiers i'm rolling with. Also for artificers under their item creation class feature they can make a "last ditch" roll to create an item, even if they have made a roll that day (so i might have two rolls for the same item).
Scroll, Phantom Steed CL 5: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20 vs DC 25
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38 vs DC 21
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36 vs DC 21
Oil, Repair Light Wounds CL 4: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34 vs DC 24
Oil, Repair Light Wounds CL 4: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26 vs DC 24
Last Ditch Rerolls:
Scroll, Phantom Steed CL 5: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32 vs DC 25
Scroll, Cure Light Wounds CL 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37 vs DC 21
Ok, all items successfully made (not without two close calls). I have 10 scrolls of cure light wounds (1d8+1), 2 Oils of repair light wounds (1d8+4) and a CL 5 scroll of phantom steed (not sure if i will need it, but i like the spell. i will probably end up hoarding it well into mid levels hahahaa)
With that, Tetsushinzo Kikai's character sheet is complete.
DM Hovis
Tenro got it right, sorry for the lack of clarity.
Character looks good Tenro, let me know if you need any information to start a backstory when you get a chance. AT this time however I only appear to have two regular applicants. More then likely we'll end up either leveling the current characters with new wealth/equipment or wait for more people to apply. Will determine on Tuesday after seeing applications. Ikari should be 10,6,5,6,5,6 +con to each and so on for a d10 hit die. Keep in mind you only count the larger hit die between your two classes per Gestalt.
Keep up the good work! hashing out story details and villain char sheets, have more public tomorrow.
Tenro
*static, not status.
All artificers get that feat at 4th level, although i think if i had gone with the racial substitution levels i would have lost it. But oh well.
My ideas with homunculi included perhaps one that could pull a carriage or chariot or cart of some sort, plus some that i can throw in bags of holding that can craft items for me (that way i dont have to use my adventuring time). But itll be awhile before i make homunculi i think, they cost something like 2000gp per HD if i remember correctly.

yeah i figured if we were going for a certain theme (as Chinese/Japanese/Korean are very different) i would pick a suitable name. it's better for immersion.
From the original description, i got the idea of more of a samurai-type adventure, but then the name of the Master Fu Long (which i am pretty sure is Chinese) made me wonder. Both cultures had themes of celestial/divine hierarchies and such, so i was just wondering if we were leaning to one side or the other. no big deal, just wondering.
if Chinese i will go with TiěXīnzàng Zhǎo
DM Hovis
Good eye, Tenro, Fu Long is definitely chinese. Well for all intents and purposes the mainland is a mix between Chinese and Korean mythology heavily leaning on Chinese. The Korean names will be farmers most of the time, uneducated people who were conquered in the last 200 years. Now Japanese names are also acceptable, as it simply means you are from the Isles of Tears (tears like crying not tears like paper). That's this worlds Japanese equivalent, and while they still hold the Celestial Bureaucracy responsible for any divine intervention, they spend most of their time worshipping the Dragons as physical gods.
For anyone who wants a time frame the year is 997. That year is counting up from when Amaterasu fell from the sky and the modern civilization under the Celestial Bureaucracy was founded. I'll be using Oriental dragons as well, which means all dragons are either Lawful Neutral or Neutral evil, ridiculously powerful and basically are to be treated as minor gods and servants for the Bureaucracy, running messages between the divine and the mundane. Keep this in mind and remember these creatures are very difficult to describe but I will try my best (and forward pictures when I can). Tenro I like your current name and you don't have to be from the Isles if you don't want to, but you can go with either. In both cases I need to know which is your surname and which is your personal (the oriental cultures flip them from standard western patterns of thought so I want to be sure.) Deadlines coming up and I only have two characters submitted: Ikari Chanbara (please specify which is Sur and which is Personal when you can so I'm certain) and Tetsushinzo Kikai (or TieXinzang Zhao, whichever you prefer). I would like at least one or two more before starting and you'll have to level up your characters if I can't get a party of five so I'm extending deadlines till next Friday. Thank you guys for completing your characters and if I get new submissions before then we'll probably just start and add anybody else in as we go if possible.
Tenro
I have a friend who might want to play, he is a little slow on putting characters together from what i have seen. not a lack of knowledge, but like most of us, just takes awhile to really get the feel of the character and whittle down the idea.
as for the Japanese/Chinese name, i lean towards the Chinese one the more i think about it, but which makes more sense for a warforged character in this setting?
DM Hovis
well as I stated you were probably a vessel made by the gods (Izanagi, lord of stone and constrution most likely) and would have a divine name. Now as you may have noticed, the gods are all named after Japanese figures, so they would name their creations accordingly. I'm heavily in favor of Tetsushinzo Kikai, but if he named himself he would be Chinese since that's closer to Common. Let your friend know about the game and if he takes his time that's fine, just have him PM me along the way so I have a time frame. Also be sure he sees that homebrew class as an option. If we end up with the minimum three that's okay, but you'll need 7th level characters. Like I said, give me a few days to decide if we'll level up and jump the gun.
Tenro
yeah, i mostly lean towards the Chinese name because Tetsu (iron) and Shinzo (heart) show up in anime and film quite a bit (at least i think so, because i dont even watch that much).
but, that said, i think Tetsushinzo will be better fitting in the campaign then, it will make him stand out even more as a divine creation.
DM Hovis
Yeah, as long as everyone's character seems somewhat exotic (which thus far will not be an issue) I'm not going to be picky telling you "That's Korean, it's out!" Or "how dare you do something mongolian!" lol. Still, if you have knowledge to share feel free to. White is the symbol for death in those cultures though, so your character, Ikari, will look like your going to a funeral pretty often or possibly the avatar of death itself depending on their state of mind.
DM Hovis
There isn't an issue with white, just be aware what it means. Silver also means purity and fulfillment. This wikipedia article also holds up alright and will be considered cultural for Tamiyo (the country in the campaign world)
Ikari Chanbara
Tenro, It was supposed to be a joke. White belts also get pounded on because they have no self control and feel that they are better than the brown or black belt so they hit them as hard as they can before realizing the brown and black belt can hit harder back. As long as the white belt is not knocked out, broken, or bleeding, the Senpai\Sensei is showing restraint ... ;-) In addition, white belts are out of shape so when they are exposed to the conditioning of Karate, they realize how just out of shape they are and sometimes that also effects their self control. When someone gets tired, they either don't punch as hard, put down their defense, punch harder because they are putting all of their remaining power in each punch, or all of the above.
DM Hovis
I thought it was funny Ikari, but Tenro is correct on the origin. Regardless, I posted some basic information that everyone's character will start aware of. I haven't landed on a name for the horselords yet, so that isn't a typo, it's just not finished. It's in the campaign tab though, if you have any other questions regarding the land feel free to ask them as I have a lot of other information on my side I just haven't felt made since to post.
RinValak
ok first shot at this:
5d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 5, 1) = 22 = 16
5d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 6, 4) = 18 = 14
5d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 1, 1) = 16 = 14
5d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 4, 2) = 13 = 10
5d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 1, 3, 4) = 11 = 9
5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 1, 1) = 15 = 13
5d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 5, 3) = 16 = 12
and the two rerolls:
5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3, 5) = 16 = 12
5d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 2, 4) = 17 = 13
16,14,14,13,13,12 Did I do that all right? -wipes brow-
Also I'll try some short summaries:
Physical: Burly, but not a giant. Bearded and slightly hunched with a keg belly. Human, native of the area.
Personality: Almost always grinning cheerily, easy to laugh. First to make fun of himself and also first to stand up for the underdog. Tries hard to make light of bad situations (coping mechanism).
History: A very common man, a villager. Became a local hero of his village not by choice, just by trying to protect his friends and family. Japanese drunken villager demeanor, but actually a very skilled fighter.
DM Hovis
That's perfect Rinvalak, sounds about right for the setting. If you have access to some of the books and would like to make a Drunken Master you're more then welcome to. It can be found in complete warrior I believe and I may be able to get you the basics of it.
Don't worry about not having a wealth of experience with the system, though this is a mid-level gestalt game so character creation maybe tricky. Feel free to ask me any questions you have and welcome to the game :)Look forward to playing with both of you.
